Themes? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Ok, so I am thinking about buying a V20. I have had a G2, it could use normal LG Home themes, based on the looks of things, the V20 cannot use these themes, is that the case?
Can the V20 use old themes, like the ones that worked on the G2, G3, G4, V10, G Flex, and G Flex 2?
If not, can I use the G4 LG home, to get the themes that worked on it? I like the LG G4 UX better than the current one.

No. The current theme engine that the V20 uses only works on Nougat based LG roms which only the V20, Stylo, and G5 have.

Thank you.
SOoo, there is no way to use older themes on Nougat. Is there any way to get the icons from the G4/V10?
If I buy a V20, what is the chance that it will bootloop like the G4 and V10 before it?

Oh damn! This news made my day.
Make it happen LG, come on.
Interesting that this still lists the V507L (the 4G LTE version) even though it's not been released yet and many people think it never will.
Nice! I was thinking to move to CM11 now that it seems to support HDMI working (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49601193), but if this update happens soon I'll wait for it... :fingers-crossed:

Yea but the update still keeps lg's crappy skin and bloatware intact while the cm11 rom doesn't. Plus you won't be waiting around for likely a long time to grt the update. BUT at least lg's rom is guaranteed to work with basically every app while there are lots of reports that cm11 roms don't work with a number of games.

actually, you can delete the bloatware. LG actually lets you delete it while others just let you disable it. pretty sure I did this to some aps before I went with cm rom.
Ohh, that's awesome. I've been enjoying the LG 4.2.2 ROM, but this will just sweeten the deal. Looks like the industry as a whole is expecting to get their flagship lineups to 4.4 and will probably leave them there; that'll probably make the consumer market happy for a year (or at least until their next wave of products hit). In the meantime, there's always CM!

I don't think the LG software is that bad, especially if you use a 3rd party launcher. It's true that the custom roms look nicer, but sounds like you lose some features, e.g., Slimport.
For me, the best solution is a customized rom based on LG stock that is compatible with all the apps, but cleans up the interface a little.

Agreed. A custom launcher would be nice, but this will do for me. I love me my Knock On (power button? What's that?) and HDMI. And as non-stock as LG's interface is, it's still far closer to stock than most OEMs and will work for me. I'm coming from Acer and Asus tablets and it's much more like them than Samsung, etc.

I am hoping that article is correct. I used to use CM11 on my old tablet but tried it and a couple others on my LG and missed the LG interface. SO I am now running stock with Apex. A 4.4 update should be nice.
I don't mind the interface. Frankly I tend to ignore them on tablets. I use a tablet for it's apps not for how pretty the icons look...
I considering trying a custom ROM but I need slimport as I output the tablet to HDMI.
I also read that the knock on feature does not work with customer roms and I actually like that function.
4.4 with everything working is just fine with me.
Now we wait.
Unless of courses Samsung releases it's new Tab Pro 8.4 before then. I'm planning on picking it up.

Well, I don't wait anymore. Knock on and off works with CM11 and Mahdi ; HDMI through slimport as well. It might even work with the other roms, but I haven't tried them.
This is good news as I'm still running the stock 4.2.2 LG Rom on my g pad 8.3 and don't feel like messing around with custom rooms hopefully it comes out soon.

A few questions before buying?

1. I am struggling beween S4 and LG G2.. LG UI is ugly, imo. S4's apps are far more beautiful as well. Is it possible to bugglesly theme LG G2?
2. Screen. I went to store to check them out and LG G2 screen looks kind of pale comparing to S4. Is it just me?
3. IS LG G2 a good quality phone? Did you have any problems with it? I will use the phone for 2 years, so.
3. How is headphone sound? I listen to music like 3 hours a day. It is very important for me.. Also i am able to get only 16gb version, another plus to S4, that it supports sd cards.
4. Whitch phone would you get: S4 or LG G2 (both of them cost the same)?
5. Are you overal happy with your phone? Would you exchange it for any other phone (despite G3)?
Please, answer. If you can't answer all the questions, answer one or two. It will help me anyways! Thank you

LG Optimus UX 5.0

How much you like the new LG UI design by ending the app drawer.. fell awful to me
I think it's called LG UX 5.0, but whatever...
Personally I don't like it, I don't care about missing app drawer, because I'm using Nova Launcher, but this new white and simplier UI looks much worse than current unique and nice LG UX 4.0.
It reminds me iOS or MIUI.
Btw. Here is how the new UX 5.0 looks like

P.S. You could add poll to this thread
Oweral feels much better then ux4, no app drawer is something I dont like but as I read somewere new android N will miss app drawer as well, so it would be new way for android ux.

does the V10 still use UX 4.0?
I actually hate the new UX5. And why did they remove dual window and QSlide apps?

Is that true? I read the G5 doesn't have that option, only the galaxy s7 has that option. And besides that, who actually needs the launcher, I prefer the Google Now launcher, and there are plenty of other options like Nova-launcher, Action-launcher, fully customizable to your likings.
The part I hate the most on UX 5.0 is missing the dual screen option. I use it quite a lot on my G3, especially since I rooted my device and altered the Buildprop to be able to run all the apps on dual screen. But maybe that option will come to the G5 later on. I've heard rumours that the next version of android will support dual screen multitasking.

Will lg puss update of ux 5.0 in older g series device?
optimus ux 5.0 come to lg v10?

A user from lg g pro 2

Hello guys! Our g pro 2 forum is very poorly developed and you guys get all the good stuff. I was wondering what will happen if i will flash mods from themes category? I mean it is same 1080p screens. Should i try it?
do NOT flash anything that is not specifically made for your phone. The g2 and optimus g pro2 are not the same, nothing will work between them. All you might end up with is a bricked phone.

LG G2 mini

Does any of the LG G2 roms run on G2 Mini? Cloudy roms perhaps?
G2 mini is a totally different phone, it has nothing in common with the regular G2.
