I have posted this already on another thread (almost word for word) but I just really want you guys know and not panic about this problem and avoid going through difficult fixes like deleting system apps, recalibrating battery or even resetting your phone.
Since JVK was released, many observed that Android OS sometimes get hungry and devours battery. For some reason it is triggered to go berserk. Others say that the main culprit is the Auto update app. But other apps like Google Maps, Latitude and even just in a place where there is very low network signal or Wifi reception could also trigger this problem.
Now, I have a very simple solution: Turn off device, remove battery for a minute, put it back then turn it ON. Yes it is just that simple, REBOOT YOUR DEVICE.
Yeah after you turn on your device Android OS is still on the top of the list with high percentage but I believe it is just as it is because it previously consumed a lot of battery. All you have to do is observe again for an hour if your battery is dropping again, look into the graph and see if it is still steeping to the bottom. If it is dropping like Mt Everest, do the procedure above again.
If not, you will observe that after a couple of hours Android OS's percentage is getting low. Problem is fixed, (temporarily though).
Why go through deleting apps, recalibrate battery etc when you could just turn off your device for a minute?
I have experienced it a lot of times already (one of the first users who upgraded to JVK) but it doesn't bother me anymore. Turning off then on your device is very simple ain't it?
I highly advise that you do not touch anything on the sensitive part of your phone as there is no known single root of this problem. Just like I told you, many situations or apps could trigger Android OS to go berserk. Until there is no definite solution to this problem, I suggest you do the above procedure and save yourself from going through the pain of removing system apps, battery calibration or even hard reset.
By the way my battery usually lasts 3-4 days unless I made Android OS angry again.

INVESTIGATION CLOSED!!! The culprit is caught. But the fix is not so simple. Only Samsung and genius devs (apparently the fix requires closed source modification) could fix this. If the problem occurs on your device, just do the temporary fix above. Please do not try to mess with your device for now.It is now fixed in XXJVP 2.3.4!

Guys if you want to help out please please please dial this *#*#4636#*#* and check "Usage Statistics" and let us know the top 3 items on the list! (highly suggested by {Angel}).
Below are some of the possible culprits currently pointed out by some users (I will update the list based from your feedback):
1. Software Update service
2. Google Maps
3. Latitude
4. Low network signal
5. Very low WIFI reception
6. Auto updates in Market

Rebooting works, and it seems to be working until you start some apps again. I have the same apps installed as I had on JPY, but JVB drains my battery dead in half a day.

Could you pinpoint some apps? I will update the OP to keep track of possible culprits so that others will avoid triggering this problem. Thanks!
I once saw that the battery drain from 95% to 9% after one night, and the android os used most of it. I rebooted my phone, and the problem has gone away, since. Happy with Gingerbread!

Active Widgets: WeatherBug Elite, 3G Watchdog, BatStat and Calendar.
Apps: All from above plus Twitter, Titanium Backup, Facebook, Twitter, Tapatalk, Camera360 Ultimate, Root Explorer, Foursquare.
Mostly I use the Twitter client and the browser. Location services are disabled.
It is hard to figure out from the above apps or which is the most probable suspect. Just incase the problem recurs on your phone, dial this: *#*#4636#*#*, Go to Usage statistics and Battery Information and please report back (include also information on the Battery Use in Settings).
I hope we can help others avoid having this problem until there is a fixed solution.

Did what you suggested and pulled the battery at 30% waited 5 minutes and put it back in.... 1hr later it was at 35% (WTF!) and 30min later it was at 38% (WTF!)

Not necessarily. Maybe the battery meter is anticipating the fast consumption rate of Android OS that is why when it got fixed, the meter is able to readjust the readings based from the current consumption rate of your phone. Good to know it helped
Maybe use the 'forbidden' task killer? Works for me... Maybe im imagening it but works.
Btw my battery goes quickly down after getting below 25%. My battery not calibrated? Should i.calibrate it? I have this program to do it but am afraid that calibration goes wrong. (example what if my battery is 95% and will calibrate to 100. What if.i charge my battery higher than this.. Will it show 104%? Or will android stop working for it cannot be displayed in the notificationbar.

You do not have to recalibrate. Cm7 has a known issue about battery. I think you cannot charge past 94 or 95 percent and battery usage is a bit terrible. Please refer to cm7 thread for possible fixes, (the last time I checked their thread, they say it is probably kernel related).
Just turning off, pulling the battery and turning on does do a lot for me! i went from 10% per hour to only 1%! great thnx!

About battery drain in gb, once fixed the wifi sleep policy issue ( by setting it to "never") u shouldn't have batt drain, but i've installed green power ( juice defender do the work too i think) to get some wifi management possibility back and it improuved my batt life.
But never the less, my battery won't last more than one day of hard usage ( being hanged on xda all day long, for instance ;-)

Guys, on Gingerbread I've had battery drain two times:
1. Had about 14% drain in 3 hours all of a sudden, without doing anything at all. Just started going down for some reason.
2. This morning, saw about 40% drain in 7 hours..
And, both time I solved it by Clearing Memory from the Task Manager.. Went back to normal 2-3% drain per 6-7 hours after that..
So this might also be a solution. Go to Task Manager, RAM tab, and Clear Memory..
i'm on ginger also and my battery acts weird. 2 days ago i charged my phone over night while it was closed. the battery holds for 15 hours with massive use.
last night i did it again, but today it went from 98% to 80% in about an hour !
this is really weird.

Did you manage to check first what is running on your device by looking into Battery Usage settings? I think you have a case of rogue application running in the background.
If you have not rebooted yet could you please attach a screenshot of the battery usage list and graph? In that way we might possibly identify the app running prior to the clearing of memory. Thanks!

My Battery is draining like crazy. I tried almost everything to figure out what is the issue but could not figure out. Below are the details I gathered from the things I tried.
My battery started draining almost 30 % overnight. Initially I thought it was due to the Unofficial Marshmallow Rom, I could see Wi-Fi to be cause of this drain. Hence I tried different Roms (Cyanogen Mod, PA, DarkObas, Sultan ROM, and stock Cyanogen OS ( Past 3 versions, including latest one). but the battery drain didn't stop.
So I decided to flash PA rom again, installed OpenGapps PICO (Only Google play service nothing else). I installed CPU spy and left it over night in Airplane mode. When I checked in the morning (after 7 hours) battery drain was of 25 %. This was surprising as nothing was running on my phone and only the minimum apps were installed. At this time, CPU spy showed no abnormal wake locks and was in Deep Sleep for almost 93% of the total time. The stock battery usage showed only Mobile Stand by and usage of 50 mAh.
Can you please help me figure out what is causing the battery drain.

Did you try to disable Location>Scanning>Wi-Fi scanning & Bluetooth Scanning? I had a similar situation and started using amplify + greenify on Resurrection Remix and now I have a very good battery life...

Yes I already tried that. The strange thing is Battery drain is observed in Airplane mode also, while minimum apps installed(Stock apps with PA rom and Opengapps Pico package). Do you have any other suggestions.
It's really hard to judge what could be your issue, you can try different methods to find out who is the actual culprit.May be an app eating your battery or device might have nasty wakelocks,alarms etc or the battery itself would be damaged etc.
Anyways,Turn off ambient display, install BetterBatteryStats then run a full cycle and analyze entire stats of your battery, you'll get know the issue or at least a clue. If you couldn't find out the issue after BetterBatteryStats test then clean flash the a ROM(Recommends CandySix or Darkobas ) w/o GApp and give it a try

Sounds like your battery cannot hold its charge anymore.
How old is your OPO? May be your battery life is about to over.
And this battery drain suddenly started or gradually increased?
Try diagnosing by changing the Location settings to device only. It's some weird bug with COS and CM that's making it to the latest builds of 6.0.1 . I saw that older builds in May don't have this problem.

Unfortunately, Problem still exists even with the Brand New battery. Can any hardware issue cause this issue? It's certainly not Battery problem and not software problem as well.

You really should have taken my advice earlier and diagnose before making any decisions. If your battery truly was dying, then apps like 3C and Geekbench's battery test would've picked this up as they've linear-regression curve data from aggregate sources that you could've compared to. In your OP, you stated that you saw WiFi as a culprit, but did you also know that Google Play Services (depending on version) can do location requests up to 78 times within the hour on stock apps alone? I used to have this similar battery issue, but that was related to location-requests from Google Play Services that somehow propagated to other sources based on CM13's July commit, meaning that kernels also based on this could've been affected as well. What I eventually settled for, in the meantime, is using SultanXDA's 08082016 build and so far everything looks good on Wifi regarding what I expect for typical battery performance. If I learn something, I'll come back to report on it.

I did took your advice and checked Location services. The problem occurs even with Wi-fi, 3G and Location desiabled. Also in Airplane mode with almost nothing installed (only gapps PICO package and CPUSpy)

You might wanna try that. Possibly MM eating through. I still use Lollipop too. I find no need for MM yet. Also MM feels anti-dev to me for some reason :/ Needs all workarounds for things that were previously much easy to do. Oh well. Try Lollipop and see if it helps? It'd have been my first step for troubleshooting before buying a new battery

Yesterday, I left my phone in Recovery mode (TWRP 3.0.2.0). In less then 5 hours, I observed battery drain of 20%. Same amount of drain is observed when running MM rom. I don't think changing to Lollipop will help. To me it looks like some hardware issue, can any hardware beside battery cause such issue?
Android system is using lot of battery more than screen. It's not optimised well. any fixes?
Same here. And I did a factory reset after updating to Oreo... High android system battery drain, I wonder what happened? Hopefully we got a fix soon.
Same here even after factory resetting android system draining most of the battery.
Is it really draining or do you only see it in stats? To be honest I stopped checking detailed battery stats, looking at discharging rate chart + idle battery drain (when the screen is off) are usually enough to say if there is a problem. Battery usage chart should be almost flat when you don't use your phone, Oreo has quite strong and fast doze mode.
Make sure it's really draining because Bluetooth shows me 12000+mAh spent with 80% battery left so obviously a bug in the charts not in the system itself. (Same goes for RCS)
Same here. I have RCS first in battery consumption then the screen. With nougat the chart of the battery had flat zones. With Oreo the chart is always descending even when not using the phone
We must wait for the january update, i think it will be fixed

same issue with me. I have not checked for the January patch yet. I am rooted via magisk, lovin' the gcam in mi a1.
the bluetooth battery drain issue is the only problem in my unit so far.
I too had the system battery drain problem.I solved it by removing my SD card and disabling "backup" in setting menu.
I got the same problem after updating to the January patch.
I read that the "APP preview messages" in Google options can be the problem, so i am checking this out with and without the option and look a the wakelock detector what it does.

This is a bug. Has been fixed with January security update.
I even have Bluetooth on ( cause I have a smartwatch) and it's using almost nothing

Im rooted with magisk and twrp,there is a thread that give a way how to get ota without losing root with magisk but i still afraid because they didn't mention if it would be fine if i have twrp recovery. What should i do to get January update without losing root and twrp,?

DRAIN PROBLEM FIXED:
After some tests yesterday and over the night (while i was a sleep) with help of wakelock detector, i got my drain problem fixed by turning off the "APP preview messages" in Google options menu.
So try it maybe it works for you guys!

Damn, do you have wakelock detector lite installed? Just install it and keep it running for a couple of hours he will show you more information.
I've found that is that kernel wakeup: 7000000.ssusb that keep my phone alive also in standby...someone else with this problem? any solution? Thanks.

You can fix the standby battery drain by enabling "Data Saver"

Go to settings and type "data saver" in the search box - switch it on.
I have stock OREO ROM, no fancy battery saving apps or custom kernel.
I bought the mi A1 about 9 months ago and it was working fine up until 6 weeks ago.
The battery has started to drain big time and the Android system is consuming most of the power.
I've tried the below already,
1. Calibrating my battery.
2. Factory reset to January update.
3. Stopping the apps running in the background.
4. Turning off location / wifi and internet.
5. Tried disabling backup of photos.
6. Disabled app preview messages under Google.
7. Tried replacing the physical battery at the service center.
8. Currently running on the June 2018 patch.
Despite doing all this the battery drains big time, even when it's idle, when I'm sleeping.
I'm unable to upload screenshot because it keeps saying that there's a network issue. But the screenshot stats say that the android os consumes most of the battery and SoT was 30 minutes. Phone was idle for most of the time. It came down 100-20% in a few hours.
Android OS is eating away most of the battery.
Does anyone have suggestions or a solution for this? It's really annoying.
Download GSAM Battery Monitor and enable extra stats via the app and a few simple commands through PC. Check what is draining your battery its probably the same thing which is killing my battery in stand by. There are hundreds and thousands of Kernel wake locks via a file called 7000000.ssusb which has no permanent solutions yet.

Thank you for the response. A few other forums indicated 7000000.ssusb could be the cause too. Is there anything at all to disable it?

Void kernel doesn't block wakelocks. If that is your main concern, flash MetaPheonix or Mint kernel. Visit their respective XDA posts and check out.

Has anyone any ideas, if I turn my x727 off the battery will drain to zero in a few hours. If I just set to airplane mode battery is good for three or four days. Accubattery shows battery in low nineties for remaining capacity. Currently using AICP pie ROM but also did this on lineage and AEX ROMs. I don't even know what to check as phone is off. Any help appreciated.

Only thing I can think of in order to discard some things are:
When did you notice this? after some modding? Have you flashed the recomended firmware for your device from the first post of AICP thread?
Then just for test:
While the device is off, connect the charger to see if the charging screen appears.
Then power on and once in AICP reboot to TWRP and from there just power off with TWRP menu, wait few hours, power on and see if there were battery drain while off.

Thanks, it has done it for about one year, kind of thought about powering down from twrp. Have just been hitting airplane mode instead of powering down all this time. Firmware is correct. I thought something must be hanging. Appreciate the insight.
Just tried the shutdown from twrp. Battery went from 45 to 16 in one hour of shutdown. I am befuddled.
hello i have the same problem. i bought Lex722 as used one
i installed fresh Lineage OS.
when phone is off it drains in about 1-2 days down.
So i replaced the Battery with a new Battery. But... it get also down.. to i think its an hardware problem
one more thing: i charged from 0-90% . the Battery gets really hot. (Original charger). so maybe something with charging unit in the phone not ok
I have an X722 and I have a similar problem, after changing the display I have some problems like the one you mentioned, battery drain in stand by and my smartphone charging above 80% it shuts down and starts draining the battery, has anyone tried Qfil to try to solve this problem? or is it a hardware thing?

I have an X722 and I have a similar problem, after changing the display I have some problems like the one you mentioned, battery drain in stand by and my smartphone charging above 80% it shuts down and starts draining the battery, has anyone tried Qfil to try to solve this problem? or is it a hardware thing?

I think I had something hanging and the phone not really shutting itself off completely. Did a wipe when doing an update and it fixed itself.
I have similar problem too, have X722, started somewhere in summer, spring where basically discharged by 10-20% daily when not using..
I always update to latest AICP. Just replaced battery today and still seems there is a small drain, charged to 100% for the first time, 2 minutes of usage and already down by 3%.
This may or may not help. You need to track down all the hogs. These were two that caused me endless issues. I tried disabling backup by switching it off and this and that... until going full rambo on Google.
Google Backup Transport and Backup Framework wuv to run amuck even with screen off.
I finally package block them and firewall blocked them. Clearing their data, as well as Goggle Play Services* and system/residual data caches if they act up.
Now it's stopped.

Can I successfully disable them by just disabling their services in MyAndroidTools? (just checked and i already had them disabled)
I also have Magisk module - Universal GMS Doze.

Yeah but portions* will still run in the background just like the malware it is.
Hence the firewall and the frequent data deletes.
Maybe 10 or 11 is better behaved but it doesn't seem that way from what I'm reading... they look worse than Pie. With unrooted phones they even block more user diagnostic tools than Pie, perfect. Pretty sure my 10+ will run on Pie for its whole service life because Google dropped the ball.
Fortunately Pie is a good OS... add to that AT&T and their partner Samsung are notorious for device killing near update end cycle firmware.
Not updating is simply an act of device self preservation.
*hopefully you can pull these weeds out better than I can on an unrooted device.
