Challenge: how to trick Android 6.0+ time & date? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi Guys,
I have a very specific challenge for the ones who know more than me.
Problem statement:
- I'm a diabetic and wear a certain glucose sensor which can se scanned via NFC with the mobile phone to measure blood glucose. It can be scanned either via manufacurer's app, or other 3rd party apps (like Glimp)
- problem is that this sensor is "set" to only last 14 days, on the dot!
- I've figured out that this "duration" is highly dependant on the time/date of the Android device/time of sensor activation: if I set the time back a few days it will show more time left of the sensor but the app has a built-in feature which does not allow me to scan the sensor if the Android's "Automatic time/date detection" feature is turned OFF, hence the predicament
The Challenge is to trick the app to think the app into thinking the "Automatic time/date detection" is turned ON, while being able to alter the device's time (into the past) so it would allow more run time days out of the sensor (which is quite expensive to replace and otherwise seems to be able to work just fine for a longer period).
Would this be possible? It would sure help me a lot!

try the next:
-turn off time/date auto update
-set up date what you want
-enter airplane mod... make sure wifi turned off too
-turn on time/date auto update
hit thanks if it working

Hi,
Thanks for your reply! Unfortunately, the time sets back to current time once I re-enable Automatic time/date.
Wifi/4G OFF + Plane mode ON.

@yussuf007 - you da' man!
With a little bit more tinkering I managed to fool the thing. Procedure is the following:
- enter airplane mode ... no need to turn off wifi/4G, they will be off once airplane is enabled
-turn off time/date auto update
- set up date what you want
- RESTART PHONE
- turn back ON time/date auto update
- turn back ON NFC
- Scan sensor. The thing now thinks it's back in time and works fine.
Thanks again!

Tasker - Configure your DHD to safe energy

Hi,
some people asked what to do until their DHD arrives. They proposed some games...
I have a better suggestion.
Many people suffer short battery and there are many discussions and tipps like turn your GPS off, disable 3G connection if you don't need it. That's all perfectly right. Do you now that you can perfectly automate this by using an app called tasker. You can configure very very much.
I don't have an android phone at the moment (waiting for my DHD), but I have a vision what to configure when it have arrived. I would like to write and test the scripts beforehand but I can't. See my configuration proposals below. Maybe somebody with an android phone is happy to script it and shorten waiting time. Or somebody with a DHD can do it and report the effect.
Description - Version 1.0
Number 1a:
IF the screen is locked/black screen (I'm not using the phone)
switch to 2g
ELSE (screen is unlocked)
switch to 3g
ENDIF
Alternative Number 1b (Even more powerful):
IF the screen is locked/black screen and I'm not using the phone
switch to 2g and switch off data connection.
every 30 minutes switch on the data connection for 5 minutes for synching (facebook and so on)
ELSE (the screen is unlocked)
switch to 3g + data connection
ENDIF
**Description number 1: It's quiet energy consuming for your the phone to hold the 3g connection, even more in areas with bad connection or during driving/moving. On the other hand you don't need that fast connection if you don't surf or use apps. So if your phone is locked only 2g is used. This is enough in order to sync facebook & co. This first condition is also known as juicedefender mode
Number 2:
IF navigation/maps software is started
switch GPS on
ELSE
Leave GPS off
ENDIF
**Description number 2: GPS is energy consuming as well. So turn it off and let it turn on if the apps x, y, z are launched.
Number 3:
IF I'm in a predefined GPS oder cellular zone (at home)
Turn on WLAN
ELSE
turn off WLAN
ENDIF
(This means if I'm leaving home, WLAN turns off.)
**Description number 3: WLAN is energy consuming as well. So turn it off and let it turn on if you are in an are where you know you have WLAN, e.g. at home, at work, at you daily coffee shop.
Number 4:
IF phone is switches in the car holder
switch GPS on
start the car panel
start mp3 player (Winamp beta)
(some people may ad "turn on bluetooth" here)
ELSEIF the phone is switched off the car holder
turn off GPS
stop car panel
stop MP3
ENDIF
(This means if I'm leaving my car, GPS is turned off)
**Description number 4: Just to make live comfortable.

prob not the correct spot to ask, but how battery consuming is tasker? I've tried locale on some of my older android phones and they drained more battery with locale then without due to polling time and position, is tasker any different?
Can Tasker switch 3G to 2G and vice versa? Last time I checked, it cannot do that.
Came from the developer:
http://groups.google.com/group/tasker/browse_thread/thread/acda45a4fac8a651
@arielext: Tasker does not drain a lot of battery. I own and use Tasker, my HTC Desire battery life is still the same compare to before using Tasker.

From the examples I see above it seems that Tasker doesn't act on locations but on hard coded rules.
Nevertheless, I wonder if the monitoring of all the conditions I see in the scripts will actually save the battery. Are there any comparissons made?
I am having a problem with the GPS on in Tasker. I try to turn it on when the Car Panel starts (no dock to dected so far), but it seems to ignore tasker command. The task runs ok, as I placed a notification sound for testing, but the GPS just stays off. Anyone experiencing the same problem?
(it did work on Milestone with Locale)

Note 4 Power Saving automatically turns off

Hi guys,
Having an issue with my Note 4 (SM-N910F) international version since the MM 6.0.1 update. I received a further update after the MM 6.0.1 recently and thought the issue would've been fixed but alas, no!
Current version of Software: N910FXXS1DPE7.
Issue is, I have power saving mode turned on and set to: Start power saving "Immediately". However it keeps getting turned off and the screen becomes bright and I could not recognise a pattern how this occurs.
Things tried so far:
-Unticked automatic brightness and dragged all the way to low.
-Smart stay was/is never ticked.
-Auto adjust screen tone is ticked, but unticking that and also leaving automatic brightness turned off still causing power saving to automatically turn off.
-I have tried to check for this issue in Safe mode and it still happens.
Any ideas of what could be causing this? I do not want to do a factor reset for this issue and if it can be avoided after all. Safe mode is somewhat similar isn't it?
I have noticed the issue occur when I start using Gmail app (not the Inbox one), but that is just one scenario.
It seems like the light sensor gets triggered when it faces bright light and turns off power saving mode and screen becomes bright, but just could be a red herring.
Thanks a million!

I have just one problem like yours. When i receive Marshmallow i just update. But Power Saving turns off every reboot. Just back to factory settings and make your wipes. I solve this with wipes and factory.

Thanks. Yeah I am trying to avoid factory reset because can't go thorugh the process of installing apps, setting up all the various accounts etc especially since there is no built in fully restorable backup feature. Family man with kids and have enough IT stuff to do at work.
I'm on stock/non-rooted device also. And this will be my last Samung device, if not the last Android!
I understand you very well. You can use HELIUM apk to make your nandroid backups without root and make easier this tedious work. I don't have rooted my phone but helium makes all faster that, and i use also wondershare mobile go for android and PC.
I hope this helps you and you can resolve your problem. Good luck and regards from Switzerland - (Mexico)

Thanks Tavok. I did download Helium and wanted to test it out, however my phone is now staying in Power Saving mode since a few days! I have done nothing new, didn't uninstall any app or change any settings as such for it to work. This is bugging me because I want to know what fixed it so that I can re-apply the fix again if need be.
I've also read that some people are complaining about Note 4 getting stuck in Power Saving mode and I hope this is not the case with mine, now that it seems to work as expected.
I will update this thread once I check it out further.
I found out how this power saving mode gets turned off. It is the Location settings. If location is off, the power saving mode stays on (this is what it was set to hence I didn't see the issue happening). But when I changed it back to High accuracy, I started to notice the power saving getting turned off from time to time when using certain applications that require Location accuracy.
This is a bug since the MM update!!
Any ideas how to use Location accuracy and still retain Power saving mode?
I did a factory reset and the issue persisted! I tried various location settings(of the 3 choices) asks none of them helped. When set to any one of them power saving automatically turns off after a while I.e. when location needs to be detected. The only workaround us to turnoff location altogether but that messes with the auto sync of accounts! Grrrrrrrr
I verified with Samsung Tech Support that Location and Power Saving are incompatible on the Galaxy Note 4, even with the latest Android version available for the device (6.0.1) . In other words, Turning on Location while Power Saving is active will disable Power Saving after a short period. Fortunately, the problem is fixed on later devices.

Help S7Edge Nougat - Two finger scroll/tap (talkback off) won't go away

Hi together,
just was able to update to upgrade to Nougat. (O2 Germany)
I just have one big problem. I have to control the screen like Talkback is activated. But it isn't. (two finger scroll, tap and so on)
Does anybody have an idea how I get rid of that really annoying thing? If possible without factory reset. My Phone isnt rooted.
My Google and forum search hasn't helped me. The answers were always turn off Talkback, which it is already.

I had the same problem yesterday after the update, took some time to change back to normal behavior: restarted in safe mode, changed the resolution back to WQHD, changed some accessibility settings, like turning it on for Nova Launcher and turn off optical reader (I don't know why it was turned on...). After that I restarted to normal and seemed to work ok but then I turned on the accessibility feature optical reader again, too see what it does and the screen was only with 2 finger operable again, so I turned it off.
You can disable/remove Talkback in the application settings. Try in safe mode if it's not possible in normal mode. I tried to change the Talkback settings in the system settings (searched for Talkback) and it said in a pop-up that it isn't compatible with the system, so I removed it completely.
Thank you so much norti!!!!!!!!! Had the same issue with S7 (T-Mobile USA), and your advice helped!!! Actually, it was the only one I could find so far
Thank you Norti
Thank you so much. I had the same problem after performing the software update over night last night. I was so frustrated with it and the techs at the sprint store spent an hour with my phone and could not fix it. The techs recommended that I back up all my contacts and everything and then do a factory reset. I did not want to do a factory reset and searched the internet for a long time before coming across your post. I turned off optical reader and it fixed the two finger problem. Thank you so much for sharing this as I would have been lost without it.
Exactly the same happened with my S7 edge, almost drove me crazy before I figured out that it was Optical reader in accessibility that caused the problem.
That worked
Thank you for the correct fix post. Optical Reader off did it for me, too. Spent all morning wading through "Cool features of Nougat" and getting ready to break my S7 while calls were coming in...

I figured that it had to be the optical reader as that was one of the incompatible apps it reinstalled after the upgrade. Had to use two fingers to get through most menu-options, frustrating, to manage to disable it. Glad to see I wasn't the only ripping my Hair out experiencing this issue. Hope they fix it.
For future reference (in German):
This works:
Einstellungen > Eingabehilfe > "Text & Bildscanner": turn off ("Aus")

50% more battery tip on Wear24 (and other LTE AW watches) -> ~3 Days /w Min Usage

so i have been seeing REALLY crappy battery usage on my wear24 on aw2.7 despite turning off alot of things and barely using any apps.
now i EVEN have always-on ambient , and my watch lasts almost 3 days. since its always on, i rarely need to use the watch (eg. wake). i use the Sleek face which shows my agenda , weather, date, various other info on my face all the time so i just look at it. and incoming messages are shown still. here is what i do:
-KEY THING: AIRPLANE MODE! eventho i turn off LTE in connecticvity, i dont know if its a bug, but it's super annoying it keeps coming back on. this is the #1 change that improved it IMMENSELY. i think this turns off alot of useless wake functions and sync'ing
-turn off wifi (auto still keeps searching)
-only use BT
-delete msg+ / my verizon
-turn off OK google / tilt to wake
- no gestures
- no location
-turn on always on
One more thing if anyone can figure out, the watch auto turns on battery saver when under 10%. i'm curious if we can force this mode when its at 100%.
How did you delete msg+ / my verizon? With "adb?
Thanks,
Rob
update to AW 2.7, u can disable via system apps
turning off every thing is not called smart, better buy a normal watch then
I'm not going to try all of these things, but I have noticed that it re-enables the cellular radio. I'm going to try putting it in airplane mode and just keeping the bluetooth connection on. My only issue is, is there any way to get rid of the airplane icon on the watchface?

I believe rebooting the watch is what turns on the cell signal. Mine stays off until I reboot. You don't need to turn on airplane mode to turn off the cell signal. I was going to write an app to do this automatically on boot, but can't unless someone finds a method to root it.
For the always on feature, the watch face actually changes to a different face from the one I set. It's like a screen saver version of the face which I am using. Is there any way to fix the face throughout?
And how do you guy update to 2.7? Mine updated to 2.0 and it says it's the latest version.
And where is the setting for the power saving mode? Mine enter power saving at 15%.

You can disable the charging display by going into app settings and disabling the charging app. I never found a way to keep the screen lit up while charging even with the always on enabled so I wrote an app to do it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.turndapage.watchwake

You're taking about ambient display. The app that sets your watch face controls that. Some have settings for this either on watch or on phone, some don't and you can't change it if you're using that face. I use watchmaker, which lets me edit every image layer in my faces and select which parts stay on. Also can create layers only visible in ambient mode.

got adb over wifi going, got the apk from apk mirror (the watch specific wear apk), then did something like
adb connect 192.168.0.102 (or whichever ip your watch gets)
put the apk in the directory where my command window was
adb -s 192.168.0.102 install -r wearapp.apk
BUT, this is not necessary anymore. 2.8 just installs automatically now from play store on the watch.
You can just block message+ in the notifications screen, and install messages from play store

I just got mine for $43 on eBay and it went from 93% down to 2% on a single reboot. It then stayed on 2% from 6:30pm til 6:50am when it finally died. So I charged it from 0% to 59% then it jumped to 100%. Then it discharged to 77% and then dropped to 43%. sounds like a calibration issue.
On the plus side, unlike the moto 360 it appears the back is actually screwed on instead of glued on which is great news. I may unscrew it when I get home and see how easy the battery is to access.

No Wifi whilst in flight mode?

Hi, I'm running a rooted stock Oreo (version 8.0.0) and I've just discovered that when I turn flight mode on, if I then turn wifi on, I get the pop-up message "In flight mode" and the wifi icon in Quick Settings stays a light blue shade but Wifi doesn't actually turn on.
I may be mistaken but I thought this was working last year and I haven't done any updates to the phone.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
Kind regards,
Mack.
Hi, I'm pretty sure you can use this:
SystemUI Tuner - Apps on Google Play
PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE INSTALLING
play.google.com
One of the settings allows you to tune Airplane Mode.
Just to update - I think there must have been some kind of data corruption... I did a factory reset and it all worked correctly again.
