[GUIDE] unlock bl | kernel | twrp | root | restore ta - Sony Xperia XZ Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi,
After some errors I did, I decide to write a guide for new people with the Xperia XZ. First of all, I want to thanks @DGHE for his complete guide on my thread. Lot of informations here are coming from his post.
Also thank a lot to @shoey63 for his guide to restore TA partition
Let's go now
Code:
*** Disclaimer
Your waranty is now void
Do all this manipulations at your own risk.
Me, XDA and any members are not responsible if you brick your device while doing any of this manipulations
PRE-REQUISITES
ADB and FASTBOOT : https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
Xperia XZ drivers : http://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/drivers/xperia-xz/
FlashTool : http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php *optional*
UNLOCK your bootloaderBefore doing any things like rooting or flashing TWRP you have to unlock your bootloader. To begin, you have to check if your bootloader could be unlock.
Open dialer app
Type *#*#7378423#*#*
Go to Service info/Configuration
Under "Rooting status" check if "Bootloader unlock allowed " is on "yes". If not, you can leave this thread, there is no solutions for you.
Before unlock it, you have to know a things. If you unlock your bootloader, you will loose the DRM Keys (More infos here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/loss-drm-keys-t2890936) and your device will be factory reset. So you HAVE TO BACKUP YOUR TRIM AREA partition first and backup your data(like pictures, SMS etc..). For this, follow this steps :
If you are under Nougat already, you have to downgrade to Marshmallow first. The TA Backup Tool won't work under Nougat (If you're under MM, go to 6) )
Download the latest version of FlashTool from the official website : http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
Install it and install the drivers for fastmode and for your device (stituated in the driver folder of flashtool)
Go to XperiFirm (hint : http://imgur.com/cjTzitM) and choose Xperia XZ (Kagura) then F8831 or F8832. Click on "Check All" on the top right and choose a 39.0.A.1.250 firmware. Personnaly I took the FR/PT - Altice FR/PT fw. On you're right you'll see, under the Xperia XZ pic, something like this : http://imgur.com/Nb78HWT. Just click on the fw name and download it. Close it after download, and close XperiFirm. FlashTool will now unpack the new firmware, wait for the end. Then click on Flash (hint : http://imgur.com/Yp9dpVx) and choose Flashmode option. Choose your downloaded firmware on the left and check the following : http://imgur.com/6U2PRvC then click on "Flash". Last step is to put your phone in Flashmode : Power OFF then Press VOLUME DOWN while you're plug the USB cable IN, you'll see a black screen with a green LED. Don't forget to wait until FlashTool say the job is done !
Reboot, you are now on MM
Go to this thread and download the "backup-TA.zip" file : https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/universal-dirtycow-based-ta-backup-t3514236
Check USB debugging in your phone and check ADB is installed
Run BackupTA.sh or BackupTA.cmd if you're on Windows
Your partition will be saved in a file called TA-ModelNumber-Serial-Timestamp.img. BACKUP IT
Next step is ask Sony for an unlock code. Go to http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/ and follow the following steps :
Read carrefully the disclaimer
Check OEM UNLOCKING and USB Debugging under Developer Options
Choose XPERIA XZ at the bottom of the page
Enter your email address and click on the link you'll received in your inbox and follow the instructions given by Sony.
BE CAREFUL and, from now on, NEVER EVER enable the MyXperia software. It could hard brick your phone
If you want to go back to Nougat, just repeat the step into Flashtool, but with the last firmware now ( 39.2.A.0.442 )
Flash AndroPlus KernelThis kernel includes some battery improvements and DRM fixes, to recover some of the lost functions. Here is how to install it :
Upgrade to latest firmware via Flashtool
Go to the official thread and download the latest XZ_AndroPlusKernel_vXX.zip file : https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz/development/kernel-andropluskernel-v01-t3475240
Unzip the boot.img
Put your phone in bootloader mode (POWER OFF then VOL UP while you're plug the USB cable IN or adb reboot bootloader)
Flash the kernel with : fastboot flash boot boot.img
Reboot your phone
Flash TWRPLast step before rooting your XPERIA XZ !
Thanks to AndroPlus, again, go to this link and download the latest TWRP img (TWRP-3.0.2-4-kagura.img) : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B0j3VJ1Xp5N8Y1FZSmMwM1BOZDQ
Put your phone in bootloader mode
Flash the recovery with : fastboot flash recovery TWRP-3.0.2-4-kagura.img
Reboot your phone in recovery (POWER and VOLUME DOWN) to see if all is working good
ROOT your XPERIA XZFinally, you can root your phone
Download the flashable zip of SuperSU : https://download.chainfire.eu/1021/
Reboot to recovery
Flash SuperSU zip and wipe cache/dalvik
Here it is, your phone is now root !
RESTORE TA partition and RELOCK bootloader
Now, if you want to restore your TA partition and relock your Bootloader this is absolutely simple.
First of all, backup all the data you care of. Because your phone will be factory reset. Take your backuped TA partition and rename it TAbackup.img
Then, start your phone into recovery mode (TWRP)
Plug your phone with USB and check your device is recognized in recovery mode : adb devices
If it's okay, let's run this command now : adb push TAbackup.img /data/local/tmp/TAbackup.img
Then run this one : adb shell dd if=/data/local/tmp/TAbackup.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/TA
Well, your TA partition is now back. Plug your phone off and you just have to flash a new STOCK ROM via FlashTool.
Now you have your original DRM and your bootloader is automatically relock !
Flash the stock ROM you want with Flashtool and enjoy a fresh and clean install

First of all, I want to thanks @DGHE for his complete guide on my thread. Lot of informations here are coming from his post.

Stop your scene. I quote you, I didn't take any credits for what I wrote. But I make a guide as clear as possible, to help other new users. So if you're displeased by that, this is too bad. This is not like if I steal your "work" or somethings. Stop complain now

Thank you. This guide helps a lot.

Hello guys,
This might be a dumb question but, is there the problem of loosing camera quality when unlocking the bootloader as in the old xperia models? (because of the DRM keys)
Thanks!

what's the deal with myxperia? previous guides didn't have this note, and i've just turned it off under ubl romaur.
should i reflash it with cache wipes or full wipe?

So if I am going to use a custom rom after unlocking the bootloader, I don't need to do a backup with TA Backup because some CUSTOM ROMS will restore some features. Is it correct? The reason I am asking is because I am on Nougat, it will save me some steps to downgrade to MM first. Thanks in advance.

I didn't notice a big difference. Maybe because I'm using the AndroPlus's kernel, with some DRM fixes

Is the idle drain your battery ? Because it's my case too, and a lot of other users. I don't know how to fix it, according to certains review, it's a common problem due to Sony after recent upgrade (MM to Nougat)

ask on SONY cross device in the FlashTool thread there (or read it, chances are someone had the same problem and got hints how to solve it)
update/reinstall your java runtime
use another/the latest FlashTool and make sure you delete everything (esp. the directories devices and mydevices) before trying again

Hi there boys and girls ... for those interested ....
QC BQS Ana*lyzer 3.0
What is it ?
-----------
Let's call it the ultimate BQS / QC swiss knife and very special Crypto Tool (RSA Signature Calc can be used for any mobile):
BQS only :
----------
1. Load AMSS to extract files or useful infos
(EF81, E81C, EF91, SXG75, EF82, SF71, SL91, M7 or similiar ones)
Features :
Extract Infos from AMSS : USBID, Product.Nr., SVN, SwBuild, Mobiletype
Extract internal filesystem (mif, bar, sig etc. files)
Extract certificates
Extract all BMPs,GIFs,PNGs, JPGs
Extract AMSS signature bytes (if production key)
Show all file references used by mobile
2. Sim_Secure extraction/decryption (non-public)
3. Master-/Usercode/Unlock extraction and direct unlock (non-public)
All QC :
--------
1. Load Partition File to get overview about NAND/NOR structure
2. Make usage of QCs Diag Interface .... to do nice things
(Useful for any QC mobile in the world)
Standard Features :
-------------------
- Send standard diag commands or any hexadecimal command you want (database included)
- Read out all NVItems (range given)
(all that exist, more than QPST normally extracts)
- Backup and Restore all NVItems
- Read out and Dump Firmware in Memory (IRam)
- Read out complete EFS
- Switch to FTM Mode (or anything else you want)
- Get infos about phone ..... etc ..... a lot more functions
- Generate SimSecure Command to write to SimSecure using given file (may brick your phone when used without knowledge)
Bootloader / DownloadMode Features :
-------------------------------------
- Load any file to mobile at any address and execute (bootloader f.e.)
- Read out complete NAND Memory using bootloader (range given) with included MSM6250/A bootloader or any given bootloader
Usage : Take out battery, put in battery, press ON # to enter emergency mode, Execute Loader
or (with SL91,SF71 f.e.) enable FTM mode, Execute Loader
- Use any Download Mode or Bootloader Command to experiment
- Read application memory of newer Diag Ver 6 in Download Mode
- Show complete infos about used NAND after loading of Bootloader
Flasher Features :
-----------------
Flash any QC mobile (OBL Multiboot) with given bootloader
- Flash PBL (dangerous), QCSBL, QCSBL Header and Config Bits, Partition, OEMSBL, OEMSBL Header, AMSS, AMSS Header and EFS
3. Crypto Function :
-----------------
- Calculate CRC-30, SHA1 and MD4 of any file
- Bruteforce bytes to fit CRC-30 needed when qcsblhd_cfgdata.mbn was edited
- Decrypt any RSA-Message, including ASN-1 / SHA Signatures.
- Check firmware signature given Modulus and Exponent
4. Sim_Secure extraction/decryption (non-public)
5. Full Feature JTAG Interface (non-public)
Although it is still a bit buggy and things have to be speeded up ...
it is the successor of AMSS Analyzer .... but more reliable and even much faster
Planned in future :
-----------------
1. Bugfixes
2. Tooltips showing real addresses in graphical window
3. EFS2 Directory Browsing
4. Elimination of extracted files in amss.mbn for better understanding
5. Simple NVItems Editor
6. Porting NVM hack already working with JTAG to COM/USB
7. AMSS signature hack, Exploit for Signature (this will be a tough task)
8. Read out SMS / Addressbook via Diag Interface
NO UNLOCKING ! PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST. THIS PROJECT IS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY, NOT TO HARM COMPANIES FOR THEIR EFFORTS.

Flashtool Release Notes:
* 0.9.11
This version is a big split with every previous ones.
And not fully featured as previous can be.
I changed the UI framework from Swing to SWT because of a better integration with Mac UI.
Here is what is missing from previous releases :
- No multilingual UI
- No recovery installer
- No kernel installer (for 2010 devices)
- No ROM cleaner.
- Cannot Add/Edit/Remove devices.
No TA hex editor (in pro mode)
Version fully compatible with all 2013 devices (Z/ZL/Tablet Z etc etc)
Unified Bootloader unlock feature with the new BLU icon. No more unlock plugin.
As for flashing, BLU is available even without any connected device, even with
unrecognized devices.
Updated SuperSU package. Added servicemnu root hack
(works with Z/ZL for all FW up to .434)
Known working for Xperia T/V too
Added TA partition backup/restore. Using this feature, you can backup TA before unlock.
Restore TA will relock the devicee and get DRM back as well as BE2
(full complete relock). You cannot count on this feature if ever your device is
already unlocked. Missuse of this feature can brick the device
Introduction to Flashtool:
Flashtool is a flashing software that can be used to :
1. Flash original Images (Android 1.6, 2.1, 2.3 Images)
2. Root your phone
3. Install Recovery, Busybox, custom kernels
4. Clean your Rom (remove /system/apps apps of your choice)
(Be careful, unless you really know what you do, do not modify the default list.
This can make your phone stuck at the SE Logo)
5. Clear dalvik cache
6. Optimize (install of JIT v2)
(Disabled in 0.4, will readd it as a plugin for 2.1 phones only)
7. Customize (installs apps found in the custom/apps folder of the flashtool)
8. Clean uninstalled (remove any references to system apps removed in the
Clean (root needed) step)
9. Edit any text file on the device
10. Rebrand your device

This is not yours, and you are unable to support it. Moving this to General.
I'm pretty sure the devs of flashtool don't want it mirrored.

You can download a FTF for SO-0F and use flashtool to flash it, make sure to exclude the data

Root with the bootloader intact, that is amazing! Will this also work on the WiFi 4G version? That's the one I have and I don't want to mess it up.

Just scroll one line up in general forum you have the post for the SGP621 (LTE version) here
enjoy!
Oh, I missed that one, thanks!
Does it void warranty? As the DRM keys and still there and how to do you restore the DRM keys
Copy apps in SDcard.
If you already gained root access, can you copy all apps to SDcard? What apps you guys recommend? Thanks in advance.
Does this method erase all data in internal card?
Has anyone got this working with SGP612 yet? (32gb Wifi only version). I have't seen this mentioned anywhere, but it should be similar to SGP611?
I'm a bit confused at step 12 : first thing to do when following CubicU07 instructions is to follow ... lowtraxx instructions...
If we follow CubicU07 thread, we first have to back up TA, but that was step 11 of this current thread. sso I guess we should follow lowtraxx instructions, but this one specifies that it won't work for SGP611, and sends us to this thread. Back to square one, then.
My guess is that we have to follow CubicU07 thread, no matter what he says first (so, I won't follow lowtraxx instructions).
Could you please be more specific for step 12 ? Do we finally have to use Advanced stock kernel, PRFCreator, SonyRICDefeat, ... as described in CubicU07 thread (which also involves unlocking BL) ?
Thank you.
Where can I get the firmware from step 3?
It's written : install XperiFirm and download it with this software.

Success flashtool to flash Global Firmware on my G8232 ! Guide for newbiew (like me)

I got this G8232 as Gift from my USA's cousin which has disable fingerprint manager by default. This issue make me sick. I want it back by flash my phone to global firmware. But problem:
1. Flashtool newest version have no G8232 in device list. Okay if you stuck at this here is trick:
Download Device update for flastool here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xzs/how-to/flashtool-devices-update-t3601722
- Extract you will have folder G82xx
Open flashtool (newest version) wait until it loaded all script you will see there are only 94 device loaded
see pic:
how do you upload pictures
- Copy folder: G82xx to %userprofile%\.flashTool\devices (copy this to "RUN")
- Back to opening flashtool click: Device - Manage - Import. You will have 95 devices imported with notice:
"06/039/2017 21:39:25 - INFO - Loading devices database
06/039/2017 21:39:25 - INFO - Loaded 95 devices"
how do you upload pictures
2. All done ! Go ahead make your own ftf firmware by xperifirm and flash your phone.
3. While flashing you may got notice:
06/040/2017 21:40:46 - INFO - No matching loader found
06/040/2017 21:40:46 - WARN - No loader found or set manually. Skipping loader
And flashtool will popup using 41.fsc click YES then all go through.... (if not restart your PC reinstall flashtool drivers and restart over again)
how do you upload pictures
Bravo now my G8232 fingerprint manager is back ! Big thanks everybody !
Thanks, which FW did you use?
Thanks for the quick and easy guide. Very helpful and I have successfully created an FTF file as a test. Just curious which firmware you used? I'm looking for something that has as little bloat as possible but understand each variant will come with some.
Example, did you use the customized SG, HK, etc. release?
Thanks in advance!

Another user in the patch thread solved it. You have to copy the G82XX patch to the device folder to overwrite the files and then press export first before importing the folder in flashtool.
"Delete that folder add the new folder then click export and then import the new folder and tadaa worked for me"
Hi guys. I have a question. So I have the US dual sim version as well. If I flash to global firmware do I lose my DRM keys for the camera?
Basically all I want to do is use global firmware to get fingerprint reader working. I don't really care for rooting it. I want to keep my camera DRM working. I tried reading a guide but it only shows me how to root. But I don't want to root.
How to video
