Root XT1625 - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Is there a way to root Moto G4 XT1625 Amazon Edition? with Kingroot or something like that?
someone already tried kingroot? at least to temp root and install Adaway, remove bloatware and stuff

That's not true. It worked just fine for me. I just followed Motorola's instructions.

You'll need a motorola account. The page I just posted will ask you to create one.

Oh wait, Amazon Edition? Well, beats me, then. You can try, I guess. Mine's an XT1625, anyway.

Apparently there are some Amazon editions that will allow you to unlock and others that won't I do not know the difference between the two since I have the regular version. All you can do is check on the Motorola website and try to get an unlock code for your phone. If they give you one you are in luck, otherwise trying the methods on this site to unlock it has proven to be a bad idea for some who have bricked their phones.

Root

I have a Droid Maxx, and Razr Maxx HD and perhaps some beer cash for the answer to root...
I was thinking flashing twrp, then let it root, or am i way off or require an unlocked bootloader? I tried sunshine, but no go as it requires root.
So if i understand, you can get root without an unlocked bootloader, or is an unlocked bootloader a prerequisite of root? I am thinking not, but i am a Windows/SharePoint guy and pretty dumb to linux...

You need an unlocked bootloader to flash TWRP (which flashes SuperSU). There is no known root method available yet because the phone has only been out for about 8 hours.
The Sunshine team has apparently said they will not be supporting Motorola devices for 4.4.4 in their 3.0 release, only HTC, so unlikely it will work there.

Yeah, I didn't think I'd need root but the dpi on this thing is just way too high. For being such a great display it's hindered by the scaling. Easily fixed with root though!!
Found this on some Chinese site. If I had a backup phone I'd try it. But I don't. So can't risk bricking. Anyone else want to take a leap of faith? Ummm... Won't let me post the link because I'm still a noob apparently... So gonna try breaking it up. Just remove the line returns and spaces.

Didn't work for me. Too be safe I used a virtual machine with a snap shot taken before installing so I can revert back without the risk of spyware. Also tried Kingo but no luck with either.
---------- Post added at 06:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:20 AM ----------
Also vroot during the root attempt installs 2 apps on your phone and who knows what it installs on Windows without running a regmon, if you do decide to try it make sure you uninstall the 2 chinese apps when your done trying. Also like I mentioned above I would highly not to install vroot or Kingo on your daily driver windows machine. Leave the testing to people who have virtual machines they can install these apps on.
I have used vroot and kingo in the past to successfully root so I know they do/can work, they just haven't been updated yet to work on the Droid Turbo. Hopefully they will.

It's not the end of the world, I just don't recall unlocking the bootloader doing that on previous devices.
Sooo does this mean I can put on a custom ROM or recovery? It's been a couple of years since I've messed with that so I'm not sure what's required. I'd love to get Marshmallow on here.

yep. now u can do whatever u want. u can convert your device to xt1095 or other to flash 6.0 or cm or another custom. you decide
if u want to convert your device dont forget about NON-HLOS.bin and fsg.mbn. That is modem files. U should take them from official 5.1 image for xt1097 otherwise your network wont work
I find this really hard to believe. I can't get past the "Could not get unlock data" error when i run fastboot oem get_unlock_data command. What am I doing wrong?

Locked Room
No luck here with the att model. Our day will come at&t people.
I just know this, I'm never buying a motorola device again. Locking people out of their own phones, that they own, is like buying a house and there's a locked room in it that you can never get into.

That isn't a reason to not buy motorola. It was AT&T that forced motorola to not let it be unlocked. Instead you should avoid AT&T. All of the moto x phones that are NOT from at&t can be unlocked easily and officially. So if you want unlocked phones at&t is a bad choice.

And yet other phones by other manufacturers are updated, and Motorola decided mid-stream that there would be no more updates. After the 'fast updates' campaign that never really materialized, this was just too much for me. No Moto again.

Anyone that uses King root is an idiot in my opinion, which I'm sure you don't care about that. What I do know early on was that there was some danger of your data going to of all places, China. Plus I don't like some of the exploits it uses to gain root. If you're happy with it though, go for it.
Isn't SuperSU now owned/maintained at least partially by a Chinese company?

Yes, It is owned by a Chinese company, I read that too and I don't trust them either but almost every hardware that is in front of me right now is manufactured in China. I avoid Chinese apps and will block/firewall SuperSu/KingoSu if someone can explain to me how to do that.
Once u install a custom recovery all ROMs are prerooted why would anyone stay stock any why would anyone use kingroot
You don't need Kingroot. A you need to do is unlock the bootloader, install twrp and flash super su.

I remember you, and I agree, at the time it was correct. And I have been working on a BL unlock. It might happen, since I am able to flash BLs no issue, we could possibly just use an unlocked bootloader from an XT1601 or something of the sort, since it is a harpia device, it should in theory work.
