Am I The Only One ....

...Who seems to be getting worse battery life since I've rooted and installed CM10 and Franco Kernel than stock.
Before with stock I was only losing about 1% every two hours on standby (sometimes even better I've no idea how)
Now I'm losing about 3% an hour on standby and also about 30% an hour screen time with just basic browsing (Screen brightness set to auto).
Also Media server is hammering my battery. Like I lost 3% battery in 15 mins without the screen on just playing music (not streaming) is that normal, I've come from an iphone 4s which didn't lose that in an hour :S
have i flashed it badly is there something else maybe i should try or are these stats about right ????
thanks guys
That's just the way it is just custom roms. When flashing, put your head between your legs and pray for the best. You can spend hours trying to figure out what's gone wrong, but you might never get an answer.
You can try underclocking your N4. Currently my dual-core Snapdragon S3 T-Mo Galaxy S2 is underclocked to 810MHz from 1.5GHz and performance is still great. I'm guessing you can UC your N4 to at least 1.2-1GHz and performance will still be great because of the quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU. Also, what governor and i/o are you using?

Hi Gents
Thanks for the reply, yeah it does seem a bit of a hit and miss kinda situation, I'm not masively bothered, im hoping eventually someone will stumple across a fix for the way the screen murders the battery life but im not holding my breath. Still love the phone, really getting used to it now, have tried (and failed) many times to switch to android, must be honest, this is the closest I've come so far to waving bye bye to ios, android is really really fantastic as an os, it's also super pretty to look at these days, stock apps like contacts, calender and the phone app itself are beautiful.
Let the phone and battery have several cycles, it will improve, eventually
thanks mate !!

Under clocking your phone isn't a viable situation. It's a phone, what's the point in it if you're not going to use it to your fullest when my phone lasts through the whole day going from 384-1500?
Some battery tips for op:
- download better battery stats (Google it for a xda version) use this to debug wakelock and ensure your phone is deep sleeping under cpu states. You can also use cpu spy to check cpu stats. Better battery stats is a must need.
- disable Google latitude in maps. Disable the automatic reporting and any other checked marks
- disable Google now cards that you have no use for
- disable gps (some apps use gps and drains battery when it keeps using gps when it isn't necessary)
- ensure your governor is interactive and on latest version of Franco (r20 is very good)

Just stick with the stock kernel that comes with cm10.

Highly advise doing that. Other kernels are way more optimized whereas CM is focused on the ROM itself and not optimizing the stock kernel.
I believe CM10 uses stock Google kernel anyways (could be wrong).
Use Franco Kernel or anybody elses kernel that you choose to.
Mine definitely improved after rooting and flashing custom ROM. Battery life when I was still stock was horrible.

Kernel is what makes battery life better, not a ROM.

A ROM has very minimal battery life improvements, it isn't as significant as a kernel. Hence the definition of "better"

Kernel Tests

Would anyone be interested in me doing kernel tests like I do for the original Nexus 7? I test battery life and performance.
Check out my thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889571
If there is enough interest I'll do it!

Yes please !!!
So far I tried a few, with mostly battery life in mind, but obviously performance is of interest as well
If you have the time to come up with a systematic, comprehensive comparison, it is really useful for lots of us (Or at least for me ahaha)
I would be interested. I know that kernel performance and battery life will be different for each user, but this would be great to use as a base for comparing kernels
Someone also did kernel tests early on but I would like to see it updated with battery life.

I used your thread as a reference many times and would love to have it again.
Hell yes! I used your resource many, many times with my old Nexus 7.
I'm still not sure if I'm going to do it because I'm getting shockingly bad battery life to begin with so I might get that worked out first.
For example: the battery life test I did (HD video, SW decoding, full brightness) @ 1.5Ghz on elementalx 1.4 got 4 hours 40 minutes.. so yeah compared to the original nexus 7 and other battery life screenshots I have seen that is fairly bad.
Hope you'll continue with the tests!
I find them very usefull! :good:
do it!
i had pretty good battery on stock , just switched to franco. will see how it goes.
I would love to see some tests with the doubletap2wake features enabled also. I wanna see how this affects battery life.

Not sure how we could test that... Besides letting it drain for a certain amount of time

Deep sleep with everything turned off (Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, etc.) and no wakeups consumes around 7mW. S2W consumes an additional 55mW.
The 62mW power consumption with S2W/doubletap2wake correspond to the battery being drained in 10 days.
Results Thread up now!

Dont expect better battery life and heating problem fix. Because Nougat is high end software than marsmallow. Maybe a little possible, new doze mode will try to improve battery but I dont have nay hope about it

Finally:victory:

Anyone like Nougat over Marshmallow?

I am reluctant to switch over because I can't leave xposed. Is nougat faster or better than marshmallow by a significant margin?
Thanks for the input.
No
No it's actually worse especially battery life
Yes
For me N is better than MM, more fluid and battery is amazing.
So, here's the deal with the update. It's good, and offers much more enhancements than I thought. Notice I used the word "enhancements." The features are essentially the same in Nougat, but nearly everything works better (e.g. super quick unlock (fingerprint or not), ), no more annoying volume warning (finally!), ultra power saving mode has more compatibility and color, multitasking, notifications, camera smoothness, edge features, android stability). Initially, I was quite mad at Samsung for enforcing a change from QHD to FHD resolution, but it appears that the performance enhancements are worth it. It makes up for the Snapdragons lackluster performance on this device. I believe battery-life is slightly worse so far, but it might be because I'm using my device more. Is it faster? Yes, but a reboot is needed more often than before as well. Marshmallow felt slightly more smooth than this though. Still, the coolest thing about this update is it makes you feel like you got a new device for the few minutes.
People edge is ugly on nougat...
Really worse than mm
I'm loving it. Fast, better interface, better notifications, battery life seems better (Exynos)...the only thing I notice is that memory management seems more aggressive. I wouldn't change back. Not rooted, not using Xposed (if I was, then Nougat would not make sense yet)
Loving it so far, battery life has been better than ever before for me, love the interface the new performance mode selections, the power saving and especially changing the resolution it's great.
I like Nougat more then MM, but battery life on Nougat is worse for me then on MM....
i do not know battery life in mm. but battery life in nougat is pretty good.
Love N over MM. Battery life is better for me. Also ui is much nicer.

Go figure.
I am in no rush to change from MM. 8 hour SOT average and I don't want to mess that up!!
The thing i love the most is the new UI.. And offcourse the batterylife is way better then mm

I don't like the light scheme. Possibly a contributor to reduced battery life. A dark scheme will help further.
