Need help with choosing the right rom - Huawei P9 Lite Questions & Answers

Hello guys.
2 weeks ago my oneplus one got stolen and after that i decided to get a new contract with the p9 lite for free.
In this 2 weeks my phone crashed so many times, spotify crashes non stop, everything feels so slow. In my opo i used most of the time cm with viper4android cuz music is for me one of the most important things on my phone and the other stuff was great too for me. At least i have to say that actually all oft that sucks on my p9. I would give that phone a try with a custom Rom or maybe stock? What would u recommend to me? I cant believe that this is normal with that hardware.
Best regards Woozyclown

That is NOT normal behaviour, my phone never gave me a single problem. Unfortunately, the custom ROM scene is still in an EXTREMELY early stage, I tried them all and would NOT recommend any custom firmware for daily usage as people are still working on those and maybe in some months, but not now. If your bootloader is unlocked, I would recommend flashing your firmware ex novo (possibly a debranded one specific for your device), installing a custom recovery and root your device. From there, you can install all the mods you want (just be careful and do backups before you install any). I am using A.R.I.S.E. sound mods, they work very, very well. If you need any help, just ask!

Sorry, but in my opinion custom ROM for our P9 lite are already usable as daily driver.
I used CyanogenMod 13, Resurrection Remix (6.0.1) and now LineageOS 14.1.
So far, I can say that CyanogenMod 13 is pretty stable, it does not have any bug and I used it as daily driver. Resurrection Remix only has a problem video video recording, but everything else works. LineageOS 14.1 is already stable, the only "big" issue that is has are USB tethering, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth hostpot but I guess they will be fixed soon and SELinux.
If you follow carefully the instructions to install a ROM, I don't see any problems.
I am personally on LineageOS and I managed to install Dolby Atmos, it works very good

Thanks for ur answers. I will take a look on cm and lineageOS. What sound options would give me Dolby atmos? Is it like viper4android? I dont need 5.1 Simulation or something like that, just need it for a eq and to enhance the loudness.

Dolby Atmos boost up sound, I have excellent bass sounds and also volume increase without losing quality. Also it's customizable and you can modify the options, although default settings are already great.

Same here i havent flashed any rom and im still on marshmallow phone runs perfectly fine

[Q] What TW rom has the best Viper4AndroidFX support?

Hello,
I am currently using goldeneye 6.3 with kt kernel TMO variant, on an SGH-i337m.
I tried installing V4A every way possible, and only got it working on 2 occasions (out of hundreds of tries!) for at most 3 songs. (Switching to and from safe mode and compatibility mode, rebooting every few steps; moving the apk into system, installing it there with root; doing these steps with cache/dc wipes; redoing these steps, etc............!!!)
Although few in number, those songs that played with the V4A eq sounded so good that this utility is now a must-have for me.
Can anyone recommend a ROM they know plays nice with V4A, and also is touchwiz based? (I can't help but feel like I don't want to give up any of those samsung features!)
Thanks!

None, i cannot get it working on any TW Rom, i think it may work on a CM rom
Works perfect on GE 6.1 / KT for me. I assume you selected the right driver, followed the V4A instructions post exactly, etc? I use PowerAmp for music and copied the EQ settings from a post I saw on the GE thread. I know it works because turning the V4A Effects On and Off I hear a huge difference. Without V4A, music sounds more muffled. Having it enabled, bass is deep, clarity is crisp, etc. And I go from The Beatles to Wu Tang to Swedish House Mafia to comedy albums...all sound great.

Upgrading From 6.0.1 ROM to 7.x via TWRP-Best Nougat ROM for the Axon 7?

I haven't been following the Android scene lately, and have been thinking about upgrading to Nougat. I'm running an unlocked bootloaded, TWRP, and a "debloatded + root" ROM based off stock (can't remember which one). When I say "best ROM", to me that's the least problematic ROM. I'd like to have a ROM where the power management doesn't go crazy and force me to reboot in order to not have it auto-kill NPR One every day. I'm aware of the CyanogenMod / LineageOS shakeup, but I'm not clear on if there's a build for the Axon 7, and the state of things. It seems like about enough time has passed to where there would be a few Nougat ROMs out there where all the basic functionality is working (GPS, BlueTooth, etc), but I'm not sure what the good options are.
People running Nougat, do you have any suggestions for ROMs you're using / loving? In the past I've been quite happy with CM-based ROMs, but I'm not adverse to stock or stock-based setups provided they are less buggy than the stock Marshmallow ROM. I prefer to have a rooted device so I can use an adblocking solution if possible.

Well, if you have an A2017U or G, it's best to stick with Marshmallow. B15 (Nougat for the A2017U) is buggy and slow. A2017G doesn't have an official Nougat version for now, so in order to have Nougat you have to flash B15.
If you have chinese model, there's 7.1.1 which works better but some users are experiencing problems with the Google Play Store.
I don't recommend AOSP roms at all, they have many issues like:
Camera (currently it crashes when recording videos and the quality is subpar)
Bluetooth (many incompatibilities with some devices)
Sound (no dolby atmos and only one channel is working so speakers are mono)
Fingerprint sensor is very buggy on some devices
Animations are not as smooth
Sometimes the device will unlock to a black screen or an unresponsive desktop
Can't remember more, but there's more
There's only a few... Check them out.

Stick with MM, it's great. It's fluid, the camera is good enough, the sound is great and the battery life is very good.
7.1.1 is on the way for us A2017U users.

Just got this phone, I have a few questions!

Hello everyone!
I just switched to an Axon 7 after previously using a HTC One M9. I have a few questions to people here that have more experience with this phone model.
- How is sound quality in LOS/CM based ROMs? Is the dolby DAC being used properly in custom ROMs ?
The reason I bought this phone is the headset sound quality, so far I am not dissapointed at all with the stock ROM quality
-Is there a maintained stock ROM?
I am interested in a clean stock ROM that's maybe debloated and tweaked.
-What about root and android O
I noticed the toolkit has an option to "revert to stock". I want to know what are the correct steps to take when the official MiFlavor android O update is live.
I assume I should revert to stock recovery and boot partition (since now my boot is r/w from rooting). is there anything else I should know ?
Thanks a lot in advance for your time reading this !

HI, good to know you unlocked and rooted your phone quickly.
The reason i did not take the LOS boat was because of the sound issues. In short : never left stock rom because of Dolby.
For some debloated stock ROMS i can mentioned kenet's ( MiFavor 5 though ) and mine (SLIM version) based on latest B06-stockrom (MiFavor 4, debloated, SuperSu...) : https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/rom-slim-version-t3669355
:good:In a couple if days i'm planning to upload my latest AROMA Rom based om B06-SLIMĀ² which can be debloated to zero, and a bunch of stuff you can choose from, but all based on STOCK. So feel free to look into it :cyclops:
Also take a look in Download Center. All the stock roms (for rooted users) are there under Bootstack+Stocksystem. Latest is the B06 version.
I'm trying to maintain all that stuf so all can choose from it
Good Luck !
Thanks so much for your answer!
I assumed the sound quality would be worse on LOS, it was the same situation with HTC and Sense ROMs, you were stuck with Sense if you wanted decent sound quality.
I am very interested in the Aroma ROM, I'll keep an eye out of that, thanks a lot for creating it.
At the moment I am a bit shy to start flashing just 3 days after getting the phone; however I think an Aroma installed ROM is a solid start
Cheers!
I want to be able to take an OTA or SD update if we get official Oreo so stayed stock but the temptation to root and debloat then unroot again is always there.

I read an article saying Oreo will come officially in Q1 2018. That could very well be April 2018; that's why I gave in to rooting.

Maybe.
It gives me a lot of time to work out whether I can go long term on stock ROM.
I don't want hassles with security compatability to use Google Pay and a couple of other apps that check for root.
One reason I won't install ViPER4Android on this phone. As is, it's stock and encrypted. Just as well it has 4Gb RAM because I think it really needs it.
I just went from latest Stock to LOS and honestly I don't hear much difference between them in my music I would say its at least 90% of the quality.
There is a slight distortion on max volume from the speakers. I will see how I like it maybe go back to stock I also bought this phone after an HTC tho mine was the M8 I don't think I will get a non stereo phone again lol.
The front firing speakers are the thing. I have an Oppo Find 7 at home, it has stereo rear speakers in portrait orientation. Good for music but who uses it for that on internal speakers?
The front landscape speakers are perfect for video and handy for VR too. So much more sensible. The Axon 7 is so affordable for so much function now. Quite the bargain!
I have also recently gotten this phone and I love it, compared to my previous phone. Xperia M4 Aqua.
I have tried a lot of custom roms and I found Dark Rom to be the best one overall, great stability, battery life(5-6h SOT compared to 3-5h in stock). However I couldn't keep using the custom rom(s) since a lot of apps and games that I want to run. Do not work under Xposed or Magisk Hide, even if I don't use them. They detect it's Android N and that breaks most of it. So I am using stock rom, there is no problem and I am okay with that until later.
The biggest downside with the stock rom is that the power saving feature is very clunky. It's not optimized for light gaming, it sets the phone on max and drains it very quickly.

Rooting and choosing the best/stable combination

Hello everyone, i am new to the scene of the Mi A1, i bought the phone about 1 month ago and have been observing the forums, but i would like to ask some questions the community as i have not yet managed to find clear answers to the forums if someone can help me
1. If i root the phone is there a way to revert back to complete stock and get OTA's again?
2. In custom roms, can i get the stock camera working 100%?
3. Is there any custom rom that you recommend in terms of stability and battery life?
4. Are there any drawbacks to the custom rom scene?
5. Do you recommend the stock rom with a custom kernel or a custom rom altogether?
Thank you in advance for your answers, i hope that this thread might be useful to gather some questions altogether for anyone that might have wondered the same stuff as me
Hello,
1. There is a way to update OTA with magisk, but you will need you use magisk just as systemless, without touching system stuff. Alternative you can have root and just unroot everytime you want to update the ROM or you can manually flash the update... You can try this guide... https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/root-mi-a1-oreo-8-0-disabling-ota-magisk-t3728654
2. Stock camera works in custom ROMs, someone did a port somewhere in this forums... https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/themes/oreo-mia1-stock-rom-camera-app-custom-t3758543
3 and 4. Most of the custom ROMs are based on the same sources, LineageOS was one of the first "stable" ROMs so most of the ROMs are based on it, inheriting all of its bugs (haven't found a critical bug). I've tested a few ROMs and the mosts I liked in terms of battery life and stability are... LineageOS and Pixel Experience, you will need to test them out for yourself.
5. If you want to experience a more "stable" feeling stick to Xiaomi development, the latest stable version is 8.0 (with rumors of 8.1 coming soon). If you want latest Android updates and features go for a 8.1 custom ROM.
In my experience you will need to try all this things on your own, until you find a place where you feel comfortable with your phone. Just read guides on how to recover your phone from a bootloop and you are good to go!
I will answer only question number 4 because the guy above me said everything, by the way I prefer RR.
The drawbacks I found on custom roms are 2 for me...
1) Poor signal reception compared to stock
2) Sound quality is much better in stock compared to custom... (my opinion)
I am itching to root the device but to be honest the only thing i want is android 8.1 and a better battery, other than that i am pretty much satisfied with what i have. (and this is coming from someone that changed rom every other week on previous phones) Thank you for your replies, they were informative and greatly appreciated! I just hope Xiaomi updates the phone soon because it feels kinda outdated for an android one device

Is Mirror link working in any custom ROM?

Hi, anyone knows if there is any rom with Mirror link working?
Mirror link is not screen Mirror to the TV. It is the connection to the car MP5 with the USB and you can manage your phone with the car touch screen.
If It doesn't work now but anyone knows if nearly It will be implemented in any rom please say me in which one.
Thanks and regards.
I'm looking into this as well, I've been wanting to install a custom rom such as @Ivan_Meler LOS Rom, but it has pushed my phone to a "Phone is not compatible" reading on the headunit.
Little back story:
I have a Samsung Gal. S7 and a Honda Civic 2015 and I've been able to do Mirrorlink when it was working on a completely stock rom. Only problem was I was trying to mirrorlink the full phone screen and not have to use the Samsung Car mode, Rockscout, etc. I've tried every trick in the book even one which required the phone to be rooted. (AAUnlock and AAMirror) I used SuperSU, whick I should now look into trying Magisk, and see if that makes any difference.
What I've noticed is that once the phone is rooted, even on a stock rom, the Head Unit in my car switches to "Phone is not compatible". Again, I rooted it with SuperSU. I've been able to locate a S7 Stock Rom which I'll go back to and see if I can get that working again. Once that's established, I'll try with Magisk, and see if there's any difference.
So far with every rom I've tried including LOS (most Roms are based from LOS), the phone hasnt worked in mirrorlink. I'm hoping that @Ivan_Meler makes an update that allows it, as it seems his is the only ROM that gets updated on a frequent basis. I'm hoping that this (along with other issues) gets resolved on the Rom and this can become my daily driver.
Hello
Did you manage to make work your S7 mirrorlink with a rooted rom ?
Thanks

If you want to use these old roms, make sure you change the thermals. I highly recommend Jabashque 6, the links are on my thermals thread.
As good as that version of Omni is, Darkobas himself said that longterm use will kill dramatically hurt longterm battery life.
You could use the compatible Blackscreen with the Jabashque thermals and your experience will be perfect.
BY the way, Oreo and Pie Roms are awesome. If you try Pie tryout Lineage 16 its awesome!
Thanks
i want at least oreo, i tried Omni but Mirrorscreen does not work
