External SD not being seen by certain apps? Is there STILL an issue with permissions? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Have googled it before...but hasn't ANYBODY had an issue with saving to their external sd card? Like, for instance, Boat Browser, Maxthon, Chrome...etc...ALL want to save to internal and will NOT let me change the directory to the SD card. It gets very frustrating moving the downloads after the fact. Any help or ideas??

You can set it in the opera mini browser, go into settings, downloads, download folder, press the sdcard icon and set the directory from there.
I don't think chrome and many other browsers have it. I assume this is a performance decision because internal memory is typically faster than sdcards unless you're getting a class beyond 10, which are expensive as hell.

You may also look into developer options and force external sdcard use at the bottom.

It's already on. Many apps say it's un-writeable.

Only certain rare apps bring up the sd card folder for me to select to be written to. Annoying. Either they say it doesn't have correct permissions or isn't allowed. I have to use foldersync to save to the cloud, then back to the external sd.

I have had to click the 3 circle overflow button before and click on show external storage option before but that was only on certain screens

Can't see SD Card contents

Why can't I see the SD Card contents with a file manager app? It only shows me the internal memory contents.
Am I missing something here? It shows me that I have a 16gb SD Card in there and when I connect my phone to my macBook Air, it only shows me the SD Card contents and not the internal memory.
Something is weird here.
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Dogan
Where are you looking and which app are you using? I use Root Explorer. The external SD card is in /mnt/external1 on my device.

Yep mine too
I have a 32gb and part of it shows under mnt/sdcard and a major part of it shows under mnt/external1
Use a file manager and see if it shows there...

Got it working. It was just showing the internal memory before but now showing it under mnt/external(or something like that)
Thanks guys
I've noticed at times the external storage seems a bit finicky - randomly things happen like dodolom described. Plus, who decided to put designate the path /mnt/external1 ? Quite a few apps have to be redirected to that and don't find it by default.
There is a file manager on the phone already just go to file and you can see everything.

I have a related question:
Anyone know how to view the internal SD contents when connected to a PC? Given that the M stores photos to the internal storage, I figure it would be nice to pull them off occasionally when connected to a PC. However, when I connect via USB, I see only the SD card.
Thanks.

When it's plugged in, pull the notification bar down and change the usb thing to MTP from Mass Storage (or however it's worded). That should do it.

[Q] Manage Internal Storage

Well I have a quick question. After updating to the new JB build, I noticed that under the settings tab then storage, there is no longer then option to quickly transfer files from internal storage to SD card.
Does anyone know if there is another way to do this? Other than using a file manager, this feature will definitely be missed. I found it very useful to quickly move pictures, music, etc. without having to copy-paste in a file manager.
Or, does anyone know of an app that can mimic this?

Dyelon,
I read through the linked thread but what I was looking for was to move personal data (such as pictures, music, downloaded content from browser) from the phones internal memory to the SD card quickly, not so much as moving app to SD. In ICS under settings > memory there was the option to manage internal storage and move items quickly:
(http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=63946) Look towards the bottom of this page.
Seems like after the update to JB its no longer an option.
But on a related note, thanks for the info on apps to sd!

Enabling moce apps to sd help

Hello xda forums, I want to ask you about moving apps2sd card. By a little research I have found out that moving apps to sd card is a thing. Now I want to do it but I wont seem to be able to get the option "move app to external drive/usb device" or whatever option. I just want to know how to enable it.. A way of not requiring any computers just doing all by my phone would be great..
Also, if you are going to say "oh, why are you moving your apps to sd card" or anything similar like that, please just dont.. say that to google, not me, I don't care, I have lots of big apps and my storage is full...
Thanks...

1) Open Play Store.
2) Search for Folder Mount.
3) Install app.
4) Upgrade to pro.
5) Use it to move large app data to your external SD and create a symlink in the original location.
I realize that you're actually asking about the native apps to sd ”feature,” but I don't think you quite understand what it actually is and is not. It does move apps to your SD, and that is it- only the .apk is moved. The data, which is why those apps and games are so big, remains on your internal. As such, it does not save you any appreciable space. To do that, you're going to have to use a third party app.

Folder mount didn't really help. What I got to do is to move the whole app, the apk of the app, that can be done using system right? I feel like I should be able to enable it somehow.. Any ideas?
(What I need to do is to move the apk that can be reached via Root Browser, theee are many apks with the size between 30-100 mbs, eventually taking up too much space)

Can the camera app save pics to SDcard?

Not sure if the camera app has the option to save to sd card. Or do we have to manually do it ourselves.
if its pure Android, then the camera app will have a storage setting to int/ext sd

I was about to create a thread. Since I have seen this thread similar to what I wanted to post, I am sharing how I am using external SD to save images taken using Google Camera.
It is very simple and easy using the app Foldersync (I am using pro version to have unlimited folder pairing).
Here is the play store link for Lite version LINK
Use of this app is mainly to transfer files to cloud server but does the job to copy / move from internal memory to external SDcard.
You can see sample screenshot attached.
Yes, you can save pictures to the SD card directly from the stock camera app. If you bring out the side menu while in the viewfinder, scroll down and you'll see a little SD card icon. Tap that, and choose SD card instead of internal storage.
No need for a third party app.

The question was how to push images taken from Google camera in to external sdcard without manual copying process from folder to folder. Also, it can be used to move any periodical update on to internal memory to external sdcard (eg. anything downloaded which saves in to internal memory under Download folder).

I didn't see "Google Camera" anywhere in the original question. I just see this:
Subject: Can the camera app save pics to SDcard?
Thread: Not sure if the camera app has the option to save to sd card. Or do we have to manually do it ourselves.
In this case, my directions are what the OP needs to do in order to save photos directly to the SD card.

It's also resetting apps saved to the card. It changes from Swiftkey backnto stock keyboard and I'll have to put passwords back in things like Facebook. Bad card maybe?
If you are using adaptive storage for your SD card, which it sounds as if you are, then you will not get the option on the camera app. Adaptive storage makes the SD card essentially like an extension of your internal storage therefore recognizes only internal storage. There are no other storage options to choose from.

It sounds like you are using adoptive storage on your SD card. I use adoptive storage and don't have any issues with it, the camera does save to the SD card for me and I do not have the option to change that in the camera app since the system shows the card as internal storage. So like aybarrap1 said, you will not see the option in the camera app.
The other issues you are having are strange. I suppose your card could be going bad. Do you have a fast card? Perhaps it is too slow and that is why you are having issues with apps saved to it.
Slow cards could cause apps to be flaky. I personally don't use adoptive storage yet. Waiting on the fast cards (90+ read and write speeds) to hopefully come down in price. Since internal storage is not an issue for me ATM, I'm not really stressing it.
I also using adoptive sd card but pics and videos are being saved in internal memory instead external ,actually I don't understand this new feature I still have 2 different memory internal and external, even I'm running out of memory help please
PS I have a 64gb Samsung card so is not slow is the one that came with my s7 edge I'm guessing is good speed

Oh that was SO the right answer. Thank you!
My Moto X Pure does not show the option to save on SD card either. I have all the other options in the user manual except the SD card. It runs Android 6.0 and uses SanDisk Extreme PLUS microSDXC UHS-1 64 Gb card.

Locking folders on sd card

Does anyone know of a app that will password protect folders that are on the SD card. Or hide the folder altogether.
I've tried a few from the app store that hide certain videos from showing up in the gallery, but the folder is still accessible with Explorer.
Here's the situation
I have certain videos on my sd card in a milkvr folder that I don't want people to see. While hidden from the gallery they are still visible and playable from milkvr.
I'm rooted and encryption is disabled on my device if this makes a difference.
Also anyone know of a nice little music player that works well with viper?

Try using this and lock the file manager and much more one of my favorite apps. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rickclephas.fingersecurity
Not quite what I'd like to do.
Would just like to lock the folder or hide it on sd card
Some apps can hide it but they end up pulling it into the internal memory which isn't gonna work for me
Sent from my SM-G935W8 using Tapatalk
File Hide Expert works for me. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tonado.boli.hermit.hider&hl=en
That's actually what I'm using now. Hides the videos well enough from the gallery, but does nothing to hide folder on sd card
Sent from my SM-G935W8 using Tapatalk
Hide from who? Isn't it all encrypted anyway?
Correction this is exactly what I was looking for.
Had fast mode enabled and it's not supported on this device
