Customizing stock ROM - Moto G4 Play Questions & Answers

Hi guys, I'm getting bugs while trying to customize my stock ROM.
It uses to get stuck when flashing things like: Magisk, XTREMEMusic, etc.
After rooting with SuperSU fix, sometimes boot, sometimes don't. Depends on how many changes I've made in the system partition before rebooting.
Any hints on this? In custom ROMs it works perfectly, but audio quality is really horrible. I can even hear little clicks and delays in the output, not forgetting the noise and weird sounds coming from the CPU directly to the output.
Maybe because of dm-verity? If yes, how can I disable it or get a custom kernel to work in the stock ROM? Squid kernel works but gets the video card laggy and the audio output stuttered all the time.
Thanks in advance for your help.

OP2 kernel problems, considering H2OS?

Hi all, I am new here. I was referred by a friend who knows more about this than I do. I think I understand how to get fastboot and TWRP, so that is taken care of already. Now the problem with my OP2 running OxygenOS latest version, everything stock, is that it freezes up after unlocking, and the whole phone is just terribly throttled at this slow speed for a long time. All inputs are extremely delayed, and touchscreen is nearly unusable after the lag begins. There are so far two temporary fixes I found: 1) reboot phone 2)wait it out/keep unlocking until it doesn't lag. I also have been unable to make a copy of my internal storage via USB, as it gives unspecified error during copying. And lastly, the screen dims on its own sometimes at random while anything related to auto-brightness should be off. Fortunately, I was able to make a hard copy of my internal storage thru some wifi file manager apps. Now my friend pointed out that my phone's issues could be related to a bad kernel. To remedy this, he told me it would be good to flash a new kernel onto my phone. I considered changing roms to CM, but apparently a lot of functionality is lost when doing this. He told me that I could retain Oxygen OS while flashing a new kernel, but I am not sure how to do this. I came across a post in the android dev section regarding hydrogen os, and I read that it performs better than Oxygen OS, but has minor issues of its own. I am interested in flashing this rom/kernel (I am not sure which is which). Here is the link in that section of the forum I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-2/development/rom-h2os-hydrogen-os-ota-clean-stable-t3195636. I see it says that it is working on Indian OP2, and running stock rom and stock kernel. Does this mean that my north american OP2 won't be able to get this rom? Also if it is the stock kernel, does that mean it is the same kernel as the one currently installed on my phone? Anyways, if anyone knows about my phone's problems, or has a way to fix it let me hear it please. Thank you!

I had the same issue with O2. I changed kernels and the problems persisted. A also word the device and started from scratch through fastboot and the issues persisted. I ended up on hydrogen and I've never looked back. There is a flashable zip in that thread for the newest full version .11. Follow the steps wipe everything besides internal storage, flash the full v11 zip and boot the phone. After this reboot to recovery (power and volume down). Flash the gapps and super su zip if you want root. After this you should be able to add your Google account and be good to go. One thing I did was remove all Chinese apps and the stock launcher. I use trebuchet launcher from cm 12.1. Phone runs incredibly smooth now. I recently started running AK kernel as well. The oxygen version works with hydrogen. I have been averaging between 5 and 7 hours of SOT for battery with up to 8 if I'm just watching videos. Hope this helps. The ROM is a little simpler and the notifications settings are different. But you can set apps to have priority notifications and they function similar to oxygens notifications at that point. Everything is in the thread if you have any questions I'll try to help you.

Help, im stuck with no sound, the weirdest thing ever!

So let's start cuz it's a big story. So i have a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505, rooted, TRWP Custom Recovery, i had plenty ROM's on him, everytime the ROMS worked perfectly except the bugs they already had....
The last ROM i had was Optimized CM12.1 JDCTeam. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...lop/exclusive-antaresone-alucard24-s-t3066696) it worked fine....
One day, they made an update of the ROM. Everything worked fine, until a morning 2-3 days after i made the update.... my alarm clock started ringing (as it was meant to be ) but the screen wasn't turning on.
I restarted the phone...but the alarm was still ringing when the phone restarted then it restarted itself. After this self restart....the phone booted with those optimizations (like the cache was deleted.) After it booted...surprise. No sound. At all. No sound in media player, no sound from calls, no sound when recieveing calls, no sound from my mic too. Then i noticed that movies from Youtube and from my gallery were playing in slowmotion, or not playing at all.
I though it was the ROM ...so i installed other ROMs....no success....all the ROMs i've installed had the same problem. No sounds at all.
Then i found a ROM, that played the Boot animation sound but all the other sounds were still not working. So of course this means it can't be a hardware problem anymore.
So back from the start.
Then i found this ROM, an S6 port : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-develop/rom-albe95-s6-port-1-0-t3092479
This ROM specifies that i must install the latest lollipop bootloaders and modems for it to work. So i've installed the modems and the bootloader given in the ROM topic....then the ROM and surprize....the sounds were working again. But the new problem was that the SIM reading stopped working and the rom was unstable. I've tried other modems to no success for the SIM.
Other Lollipop and KK roms, thinking that the bootloader or the modem was the one that fixed the sounds, didn't work so i concluded is not the bootloader. And then i've installed this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-develop/rom-albe95-s6-port-1-0-t3092479 which at start it didn't played sounds. Then i've installed the bootloader from Albe95 S6 port post...and surprisingly sounds started to work on this ROM too. But from time to time the sounds dissapear..and i have to wait like some seconds to minutes for them to come back + the SIM still not working on this ROM . So somehow is the bootloader....but i dont get why it's working only on S6 ports..not even on MM ROM's is not working...
Can anyone help me ?
Edit : I forgot to mention that my partitions are F2FS....if this matters....

Thanks for the tip I've edited the post....it is better now ? or should i cut some paragraphs?
No, that's fine. I probably should have PMed that to you rather than post it, but it's a bit too late for that. Sorry.
Anyway, your symptoms, where it occurs erratically, could still be a hardware issue. However, I think it more likely that your internal storage "glitched", and that is causing your problems. Make sure you have a backup of your IMEI and EFS by using Wanam's EFS Backup tool. Then grab an I9505 PIT file, a stock ROM, and Odin. Use them to partition the internal storage (which will format it), and install the stock ROM. See if your sound issues are fixed throughout the ROM. If so, then replace the recovery with TWRP and install the ROM you prefer.
If it still happens even after going through this, then it's almost certainly a hardware issue.

[ROM] LineageOS 14.1 w/ SonyLOS 7.1 binaries, AOSP Kernel, Viper4Android, Apollo

Hi,
in my spare free time I compiled a new unofficial LineageOS 14.1 ROM on my beloved Phenom II system with ECC RAM and made it available to you for 90 days from
https://www.filefactory.com/file/5fqmz223n9gx/lineage-14.1-20170403-UNOFFICIAL-SonyLOS-kugo.zip
https://www.filefactory.com/file/121p40o8v8gb/lineage-14.1-20170403-UNOFFICIAL-SonyLOS-kugo.zip.md5sum
The ROM can be installed through a recovery like TWRP. I also applied some modifications, in particular:
- the SonyLOS kernel has been replaced with the Sony AOSP version which seemed to be more up to date
- using some 7.1 binaries of Sony AOSP instead of the 7.0 binaries used earlier enabling some more features (?)
- replaced the LineageOS camera with the Simple Camera app
- integrated Total Commander, Apollo music player v2, SELinux permission changer and Viper4Android apps since I need them
Consequently,
- patchlevel now is March 5th, 2017
- the fingerprint sensor now seems to be usable to unlock your device
- the FM radio works (however, you have to manually scan through the stations once because automatically finding the stations initially still does not seem to work completely)
- the selfie camera image no longer will be upside down (seemed to be an issue with the LineageOS camera app, also will work correctly with i.e. Focal if you prefer a sophisticated app instead of Simple Camera)
- I can now use Apollo again as I did on the Z1 compact with CM 12
- the bass boost and equalizer are back with Viper, you just need to invoke the SELinux changer on the rooted device and install the drivers initially through Viper itself
Thanks fly out to Sony AOSP, SonyLOS and the app providers. Feedback is also very welcome.
Regards,
jtk_de
@admin: Could we please move this thread and my previous one to the ROM section ? I'm still not allowed to post something there
Great to see you're still updating your ROM. Don't understand why you upload at filefactory (sloooow download) instead of androidfilehost for example. Will flash your ROM tomorrow.
- should I flash a stock ROM first or does it not matter which version I'm coming from
- what do I need the .md5sum file for?
- gapps are not included, right?
I tried to use androidfilehost but my uploads got interrupted so I had to stick with filefactory for now. You don't need to flash the stock ROM first, just wipe the system, cache etc. partitions in your recovery and flash the .zip.
The md5sum checksum file is there to ensure the ROM integrity and is not needed for the flash, however, TWRP optionally can read it and veryify that the ROM has been correctly downloaded and copied to your phone's storage. Gapps is not included since I use alternative apps, hence it must be installed separately.
Root access is integrated already and can be controlled via the developer settings. The only issue I experienced so far is that the volume cannot be altered yet during phone calls
I don't get viper4android to work. I install the drivers, reboot my device and then viper4android prompts me to install the drivers again. Am I doing something wrong?

You need to enable root first and start the SELinuxModeChanger installed with the ROM and set SELinux to "Permissive". Then the Viper drivers can be installed which can take quite long (a minute or so). If an Android dialog pops up because of this confirm that you would like to wait longer. Then reboot as indicated and enjoy the bass
That worked for me thank you
Hey,
many thanks for that ROM. Unfortunately i end up in a never ending boot animation. If i get in recovery (TWRP) and tell him to reboot, it tells me that no OS is installed. Any hints how this can be solved?
Thanks for any advice!

Hi!
I think there aren't any os on your device, thats wha twrp sad that... because, your systems encrypted. You could remove it. Try to flash again twrp from fastboot, than clear cache ( fastboot format cache ) and userdata ( fastboot format userdata ) from flashtools too. After that boot to twrp, than you could mount system, than flash the whole cm rom again. After that, i think it will boot correctly.

Thanks for the hint. Did what you said, but i cant mount system in recovery. It cant be selected in the list. Any other suggestions? Ok solved it. had to flash stock rom and boot.img before the steps you asked me to try. Thank you!
Thank you for putting this ROM together! There are the following problems on the OmniROM:
1. Incall speaker volume is not controllable
2. Slight incall echo on receiving side
3. Double tap to wake doesn't work
Is this still the case for your Lineage ROM?

1. Yes, the volume can't be changed during phonecalls
2. Didn't notice any echos so far
3. True
Could you try uploading to mega.nz? FileFactory is so slow
minimum Brightness
Hey!
i was just wondering if its possible to lower the minimal brightness a bit more. because minimal brightness is quite bright still. Im using this ROM for a few days now. Everything works pretty fine, but the battery life is a bit short for what i was expecting. If i dont use extreme battery saving mode its always around 24 hours. i barely do phone calls and i use it not very intensively... Highest Consumer is standby with 5%, which i think is wierd, isn´t it?
:good: Kudos. Everything seems to work well aside from the Bluetooth Audio cutting out after a few minutes. Overall I am really happy with it - happy enough that it's my daily driver.
Hi!
ROM will be better and better. Thanks.
Battery charging speed a bit slow, and if I'm using a mobil net, it's draining a little fast, plus in the evening, with wifi on, it goes down nearly 5%>. Camera is good. But, im using open cam software from google play. Fingerprint sensor working good, just a little hard to configure it. I'm using substratum theme engine, and i can theme most of the base and google apps. ( Except fingerprint sensor, with themed settings, the fingerprint setup screen cracked... but inthinknits theme problem ) And about bluethooth.. yes, it's dropping the connection after a few secs. But, if you left it, then reconnect automatically and just after that, it goes good. Until you turn it off. I used a sony sbh70 wireless headset with power amp.
And echo sound in calling. I can't hear echo, but other peoples in line, they sad it. They hear onselfs twice.. :/
If you would like it, maybe i can upload a logfile ( with matlog ) about the bluethooth problem.
Anyway, thanks foe thiese rom for our x compact.
It's good to see some other people are using the ROM and testing things that I can't test
According to my own experience battery lifetime is around 2-3 days when surfing via wi-fi, listening to music and calling from time to time. Battery charging with the Sony AC adapter coming with the phone is quite quick compared to the Z1C although the battery capacity is higher.
If I make another build I'll upload it to some faster provider though.
hello all,
give it some news there? Last entry April 2017.....
Hi all, are there some updates? I love Lineage OS
I'm wondering why there isn't an official build for the Xperia X Compact yet ? If I google "kugo lineageos" I get a hit for a stats page:
https://stats.lineageos.org/model/kugo
Which just says the page isn't rendered yet, but obviously someone has been devoting his/her time to the kugo. What could be the hold up? Same goes for the lack of other roms btw. It seems Sony is quite open towards the community but somehow this hasn't resulted in the overwhelming amount of roms I was hoping for ... It's quite underwhelming in fact. Could it be not enough (knowledgable) people own an Xperia X Compact ?

Sony gives us a sliver of what is needed for AOSP to run, camera, bluetooth, wifi, and radio band stuff all has to be manually made to work. The z3 line was the ONLY xperia line to ever get mainstream AOSP support from devs. If you bought your xperia thinking Sony's AOSP program was good you were sadly mistaken.

How to resolve problems with lags

Hello
I’m using always latest ver. of Phantom kernel on Phronesis rom.
I have big problems with lags almost all time during use phone. I think that one of source this problem is low level of ram.
So I changed LMK to very aggressive mode. After this change is better but not perfect. On default LMK I have amazing lags. I couldn’t normally use phone. After change LMK to aggressive mode I have +/-320-350 free ram.
I tried do full wipe include Internal memory and flash clean rom. This help only on the beginning. After few days again it’s the same.
Phone’s lagging. During unlock phone, when I open browser, during opening Swiftkey, Message App, Phone App and other apps.
Interesting fact is that my wife on her Note 3 has similar problems. Our phones don’t work smooth like months ago.
I don’t know how to find source of my problems. I don’t have enough dev skills. Could You help me with advices what options in Kernel Adiutor change for example.
I tried change roms and kernels but this helped only for few days.
This happens on a stock rom too?
I preferred don’t flash stock rom again because of a lot of work with loosing root, root phone again, flash recovery etc.
I tried flash other custom roms and problem came back after few days.
I wonder if there is any way to identify the source of the problem.
up..... is there any solution yet ?

No media sound after flashing custom rom (crdroid or lineage) with loud speaker, why

I have a sound issue with my moto g4 plus, it has stock oreo, the new twrp-file, and those gapps data.
I tried with lineage 15.1 and Crdroid! no matter which rom i choose, there is a sound issue:
1. when i phone with somebody, loudspeaker are working, but ONLY with those LS. Wihtout you cannot hear anything!
2. i have no mediasound with loudspeaker, only with headset!
So are you familiar with these kind of sound issues and could you help please? I sure tried to adjust the options, searched for sound configuration, no way!!!
Is it about those called "Kernel", i dont know anything about it!!
Thank you.
Did you have sounds from your loud speaker on the stock firmware?
Do you get sound if you flash LineageOS (which build are you flashing) and gapps, then reboot? Do not restore data. Which gapps are you flashing?
How are you flashing LineageOS, are you erasing data, system and cache before flashing?

Hello,
i still did not find any direct solution for this dilemma, but i think i found a less elegant way by downloading an sound-output/input App, i dont know the english word exactly.
therefore the system (.... I guess in the Kernel? or in the Stock Android? or something like this... ) has wrong settings. I had to switch output to speaker permantly. Again, for me it is not a permanent solution.
And the problem described is just a symptom, whether it is zdroid or lingeage, does not matter (+ which version i installed), the system ist not absolute stabil! Sometimes it is, and then the apps close by thereself or system is rebooting without any reason!
And beyond that i feel angry by allways carrying about cleaning app-cache because Apps (e.g. Tinder) are slowing my system extremly! I think this is not normal, allthough i understand 2 GB RAM ist not that much - but OK , i am not a gamer or a power user by means i install many apps.
I do have just a douzen apps, you know. So i just need a os which is very stable and very easy (performance first) and an hint from you all regarding the main cause (see above)?
Can you advice me, thanks Sir
