[Question] Is it possible to install this rom from another device with the same specs - Xiaomi Redmi 3s Questions & Answers

I was searching a bit about snapdragon 430 and the devices that use it.
And i came across a device with the same specs as redmi 3s(land)
So, i was wondering,
Could we use it?
Its stable and built on AOSP

No. You'll have to ask the developers to 'PORT' the ROM to run on the intended device.

Well, i suppose it wont be hard to to that since the hardware is exactly the same

Hardware is same
The kernel is not.
Some stuff like fingerprint sensor wouldn't work.

Those are stock ROM links, probably not much interesting in these ROM's anyway

The kernels are different, CPU frequencies also different.

Kernel still isn't the same.
You can try replacing the vendor directory, and the /system/etc/firmware directory, and you will still get many features don't work.

Benefits of cracked Bootloader?

Hi, I was just curious to know what the benefits of a cracked boot loader is and what features we could implement or achieve that we already have.
With this we should put custom kernels on our devices, and this way we should eliminate major bugs with GingerBread and Froyo, since some of stuff are made with patches over stock libs (I´m not certain about that, but it was what I understood while reading some threads). By the way, tethering over cyanogenmod menu, is only possible if we get custom kernel, if I´m not wrong doixahn said that. To end it up, with bootloader cracked, we may hope for more stability over our devices

a kernel is the linux core containing drivers for all the hardware. Basically if we crack it we can add drivers for camera for example and make it work say face detection or autofocus or whatever from any other device drivers (like X10) plus adding the lib's straight into kernel not patching in and out

Lineage OS?

Do you think we will have a lineageos build for huawei nova?
That would be great, but first we need a rom base for any rom....
After my exams in february I would like to try porting Lineage OS to our huawei nova...but thats not a promise, it's an "Let's try and hope.."
Too bad there was not activity on this phone yet.
I really really hoped this gonna replace my Nexus 5 ( the >5 inch / 70cm width trend sucks - phones are just too big!) - but nooope..
I had it already in the hands, good that I didn't bought it. But I maybe would if someone would work on it
Once huawei releases kernel source I will start working on it.

Did they release those for previous phones too?
I figured since this is a snapdragon device the chance for roms will be much higher. Since they don't really release anything for their own chipsets iirc.

I think they released the kernel for many phones in the past..but you can also extract it from the stock firmware..so that shouldn't be a problem to build lineage for this device, but it takes time.. ?

ElementalX Kernel

Hi there people,
I've been hearing good things about ElementalX kernel, but from what I see there isn't this kernel for our phone, what do you think?

Why don't just choose from available kernels instead? The dev of elementalX kernel is not supporting bacon because he does not have this device.

Already using Franco kernel but why not try this one if it was possible(or if someone ported this to our device)? ...thread was created about this kernel and not talk about alternatives

If he says you need then ok if he doesn't and gives his source like that then no ...just port it and say it's his - problems solved. You get into technical problems while I comment on what you think about the kernel and/or if someone is willing to do a port(asking dev if needed OC)

Gather 10 skilled devs to work around 3.18.xx for a few months and you'll have a pretty decent stable core with quite a few benefits ...but kernel isn't like roms, needs fine tuning and when we're talking about upped versions there are some restrictions, you need to create workarounds for some stuff and some devs don't like to do that and since we've got no actual open source drivers workarounds are inevitable

Yeap true still it's the future and there won't be one if we stuck in 3.4.x (3.4.x already reached EOL - https://www.kernel.org/category/releases.html - linux kernels EOL )
P.S. Sultan tried to make a kernel but saw it would require too much time and effort and stopped, if he has time and passion about the kernel this would have a much better future. It's obvious that a proper optimized kernel does have benefits(of course to match the maturity of 3.4.x is not an easy thing ...still this would make our phone last 5+ years ....if a proper stable 3.18.x kernel was around) - not sure if the electronics of my 1+1 would live by then but just saying

Yeap, wish we had some devs working on:
3.18.x for our device
bring treble for our device(not sure if this can be done) - not just have android O(without treble)
This would ensure that the phone would live until all the electronics die from natural cause(age)
I think @erorcun was working on 3.10 and then 3.18 before his screen broke.
I don't know how common it is for devices to have merged or official kernel jumps, but I remember the S3 starting with 3.0 and ending at 3.4. CM builds got it first and then miraculously followed suit in the final OTA, which nobody who cared about their bootloader ever took.

Well oneplus won't give you anything ..that's a sure thing. Usually they don't up the kernel version. You get a phone with 3.10 it will die with 3.10.
The real problem comes with the drivers of the device. In order to get a real fully functional kernel without workarounds we need the help of qualcomm, would they provide drivers so we can have a real 3.18 kernel with proper support from android o? ...of course not, why do that when they can sell you a new phone with better SoC(they have a company to run and to do that they want to sell SoC ...so you should buy a new phone )

I think OP wanted to ask why it's not possible to just clone the source code from a newer oxygen version (from oxygen open source) and adjust it for oneplus2 (like dev's do it with new devices and Lineage/AOSP/Other roms).
I guess it would be possible (as devs took the oxygenOSS device, kernel source and adjusted it for android 7.1.1 AOSP, so it should be possible to do it the other way too?) but its an incredible amount of work to even get it to compile..
Edit: Btw, is my hypothesis right? xD

I think the main problem would be device drivers like HAL3 for the camera. Yes, we already have it on N, but it isn't as good as it would be like OEM

They already did xD Though it's very device specific. Oneplus oxygenOS opensource
@FPSUsername
I think camera is the smallest problem (my pictures are as good on HAL1 as on HAL3). But if someone could port this, it would be insane (just because OOS N for Op2)

If you look at the history of op2, it already is a shame for Oneplus xD.
I think custom roms had the networkdrop fix before official oos?
As all those users who bought an op2, with all those problems and bad support (3/3t/5 became more supp from op..) it would be just fair if op opensources all they have. But thats a dream i know xD.

It will NEVER work to just instal a rom from a different device (except for same phones with different name, e.g. Mi4s/Mi4c) ....

Android 6 for Blue Vivo Air LTE ?

Anybody knows if there is a 6er update for the LTE Qualcomm Version?
Maybe for a similar build, Tornado Fly?
cheers
As I see your device has Snapdragon 410, I can try to port a Custom ROM or a Custom recovery if you want
processor info in "about device" says Qualcomm MSM8916
current build is BLU_V0010UU_V13_Generic with android 5.0.2
Kernel 3.10.49
That's nice. Is your device rooted?
Do you have any experience in flashing custom roms/custom recoveries?
i did root it, dont know which method i used,
tried to put on a trwp, but didnt find a version that worked as i recall..
so how would it work, do you have a FW for the phone?

I probably will port TWRP from a similar device that has MSM8916.
And no, I don't have the firmware (i'll research soon) neither the phone.
oh, ok. but twrp without a matching 6er rom wouldnt help me much

does this make sense if you dont have the phone to test it on??

im not an expert, but all custom roms have issues? like different stuff not working, camera, lte, blutooth etc..
hard to believe if you take like lineage or something and porting it on a specific phone, everything will work ??
thank for trying to help, but i dont really have time for testing. if youre saying everything will work out of the box, i will gladly take it
