Debloating the Huawei Ascend XT - Huawei Ascend XT Questions & Answers

Let's continue our debloating discussion of the Huawei Ascend XT which we started in thread titled "Huawei Ascend XT H1611"
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/-t3507933 in this thread now please .

So i'm guessing there's some kind of protection that prevents full root access or something else, thanks to huawei, that prevents app removal. I've tried everything from the above thread. Nothing worked for me. Need to remove ATT/Huawei bloat apps, not freeze/disable.

When I look at the AT&T system and other preinstalled potential bloatware, I don't see how deleting them is going to amount to any significant internal storage free space. I'm guessing 0.5. GB.
If someone is planning to do maximum level debloating by deletion vs freezing/disabling, please post the free internal storage before and after the lobotomy . Thanks!

Usually when i do it with other brands i get a significant amount of space. I remove not only apps but processes as well. Maybe huawei UI takes up a lot of space. I still want to remove bloatware just in case.

In my mind, there are various levels of debloating.
Level 1: Freeze/disable apps with phone app manager. You can clear data too if you are sure you won't need the current app settings/data.
Level 2: Uninstall user apps with phone app manager.
Level 3: Use rooted debloating tools to freeze/disable system or use apps which could not be done in level 1 or 2. You can still take an OTA update up to this level and may have to unfreeze any frozen apps first.
Level 4: Use root debloating tool to uninstall system or user apps you positively don't need and know from previous levels or knowledge is not required. This will free up some space on the partition(s) that the app uses. Depending on what apps you get rid of you won't be able to take an OTA in this state.
I need to read this over later and maybe make so changes - so work in progress .

I have been able to remove some of the apps. Like Google Drive, Drive Mode, Amazon (not Kindel), and a few other things. I'm thinking of removing Music and messages to replace it with better apps.

Only one level for me - remove all useless junk including processes. OTA updates don't work with root anyway.

How? I can't remove any. Some just don't get removed, some detected as system app. Shouldn't matter with proper root.

Yeah, I'm not done, like I said.
You can take an OTA with systemless root, by unrooting first, proved you didn't go to Level 4!
Depending on what each person wants to do, they can go straight for the kill/Level 4.

Very few apps get disabled instead of uninstalled. The rest are system files, even google crap. Very unusual. Never had a rooted phone where i couldn't get rid of crap.

Yes i tried titanium, rom toolbox, root uninstaller. granted permission. Tried everything discussed in the original thread and even reflashed reinstalled supersu.

I was able to uninstall the stock launcher. I would have kept it but while I'm running Nova Launcher Prime the stock launcher ate a lot of ram. I've gained around a GB in free space with everything I removed. My phone ram is a lot better now as well.
I also uninstalled Music App and replaced it with a better one.

I have no clue man I wish I could help you. The only apps I haven't been able to uninstall are the AT&T apps, Uber, directv, and YP and stock keyboard. I wish I could remove the keyboard it takes up 250mb of space and ram even while using Gboard.

dabadguycr,
Did you gain 1GB internal storage space? What did you delete or what do you have left ?

Finally removed some apps with titanium. Removed SIM toolkit. Now need to run in airplane mode or else get annoying messages in notification bar. I'd like to get it back. Possible to extract and post the apk?

Huh to the last sentence .

Beaware OTA fails if you remove system apps, update runs intergity checks against previous installed to updated versions. And if it is gone OTA fails. Trust me been modding phones many years.
---------- Post added at 04:28 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:23 AM ----------
Also OTA sometimes updates the bootstrap image removing unlocked bootloader and even patching the kernel. And changlogs are usually not readily available with OTA's. Never used them after modding in my own opinion.

You can factory restore the phone, hold down the vol +/- and power on device. You will see the cord symbol. The Huawei software will restore it. Like the restore in iTunes software. It's even possible to get an full system image if someone wants to look through services running in Windows background and find the temp location where the file is cache to. Just takes someone who wants to tackle this easiest way to make a flashable zip for TWRP. Surprisingly no one has said anything. Recovery image has to be downloaded via Huawei software then cache to temp folder. There is where it can be captured and copied before it is removed by recovery process.
Like a slide of hand?

Restoring back to factory stock should be a piece of cake using TWRP for those who made a full TWRP backup of their phonez before rooting as the instructions suggested .

[Q] Amazon app .trying to update from Google Market

I have this issue with apps purchased from Amazon app market. For some reason showing up as Google market apps.. When they try to update i get a error message saying denied.. Then after a few times i get a message from google saying i have a pirated app on my tablet. I have done everything from contacting google and amazon. Both tell me how to re install the app markets fix cache and so on..
as well as tried the fixed in Titanium backup.
I have also wiped my tablet formats and wipe menue in cwm.. flashed totally diffrent rom Told google in initail setup to not restore or backup my data and so on.. next day its back. the app that is causing the most trouble is QUICK OFICE
Thanks in advance.
YES I know this should prob be in the general section not a tablet spacific forum.. but you guys know me and will take me more serious that its not a user error..Well i dont think ..
Erica Renee...
I just updated mine last week and now find that I can't install programs from non-android market sources. I have tried installing Amazon Market, with not luck. What is strange, is that when I get to the screen that says accept permissions, the install button won't activate, only the cancel button works. I tried installing another non-android app with the same situation. Yes, I clicked on unknown sources first.
Is this something that Android (Google) is trying to monopolize? Not happy about this, as one of my most used apps, which requires a recurring subscription, has been removed from the Android Market, and now I can't update it!!
Hey Erica,
As far as I understand the apps from amazon are not identical to those from the market place. I think since the market is more commonly used, apps are submitted there first and updated by the developers as frequently as they want. With Amazon, the apps must be submitted to be approved. They approve the updated apps (or not potentially) which is why they are so far behind the same apps in the market place.
I think they are also technically different apps since they must inject some code that forces that app to require that the amazon market place be installed before you able to run the app (if you remove the amazon marketplace app you can't run an app installed from amazon). I doubt that would affect the upgrade of an app, but I could see why google's marketplace would say it was not a legit app.
Erica. it happens when you wipe your data partition and then restore the app with TB. Somewhere in there android market will think its one of its apps and tag it. The only way to prevent this from happening is by re-downloading the app from Amazon after a data partition wipe and then restoring the data only with TB. I know this sucks but its a flaw with either TB or the way the market scans and registers your apps. That is why I usually never wipe my data partition when I switch roms. Its such a pain to get everything set up again.

But I've seen this happen and I still use stock on my phone and tab. I have read others complain of this issue on amazon's forums and I was pretty sure these were people who didn't use a custom rom (but can't be sure about that though, maybe they weren't admitting it since it was on amazon's forums)

I did check unknown sources first. The strange thing is, I was able to download the same apps on my droid bionic, but not on my a500.
I had that issue a while back and un-installing/re-DLing/re-installing the Amazon app apk. fixed it for me. But I'm guessing you have already tried that. What version of market are you using? I had an issue with the newest version of market for a bit where it would make certain games/apps FC on me. Had to revert back to the version that came on the tab to get everything working again. Not really like your issue, but from what I was told at that point, the new market can cause all sorts of wonkiness with stuff. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Insufficient Storage Space?

So I have a 16GB nexus 4 and I have about 8GB left, and I was updating ingress and it says I don't have sufficient storage?! I don't have the patience or time to deal with this, especially since my iPads iCloud account got ****ed all of 5 seconds before I tried to update ingress (coincidence?). I uninstalled it and tried reinstalling it, and then tried restoring it from carbon, which didnt even install the app even though I have it set to back up .apks.... Ugh I'm pissed righ now, someone help me?
I have Franco.Kernel and CM if that's of any help

Clear the cache in recovery and reboot, that should fix it.

Alright, I just solved it by going into /data/app-libs and deleting the ingress folders... Seems to have fixed the issue
Try clearing both the cache and dalvik cache in recovery, maybe that helps.

clearing both the cache and dalvik cache in recovery and reboot, remove the /data/app sub directory etc all doesn't work for my N4. :crying:
Normally you shouldn't just arbitrarily delete folders.
It helps to do something as simple as going into Settings -> Apps -> All, then sorting by size to see what apps are hogging the most (since they usually include /sdcard storage attributed to them).
I have slot of free space from the storage info, is it correct?
So it should be a bug on nexus 4?

It would take repartitioning to do so. If you didn't already know that, and considering the nature of the device and how easy it is to brick it permanently, you shouldn't even mess with it.
My question to you is...
Why on earth do you have 800+MB of apps installed in the system directory?! Aside from a few Google apps, you shouldn't explicitly install anything to your system directory. You're just asking for problems.

Actually, Out of the 872MB on "system" partition, About 760MB are occupied by the system rom (Maybe a bit less if you're on kinology), Which leaves us with about 100MB give or take for applications, Which is STILL plenty for system apps, So let me rephrase your question, Why on earth do you have 100+MB of apps installed in the system directory?!
But anyway, to answer wing-zero's question, There is no way you can add to that space, You'll have to make do with what you have, Maybe you can remove some of amazon's bloatware? But be very careful what remove.
Another solution would be to install kinology rom, It's modified to allow you to normally install any application that would otherwise be required to be put in System/App to work.

Ok I'll admit, my number may have been a "bit" exaggerated, but that doesn't change the fact that installing apps (other than Google's apps of course) to the system directory is risky business. The system directory is on it's own partition and user apps are installed to a partition separate from that for good reason.
AFAIK, the userdata and system partitions don't contain signed headers so they could be repartitioned relatively safely, ASSUMING YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. I'm guessing from the OP's question, that he/she doesn't, and that option should be avoided altogether.
I think it's probably best to find out why so much of the system partition is being used before deciding on an appropriate solution.
thanks for replying everyone. I got titanium backup which allows me to freeze apps to see if it could hurt it. I put a few apps, like chrome and few others as system apps. pretty things i dont want to accidentally uninstall that i need. But I did remove other stuff I put in as system apps. Thanks guys. [Q] Can't install apk anymore

I rooted my nook with nookmanager but without the Amazon market as I only wanted a couple of packages. I installed kindle and aldiko by copying the apks onto the sd card and then installed them. As far as I can remember I just long pressed them in relaunch and an option popped up to install and I clicked 'yes'. Both installed and ran with no problem.
I decided I wanted to try a different kindle package. I copied it onto the sd card as before. I then uninstalled the previous one by long pressing it in the relaunch app list and selecting uninstall. However, now when I long press the new kindle apk I get a long list of option, eg rename, move, copy, properties etc but no install option.
I haven't changed much since I rooted and installed the other packages and can't think of anything I have done that would disable the ability to install as before although I suspect it is probably something simple.
Has anyone any ideas what could have changed and how I can fix it so that I can install an apk again?
thanks

Many thanks. I guessed it would be something simple.
It is amazing that I managed it twice without any problem and then managed to try everything but the correct method.:silly:

Install "SERVICES COMMANDER ANDROID"?

Randomly a install screen pops up. It says it's SERVICES COMMANDER ANDROID.
It wants to:
Read phone status/identity
Approcimate location
Modify/delete content on sd-card
Add or remove accounts
find accoutns on device
read Google service configuration
use accounts on the device
-
Device Access:
Full network access
View network connections
Close other apps
Retreive running apps
run at startup
Prevent phone from sleeping.
What's this?
OK so I've figured out that the install popups everytime I install an app from Google Play. I've deactivated Unkown Sources so I won't install it by mistake.
But does anyone know what this is?
Uninstall "Simple MP3 Downloader".
Beware "service commander android" request
I've also experienced this instal request and after a bit of digging found a gaggle of Germans who caught the program and stripped it down. The Google translation was rough as guts. They speculate over ad ware but after accepting the programs request seemed to experience loss of contacts and Google play account. They couldn't argue it out because it lead them off track about viruses and android. I've phoned Google and emailed them what I found (they've never heard of it). To an unsuspecting person it passes as some kind of system update with the android logo.
Sorry guys, can't post link but if you Google 'service commander android 'you'll find their forum a couple pages in.
PS. The only app installed on my Teca U6 4.4.2 on their list of recent apps is an tu tu benchmark.

I looked in the log. Uninstall the simple mp3 downloader and the message is gone.
I have gotten the install request twice, and just clicked cancel both times.
I do not have simple mp3 downloader installed, at least its not listed under settings/apps or in Titanium Backup.
Unless its listed under one of the com.sec.android... listings?
@skoberdie I can't seem to find the German post, could you copy the list of programs over here.
Ohhh, you are probably talking about the list of recent apps on Google Play.
The only apps I have listed are Google Maps and QuickEdit Text Editor.

I don't know with what app is linked, but you can find this apk file in /storage/sdcard0/.data, its ".apk" (on my S3 is that path)
I was getting the install popup on my SGS3, I uninstalled Folder Player by Peter Shashkin .
Folder Player is the only app I uninstalled and have not had the popup since.
That said, I also had Folder Player installed on my Lenovo S6000-F and I was not getting the install popup on it.

once in a while I also get a mysterious install screen. First it was for this now it's for some game.
I cancel it each time.
in the picture it says its from com.vending.andoid-1.apk which is the play store from what I can tell. Either this a virus or a fake play store apk or google is messing with us.
