S7 Edge with 7.0 - lacking Power Notification Controls and screen wake notifications - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Why the hells samsung removed System UI tuner? Or it's me that cannot find this controls outside?
Now we cannot control the notifications properly... with the levels. Whatsapp for ex gives annoying previews over each and every message and now only exist 2 options on notifications or put it silently (no preview + no sound) or preview+ sound... what a stupid move.
Also each notification wakes the screen... any way to turn this off?

If this is true, I'll happily skip the nougat update

Yeah but you see. Like thread starter mentioned. If enable show silently ur apps will completely silence. No notification sound and vibrate. He just want to disable the heads up notification only. Not the sound. Marshmallow seeting is better because they separate it.

ive been having issues with this as well ever since i bought my S7 Edge, coming from Nexus 6 i really miss the advance notification control inside AOSP. anyway to enable it in s7 nougat roms?
thanks

Getting rid of heads up notifications while phone is unlocked?

I'm not sure if this is an LG or Nougat thing, but it's seriously annoying. Whenever I use the phone and I get a notification of any kind, it pops down from the status bar (why can't it just go straight to the 2nd screen???) and persists for a few seconds unless I action it or dismiss.
Is there a setting within notifications or apps themselves to make them go straight to the 2nd screen?

Mine pop into the 2nd screen. What app is causing it? I know Textra was doing that until I disabled the pop up notification

Snapchat and Whatsapp are examples. What sort of notification settings do you have? Are you silencing any apps?

Not silencing anything, I just adjusted the Textra to not show the floating reply.
I don't use Whatsapp so can't speak to any settings in there and my Snapchat I have set to Vibrate only(turned wake screen off). Don't get a lot of Snapchat chats so never noticed if its a pop up notification or not

Weird - I found out that "Silencing" notifications is the only way to get them to not pop up... but then I don't get a vibrate.
System UI is a "hidden" feature of Nougat that LG decided to axe, which is extremely frustrating because it has the EXACT functionality someone needs to have full control over their notifications.

Yeah I want that system UI because in it you can do percent in battery notification so it's not next to the battery
It actually started with Marshmallow and was pretty popular due to the simple tweaks it can do that everyone wants. Unfortunately it seems to be more of a carrier issue with disabling it. Regardless, disabling peeking should be a basic option in settings from day 1. Not a super hidden feature in Andriod M and a above with no guarantee of staying. Textra is nice enough to have its own setting. Why other apps do not is baffling.
Someone finding a way to get to the System UI tuner settings would be amazing. As it is now there doesn't seem to be a way to turn off ONLY peeking/heads up notifications that I have been able to find. Maybe HeadsOff will be compatible with N before long.
I can't reply to any notifications in my notifications panel. How do I turn it back on?

new notification look

Does anyone know how to get the new notification look? Mine is still just the regular box notification. I'm talking about the heads up pop up notification btw

Maybe im being silly but that looks like an App dependent notification - rather than a system handled
EG: facebook messenger - allows notification overridding screen - maybe thats just a text app that does have this permision in place
Re this i think in notification settings - in the more advanced section you can allow an app to override screen with notifications - tho i know in the new version od android they are eliminating this functionality

While i understand that, what i dont understand is why his has it and others but mine and others dont. He set his up sat next to me and didnt install anything
---------- Post added at 10:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:23 AM ----------
Ive figured it out:
Pull down quick settings and press edge lighting, its the second page of quick settings. Then in settings go to > Display > EdgeScreen, make sure Edge Lighting is toggled on, Then click on it and press Manage Notifications and choose which apps you want this way
Just like @xPrometheus mentioned

Thank you as well!
I spent 2 hours yesterday looking for tutorials and videos about that notification style and couldn't find anything. The default messaging app has that notification. I actually ditched Textra just because of that, until I find a way to to have it with it. I love that notification style, I really wish it could be enabled for all apps.
"Settings -> Display -> Edge Screen -> Edge Lighting" had been enabled since I got the phone and it's not the same thing as https://giphy.com/gifs/3o7btVlUtbdelu4L4I/html5
Or maybe it is, but the only application I could find that has that lightning effect is the default messaging app. Facebook doesn't have it, Textra doesn't have it, Messenger doesn't have it, SnapChat doesn't have it, and the list goes on and on..

I tried this, but I don't get any notification from apps like Gmail or Instagram. As a matter of fact I only see the small icon appear in the top left corner of the screen from them, and no pop-up or preview whatsoever. Am I the only one?
Only works on SMS for me it seems.
Shouldn't those apps give us some sort of preview like the iPhone does? I thought I used to have them on my old Galaxy S7 Edge.. but I might be wrong and got used to the iPhone now??
I got this working:
First disable notification for all apps you want to show with new notif style
in settings > notification
install SystemUI Tuner from playstore,
then in miscellaneous > enable Heads-Up Notifications.
scroll down and enable Power Notification controls.
now go back to notification setting, tap the app then slide to level 4 or 5 (peek enable)
the notification for the app should be in new style now (edge lighting enabled)
Now the trick so it also works with screen off:
install from playstore: Lightflow legacy
the key is the setting in lightflow must enable "Switch screen on" in the app setting
then you will have edge lighting notif for other apps too.
Mine works with Gmail & telegram & anything that's set up in lightflow.

How can I do that?
On the notification screen, select the item you want to disable and slide slightly to the left or right.
You will reveal a settings button.
Click on settings, diable notifications and you are done.

Android Oreo 8.0.0 Heads Up notifications.

Hi, i've using oficial Oreo for a day now, and i have the same problem that in the previews, the annoying heads up notifications. I can't find the way to disable them in the settings, i did it through adb comands and use the floatify app but it have a problem with de notification bar, it overlap and it's annoying as well, i tried some other similar apps but they aren't optimiced for Oreo, do anyone of you know how to add a few seconds to the stock heads up? or an app that doesn't have so many problems, or i just have to wait a while?
in android 7 there was level notification and it was very useful but i didn't find it now in android Oreo !!
i hope someone help

When you say "heads up notification", are you referring to peeking where there's a short pop up message over the status bar? For example, every time I get a message on Facebook Messenger, there's peeking. If so, that frustrated me as well and I loved it when I could turn if off with Nougat's Power Notifications controls.
I finally found a way to disable peeking; I had to turn off sound by going to Facebook Messenger's App Info - App Notification - disable [Allow Sound]. I already use Lightflow to customize sounds/vibrations from my Nougat days. Once I disabled [Allow Sound], peeking stopped but I could still hear sound/vibration through my customization in Lightflow.
Problem solved for me.
Feel disgusting to heads up notification too.
try "Gaming Do Not Disturb"
I open it all the time to ban heads up notification
Here is how to set notification on oreo. go to setting > app And notification > then select your app for which you want to turn off or reduce importance of notification. If you select preference urgent / high / medium and low. then low means no sound no visual notification and urgent mean sound and popup.
Apps like telegram: it doesn't work properly, I have to do this for each conversation and group and that's annoying. any other tips? and the thing is it does revert back to urgent after few notifications

stop heads up notification

hello!
any one of you has tried this method?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/howto-4-to-disable-heads-notifications-t3197660
it has worked for me since s7, s8 and note 8...
thanks
You can eliminate almost all heads up notifications by going into the settings application, then click Apps, click Gmail, click Notifications, change all settings to "Make sound."
Repeat this for any app you do not want heads up notifications for...
Hope this helps!
What's a heads-up notification? The pop up banner ?

you are right!!!
in note 8 there was not this option!!!
Sounds like this is what I made another post about, just didn't see this one as I was looking in Q&A.
Why are the banner notifications so insanely disruptive on the Note 9 vs the Note 8? It's almost insane how different it is.
Edit: thanks to this post, think I found the setting driving me mad!
I still have the note 8 and i didnt have to do anything crazy to disable notifications for popping up. Its a feature in the android os that you can set for each app. Ive not had any pop up or heads up banners for a long time on the note 8 and the same for the 9
You can use system ui tuner from playstore there can you disable it
adb command no root needed.
adb shell settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0
That is for system wide
Note: the adb method no longer works for UI 2.1 and the adb hack isn't needed any longer. It would still be nice to apply a global default with this hack rather than changing each app individually. It's now under each apps notification settings, under "Message notifications" and is called "Show as Pop-up".
