POSSIBLE SOLUTION - WiFi drop Connection - OnePlus 3T Guides, News, & Discussion

Just disable ipv6 on your Modem/Router and you are good to go, no more DROPS in your WiFi signal.
If your modem doesn't have the option to disable ipv6, you can alternatively create an ad-hoc network while this is not patched by Oneplus.
This was tested today in oneplus forum, so it may not solve the issue for all the users.
Let US know if this worked for you.
Cheers

I have other problem, same SSID for 2.4 and 5 GHz, and OnePlus is switching between them when I am little further form the router (so 5GHz drops a bit in range). So for example going to bathroom I have to wait there until connection to play my spotify

Will this work too?

[Q] Is there any solution for WiFi not connecting to certain networks

My Nexus 10 works fine on most WiFi networks, but there are a few places where it fails. The N10 sees the network which has fine signal strength. It goes to the "Connecting" state, waits 30 seconds or so, and then drops back to "Saved".
I would think the network had non-functional DHCP, but I can connect with a Lenovo notebook instantly from the same place to the same network and AP.
The router that causes the problem is a Cisco 1200 series AP, operating vanilla 802.11g, with an open network, in the 2.4 GHz band.
I have tried all the Wi-Fi-related options in the N10, and removed and recreated the connection. I have found nothing that helps.
Has anyone that has seen this issue found a solution?

Seen this a million times, and it's one of my lingering dislikes about Android (although to be fair, I've seen the analogue -- much less -- on my iPad as well). Toggling the Wi-Fi state on and off like mad (or Airplane Mode) usually does the trick for me...eventually. Have you tried rebooting the router (relatively sure you've have, sorry) or using an app like Wi-Fi Analyzer from the Play Store to see if there's any channel interference? Mobile devices don't always deal well with overlapping channel use.

I cannot reboot the router because I have the problem in a public place (an airport). I do not have the problem with my own router.
I do use a WiFi analyzer, and there is no interference issue. The AP is on a clear channel, and the signal is very strong.
So the only and best solution it to turn Wi-Fi on an off rapidly until it works? Really?????

Never said it wasn't stupid. It's possible that the airport is using a network hack to facilitate its captive portal (I assume it uses some kind of gateway?), and Android is really bad about network "misconfigurations."

Problem with Asus AC router, Z1 loose connection

I've bought a new Asus DSL-AC52U: dual band wifi AC router and seems that only my Z1 with this Resurrection Remix v1.5.2 (nougat) every 20/30 min, or 1/2 hours..., loses the AC WiFi and i've to switch off and on wifi to get it again, other devices like smart tv and pc on wifi ac haven't this problem. I've tried everything router related... asked for a replacement and had another new. On the 2° router done a firmware upgrade/downgrade, restore, change bands&channels, set a static ip for the phone, read the router logs but nothing useful, asking in forum/googling... NOTHING. All seems to be due to the phone. I apologize for this general description, it would be difficult make a logcat because the disconnections seem to be random and can't be reproduced... someone could help me, please?
Hello again now to your problem. Did you use DHCP server from this Asus router or static ip? If DHCP please try static and see if disconnect happens too. Also which band did u use? 2.4 or 5GHz? I never had problems with ZUK Z1 on different wifi access points like Cisco 1602i,2702,1131,1242 on 2,4 and 5GHz. What I want to say: the zuk z1 works well even on expensive wifi access point or integrated routers.

Hi, as i said i've tried almost everything, included set static ip for phone but without success. The 2,4 Ghz band of the router it's ok, no loss of signal, included for the Zuk Z1. For the router there are no other elements that could disturb the signal or damaging it in any way. I keep it even over a cardboard box for a better distribution of the signal. Today i had the possibility to try another 5 Ghz hotspot in an university and seems that Z1 remained connect, even if for a second it seems not able to load pages on chrome, but 2/5 seconds later it did it. Same behaviour happens with my router, but the phone doesn't recover connection (so pages doesn't load) and often i found it totally disconnected from router... i don't know, is very strange and mindblowing, i repeat that other 5 Ghz devices haven't this problem, even a brand new Sony Android TV... so seems not a totally router fault.
Surfing online there are various cases of people that loose the wifi signal while screen is off and in general problems with the wifi ac, i hope someone can help me.

Ok, so the problem is only with the 5Ghz radio. Have you Auto channel? Maybe changing the channel to a fixed one can improve stability. You can give it a try.

I'm out of ideas as I don't know what options are the router have.

WiFi unstable

WiFi is very unstable when you aren't next to the access point. It keeps switching from WiFi to data connection.
Furthermore, when gripping the phone from the upside without a cover (near the camera), the WiFi connection will not work anymore.
Someone is experiencing this problem?
same to me
WiFi works normal here... No deathgrip
Maybe you can try enabling Aggressive WLAN to Cellular handover at developer settings under the networking tab to fix your issue

Definitely this is not a solution...

Well, the problem in my case was that I have two access points with the same name at the two sides of the house, and from my room the second AP has a better signal, but it had some trouble and it wasn't working, so the phone wifi was switching from the first to the second continually.
However if you hold the phone from the upside, there is a very strong loss of signal. A workaround is to use a case.
I can say that wifi antennas of this phone are not that good, like the iPhone 7.
My previously Xiaomi phone had a better wifi signal on very distant access point.

I agree: not a solution.
I've changed ssid of 5Ghz wifi (now is different from 2.4) and wifi don't disconnect random anymore.

Yes, the same SSID on different AP / technologies makes only troubles.
Never use the same name for 2,4Ghz and 5Ghz. Unfortunately many providers have the routers that are configured this way.

I've configured my router with same ssid to use band steering (i can't post link: search "band steering avm" from a search engine)
That technology do exactly the trick: switching from frequency bands, but even disabling it Mi A1 doesn't manage WiFi correctly and don't suppose to do that!
Hi Guys
Is there a solution for unstable wifi connections.
thank you

Wi-Fi frequency band- where did this option go, Any fix to prefer 5ghz?

There once was the option to set a preference on Android to use/prefer 5ghz over 2.4Ghz. It was called "Wi-Fi frequency band" in the settings. This feature has gone away and it looks to have been replaced with "Smart Wi-Fi Switcher," but that seems to be associated with Cell to WiFi transitioning more so than 5ghz to 2.4ghz transitioning.
The reason I am asking is that, in poking around, I learned that it's better to use the same SSID for 2.4 and 5ghz wifi.... consumes less resources and the client can "stay" on wifi better/longer by switching away from a weak 5ghz signal from the AP to 2.4ghz using the same SSID. (I'm not running mesh or WDS either....yet....) I took the plunge and named both SSID's the same on my router (running dd-wrt). I even took the time to make sure the beacon interval on 5ghz is shorter than 2.4ghz so clients will "see" 5ghz first and use it.
The issue comes when 5ghz goes weak the 6T moves to 2,4ghz- Exactly as intended and desired. However, when 5ghz signal is strong again, the 6T lingers on 2,4ghz and won't switch back to the 5ghz stream.
I know this is a well known issue on Android, but is there a good fix? (prefer no apps as a solution)
I'm running beta builds, and have developer options enabled. Though I don't want to mess with Root.
Any solution?
And yes, I know I can name the SSID's different, but the phone's handoff between the different SSID's is **** when out in the yard and buggers up my music/podcast/streaming.

Link found to WiFi 5GHz problems

So like everyone else I have the 5GHz wifi problem. If I'm not in the same room as the router you can forget using 5GHz. So I found the link to the problem. I just don't know how to solve it. I connected to the 5GHz in a trouble location while having mobile data and Bluetooth turned on. Internet speeds were terrible to the point the speed test would barely run. I turned Bluetooth off, and the speed test are right on par with my old phone, and 5GHz is working fine while Bluetooth is off.
5Ghz is not meant for long range though, 2.4Ghz takes care of that..
You should be able to obtain a signal within around 30feet, potentially more, but it'll drop off at that point.
2.4 carries a lot better..
Could it be to do with the channels that the phone may be using for WiFi??
Turn off all WiFi devices and Bluetooth in the room and see how the test goes.
Very strange.
I am a bit confused as to why people are reporting needing to turn BT off to operate 5GHZ Wifi. BT operates in the 2.4xx space. If you are saying turning it off resolves your problem this points to either a greater hardware/software issue or that you are not operating in 5Ghz at all.
I understand how 2.4 and 5 work as far as range and bandwidth goes. I tested this theory in the same spot my old phone would get 100mbps down (what I pay for) while connected to 5Ghz Wifi. The OnePlus 8 Pro while connected to 5Ghz in the same spot with Bluetooth enabled would cause the phones speed to drop to around 5mbps down and sometimes to the point I get nothing and losing connection. Now if I repeat the same scenario but this time I disable Bluetooth the connection is stable and speeds are 90-100mbps down. I repeated this multiple times sitting in the same location. Yes I understand that BT uses 2.4Ghz. I'm not saying that you need to turn BT off for 5Hhz Wifi to function. What I am saying is some how on this phone, and reported by others, the 5Ghz Wifi on this phone does not function properly. There have been zero solutions or reasons why that I am aware of. My post was pointing to a possible reason why and the fact that it is a hardware/software problem and maybe the right person could look into. I have no reason why the BT being on and off affects the 5Ghz Wifi on this phone and not the 2.4Ghz but it does. And my old phone was a $300 Samsung A50 that I was testing this phone against in my post. I tried to find what channels the phone uses for WiFi but was unsuccessful. If you find the channel lost I would be more than happy to switch channels and see.

It ends up it is an issue with the channel. Before I bought the phone I had manually set my router to channel 153 because auto kept putting me on the same channel as my neighbor. The OnePlus will connect to channels 149 and 153 but isn't really functional. I had to select one of the UNII-1 Channels. Once I did that 5Ghz worked and is functional and stable. The sad part is the reception isn't nearly as good as my $300 Samsung. Maybe they'll improve that if they can. I'm still bewildered why turning off Bluetooth allowed channel 153 to work.

Turn on auto channel on your router. You're going to have issues unless your entire network and devices are moderated perfectly.
Auto does the job
