[CM] Couldn't Sign in Google - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys
Today I tried to update my CM 14.1 to Lineage OS and during the update process (full wipe + rom + gapps installation) i might made a mistake or something because when i tried to go through the setup it came this error when trying to connect to the Google Servers.
Couldn't sign in
There was a problem communicating with Google servers.
Try again later.

So i thought it would be a good idea to go back to CM14.1 so i made another full wipe and installed the newest rom + nano gapps. But the problem is that the error still appears. And i already tried to edit the host file.
Any solutions ?
EDIT: I fixed it! I deleted the hosts file again and cleared the cache from the G-Play app

[Q] Google play crash after flashing to cm7.2

Hey friends,
I flashed to CM7.2 today from CM7.1 on my Motorola Defy and everything went fine. I used the stable release, and the latest relevant gapp-ics file.
After reboot was over, I tried to access Google Play, it asked me for my user and started loading. After a few seconds it crashed and ever since I'm getting a server error message and right afterwards it crashes saying "process com.android.vending has stopped unexpectedly".
Means I cannot connect with my google account and can't install any apps at the moment.
I tried reinstalling the mod again; reinstalling the gapp file; using an older gapp-ics file; clearing cache and date; rebooting; clearing malvik cache and what not!
Now I noticed that google search is crashing as well.
Any ideas anyone?
* I searched for a similar thread for quite a while, all ideas were unsuccessful.
Many thanks!

A very simple solution - flash GB gapps. You flashed ICS (CM9) gapps. Gingerbread is CM7.2/7.1.

have you tried to install a gb ggaps? cm7 is a gb not ics
There are some possible ways:
(1) Remove data of Google Play&Google Services Framework and after this, you may get stuck in launching Google Play(Server Error) and reboot and retry
(2) Launch GTalk first and launch Google Play
(3) If they don't work, reboot recovery and wipe DATA

PureNexus 6.0.1-20160315: "Unfortunatley, Google play services has stopped."
Hi there.
Yesterday i got my Nexus 6P rooted and flashed the latest TWRP version and the latest version of the PureNexus ROM on it. Unfortunately, I receive the following pop-up in irregular spans: "Unfortunatley, Google play services has stopped." The message pops up randomly when I use the smartphone, but logically especially then when I use apps like YouTube and such. It also goes away automatically, but it's extremly annoying.
Apart from that, the system runs great. I already tried the following, without success:
-installing another version of GApps
-deleting dalvik/cache and data
-deleting data and cache of the "Google Play Services", "Google Play Store" and "Google Services Framework" under Settings->Apps" with a followed reboot
-reset app preferences under Settings->Apps"
-manually install another version of the "Google Play Services"
-reinstall the zip file of the GApps.
-installation of another GApps file with the stock version of it from the official page instead of the one that's listed on xda.
-other small stuff...
...but the problem still persists. I hope you guys can help me solving this issue, I'd really like to stay on the PureNexus ROM
Thanks in advance, aightbit

Exactly what Gapps have you flashed? Do you have any apps that suppress services, like Greenify or Servicely?

First, thanks for the reply.
I got GApps from the site http://opengapps.org/ with the following setup: ARM64, Android 6.0, stock.
I don't use any suppress services, the problem was there from the beginning after the first boot with the PureNexus and GApps flashed on the device.
Should probably use the ones from the Pure Nexus Post

Did you wipe properly (system, data, cache, dalvik cache) before flashing?

That isn't the cause, I use Open Gapps too.

I'm pretty sure I did, I might have missed one of these points. I will retry it later this week, unfortunately I can't do it right now, I have limited access to my smartphone due to work.

I'm aware of that. Tried it with this type of Gapps first, then switched to the Gapps I provided to after I experienced the problem...

I just wiped the parameters you specified and flashed the dynamic Gapps and the same version of the PureNexus ROM again, it now works without a flaw.
Thanks for the help guys and a nice easter.

google play services stoped - after flashing CM13

Hi there, came from stock galaxy s4 jfltexx with lollipop. Wanted to flash CM13 nightly with gapps. After flashing CM13 and gapps there is a problem with the gapps. Right after reboot "unfortunately google play services has stopped" appears again and again.
Here is what I've done:
- flashed CF-Auto-Root via Odin
- flashed TWRP 3.0.0.0 via Odin
- downloaded CM13 nightly from 28.03.
- downloaded gapps nano from 28.03.
- did a full wipe
- wiped /system
- installed cm13 (from internal /sdcard)
- installed gapps (from internal /sdcard)
- cleared dalvik and cache
- rebooted
- "unfortunately google play services has stopped" appears
things I've tested:
- repeated the steps - no change
- tried earlier gapps - no change
did some tricky advises:
- took off sim card & didn't use wifi to bypass setup wizard (worked but no change)
- set all permissions for google services and play store within preferences (done, no change)
- rebooted and cleared dalvik and cache (no change)
- re-installed play services as apk (worked but no change)
- re-installed play store as apk (worked but no change)
- stopping google play services isn't possible (grayed)
Hmm, I'm not a technical noob (I think) but this one makes me crazy. I have a galaxy s4 jfltexx with 32GB internal memory.
Went back to lollipop backup.
Anyone there with the same problem and maybe a solution? Would give CM13 a try but without gapps usability is
missing a little bit.
Sorry for bad english.

Might wanna try a different gapps package (package, not earlier builds).
Open gapps is pretty much hit and miss. Some days the packages work and other days they don't. So either try a different package, like micro or pico, or try different gapps altogether. A-Gapps and banks gapps seem to be popular. Note that A-Gapps is a very slim package, similar to pico gapps.
Or you could try a different rom.
clearing all the google related apps' data from settings/apps and then rebooting is also worth a try.
playstore
google play services
google services framework

Don't use Opengapps. That also gives me a lot of problems. Use Banks Gapps instead.
http://download.dirtyunicorns.com/files/gapps/banks_gapps/
Thanks for the replies. I think I'll experiment with different gapps like a-gapps since I already tried different packages from open gapps.
Yessss, a-gapps did the trick for me and works perfectly . Many thanks for the suggestions.
I'm having exactly the same problems. i have tried 5 different Open GApps ROMS,
I've tried BaNks_Dynamic_GApps_6.x.x_3_11_16_34.zip.
I've tried A-GAPPS 6.0.1_18022016_4.1.zip
I have tried numerous sequences of Cache/Davlik wipes. Makes no difference if I perform those wipes in between CM13 and GApps, or just do the wipes at the end.
I have tried the Permissions fix on Google Play Services.
I've tried removing the microSD card and only using internal storage.
Basically, I've wasted 14 hours on this, and every combination I've tried results in Google Play Services errors. Some packages produce the errors less frequently, but all do it.
Enough is enough, I've just reverted back to CM12.1. It all worked flawlessly and only took a couple of minutes.
(All this hassle because I'd read that CM13 nightlies had fixed an issue with ChromeCast and Photos/Slides)
It works!
I can happily say that after trying again with new nightlies, I have CM13 working with OpenGApps
I've used the 2016-03-31 CM13 nightly for jfltexx
With the 2016-04-01 Opengapps mini nightly
Used TWRP 2.8.7.0
Installation couldn't have been simpler.
On my newly installed CM12.1 phone
Booted into TWRP
Backed up
From microSD card, loaded the CM13 zip
also queued up the OpenGapps zip
Flashed both at once
Wiped davlik/cache
rebooted
Phone still has all my apps and settings.
Google play works
I can cast photos and slides to my ChromeCast.
I suspect a change in the 2016 -03-30 CM13 nightly may be responsible for the fix
"Fix ownership for files/folders created by ExternalStorageProvider on ext4/f2fs"
So far, CM13 seems very stable. I hope this helps someone
Confirmed! Tried 2016-03-31 CM13 nightly with 2016-04-02 Opengapps nano. Now it works without the "Unfortunately the Google Service has stopped" error.
Tried also CM13 2016-04-01 - no Google Play service error but any text starts with "MOD...". This is for sure a problem with the nightly, so 2016-03-31 seems to work well with open gapps.

LineageOS 2017-09-20 "Setup Wizard has stopped" - can someone help?

Hi there,
Today I decided its time to clean up the phone and make a real factory reset, used LineageOS 14.1 before. So I used TWRP and cleaned all Partitions. After this, I got brand new Lineage Weekly from 20th September and newest GApps (Nano) from today.
I installed Lineage and after this without a reboot Gapps. Booting took some time, Assistent showed up and I clicked next. Because there is no SIM inside, I had to click SKIP. And after this, Setup Wizard crashed. When I google, it seems to be a common problem. But the solutions don´t work, because the System App already uses the permission, and for the Lineage Setup Wizard I cant set any Permissions.
Any help on how to solve this problem?

I had that problem today. Clean flash again LOS + gapps, and skip logging into your google account. That did it for me. (I logged in after finishing setup wizard by going to settings -> accounts).

I didn´t reach the login dialog. Its just language selection, and skip that no SIM is inserted and there is the crash.
solved
I found out that some people wrote to login to wifi and google account. So I did this and added a SIM card also, then the error didn´t show up again.

Stuck on 'Just a sec....'

Been trying to flash Android 9 based ROMs to my SM-N900V, always the same result. Tried lineage official, unofficial, as well as a couple others. I have latest TWRP for hltemo. I wipe everything but microSD, format data. Flash ROM, wipe Dalvik, flash gapps, wipe Dalvik then rebooting. Is there some other formatting I should be doing? Am I missing something?
Just tried latest lineage build, latest gapps, no difference. Still stuck on "Just a sec...." I guess I must be the only one with this problem? Thankfully not my primary phone any more.
Someone over on Reddit suggested removing /data/system/app-ops.XML, apparently that worked for them. Not me though ?

you have to be in a proper internet connection(or none at all, both works) during setup since it will prompt you to login with your google account
though alternatively, you can use different gapps packages like bitgapps where it doesnt have the setup wizard included(its optional if you need to backup contacts/messages through google) to bypass those, or find the setup wizard apk from /system/app or /system/priv-app and delete it yourself

Tried deleting the lineage setup wizard (actually I just renamed it). Tried flashing just the ROM with no gapps, that results in a blank screen with only volume buttons / reboot power off available.
Gave up, found an unofficial lineage 17.1 (!) for Note 3 & flashed it. Finally passed "Just a sec...."!!

lineage setup wizard is different to google's, los has their own setup wizard(including los-based roms like crdroid and ressurectionremix), so its likely to break if you remove it, whereas aosp-based roms(e.g. havoc and others) relies on google's own setup wizard
