Nexus 6p Mobile hotspot not working properly (T-mobile) - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have searched extensively and found no working solution to this issue. Return would be a last and unwanted resort. Here's the deal. Mobile Hotspot performs strangely no matter what android version I run. In marshmallow it would turn off during use. In nougat it would just crash and need to be restarted. It most reliably occurs when playing lan minecraft over 2 comps on the hotspot but will still have the issue randomly even when only 1 device is connected. Many calls to various companies have all resulted in "send it back in". This is infuriating as this feels like a software issue not a hardware issue, I just can't see how it can be any other way. I have tried everything I could think of and had no luck, here's the list of what i've tried so far:
Restart phone
Factory reset
update to latest firmware
downgrade back to original marshmallow firmware
there is no access to advanced settings for hotspot so timeout is non-existant
reset network settings
edit: also tried ElementX kernel still have the same problem
tried flash-all to stock Marshmallow firmware without restoring apps or settings
RMA TWICE
etc. (any others I've forgotten that I did I will edit and add if ppl suggest it)
Nothing works, before I downgraded back to MM I did capture a bug report when the crash happened on latest nougat. I have no idea if I caught relevant info but will include the zip here anyway. Any help is massively appreciated.

Flash the correct factory images using google flash-all method (backup data first or remove -w in the script!). Upon startup do NOT restore settings apps etc.. and test.
If it doesn't work post a bug report on google website.

if it wasn't clear in my post I was at factory default and the problem occurred and have restored and erased a few times. If the method you're describing is different form having out of the box stock please elaborate, I only flashed a kernel recently as a further last resort.
By not restoring settings are you referring to not allowing google backups to restore? and finally if you can provide a link to where exactly I am to post this bug report I would appreciate it, I have posted in what I thought was official channels with a bug report and was told to call in, which is stupid, considering if I leave a bug report why not read it and get back to me?
Anyways thanks for reply and any further info you give

Finally got back from vacation and had time to try your request. used flash-all method and did not restore any apps or settings and hotspot still did not work. any other info or at least a link to where I should post a bug report to google as I have used the report function through the device and have posted on nexus help forums and not received answers. I really don't want to have to do an rma as I hate the thought of receiving a refurb phone when I wanted a brand new one and they sent me a broken one

well all is officially lost as I am in the process of doing an RMA. Multiple phone calls between carrier and manufacturer see each company blaming the other with no solution in sight. Fingers crossed hard enough to bleed that somehow a new phone or any "repairs" done to mine will fix the issue. Come back in a few weeks for an update. :crying:

I would confirm with T-Mobile that your line is provisioned with Tethering. When testing an AT&T SIM from a friends UDP (no tethering) account, this is what would happen. My T-Mobile and Verizon accounts both allow it, so it just works.

I have tethering on my account and have had it for 2 years. worked flawlessly on other devices before switching to this one. It also doesn't explain why it could work for hours at a time before failing. Or why it would consistently fail within minutes when playing LAN minecraft.

Well Huaweii has been an absolute joke, after 3 weeks of terrible communication and no transparency I finally received my phone in the mail (no email notification on if it is a replacement device or not) and the issue still persists. I'm at a loss for what to do.

Wi-Fi Calling

Wi-Fi Calling is not working at all on my stock s7. Is anyone else experiencing this? Getting enablement error. Spoke with sprint tech support who is stumped and now escalating up to higher level team.
Rest of phone (including wifi and hotspot/tethering) working as it should.
Saw one post about disabling Bluetooth and BT share. tried that with no improvement.
-Josh
What kind of testing would help?
I have never used this before, so keep it simple, lol
I have the same problem. . They told me, after escalating, that it was am account code error. . I am trying now to enable. . Update it works now after whatever account coding they updated

That sounds promising. They have called me three times to keep escalating. Any chance you would PM me your #. I can ask them to look at your acct to figure out how to fix mine.
Also if you have air rave try turning that off

I didn't have any problem with the Airrave and my S5 using Wi-Fi calling.
I think I had to do that sometimes because the phone was trying to use both or maybe just to eliminate that possibility
Anyone have a solution for broken Wifi calling. I tried everything I could find including calling Sprint. Running the latest Sprint S7 update, was working before the phone updated. Really not looking forward to do a hard reset.
It's a problem with the data code on your account. Will need tech suport to fix. They are having issues with s7 not carrying code over correctly.
Thanks for the feedback, do you mean my Data plan is not correctly assigned to my phone. Ill probably have to hold the Sprint tech supports hand to get it going.
No its the actual billing codes for your account and how wifi is coded on it.
No luck, was on the phone with Sprint for almost an hour. They made a Ticket, said said I needed to take my phone to a repair center
I have to tell you after the security update it reset my pattern lock and i ended up with factory reset because the Samsung website unlock feature isn't set up for the s7. Had to use Google website and my Google account to restet. Good luck

I know what you mean. Luckily I had fingerprint unlock working cause my pin unlock broke after the update. Hoping for a work around cause I got my phone setup just right. Is there a backup I can do that will restore everything exactly the way I have it now (except Wifi calling of course)? I had titanium backup years ago but it was a pain back then.
WiFi Calling
I have the same issue with my S7 with the enablement error. I have been on the phone with Sprint for over 1 hr with no help - they state it is a Samsung software issue. I went back to Best Buy where I got the phone and exchanged it but still the same problem. I took it to the Samsung reps who were there and they also were stumped. I reached out to "advanced tech Sprint support" who stated its a Samsung issue and will not be fixed until they release a patch. I reached out to Samsung and they stated they were not aware of any issues and to send the phone to their repair center - which made no sense. I see online that some have no issues doing wifi calling so it may be luck of the draw. I think that Sprint will blame Samsung who in return will say no issue. I am going to try to exchange the phone again and hope the third time works!
Did you try a hard reset?
Check wifi calling doesn't support messaging at this time..

It only recognized my fingerprint a couple times then after power off it wouldn't. Also found out find my mobile isn't set up by Samsung for s7 yet, if ever. . I use nova launcher which allows you to save your homescreen and widget and folder setup. I use helium to back up apps and data. Restore was only really annoying not horrifically annoying. Don't forget to back up your Samsung account settings and take your sd card before you go the Google reset route. . The most help I got was the Samsung rep at best buy
Sent from my SM-T330NU using XDA-Developers mobile app
Thank you, that's a lot of great information.
I had 4 reps tell me to bring it to store for repair, did hard reset etc.... got up to advanced tech support before guy called me and said "fixed the problem, go ahead and try"and worked fine after that.

Poss firmware issue Note 4 - All Aussie 6.01 firmwares XSA, OPS etc please check

So I previously had the Indian 6.01 ROM on my SM-N910G but with Optus firmware finally coming back reverted back (factory reset before and after)
Everything has been ok except I have just discovered in Settings -> Backup and reset the Backup account is greyed out saying "No account is currently storing backed up data"
In google Drive where you to manage backups it says you need to wait after 24 hours to see any apps there after turning backup on. Well I turned this on Friday night nearly 36 hours ago
Googled this issue and suggestion is to turn off backup and reenable and reboot. Didnt Work. Another is to remove All Google accounts, reboot and re-add which I did. First account I added back in asked me to Backup I selected Yes. Did not work
Others say to delete data for Google Account and Google Transport and it is supposed to prompt you to select a Backup account but the option to Clear Data for both of these apps is greyed out
I deleted data for Google Play Services and Google Play Store and deleted Google Accounts again and this did seem to work asking me to select Backup account but after selecting, still greyed out and no account
Anyone else having issues.. I have seen some people say even when they fix the issue it comes back... It was working with Indian ROM. Last thing I want to do at this stage is factory restore takes me a good half a day to get my phone back to how I want it after that..
Cheers
I'm also having the same problem with my s6 active and Android 6.0.1. Tried factory reset but still didn't help
Thanks for letting me know but geez what have samsung gone and done now and ballsed up all the aussie MM phones or don't tell me this is on purpose due to some sort of legal requirement with apple again where they weren't allowed to let the gallery auto rotate pics due to an alleged design ripoff from ios

anyone can check their phone please and confirm option is greyed out?? another user tells me same problem from them. Have reported to Samsung but they deny its an issue and want me to RMA my phone.. No thanks! I just need more people to confirm they have the issue so can show Samsung its a firmware bug that everyone is having!

Samsung Tab A (SM-T285) Wifi constantly disconnecting-reconnecting

Hello Guys, I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask something like this, so apologies if I'm asking in the wrong place, but I've searched a lot the past days and haven't found a solution yet :/
Less than a week ago, I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab A6 (SM-T285) 7" LTE, and pretty much since day one, the tablet keeps disconnecting and reconnecting on every wi-fi I tried so far (3-4 different networks). I lose my connection for a couple seconds, causing any app running to lag a bit, then the notification that I have been connected to (the same) wi-fi comes up, and it starts working again. I googled a bit and tried using WPS button, Keep Wifi on during sleep, always allow scanning, even turned flight mode on, but the problem remains. Also, googling usually returned solutions that were aimed towards the router, although I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the tablet, since it's not just on one router. I'm at a loss on how to fix this and the only thing I can compe up with atm is to try a factory reset, which is weird, since the problem was with the tablet literally from the beggining. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks in advance

I haven't really encountered that problem on my device. If you still have problems with the device after factory reset I suggest you try to get a replacement and see if it fixes it. You can also test if the problem goes away if your device is the only one connected to the router or setup a static IP. You can also post a logcat during the interruption so that we can get a better a handle on what is happening.

Try to re-flash your firmware and then install root. There is an application that grasps the Wi-Fi, so it doesn't disconnect and reconnect everytime.

Also, if you don't want to root and just stay in stock firmware, then go to this link (it is from a Samsung Moderator and yes, it is official): http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber...7407616!1470947554734&from_osc=&homeid=342384
Solution brief statement:
- disable Connectivity Monitor and Wireless Uplink
- set the AP is set on fixed channels
- run the lastest stable upgrade of both AP and Controller

Not sure what you're trying to advise here or why you're advising to flash stock firmware and root?
Also the link to the knowledge base solution doesn't work as its session key has expired.

Never mind got it working by using a different browser.
Thanks for posting it, but Samsung's 'solution' [emoji55] is to simply disconnect and reconnect the wifi which I have already tried.
It's related to the device not the network as I don't have any issue with any of my other devices on the same network.
Maybe if they'd release some source code that actually worked I might be able to do something about it instead of them refusing my request.

+1 I'm also getting this issue like crazy on my T280
Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
Mine too. I have the T280, Best Buy has the T350 for $20 more. Has dual band wifi. Might try exchange it, but I rooted it already. Can I go back to stock without them knowing?
I was dealing with this issue although it was never more than an annoyance because it never actually interrupted my wifi connection, it just showed the little toast message that said it reconnected
I somehow magically got the device to stop doing this and I don't know exactly what fixed it, but I think the step that did it was flashing the stock firmware to the device. After that, it never seemed to have the annoying bug again.
The other things that could have done it relate to installing root and using Link2SD to disable some bloatware and moving all user apps to the SD card, but my guess is the fix came from flashing the stock ROM
I have the same problem with SM-T280 (T280XXU0AQA4), tried many wireless network and I have always disconnections. There is a solution for this problem?

Also for me since day 1
I have the exact same issue with my A6 10.1.
Posted about it a while back, I tried a factory reset, i tried clearing the cache. I took it to the service centre who did a complete software rebuild. I reset my router to factory and gave the tablet a static ip address. In the end I got a replacement, the replacement has the exact same issue. A friend bought the tablet the same day I did and has the exact same issue, they also got a replacement, their replacement also has the issue. So that's 4 out of 4.
Samsung couldn't care less, I've called customer service who suggested taking it to the service centre or getting a replacement, both things I've done. I've emailed and received nothing but generic cut and paste replies telling me to factory reset and clear the cache partition. I'm over my 30 days and can't return it. So I have a lovely paper weight and I'm back to using my iPad 3 because it may be slow as anything but at least it stays connected to wifi.

It may not be Samsung's problem but the place where you bought your tablet from. You might have to reflash it to stock (the ODIN way or the Samsung Smart Switch way). Some stores refurbish items and just take the same item repackage after thinking that it is okay to use because they just hook up the tablet to the computer without it actually connecting to the wifi.
If you want to do the ODIN way, you should try going to www.updato.com and find your software and device number and install it. There will be a guide there.
If you want to do the Samsung Smart Switch way, just go download it for the PC and it should tell you how to do it. (YOU NEED YOUR DEVICE NUMBER AND SERIAL NUMBER!)
Or if it still doesn't connect online, it might be because the host file is messed up. It is located in ./system/etc./host
I'm not sure but you should be able to find it through ES File Explorer.

Thanks but I took it to the local service centre who reflashed the firmware and it made no difference. Support told me it's a known software issue but they don't know when or even if a fix will be released.
It connects to the wifi fine, it just drops connection constantly, it shows as connected and I'm sat less then three feet from my router but try streaming or opening play store and it says no connection retry. Then you have to wait until it decides to work again, sometimes that's seconds, sometimes a few minutes. Sometimes you have to manually disconnect and reconnect wifi or turn the device off then back on. Rince and repeat.
I'll download smart switch and give it a go but I don't see it helping to be honest.

Try rooting your device and then check your hosts file and fix it. Sometimes, after when I installed Freedom (In-App purchase hack) it updates the Host file to disable it to connecting to the Internet. It should only say 127.0.0.1 Host, not something like app referrer: 108.xxx.xxx

Thanks but I honest'y can't be bothered with it anymore. As I said myself and a friend got the same tablet, we've both had the same issues, we both got replacements, both the replacements have the exact same issue and I assume it's massively unlikely all 4 tablets have host file issues. I've wasted hours of my life on this (resetting my router to factory for some reason caused my wifi printer to flail which took 4 days to fix). I've not rooted it and haven't installed anything that should mess with the host file.
I may change my mind and give it a go one day when I'm bored. I assume rooting doesn't invalidate the warranty/trip the knox etc?
I ran smart switch last night, backed up, reinstalled the sofrware then restored from backup. Only the backup didn't restore all the app settings, so it removed all the progress on the games I had been playing.

Root does trip your warranty and it is a pain in the but when you are trying to install applications like Oasis's Island app because it knows if you had a "modified" OS. So, you have to be careful on what kind of application you still want to use.
If you can get another replacement or exchange, reset your device and then hand in to the store for a SM-T350 or some other device.
I know that SM-T350's are good for games and other content like watching videos.
Hope I helped and I wish you the best of luck.
The T280/T285 doesn't have knox, so nothing to trip.
Can confirm reflashing stock did not fix it on my t280. Starting to think the only fix is to get a different tablet...

[SOLVED] Verizon MMS Fails to Download All of a Sudden

I'm running Clark stock 6.0 build MPH24.49-18/unlocked/rooted/xposed on Verizon. Build is fine, was fastboot installed direct from Moto's firmware package back in September and has been running flawlessly. All of a sudden I'm not able to receive any MMS messages. My primary SMS app is Signal so I tried Google Messenger and the stock messenger app and all of them are failing to download any MMS. This just started happening a couple weeks ago. I'm not convinced that this is a rom or any customization that I may have done issue, I think it's purely something with Verizon or maybe an APN issue? It's just weird that this just started happening out of the blue. Before I contact Verizon I figured I'd ask here if anyone has come across this.
I'm on Verizon n no problems.

Had this happen once about a year ago on the stock rom too. I hadn't made any major changes and the phone stopped receiving MMS. It had been working fine for at least a month prior. On AT&Ts network for me.
Restoring a nandroid backup fixed it, but I never did actually figure out what went wrong.

I was rooted with a custom kernel, but had been for weeks with no problems. Then mms just quit working.
Didn't do much troubleshooting, sorry. Restoring the backup fixed it and it's never happened again. Could be a coincidence, but sounds just like what you described.
I've had this happen a few times, a power off reboot usually fixes it. Verizon, true pure x. I've been to stubborn to reload to see if it fixes it permanently.
SOLVED
The issue is with the APN settings. 2 Lines were incorrect:
-MMS Port was set to "not set", it needed to be "80"
-APN Type was set to "default, dun, supl", it needed to be "default, dun, supl, mms"
Very strange that these configurations magically changed themselves. What's even funnier is that Verizon customer service told me that the issue is that it's a non-Verizon phone and the only thing they could recommend was a factory reset and/or a new sim card. They also would not give me the correct APN's, they said some nonsense about that information being unavailable to them. So Google fixed this issue for me. FU Verizon.
I have had mixed luck with different APN settings. The above worked for me for a while, and then inexplicably stopped. I tried a bunch of different configurations before sticking with the settings in the attached screenshot. These settings worked for me on Marshmallow and continue to work on Nougat (7.1.1). These are also the settings that appear after resetting my network settings from the Mobile Networks menu. I hope this can help someone out.

Receiving SMS and MMS is intermittent

Thanks in advance for your help
Model A6013
Android Version 10
OxygenOS 10.3.3
Build A6013_41_200414
Magisk 20.4
Problem :crying:
I have a rooted Oneplus 6T on Cricket. The problem I am having is SMS and MMS messages are received maybe around 75% of the time.
I have no problem sending messages.
Sometimes it will work for days without having an issue, then I'll speak to someone and they let me know the 'texted' me and I didn't respond.
It seems if I text someone and they respond fairly quickly it works. But, if a text is sent to the phone randomly, it's hit or miss if I get it.
Attempts to resolve the issue
I have tried so many things trying to resolve the issue. I have worked with Cricket Customer Care. They had me update my APN settings, They have pushed things to the phone, I have even got them to replace the SIM
I have wiped the phone and restored my data. (I am wondering if something in my data is causing the issue)
I have done a lot of testing after trying to resolve the issue and I'll think it's resolved then a few days later it will reoccur.
When did problem Occur
I believe it began when I updated to Android 10
I have did several updates since the issue has occurred and the problem still exist.
I have so many things on the phone that I use daily that I don't won't to wipe without restoring. However maybe when I restore the data, maybe I am restoring the problem.
Thanks so much,
Jamie
I had my op6t on cricket when it launched. I had nothing but problems, with this phone and my previous one. SMS in my case refuses to send to certain people. Issues were never resolved. Fixed the problem by switching to a decent provider. Unfortunately you get what you pay for with cricket. And in my case I get a much better plan on Verizon for only $10 more. Try another phone with your sim see if problems persist if they do you know it's on them not on you.
Hi bladestonez,
Thanks for the response.
My OP6T worked great on Cricket for a year and a half until an update. ,
The annoying part is I can't tell if the issue is resolved for days and with all the apps and data I use on the phone it's a major incontinence to switch to another phone temporarily.
I'm debating on loading a stock ROM and then restoring data. But, I don't want to restore the problem, if it is somewhere in my data.
I'm looking for advice on what to do and what to restore to ensure the problem isn't restored.
Thanks

If your talking about restoring data via twrp from one rom to another you cannot do that. Back up individual apps and their data only using a backup and restore app. Data is not universal between ROMs and will cause major issues, all flashing procedures call for wiping data.
Thanks.
Do you think there best way to ensure nothing is corrupt on the phone is to install stock rom, then restore with titanium backup or something?
Is there a possibility it would restore the problem?
Thanks
I had this problem but it was a problem with my carrier not my phone

Same thing? Can send fine, but receiving most but not all?
Did you ever get them to fix it? Or did you switch carriers?

Yea they fixed it I think for a while I had to put my phone in airplane mode for a few minutes to get all the missed messages. Anyway I think they fixed it I ended up breaking my phone a couple days later and getting a new one so...
