Lost Note 7, full refund - T-Mobile Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Well. Last week i lost my phone. I contacted T-Mobile and told them and to my surprise, they refunded the down payment, taxes, and all of the monthly installments i paid on the note 7 and allowed me to choose a new device (down payment and taxes down of course) so i chose the LGV20. Just information for you guys. If you lose your note 7 or its stolen you might be able to get refunded and a new phone.

Paying googles Equiptment Recover Fee, how??

Ok i am just going to stay on my EM+ without the discount but I made the mistake of choosing the subsidy by opening a new line.
anyone know if I can just cancel that new line that I opened and just pay the other 350.00 off. i know google has the equipment recovery fee so how does that get charged?
Unfortunately since these phones are purchased through a "3rd party" (i.e. Google rather than directly from T-Mobile) they get you coming and going. Two different parties have a piece of you now. Google charges a fee because the subsidy they would have gotten for your contract gets pulled and they need to recoup the money. T-Mobile then charges a cancellation fee as a standard practice for you walking out on all that revenue you had "promised" them in the contract. I think it is $350 to Google and another $200 to T-Mobile.
If you are within 14 days (or 30 days in California) then you can return it and buy an unsubsidized full price version. You'll get your money back and won't be charged any subsidy recovery fees or contract cancellation fees, but you will have to pay for cell phone usage during the time you had it.
Also, you can always try to talk to T-Mobile and they may be able to waive the cancellation fee to convert your EM contract into an EM+ account without you having to go through the entire process. It would still trigger Google's "equipment recover fees", and it would again help if you were within the "buyer's remorse" time frame, but it might avoid having to do the whole return and configure a new phone process. In either case it will depend a lot on your begging^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hnegotiation skills...
I signed up yesterday so cant I just cancel that line from t-mobile with no charge then just pay google the other 350?
If you signed up yesterday then just return the phone. You have 14 days to do that (30 in California) for a full refund minus $45. Do that and then re-order without a subsidy. It's cheaper.
Yea that was my original plan but wouldnt it technically be the same price without all the wait?
I paid $180.00 then decided i didnt want the contract so cancel that and pay google the $350.00 to make it $530.00 total.
EDIT- I should clarify I already have the EM+ plan and added a line. I want to keep the EM+. Just cancel the new line I opened.
Just cancel your new tmo plan - there will be no charge from them since you signed up yesterday. Once google catches that you cancelled and didn't return the phone I would imagine they would just charge you the $350 on the credit card you used originally to pay.
thats what I was thinking as well. I sure wish google had a phone center set up for the nexus so I could just call and have them take it out now. So four weeks down the road I get a charge.
Do you guys think that it would be the 14days that you have to return it. After the 14 days if they check and see its canceled would they charge me then?
I purchased on subsidy and then switched to the EM+ and haven't yet been charged, and I got it on the first day. So, I'm not exactly sure when they will charge the remainder.
yikes! hopefully they do it in a reasonable time frame. guess I will just be sure i have that 350.00 in there at all times.
That was a few days over 14 for you. I was sure it would at least come out by then.
Maybe because you didnt actually cancel your contract you found some sort of loophole?
Ok so I Spoke to a t-mobile rep and said that you have to return the phone to google first, then I can cancel the contract. Darn, looks like im going to have to do it the long way, ship back and wait then buy unsubsidized :-(

The Google terms say that "this is just an equipment recovery fee" or something like that and go on to say "your provider may also charge you a cancellation fee". Check on that because the $350 is just what you pay Google, but T-Mobile can also charge you.
It may be that they don't, the Google terms don't say that they definitely will, they just say that their charge is independent of any cancellation charges, so don't assume that the $350 is the only charge you might pay...

well its a new line so I can cancel within 14 days with no charge. I discussed this with a Rep and I pretty much just have to send it back, cancel the added account, get my refund and then buy it unsubsidized so I can stay on my EM+ plan.
Call T-mobile and cancel the line
Since Google sold you the phone, just call T-mobile and cancel the line. If they say that you have to send the phone back just tell them you already returned it to Google. ( normally when you buy a phone from a t-mobile store with the subsidy and contract, you have to return the phone before you can cancel the account). Because the handset return is not going through T-Mobile they have no way of tracking the return to Google.
I am not sure how long it will take Google to charge your account, I would assume it will be fairly quickly after the 14 days or cancellation but it could be months. If Google is waiting on T-Mobile to pay them the commission for activating your new line it could be months. T-Mobile commissions are paid to 3rd party dealers a month behind. Google gets paid for your activation in February if you activated in January. Because of that it may take a while before you get charged for not keeping the new line. This is also why you have to keep the new line for 120 days, that is the charge back period for 3rd party dealers with T-Mobile (if you cancel within 120 days, Google looses the money from T-Mobile)
Just to clarify... if you cancel a new T-mobile line within the first 120 days, Google will charge their ERF. They have your credit card on file and you agreed to letting them charge it again if you cancel.

Getting The Best Deals From T-mobile:

So i just Upgrade 2 of my lines to get the Vibrant. However 1 line still had 4 months of remaining service and the 2nd line had about 8 months of remaining Service.
I'm sure most people are paying $30 Data Plan. But i was offered to pay $24.99 and given full discounts.
I Called T-Mobile and transferred over to the Loyalty Department. I have Been with them since 2006.
The Loyalty Department offered me the phone for the line with 8 months remaining for $249.99 with $50 in mail Rebate. however he instead credited my account with
$50 giving me less work so i don't have to fill any rebate forms. So in Reality I'm Paying $200 For the Vibrant + $7 for 3-Day Select Shipping= $207
The Second Line, they offered me the Phone for $230 + tax and Everything Else. But With the $24.99 Data Plan opposed to buying it online which costed me $202 with $30 data plan. in the long Run. the $230 was worth it..
I got the installment Plan to pay in 4 months, so im paying the first month $70 and the remaining $40....
Whats the point..... Well For better Deals, get in touch with the Loyalty Department. If your contract is up, then you can say you want to end the contract and that way youll get even better deals.... Regular T-mobile Reps were giving me the phone for $287 +... i think i got a good Deal? Doncha Think?
I didn't do any of that. I simply asked about getting new phones for me and my wife. $25 a month per phone starting in September. Tmobile always makes me good offers whether I ask for it or not.
buy one get one free
My contract had 5 month left on it and I simply went to the TMobile store on the launch date (7/15) and told them i would like to upgrade my line at $199 ($249 - $50 rebate) and also add my son to my account. The sales person told me they can't offer me the upgrade price. I asked her to call TMobile customer service and get an approval for the upgrade price which she was able to do. Then I asked her if they can offer me buy-one get one free smart phone promotion so I can add my son (new account) to my plan. I was offered to get the MyTouch slid for free ($100 then $100 rebate). I jokingly said if she was able to give me the Vibrant for free then i would add the line. To my surprise, she was able to do it. Basically, i paid $200 for 2 Vibrant phones.
I love TMobile.

We got the same deal on our family plan, upgrading from two T-Mobile G1s that had about 6 and 11 months left on the contract.
Last time I upgraded was 2 months after the MyTouch 3G release, so I know I still had some time to go. I upgraded over the internet, and don't ask me how the phone was $165 for me, I have another line on my account that's been out of contract for quite a few months and on that line the phone was $400 something, as it was on the other 3 lines on the account. I don't know what was going on, neither do I care, all I know is that I got my vibrant for $165

I meant like if I have a light leakage and I need to get my phone replaced and I'm not in the 30 days
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Try going to a Sprint store and showing them the phone. They may give you a replacement even if you don't have insurance. I just got my replacement handset yesterday. I brought my phone in on Monday due to water stains on the screen when I installed a screen protector. I was told it wouldn't be covered, but I decided to try my local Sprint store anyways. I showed the guy working there and told him I didn't have insurance, but he ordered me a replacement and all I had to do was pay the $35 "repair fee" even though he never even opened the phone.
Would they let me get a different phone
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Maybe. They gave me a different phone. I just unrooted before I gave them back my old phone.

Sorry , tour question originally was very unspecified . Ok so yes as it has been stated take it to a sprint store, but if you don't like what they say then just go to another because there is no consistency among stores.
Take it to a sprint store, make sure the phone is NOT rooted. Tell them the problem, which if it is light leakage, thats a hardware problem, and is covered under the 1 year warranty. If they try to tell you anything different, ask to talk to a manager, and tell them you want it replaced under the 1 year warranty.
No, you will not get a different model phone. Yes, you may get a refurb evo, actually there is a 95% chance you will get a refurb.

*** Attention - Walmart price match to best buy. VZW NOTE 4 ***

Saw in Walmart weekly ad page 32 that note 4 was 268, instead of 299. Weekly special from Nov 2 to 8.
I printed out the page, went to best buy and performed successful price match.
I preordered black note 4 verizon via best buy, traded in phone for 200 bucks credit, picked it up on 10/23 when it was released. Today 11/5 is last day of 14 day return policy.
Went to customer service, they were baffled and tried to come up with many reasons why it's against policy. Showed me a policy guide which said it can not price match online retailers for phones. I refuted as walmart is brick and mortar store and they sent me to best buy Mobile department (i thibk they were lazy). They called my local Walmart and confirmed they had it in stock and it was 268. Price drop guarantee worked and cha ching! 35 bucks extra to spend on accessories
I actually got a best buy email today for earning cash for a rewards member, 5 bucks. But they wouldn't let me apply it for previous orders, boo, couldn't get too greedy.
Regardless, happy man I am!
Enjoy and good luck! Every penny counts, it did take 15 mins extra of my time.
Oops, didn't see that there was another post about this, enjoy!
We generally don't price match mobile phones unless it is a price match of the carrier, since our prices are set in conjunction with each carrier. If we price match another store, we don't get refunded accordingly by the carrier and lose the difference between what our price is and whatever the price is that was matched.
WalMart and other stores usually have different contracts and stuff that aren't the same as what ours are and that's probably why there was so much confusion.
You got lucky in that they gave you the discount though! We almost never ever ever price match over here on mobile phones. :good:

Sprint SCAM!!

So, I bought my Note7, returned it, got the replacement Note7, then returned it and then reactivated my old S6.
What I didn't do, is actually look at my bill until recently as I use Autopay and rarely look at my bill.
So here's what actually happened:
1) Note 7 (#1) activated, $30 activation charge
2) Note 7 (#2) activated, $30 activation charge
3) S6 reactivated, $30 activation charge
Holy crap! $90 in activation charges and I'm back to my original phone!!!
Please check your Sprint bill. Call them, get the money back. I wasted 1 hour of my life on the phone with Sprint Customer "Service" getting this reversed.
Then, they lied and tried to say that the credit that Samsung is paying us actually covers the Sprint fees. Lies!!!
I wonder how many thousands of people just haven't bother to check their bills. Don't get scammed by Sprint. Don't let them get away with this.
Please post this on your social media account!
Thank you.
I had to call them to refund my activation fee.. took like 25min asking for refund due to recall and finally they did but they said they don't refund activation fees. I returned my note so only got 1 activation fee
Sent from my SM-N920P using XDA-Developers mobile app
I was wondering all that also. Was flying over the weekend, so had to get the note 3, yes I still have the note 3 still a great phone, and strolled into the store I visit all the time, send people there, and they reactivated the note 3, waived the fees and all is good. Now that I am back home, will be going back to the store, reactivate the N7 and look at the V20. Problem with V20 is that the camera is not getting good reviews. I have been told both my N3 and N7 take great pics. I hate to loose that......
Well...
During this whole fiasco I have activated:
Two Note7s, returned
The two replacement Note7s
Next I bought an LG G5 as an interim phone and quickly remembered why I switched to Samsung once LG launched the G3 (G2 was one of my favorite phones BTW)
Reactivated my Note7
Finally gave back my Note7 for a s7 Edge
Then swapped the other Note7 for another s7 Edge
And wasn't charged an activation fee once.
Perhaps cause ive bought all these outside of contract i dunno....
So take that social media!
Good day Mr. Legere
