SIM unlock Sprint V20 (LS997) - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I am about to purchase this amazing phone, however I would like to use it in my country on GSM network. I want to know whether this particular model has factory GSM unlock like Verizon version or it needs to be SIM unlocked manually.
Also, if it needs to be unlocked separately, does any method available to do the same?
I looked around on XDA but could not find a clear answer.
Thanks..

dirty santa unlocks the uicc, flash the us996 rom or a aosp rom and put in your sim.
otherwise using a cdma phone on a gsm network isnt the best ideal and you should by the unlocked international variant to avoid these issues in the first place. Why buy a carrier phone when you arent using on that carrier? Seems like your trying to go a shady route to me..

Hello, i was using your magisk rom on sprint network but i decided to flash the deodexed stock version that i downloaded from the dirty santa root method since i also have verizon. The issues with that Rom is that it doesnt read the external sd card and it did not get 4g/LTE. It took me a long time and reading to finally 4g and internet working as well as the hot spot tether by replacing the apn.xml file with one i found online. But is there a way you can share a working kernel that fixes the sd card error issue on this deodexed stock rom? Thank you man you're awesome!

If ur using both. Id suggest trying dualboot patcher to swtich between the 2. You should flash a vzw rom with its matching vzw kernel to get it 100%.
Id try the angry albatross aka warewolf kernel or the konverged kernel as they are the most universal.
The kernels i use are for sprint and wouldnt mesh with the us996 rom. Try a Vs995 rom and see how it acts. Thats where you should be pulling the parts you need.
But sd card shouldnt be a issue on any rom as far as i know. May be a sd card error.

Dual boot patcher? ? i actually dont want it on sprint lol i have an lg g5 for my sprint account. I just wish i could get sd card reader working and thank you for the advice. I did try the warewolf kernel a few weeks ago before i got the 4g internet to work on this rom but performance sucked so i went back to magisk.

This is what im running on my ls997 currently working on verizon with hot spot enabled.

Put ur sd card into pc. And run the sd repair and put back in
Edit:
Try a Vzw rom fully. Us996 is unlocked rom and is gsm based.. Do VS995 rom.

My sd card is not corrupted. It reads fine from the file manager on cwm and any other rom. Is that a software for repairing sd cards what you are suggesting? And i am afraid to try any other roms that are not ls997, i dont want to brick or be stock on a firmware that is going to give me more bugs then what i have.

I would try it lol.. U have twrp backups and ur hust flashing a dif rom.Worst it won't boot but they are on us996 bootloader also. Shouldn't be any diff. May need to find somone with modem backup to get their radios.
Give me a min. Ill go find a vzw rom and flash it on my dualboot lol
You could also flash the rr aosp rom. Its nice. It would be better fit to run a dif carrier also.

As far as the picture messaging which is the second issue, Looking on google it sounds like it has to do with the apns-conf.xml file. Someone said they deleted the cbs parts of the file but if i do it and save it. The rest of the apns disappear from apn setting under settings. Here is the info i have on my .xml file

How did you manage to get 4g on the US996 rom? I am having the same issue with that rom.

@Ablazelemon2 Just several posts below is my short guide - please try it - you should be able to use non Sprint SIM.

Oooo Boost...
Ok. I hope Im posting this in the correct area. Please forgive me if I am not.
I purchased a refurbished LG V20 LS997. It's a Sprint model obviously.
It has a clean esn. Verified through the Sprint portal.
I am trying to get it onto the Boost network.
I previously had my Sprint LG G3 LS990 running flawlessly on Boost.
The V20 should work just as well.
My issue that I keep running into is that the V20 I have still has a SIM number attached to it. However, the device did not come with a SIM card at all.
Sprint WILL NOT free the SIM number from the device in order for me to insert and use a Boost SIM.
When I attempt to swap the device myself I am prompted with an error message about the SIM.
When I call Boost to get this process taken care of, they run into the same error.
Now I am aware that the V20 is not present on the list of accepted sprint devices.
However, there is a Boost mobile variant of the V20 directly through LG.
So I am CERTAIN this will work on the Boost network.
Only thing holding the process back is the SIM that is locked to the device.
Does anyone have any idea what I should do here?
I am lost.
Thank you in advance!

Check the software version.. If it is zv5 then you can unlock it from the hidden menu.. What you can do and what is available for you is dependant on the software version... If you are on an older software version do not upgrade to the newest since you will not have root options..

Thank you for replying!
I have the ZVB Software Version on the device.
Aside form that, I got it activated this evening at a local Boost store. It seems as though all that needed to happen was to get a proper SIM card for it. The employee used a "Bring Your Own PHONE SIM Card Activation Kit". It has an orange package vs. the white packaging for the incompatible SIM I had purchased from the other Boost store I had gone to.
The process was rather painless and took only a few minutes to get the phone up and running on the network.
It cost me $30 and a small amount of patients.
This phone is phenomenal and I am very thankful for the employee that got it working for me.
Thank you again ScottieRotten.
If anyone has any questions about getting the Sprint LG V20 LS997 onto the Boost network, feel free to ask me anything and I will gladly help.

Interesting. My wife used to be a Boost customer. I bought her a LS997 about a year ago, and I intended to just swap her old phone and stay with Boost. However, Boost insisted that they could not activate the V20 on their network. We therefore ported her number to Twigby, and the V20 has been working great on Twigby ever since. Boost lost a long term customer due to their stupid BYOD restrictions.
Note that this discussion is unrelated to the OP though. Boost and Twigby both operate on the Sprint network, so no SIM unlock is needed for them.

Yes it was a bit of hoop jump but as long as the proper SIM is used, you can use just about any Sprint phone on Boost. They swore up and down that "it wasn't a compatible device" but I just insisted they try until they did. And it worked!

Thanks!

[Q] n900v - Tmobile Sim - Cant get service

Hi guys, really hoping you can help me out here.
I have a n900v and i have a tmobile sim in it (metroPCS, but same thing now). I've seen several threads here saying guys put in their metro or tmobile sim and voice/text worked right off the bat. The same is not true for me. I have put in my sim and tried several different tmobile APN settings (ones specifically for the Note 3 on tmobile, and then the one my S3 currently uses) and nothing works. I looked for a tmobile note 3 radio to flash thinking that would work but i dont even see a radios thread in the n900t forums. I even flashed the hyperdrive rom hoping that would open me up.
Can anyone tell me how to get this phone on the tmobile network?

pretty sure u would have to get metro to first add the IMEI to their database before the sim could work

I just called and gave them the IMEI to add to the DB, they said it wasnt listed in their inventory and may need to be unlocked. But i dont get a sim unlock prompt on the phone and every post says these come unlocked.. I have a feeling it's the radio that i need. Does anyone have a recovery or odin flashable tmobile modem?
Tmobile rom didnt fix either
Just safestrapped a stock tmobile rom and it didnt help. Guess it didnt include the modem. I need to find some firmware to extract it from.

Porting stock L-01F (Japanese G2) ROM to d800 (AT&T G2)

I would like to know if it's possible to port the stock ROM of Japanese variant of the LG G2 (L-01F) to an AT&T LG G2?
I travel a LOT to Tokyo and using my phone on AT&T will just cost me an arm and 50 legs when I'm half across the world.
I'm thinking if I just flash the stock ROM of the Docomo version that it'll work, swap out my AT&T SIM card for a Docomo SIM card - flash the ROM and be good on the go. And when I go back to the states I'll just restore the nandroid of my AT&T stock ROM and slip in my AT&T card.
What exactly does it take to port the ROM over? I'm hearing that just flashing the ROM and flashing the AT&T kernel would work just fine.
Thanks for the help!
Bump, I really hope I've posted this in the right section.

Yes my phone is unlocked but some off the apps that are exclusive to Docomo handsets are locked and some are tied to their ROM framework and such. I tried downloading certain apps to see if I can get them to work on the AT&T ROM but it's a no go :\

US Unlocked... VZW radio vs full VZW conversion for international use

I just picked up the standard Unlocked HTC 10 and I'm looking to use it as my Verizon daily driver. I'm also looking to use it overseas while I'm in Germany for a month (using whatever plan I find when I get there... recommendations would be appreciated, but I digress).
Are there any pros/cons to flashing the Verizon radios vs converting to the full Verizon version for when I make it overseas?

From my experience it's a waste of time "converting" it to a Verizon phone...flash one of the ROMs that support multiple carriers.. for example leedroid ROM or viper. Keep the zip on your SD In case you gotta flash it in Germany to choose another carrier(international) support option.

SInce the MID is already the same why not just S-off and supercid the device.. .allowing you to fully go either direction by simply flashing an RUU file from your ext SD ?

SuperCID wouldn't let me flash the ROMs...
Well, the ROMs flashed but wouldn't boot up. Just hangs up on green htc logo. Soon as I changed CID back to unlocked, everything worked fine again. Idk maybe it's just me
I'm hoping for something that allows a simple sim card swap as (truth be told) it's going to be used by my mother.
Idk if you can do that. I believe you still have to change some thing in the "mobile data" settings going from Verizon to using it in Germany. Not sure though. Maybe some of these ROMs will have all the goodness already baked in...

Switch Firmware,

Hello, xda_developers.
I just got mail S7 Unlocked in the mail that I ordered from eBay, I believe it was a sweet deal CAD $549.99 + tax. I am with Telus BTW. Let's get to the point.
The phone is with Sprint which has bloatware and APN is locked out. I want to flash a new firmware onto the phone without Tripping the Knox. I looked into the 930U Firmware but don't know which one to pick. I looked into the thread: "Bloat free firmware 930U....anyone tried it?" and saw the part about root, so I backed out.
After I looked into the Sprint SM-G930P firmware and saw few different "Regions": SPR, XAS, and VMU. I found"SPR" is Sprint, and "VMU" is Virgin Mobile USA. For "XAS" I am not too sure, but "XAS image has the APN section unlocked". ("Here" )
Afterwards, I found the forum "Found a code...interesting...." and used the code "##BRAND#" and removed the Sprint boot logo, and some bloatware but the APN was still locked out, and still had "Hands-Free Activation".
I need help picking the right Firmware for my phone, which will let me add APN, and remove the "Hands-Free Activation". I do not want or need to root the phone.
The phone is up to the latest update:
Software Version: SG930PVPS2APG1 ,
Hardware version: REV0.6 ,
Baseband version: G930PVPS2APG1 ,
Build number: MMB29M.G930PVPS2APG1 .
I did not want to flash firmware without knowing for sure it will not brick the phone, brand new phone in a long time, I don't want to break it or brick it on the first day.
Aswell, I am not sure if I can flash a Canadian firmware, SM-G930W8 or the Global Firmware, SM-G930F.
Thank you for reading, hope you can help me out.

the 930U firmware is bloatware free, and I don't have to root the phone? Also does it have the "Hands-Free Activation" or the "Activate this device" in Settings?
It's bloatware free and it doesn't require root. And when I flashed...it simply activated my device and there's no activate device in settings.

alright, thank you very much.
Going to go flash it now
edit: Quick Update, went to flash the G930U files(firmware?) and it all went smoothly. Takes time to register onto network. any fix without root?
edit 2: Just did a factory reset from recovery, seems to have fixed the slow network register
edit 3: The phone seems to run warmer than the sprint firmware, no idea why
Never mind, I am, an idiot.

Congrats on the phone! That is a good deal considering the phone goes for 899 brand new, and I'd assume around 600-750. But with black listing these days I wouldn't trust Kijiji etc.
Your phone should work fine except for LTE. Its missing I believe 2-3 bands for LTE but on the plus side it's the bands that bell/Telus don't really use much like 2600. So if you ever see soneone else have LTE and not you that would be why but, then again the bands you don't have usually are for rural areas
Enjoy the phone

Thank you very much. It's a pretty nice deal, still going on I believe. I don't have to worry about the blacklist. Even without the 2600 band data works great, really don't mind not having a few LTE bands, for the price i got the phone for. With the 930U firmware, it works great.

The U firmware has more/better LTE bands enabled than the Sprint (P) firmware. I strongly doubt it's missing any LTE bands used in Canada.

I believe your correct with the U firmware It shouldn't be missing a band or 2 like it is on the Sprint firmware. But yes about the same price as you'd get it on Kijiji (since there's tax) but it's new and don't have to worry about the blacklist

FWIW - here are the bands that are apparently supported in the 930U firmware. This is band priority list from the LTE section of the ##DATA# menu. Not sure which bands Canada uses, but it looks like the only major one missing might be band 17?

I think the Canadian networks may have started using MFBI on band 12 (like AT&T has). If so then B17 would no longer be necessary in Canada. The best place to verify this might be to post a question about it on the Bell and Rogers forums on Howardforums.
In G930UUEU2APEH thread it is said:
"root with the only g930a method there is right now"
So, this universal firmware can be rooted, right?

Did the actual flash fail, or did one or more of the MD5 checks fail? What version of Odin did you use? If any of the MD5 checks failed, you just need to download the firmware again - your download was corrupted. If the actual flash failed, the most common cause is the USB cable/connection. Try another USB cable, and/or another USB port on your computer, and don't move the phone or computer around while it's flashing. Odin is very temperamental if the connection is not perfect.

I'm confused too. Are you wanting to use it on Sprint or T-Mobile? Do you have a sprint account, and did your phone activate on Sprint? I don't have any experience using a non-Sprint sim with this phone/firmware. The only thing I can suggest it maybe do a factory reset and go through the setup/activation with the T-Mobile sim already in the phone. Good luck.
If you're wanting to use both Sprint and T-Mobile on this phone, I'm not sure if that's possible. From what I've read elsewhere, even though this firmware is unlocked, it can only be active on one carrier at a time. I don't think you can switch back and forth at will, without activating/deactivating from one carrier to the other. I could be wrong though, as I have not used anything but my original Sprint sim.

Sprint HTC 10 on T-Mobile?

Does the Sprint variant work with Ting GSM (essentially T-Mobile towers) if you SIM unlock it following the SIM unlock tutorials? Or would it require more than that? I looked on HTC's site and its shows the phone has all the same bands for the Sprint version and T-Mobile version. Does anyone have a Sprint version working with Ting or T-Mobile?

I believe it does if you change your cid and flash it to the unlocked firmware. There are threads everywhere on how to do this, make sure to check the un-carrier branded HTC 10 xda site.

I run a Sprint device on T-Mobile. Works perfect with the exception of WiFI Calling which I am currently trying to get working.
Simple way is to unlock SIM NV method, load custom recovery, load latest Viper ROM, on AROMA pick the proper base install MM or N and Choose T-Mobile for carrier and that's really it man. the LTE bands are already all there, reason why I say Viper after the unlock is because other people including me had trouble getting data to work on stock Sprint MM. Flashing Viper solved that beautifully.

The only thing that sucks is you will be missing WiFi Calling which to me was a little annoying. I have tried everything, I went as far as S-OFF (kinda of a waste of $25) installed multiple firmwares (T-Mobile stock with Sprint radio, etc), different rom's, so far nothing, it seems tied to the actual us unlocked/t-mobile radio which as we know isn't compatible with the Sprint variant. On the plus everything else works including VoLTE.

If you ever figured out Wi-Fi calling on the Sprint HTC 10 for T-Mobile, do you remember how and can you tell me?
