Touchwizz & GPU rendering profile ? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hey everyone
Touchwiz used to be heavy and to consume to much a few years ago.
In the developers options menu, I saw something called "Profil de rendu GPU" (in french, it should be something like GPU rendering profile in english). With this option, I can see on screen how much my GPU is used (I think it's how it works ^^)
So I enabled this option with my Nougat (beta 6) Galaxy S7 edge, here is the result :

Then, I tried the same with my Galaxy S5 running an AOSP ROM, so no Touchwiz, and here is the result :
I tried the same experiment with a Nexus 5X and a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, and witt both of these phones I got the same result as my S5.
Can anyone explain me where is the difference between these 2 images coming from ?
Thanks

up ?

its not really good news, shows system is struggling to keep up with constant 60 fps unfortunately

And yet I've never seen under 50-60fps on my S7 edge, even in intensive use
So, why is this system struggling to keep constant 60fps ? Is it because of touchwiz ? Isn't Touchwiz better than before ?

It should be under the green line for stutter free smooth 60fps experience. This is like frame timing... higher than the green line = more ms to render the frames = less than 60fps... if it's a lot higher you will start to notice it as you move/scroll/etc.

YEAH. AND I'VE REPORTED IT SEVERAL TIMES DURING BETA.
But noone seems to care though. Even though I asked for help from xda...

Micro-stuttering is an issue with TouchWiz, believe it or not. And no matter how much optimization and improvement they promise each year, it's still the same.
I'm using the official nougat beta right now and I can affirm the following:
1. Massive keyboard lag
2. Home screen stuttering even when feeds page is off.
3. Overall the UI feels quicker and smoother than Marshmallow. But no way you can call it butter smooth.
Frankly, I guess I've had enough of Samsung. Been using S and Note Series flagships since the S2 days and now tired of this bull****. I mean how come a 10 thousand bucks phone feel smoother in operation than this 60K phone? Only samsung knows. The only reason I'm holding on to S7 edge is the design.
#FedUp

Okay thanks everyone for the explaination
I agree, Touchwiz isn't the smoothest ROM I've used and I'd love to see many stable AOSP-based ROMs for the Exynos S7 edge... I'm frustrated because of it, because I love flashing and changing ROMs ^^
I got it too thanks to its design and I hope that many others manufacturers will release innovative design this year so I can switch and leave Samsung

@BigBen60
I Think that the second screenshot shows a cached result, notice that it has lighter colors. So that's not a fair comparison.

Galaxy S vs S2 CM9

I have CM9 installed on my old Galaxy S for my younger bro with the latest devil kernel and CPU at 100-1200mhz. On my S2 I have CM9 with siyah 3.4.1 at 200-1200mhz.
When comparing the two, there is a massive difference in touch sensitivity and scrolling. The Galaxy S is so so much better and responsive and makes the S2 feel crap when you go back to using it. I hate the elastic scrolling on ICS!! It is perfect on the galaxy s, comparable to the S2 with Gingerbread, but S2 with ICS scrolling has never been the same. Fluxi kernel with xxkernel gingerbread touch settings seemed to improve the scrolling a bit, but I still prefer to stay on siyah. My CM9 galaxy s2 advanced settings touch sensitivity is set on 20
The second thing is the screen colours.
The galaxy s has much better whites and the S2 seems to have an ugly green tint to the screen. A difference is also noticed in the background of settings.
The galaxy s is still a damn good phone! But I love my S2!
I wish I could see for myself, but my Galaxy s has a broken screen. I agree on the scrolling issues but the rest I can't say. Can you upload some pics of both devices side by side?
On what cm9 release are you on? RC2 improved scrolling a lot!
I'm on 21/06 CM9, might update tomorrow and try the new changes

You will find no scrolling/color difference.

I've been checking the changelogs and that's what I thought. Maybe the updated newer kernel has been the difference.
Cant wait for supercurio to release his display expert app, hopefully it can improve things.

At last I can say WOW!!!

I had my mind set on the HTC M9. The "leaks" from evleaks had me drooling.
Watching the live event left me disappointed, then on to Samsung.
For me that phone is utterly stunning, I can't wait to get hold of this & add Nova Prime etc.

I agree with you, it does look outstanding. I cannot understand why so many people are complaining. Samsung have been rightly criticised for their lack of design, especially on the flagship devices. They did a good job with the Note 4 and they upped the bar with the S6.
The usual iDiots complaining it somehow looks like an iPhone, which apart from a similar speaker grill - it clearly does not... There will be those that gripe about the lack of removable battery and SD card of course (and they may have a point) but WAKE UP! This is a phone made by Samsung that actually looks gorgeous and actually looks like a flagship phone.
I am more of a Note fan so I won't be buying an S6 but am very much looking forward to seeing what they come out with for Note 5 this year if it builds upon this revamp of the Galaxy range.
I think the phone looks great. One issue that will bug the crap out of me is the fingerprints on the back. I want the black one, but may have to get white to mask it.

Next issue is spending the extra money for the 128gb. I need the storage.
Just curious. What do most people use all that storage for.

First take into account the OS size, so 32 is now 30 if you're lucky. If you have a kid like me, you take a lot of pics and vids. Average 13mp photo is 5mb or so each. Now with this phone, I'd have to copy all the data on my 128gb SD off to the phone storage. Taking into consideration I had a S4, S5, N3, N4, G2, G3, iphone 6. All photos and vids from each of those I have on my SD. It adds up.

They are giving us the new Touchwiz icons that look like they are the result of Touchwiz being raped and getting a back alley abortion. Nooooooooooo. I hope they at least include themes so that we can hide that mess. Then again, by the time this is actually released by Verizon, I assume a lot of us will have already moved on to non Samsung phones.
I think the biggest UI upgrade I can recall occuring on a Samsung device was maybe when the OG Note got Jellybean and looked fairly similar to the Note II and picked up some new features. Otherwise, Samsung has traditionally let as little as possible trickle down from their latest flagships to "last year's" model when doing updates---look at the Note 4 or the Note 3 Lollipop situation , for example. Neither phone was as smooth or as refined under Lollipop as it was under KitKat (I do not recall if the Note 3 was better under JB or KK). I certainly do not expect things like theme support or manual camera modes to ever trickle down to the Note 4. I'll just be glad to get its RF and battery performance back to where it was with KitKat.
I highly, highly doubt we ever see this.

His demo phone seems to be very laggy as hell with MM 6.0. Hopefully by the time we getting this it should be better.
It looks like it has a few things I might like. But the icons, dear lord are they bad. Way to iPhoneish for my liking.
The settings menu looks decent to me though.

Exactly why I hope they throw in themes. I hope somebody asks on the youtube page. He's been answering questions. (I tried to ask, but youtube won't let me sign in since I deleted G+ and my YT channel.)

Going to buy the Exynos and not sure anymore

Hi guys today im going to buy the S10+ Exynos and after reading all the bad things about the battery and camera im not sure anymore.
Is the battery life on idle going to be fixed? Is the lower quality of camera in the Exynos version is going to be fixed too?
Between the OnePlus 7 pro and the S10+ Exynos which would you choose?
Oneplus has had the worst camera of any major smartphone brand for several years running which is why the XDA section for every OnePlus phone has very active threads about using various builds of the ported Google Pixel Camera--you can't take even decent pictures on a OnePlus phone without a ported camera app.
If photography is your concern considering a OnePlus phone is a joke.
Anyone who has owned a OnePlus phone over the last few years should also know that standby battery drain is a frequent problem on their phones--especially after any OTA update.
The only advantage the OnePlus phone will have is if you want to run a custom ROM because there will be more ROMs available for their phones--but since developers stopped using OnePlus phones after the 3T model the ROMs are computer compiled with virtually no testing and always have bugs (sometimes major ones) even when they are labeled as stable.
My vote isn't for the OnePlus phone in case that isn't obvious enough.
I have both a 7 pro and a S10+. I find myself reaching for the 7 pro a lot more. Oxygen OS is just lightweight and fast, you can expect bi monthly updates for atleast 2 years.
Oneplus has pushed several updates for the camera and I find the camera solid. You can get better results with installing gcam but a lot of S10 owners do the same.
I just took delivery of a 10+ Exynos and the camera is excellent in my opinion.

I'd highly recommend the S10+.
I moved from an iPhone 8 plus and don't regret it. Battery life is amazing and the camera is amazing as well. No issues here.
I recall seeing a setting somewhere on my S10+ for a battery save option that learns your usage patterns and helps get the best battery life. Battery optimiser I think it was. Not sure how good it is though. Never needed it.
Can't argue with the points about the OnePlus 7 Pro either. Tested one in store and the experience was buttery smooth. The 90hz display makes a ton of difference.
In the end, I felt OxygenOS on the OnePlus was too simplistic for me after using the S10+ first. Just my personal opinion though. If I hadn't tried the S10 first I probably would have went OnePlus

Unpopular opinion: Android Go?

Hey people!
Since the S6 has quite a limited amount of RAM (for this decade!), would be it more useful to have an Android Go port instead of full-fat AOSP, or even Pixel ports?
I'm no developer and I don't even know much about Android Go so please explain/tell me why this hasn't been done. I'm sure a lot of people have thought of this before but there must be reasons that it's not come into existence, yet.
Thank you sooo much!

I don't really see a point as to why would anyone make an Android Go ROM for the Galaxy S6 Edge. The 7420 is still really capable enough to run modern versions of Android like A12 or A13 given the right optimisation and patches.
In addition to that, Android Go is just NikGapps Go on top of an AOSP build

I'm sorry but I didn't say anything about processing power though.
They should introduce a similar feature like RAM Plus on One UI for LineageOS Devices. With that, even the S6 would have no RAM issues in the upcoming years
Exynos 7420 in general is too strong, still going great these days. It just missing the right optimizations for AOSP roms, I bet it could handle A11 or A12 good. The current LOS 19.1 (A12) is currently in development, it still run ok, but because the HWC is broken so yeah.
