Heres a Working Method to Unlock Wi-Fi Hotspot J700P - Samsung Galaxy J7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Download this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.shortcutmaster.lite
Run it. Click search.. Type Apn in search bar, go to apn setting click open, click on youre apn settings activity, go to the internet apn and click it, go to apn type and type dun in the edit apn section at the end of it and erase nothing just add dun, click save and youre hotspot will be unlocked. Tested on my boost mobile j7 running a internet connection to my galaxy j7 prime.

Greyed out for me, I cannot edit without (presumably) my MSL which Boost won't give me. Going to try with the newest update that just rolled out, will report back if successful.

Thats odd cause on my boost mobile it goes right to the apn and i have the newest update.

Works on my boost mobile j7

Are you rooted?

So I found a working method to get MSL. Must be rooted. In terminal or adb shell:
su
am start com.sec.hiddenmenu/.Program_Edit
Bottom entry is your MSL!

Boost Mobile comes with Hotspot on all their plans. Unless you found a way to bypass their 8GB of Free hotspot on the Unlimited Plan for 50$...

Unless you found one for Virgin... this is rather ineffective.

This will work for Virgin. I have different method for adding "dun" to apns, but Aftet adding to apn I have had hotspot working for months.

Wifi Tether Router.apk on playstore will allow you to by pass the 8gb limit, also modifying services.jar changing
TETHER_DUN_REQUIRED = 0X1 to 0x0

will also work
Edit. Also using sqlite editor to edit database files and add 'Dun' string may work

What are your setting for Wifi Tether Router by Fabio for the J7? Im using the J7 perx on Boost Mobile and it keeps showing it as hotspot usage. Otherwise I cant get the ssid to show up on my devices.

Use build 215. 323 doesn't keep the ppp um and am settings. You will have to do mip with 323. And then finish with 215. Also make sure you are using a evdo prl.

I dont stay ontop of metro prls...should check out Howards Forum for that. Corolado (sp) isn't really up to date on prls anymore.
An evdo is a 3g mobile data prl.
Hey Jenisiz I tried the folowings, that you told me, but I still do not have 1x showing either 3g now I have prl 2004 Network Unknown Mobile network type 1xRTT Mobile network state: Connecting
Try googling "metropcs 2004 prl" theres a site that has all the latest prls for all carriers then you flash it with cdma workshop...but if you say you aready have voice and txt working on your phone then your prl should already be flashed...just gotta follow the above steps for internet and mms.

If the 3g icon isn't showing then you either have the wrong prl or flashed wrong.

It shouldnt really matter what baseband you have just make sure the one you flash is compatible with the rom you're using..also you have to be rooted and have autostart.sh and the autostart.apk installed ..I believe theres a simple guide on this forum search for it "flash to metropcs instructions" if you cant find it let me know when im near a pc ill find it for you..also I dont think that metropcs has 3g service only 1x and unless you got a 4g lte flashed phone you can't use their 4g network..not sure if its even possible.

1. flash the radio/kernel/rom you want
2. flash 2004 prl with cdma workshop (for voice/txt)
3. Flash m.ip settings with qspt 2.7 build 355
4. Flash ppp settings with qspt 2.7 build 215 you must use this or it wont stick
5. In order for apps and market to work you also need to configure autostart.sh and u2nl and install autostart.apk from market (you must be rooted)
6. For mms settings i used anycut to do "mms provisioning" with metro servers.
A detailed instructions are below..just make sure you follow steps 3 and 4 above carefully or it wont work..everything else follow my outline..

Lollipop Hotspot, no root or flashing needed

The only think you need ahead of time is your MSL. This isn't too hard to get from Sprint customer service. I got mine via an app called MSL Utility, which it seems now crashes every time I try to use it on Lollipop.
The steps:
Go to Dialer and enter ##DATA# (##3282#)
Press "Edit" then enter your MSL.
Click on APN Settings
For both "APN2 EHRPD internet" and "APN2 LTE internet" change APN Type from "default, mms" to "default, mms, dun"
After you enter the change, hit Menu -> Save before going to the next APN.
And that's it. That easy. It works for both Hotspot and USB tethering. Seems too easy, but that's all I had to do.
UPDATE 5/21/2015
There's been some concerns that this wouldn't work with the OE1 updated that's started rolling out. I can tell you that it works just fine. Feel free to click that update button!
UPDATE 8/03/2015
Confirmed, still works on the OG5 5.1.1 update.
UPDATE 11/06/2015
Tested, still works with OJ6 update.
This didn't work for me. It appears to work, but then it tries to sell me a tethering plan.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
did you try rebooting?
Turns out I was not on lte or ehrpd. It works now.
Confirming this works. Thanks for this.
Works great! Thanks!
Might want to turn off auto-update because sprint is bound to push an update through to patch this simple fix

Working .. lucky i still had my msl cause the spcutility app dont work on lollipop
Wow just called sprint and said had my lte was slow and ask for my msl and they gave it to me, going to try the hotspot fix
---------- Post added at 09:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:06 AM ----------
Worked like a champ
So calling is only way to get msl on lollipop?

THANKS A LOT! one of the main reasons I wanted root!!
Work just perfect, now my question is, does sprint can detect when im using hotspot service this way?
Dont know
They probably know... i have used it since gs3 then note 3 and now note 4 doubt they really care too much about it
There is another ota coming in alril after the s6 drops i have a friend whos a manager for sprint in boston mass
When you do an prl update itll need to be re-inserted.
i called sprint the other day over slow LTE issue. I was on the phone with a tech who eventually had me do ##72786#. after this session i was unable to obtain hotspot through galaxy tools using method 1 or 2. Prior i had no issue.
I didnt have my MSL and had deleted my last NK2 backup so had to go through the whole process of reverting to NK2 and back to my backed up OB7.
My OB7 backup was prior to the sprint session and so hotspot is working fine. Any ideas of what sprint pushed to my device?

You should caveat that your mod needs Root since this is a post about a way to hack it without root. I haven't rooted my phone yet and frankly the hotspot issue was the only thing I missed that and call record. Probably wait till my warranty is out before I root.

Anyone edit their build.prop for wifi tethering on unlimited?

Still waiting for my 6P that's in transit. I'm on Verizon with unlimited data. Has anyone successfully edited their build.prop to allow native wifi tethering?

In another thread someone posted good old FoxFi works. Said he was stock, no build prop edit, and installed FoxFi from Play Store. I don't have phone yet to confirm.
Anybody else got it workin'?
Just tried foxfi/pdanet still doesn't work. =(
I'm stock with no build prop edit on tmo. FoxFi works for me.
Edit: I do not have the unlimited plan

Straight out of the box wifi tethering with VZW unlimited works? Sweet.
1. Add the following in the type category of APN: dun
2. Add the following to the end of build.prop: net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
3. In adb shell, run the following: settings put global tether_dun_required 0
4. Reboot
The third step replaces the old SQLite edit.

you should preface this by saying you need root. Many users are on this developers forum now who choose not to unlock developers option (i still dont see why they are on a developers forum if they choose not to mod. there are dozens of other android forums for non-modders)

I apologize, I should have explained better. A user needs root to temp boot into twrp and do any changes to system files.
Users are reporting tethering works on Verizon out of the box. while others on Verizon with UDPs say no.
It doesn't work for me at all on T-Mobile because I have a grandfathered UDP with no tethering allotment. I believe it doesn't work for aT&T users with zero allotment in their plans.
Has anyone tried Portable WiFi Hotspot?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kr.core.technology.wifi.hotspot
That's what I use on my Oneplus One with AT&T grandfathered unlimited.
I'm hoping it will work with the 6P coming soon.
To those with T-Mobile saying it works, that's because all their new plans include some amount of tethering.

Sprint hotspot

So i have a note 4. Stock (no root) and i used the msl code to have the ability of use the hotspot option since sorint likes to charge. Everything was fine until my phone was having a powering issue and they had to replace it. I asked them not to upgrade it to marshmellow but of course they did. Now when i got the new phone i went to unlock the hotspot with the msl code and the apn settings were greyed out and blocked wasnt allow to edit it. I was wondering if anyoe knew a work around without rooting to use the hotspot or if there was a way to root without having a pc? Any advice and options would be helpful.

there are different Odin packages for a same device with different product codes. I think the N910PVP one is XAS, key being the first 3 letters after the 910. the first P is actually part of the N910 -- indicating N910P which is the model number for the Sprint note 4
the VP I think is the relevant part for XAS product code... again, I could be wrong, but this is what I believe as of the moment. XAS product code firmwares don't always have the VP for other devices... hence not a good indicator.
if you can find a way to root without tripping knox, you could install GalaxyTools and change the product code with that app without having to flash anything, then unroot and still have knox 0x0 but changing product code involves wiping all user data (might include internalsd)
there might also be a way to change it from the hidden dialer menu's through the service menu but that is well beyond me and I don't think you'll find much if any documentation on it.
if you go in About Phone, you can see in Baseband and Build Number if your version contains the PVP or not
