Probable brickage of TN7 - Nvidia Tegra Note 7

Hi folks,
So, after little usage due to instability caused by the Lollipop upgrade I hadn't used the TN7 in a while. Yesterday I thought I'd have a go at reconditioning it.
Background: The bootloader has been unlocked, recovery was TWRP, I'd flashed and reflashed stock ROMs of KitKat and Lollipop several times previously. The main problem in Lollipop was that whilst the SD card files were showing up fine in FS Explorer, I couldn't see any of my files or folders when looking at local storage. Also, Google Play Services refused to update (or install using an APK).
Yesterday I grabbed the factory ROM from the nVidia site to do a full factory install and reset. I followed the instructions, flashing the recovery, boot, system, userdata, staging blob and dtb in that order. I then rebooted and...nothing. No power (or so it appears), no boot screen, no ability to get back into the bootloader, nada, zilch. When I read back through the flash commands I noticed that the final part of flashing the system image failed, which could well be the cause - I should have paid more attention.
I've searched all over and tried multiple options to get the TN7 to boot or show some signs of life. I don't even get an LED showing when plugged into a wall socket to charge.
The device doesn't show in fastboot or adb on the Mac. I did however get a small sign of life from Windows. If I hold down the power button for around 10 secs and let go, I can hear the Windows chime of a device connecting, immediately followed by a disconnect sound, the Device Manager updates but shows nothing new.
So my question is: have I completely screwed the pooch, or is there something that can be done to resurrect it?
Cheers for reading,
Gray

Hi,
It can be fixed via apx mode.
Download drivers and switch to apx mode.
Follow instructions http://mobileviandroid.blogspot.in/2015/07/nvidia-tegra-note-7-apx-images.html?m=1
Remember to change your device serial number as mentioned in instructions.
I also faced the same problem as you are facing now. It fixed. If you need any help further just post. God bless. Hope it helps

[Q] CM installer bricked my nexus

As the title says, I wanted to try CM installer, and I was on everything stock, not rooted. I downloaded PC, and android programs, followed the instructions, however at one point CM installer on my PC said it cannot communicate with my phone, and it was when it was trying to flash recovery. It said I should try different cable, or USB port, but no luck with either, and now it says my phone is not supported.
I tried to enter recovery, but I only get CM guy and it's stuck, even when I turn off the phone, it turns itself on automatically, and to fully turn it off I need to enter fastboot mode, and then turn off. I tried flashing full stock image (I know how to do that, and I have previous experience on this phone), but my fastboot crashes (Fastboot.exe Has stoped Working), tried to download fastboot again, but nothing helped. I also tried to flash recovery only, and I get the same thing... Also tried to do that with custom recovery, but nothing....
Is there something I can do, or do I need a new phone?
Also, I had like 70% battery when I started, so I am afraid to keep trying, cause if I go out of juice, it's game over, right?
Looks more like issues with your pc communicating with your device, which might have causes other side effects due to that. But I have not tried CM Installer yet.
You should see about getting fastboot working correctly first and getting the right adb/fastboot driver (such as latest Universal Naked Driver, link in my sig). You should also use the latest adb/fastboot .exe from Google, download their latest ADT package. If it still crash, use it on a different machine, if you're on Windows 8 try Windows 7 or Ubuntu.
Also make sure the factory image isn't corrupt, I always have issues downloading it from Google.

If the battery goes to 0%, just charge it, do you think everyone throw away their N4 when the battery goes to 0? There is the red light problem, but its an easy fix.
Thanks for answering, I fixed it with a strange method (to me). On CM forum j_cor told me this:
"Your device appears to be stuck in sideload. So the good news is no, you are not bricked. Here is what I would try to do:
1. Boot the device - wait for the "stuck" CM guy to display
2. Plug phone to PC and open a command prompt to the directory to C:\Users\enter_your_name\cminstaller\bundle\win32
3. from the prompt "C:\Users\enter_your_name\cminstaller\bundle\win32>" type "adb.exe sideload ClockwordMod.cer" (no quotes) and hit enter
4. This will try and sideload this .cer file and will fail - but it should kick you out to the main recovery screen. Select the Reboot option from Recovery
5. Device should boot back up. It will most likely still be the stock ROM. My guess would be that something disrupted the sideload process when installing the system.zip with CM."
However, this did not fix my problem, but it got my phone to communicate with fastboot. So I was able to flash custom recovery, and do a factory reset, which brought me to the stock ROM, I flashed CM the old-fashioned way then.....
And my PHONE IS UP AND WORKING AGAIN!!!
The main problem in communication was that phone blocked every time I booted into fastboot, and plugged USB cable in.... It immediately became unresponsive to any commands, after I did this, phone wasn't getting stuck in fastboot, so that solved my issue.

Trying to recover photos on soft-bricked phone

Hi all,
This is my first post here, I'll try to include everything but please let me know if I am missing any info. I'm using Windows 10, my phone is using Stock ROM 6.0.1, carrier unlocked from Telus to Rogers but bootloader shows device is Locked.
TLDR: I'm trying to recover the photos from my soft-bricked phone before doing a factory reset. I've tried to manually flash the firmware with fastboot by following the steps in service.xml, but the commands all appear to return OKAY without errors but there's no change in the phone's behaviour.
More Info: I've spent the last 2 days reading up on here and elsewhere online to learn as much as I can. I am honestly not sure what caused it the soft-brick. I was using my phone normally yesterday morning when it froze while browsing Facebook, so I tried to power it down, but I got caught in a bootloop and it wouldn't go past the logo screen. It's part of my morning routine to run updates, and I often (though not yesterday) transfer files to/from the phone through a USB cable, so could it be an internal memory problem? Other possibilities, while I was careful ultimately I did download an apk for Pokemon Go before it was released in my country, and I did also download a battery saving app, so there's risks from both of those but the timing seems wrong...
I can get into bootloader and recovery mode, but not factory mode. Wiping the cache partition did not help. The only way to power the phone down is from bootloader, otherwise the phone goes straight to the logo screen.
I've installed ADB/Fastboot using the 15 Second ADB Installer here, and believe I have all of the correct drivers from the WinDroid install. However I did not enable USB Debugging before this happened, so the only way I can get ADB to see the devices is to go to "Apply update from ADB" in recovery mode, but running "adb devices" brings the phone up as sideload. If I'm in bootloader, "fastboot devices" sees it, "adb devices" comes back empty.
I used the file XT1563_LUX_RETCA-ROGERS_6.0.1_MPD24.107-52_cid14_subsidy-RGRCA_CFC.xml.zip from the File Factory folder, and it looks right according to the software version in the .xml files, but I'm still new to this and I'm not sure if my best guess is educated enough.
In general I'm not too squeamish about voiding the warranty and don't care about losing my apps, it's the photos that I really do not want to lose (shame on me for not backing those up!). I'm wondering if there's a way to get my photos back before unlocking or doing a factory reset, but if there's a reliable recovery software I can use after the fact I may have to bite the bullet.
TIA for any help.
An update. I chose to wipe user data (NOT including personalized content), the phone rebooted but is looking different from before. Which in and of itself is alright, but makes me wonder if I flashed the correct firmware...?
During the setup process, I was given the option to restore data from 3 days ago, which was when the soft-brick occurred. I chose to recover most of my apps, however I can't see any photos. I tried Recuva but it could not see anything, I'll be trying trying the Wondershare Dr. Fone Android Recovery program and hope it finds the photos.

I know it's the wrong forum, but....please take a look

I really need the help of one or more of this forums intelligent minds. As I'm sure you'll see, I've posted this in the QA forum, but have had no hits so far....thus the reason for posting here.
So, about 6mos ago, my Nexus 10 stopped working and I couldn't get it back working...eventually moved onto a new tablet, which now I hate....
Anyway, I figured I'd head back to my N10 because I loved it. However, one of the reasons I left it was because it was stuck in bootloop and I was pretty sure it was bricked.
The bad news, I have followed MANY, if not ALL, of the suggestions on getting it back, I just cannot get it to boot. The good news, fastboot connects with the tablet. So, some specifics:
The tablet WILL boot into fastboot and I can send commands and the tablet is unlocked (also, I believe someone said they had issues because they had an older version of ADB and Fastboot. I'm pretty sure I downloaded the 'most current' version 1.4.3). So, with that, I was able to do the fastboot erase functions, such as cache, userdata, system, etc... and then also load the bootloader (mantafm01) and also send the stock .zip file (image-mantaray-....) and the tablet appears to load everything fine. Thumbs up, right? However, when it reboots it stops at the 'erasing' android bot and will not pass that. I left the tablet in that state for a few minutes all the way up to 3 days...no success.
I also tried the above using Wugfresh only to have the same thing occur. So, basically, I am stuck at 'erasing' and I don't know what to do. I feel confident that the tablet has the ability to be brought back to life, I just cannot figure out how/why all of the attempts lead to the same issue.
What I can also tell you is that while fastboot 'sees' the tablet, the tablet does not appear as a device in "My Computer" like it normally did when connecting via USB. I am using the original USB cable and have tried on multiple computers, all to no avail. I've downloaded/installed the drivers, as instructed on many links. Also, while I can get to the 'Recovery Mode' by pressing Power, Volume Up, Volume Down, if I choose "Recovery Mode" on the tablet, it reboots and goes to the 'erasing' screen. I have tried flashing TWRP on the tablet using fastboot as well. And, sometimes, not all the time, the TWRP blue/black screen appears but it will not progress past that screen (i.e., it doesn't go into recovery).
So, if you can, please help. I believe I have followed all of the instructions, but I have to be missing something or not following something correctly. I'm stoked that it looks like it's only soft-bricked, I just can't get it un-bricked.
Thanks in advance! I'm at my wits' end
Try fastbooting a recovery like TWRP thati s updated then flash a rom.
disclaimer: I might be no help at all!
You have fastboot -- go learn all the fastboot commands... you need to know the tools and figure a solution!
erase... hmm? why? What about factory reset? I see you are not using LOS 13 but stock image... need root? Basically, I would factory reset/wipe sdcard, then install recovery (TWRP) [okay, so first you would need to use fastboot to install custom recovery)...THEN, push (fastboot an image.zip (LOS or stock) to sdcards, install, and reboot!
Good to have WUG... another tool in the chest (I have never seen it or used it)
Ok, so one clue is that if your computer cannot see it, that says to me RED FLAG... ADB drivers? but you say fastboot works, hmm... I think this is the problem... Koush's universal ADB drivers? official Google drivers? Could these help!
Erasing screen? Hmm...
I would say, for the hell of it, try flashing different ROMs, Recoveries, and Drivers.... you are basically trying to...
Factory Reset/wipe SDcard [system, cache, ... everything], Flash custom recovery (optional), then, some how (fastboot or mycomputer) get an image on to /sdcard, then, install, then, reboot!
Good luck!

Why not try this
I have not had this problem with my Nexus 10 but I did once with my Nexus 7 and it may help you.
Instead of trying to flash TWRP and run it (which is not working for you) why not boot into a temporary copy of TWRP and then work from that? To flash TWRP normally (persuming you had renamed the img file to TWRP which makes it easier) you would enter 'fastboot flash recovery twrp.img'. Instead of doing that type 'fastboot boot twrp.img'. This boots into TRWP and from there you will be able run all the options and from there flash TWRP and other images as normal.
If you are having problems with drivers have you used 'USBDeview' ? Run this as Administrator and delete all references to any phone or tablet USB driver and particularly look for devices with Vendor ID '18d1' or '04e8'. Just select them, right click on them and select 'Uninstall Selected Devices'. When they are all cleared reboot your computer and plug your tablet in and it should install the correct driver.
Another option I used successfully with a Nexus 7 in a boot loop was to connect it while running Linux. I don't have a Linux on a computer so I installed one in 'Oracle VM VirtualBox' I don't know Linux but after Googling for help I installed Peppermint Linux and then ADB for Linux. I downloaded the 'TWP' image into a folder in Linux and any other images I wanted. Connect your tablet to the USB port and then on the top menu in VirtualBox select 'Devices' then 'USB' and tick the option which shows your tablet. I then went into what we call a command prompt in Windows but which they call 'Terminal'. Then type 'ADB devices' and if you see it on the list use ADB instead of fastboot. As I mentioned my Nexus 7 was in a boot loop so I typed 'ADB wait-for-device' and as soon as it looped to a point where ADB could see it then the looping stopped and I could flash the images and recover the tablet.
All the best. I hope you are successful.
As long as you can get into bootloader mode, your good.
NOW
If you can't get into boot loader mode? as far as I know...
You're ****ed.
Unless you want to set up usb boot (might not work on Exynos, idk, this is magic to me) and solder the connectors and flash it like they do in factories. That's next level **** too, and considering an N10 is 100$ on amazon you're better off just grabbing a new one.

Non Hacked/Rooted 6p Shut Off And Will Not Turn On

bought this phone used and I don't think it was rooted but never checked, confirmed. Last night it turned off and will not turn on anymore..
Tried the pwr button for several minutes and no change. Plugged it in with several different cables and no change.
Any other suggestions or options? USB to computer detects something but says it can't install the driver.
Any ideas?

negative, either the phone is totally dead or the screen is dead but NOTHING happens when pwr is pressed
here is what I have tried:
1. Press and hold PWR button for over 3minutes
- Plugged in and unplugged into ac - no change
2. Press and hold volume DOWN + Pwr for over 3minutes
- Plugged in and unplugged into ac - no change
3. Plugged into different a/c power outlets with 2 different chargers - no change
NOT sure what else to try or do?
Funny thing is if ya plug into a computer it does indeed detect "something'
However it says it can't load the USB drivers something about QU_***
Open to any ideas and suggestions.. WHILE I would love to get the phone working whats more high priority for me now is the 20gb's of pics that apparently did NOT back up.

Funny thing is- that "something" is the solution to your problem. Capture the error message completely and search the 6P forums for that. Several threads on the "something" issue.

If you found the right EDL_9008 thread, there is Qualcomm software to download for your PC. If your phone is in the right downloader mode you can use the PC software with a special recovery.img. I don't know anything about it, just read through the threads long ago. It's a mixed bag with some success stories, some not. Keep looking though, I think you are on the right track. The original poster was "Tenfar" if I recall correctly. Good luck.
Try cleaning out the charging port.
Hi there,
I think we are in the same/similar boat. My phone shut off while using it (screen froze, then went black) and seems to have bricked itself. I *am* able to get mine to turn on, but only about once per day after it has been left plugged in for a few hours (although there is no indication it is charging while plugged in - never gets warm, no lights, etc.) I can get into recovery if I am lucky (usually get to the android bot laying on its back, then PWR+VOLUP just causes the phone to shut off instead of actually getting into recovery menu.) I've been able to clear cache/factory wipe from recovery menu with no luck. I never did unlock the bootloader so I am unable to use fastboot to do anything. I tried to flash a few OTA (full and incremental) images using adb when I am able to get into recovery, but they always failed in one way or another.
I've been trying the methods described in the 'tenfar' threads - using the xiaomi flasher and QPST tools. The xiaomi tool always fails for me. I have been able to get the QFIL tool to successfully 'download' about 3 times now, with tenfar's recovery images. However, after the success message, the phone doesn't do anything (I read in other threads it should reboot itself) - and after unplugging, the behavior of the device seems to be the same - just stuck and won't turn on at all.
Right now I think I am stuck in 'EDL' mode where the only evidence that the device isn't completely dead is that it shows up in device manager as 'Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM3)', and the factory imager tools do recognize it.
It *seems* like the only way forward is to somehow get one of these factory tools to flash the right set of files onto the device - I've tried a few now with no luck. I even tried extracting the relevant *.img files out of the google factory image download and replacing tenfar's image files with them. I was able to load those onto the device with QFIL. This morning my attempt at turning on the device has me stuck on the white google logo, which is new behavior for me - usually it shows the logo for ~5-10 seconds then the device powers off. I've left it on for a while stuck on the white google image, but I'm not sure if I'm doing anything useful here.
Here are my reference threads:
tenfar's 'debrick' thread

If anyone has any crazy ideas, I am open to try them. Thank you.
Maybe disable big cores?

How have you got your device on? Mine dont start once a day or so. Its always in EDL mode ( 9008 ).

Sorry bud - I never was able to get any further than when I posted this. I eventually gave up, got a full out of warranty refund through my CC after the manufacturer wouldn't help me at all, and upgraded to a Pixel XL. I still do have the device, I should try to boot it up again . I didn't have any data concerns on my device so I was able to give up... good luck!

[Help] XT1768 wont load into bootloader or recovery

Hey,
So yesterday I decided to finally tinker with my phone. My main issue was that the Wifi kept disconnecting on it's own for no damn reason but no other device would do it. Found out it's a thing with the E4 and the option for disconnecting on a bad connection wasn't there.
At anyrate, I unlocked the bootloader and flashed TWRP. Then things started to go sour. While trying to root the phone, I ended up with no ROM. Tried a couple of different ones. Lineage OS, Resurrection Remix but none could get past the boot animation. Eventually I found the correct (I think) ROM for my phone. I'm in Canada and on Freedom Mobile so I went with the Retail Perry OS from here: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/perry/official/RETAIL/
I tried installing with TWRP but it said invalid ZIP file so I found another way. Using instructions from https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e4/help/rsd-lite-device-connecting-t3671647 I used the rsdlite motorola xml to batch script file thing mentioned. Phone finally worked again! Went about installing the bits and bobs. Was working for a few hours and then I decided to update. I had used an older version of the firmware when the zip file was coming up as invalid in TWRP. The first two or three updates went fine. Downloaded, installed, restarted, fine. Then during one it just... stopped. I think it was restarting last I saw but I didn't even see the "Updating" animation page. The battery was over 60% minimum.
I've tried holding down all the buttons for 4 minutes, I've tried booting into recovery, into bootloader. Nothing. The screen stays black. Not even an animation for charging.
About a half an hour ago I tried plugging it into my computer. Initially there was a response by the PC. A popup came up and said something about Qualcomm <name> being successfully installed or updated. It went so quickly I didn't get a chance to read it. I went looking through My PC trying to find the device and see if I could access the files on it but there was nothing. So I unplugged it. Now I don't even get the Qualcomm thing. Device manager says that it was unable to be identified and I just get a notification saying USB is unrecognized. I've tried uninstalling and updating drivers in Device Manager to no avail. I'm out of ideas. Any thoughts from anyone?
Edit: While having the phone plugged into my PC if I try to access the bootloader mode by holding down the buttons for a longer period of time, my computer responds with noises. Mostly it's just the USB removed noise, but occasionally one sounds off if a new USB device is plugged in.

Hey,
So yesterday I decided to finally tinker with my phone.

Sounds like you hard bricked it. I had the same thing happen with my E4 Plus. Not sure why this is happening with certain updates even without being rooted or trying to install ota's with stock recovery as you should do. I managed to get mine working again with this tutorial here but you need the right files for your specific device
