Rooted PF4 to Rooted PJ2 - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am unable to find instructions to upgrade. Did I miss something? I am on dev mod, TWRP, rooted Pf4. Do I simply need to flash the PJ2 rooted Zip? Is there a link I can't find? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I rooted so long ago, I honestly can't remember the process clearly. And I definitely don't want to lose TWRP or unlocked bootloader... Sorry for so many questions.

Did you manage to find a PJ2 rooted zip? 6.0.1 is not rooted yet, is it?
Regardless, don't flash anything that doesn't specifically say it does not include an updated bootloader.

Your answer should be there because it's been said that you're able to...read, read and read more before asking Dev's help. It should all be in the OP
Also, there's already numerous threads asking this.....just saying....

I think the link you gave is for LL, not for MM that he ask for.

MM can't be rooted. LL can. You have to revert back to LL in order to root. That's why he provided that link.

How do I find out if I have a 15 emmc phone? I was able to unlock the bootloader on PB1 and then upgrade to PF4 then I installed the PF4 stock deodexed but when I tried to install v85 of xposed my verizon screen stayed lol. I read on reddit someone unlocked it then put Cyanogen. Is this possible?
If u have unlocked once before then u r good

In the play store, download eMMC Brickbug Check. Your CID should start with 11 or 15. Sounds like if you unlocked the bootloader on PB1 and upgraded to PF4, you probably have 15.
So I just got an Asurion insurance replacement G900V, old one was rooted on 4.4
New one is PF4 6.0.1 and emmc starts with 11.
What can I do with it? can I root it at all?

I'm in the same boat as @cjschriver3. Is there a link with instructions to downgrade, root, then put it back to 6.0.1? Putting it back to 6.0.1 can be optional.

I didn't do a downgrade, I just rooted mine with this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370/
I guess you just need to find a suitable downgrade tutorial.

Did you follow the instructions under "Prepare to Root?" If you did, you downgraded to PB1 (LL, Android 5.0). I followed the guide yesterday and got root, but I don't wanna unlock my bootloader to upgrade to PF4 kernal and bootloader. Last time I unlocked the bootloader, I lost my 4G. Otherwise, the guide by @jrkruse is really good ^_^ Just have the issue of not being able to run safestrap to do the last step (Flashing Knox Removal). Guess I'll just start from scratch and flash the PB1 retail image and try again.

Hey Tango, just so that I am clear, are you saying you were able to root your S5 that was on MM with jrkruse's instructions?
EDIT:
I was able to root my Samsung S5 Galaxy on PJ2 with jrkruse's method
i have a g900v with the pg2 update(android 6.0.1) and cid 11. i've read through the various guides to get root, which involves downgrading to pb1 and rooting that. once i get pb1 rooted, is there a way to upgrade back to mm(pd1, p4, pg2 or pj2) the latest pj2 update and keep root? or will i be stuck on pb1 if i want to keep root?

As mentioned numerous times and throughout a good many top threads in the General Section of this VZW Forum, the answer is no if you have the CID 11 to be able to root or keep root once on MM

click the link below to check out the procedure for bringing a soft-bricked phone back to a functional stock firmware with bootloader still unlocked, but you will lose twrp and root. read the directions in the link as carefully as possible and you should have a fully working phone with unlocked bootloader, twrp, and systemless root. good luck!

OTA updates on rooted device

Hello and Happy new year everybody.
Recently i rooted my device (p9 lite single sim) unlocking the bootloader and installing twrp as Mandrigan's guide suggested.
As i know it is not safe to install OTA updates on a rooted device. Is there any way to do it without unrooting
the phone? Somewhere i read about flashfire but the app itself highlights that huawei devices are easily
bricked. The most common answer i find is to install the stock firmware but i cannot find anywhere
the firmware for my version (VNS-L31C150B121). Any ideas? Would the full unroot of SuperSU assist
me in that way?
Sorry for the many questions in one post.
Thanks in advance.
I'm a bit confused.
At any stock update you will loose root and TWRP and your unlocked bootloader will be locked again.
Be aware to have saved unlock code...

Need Stock 4.4 ROM with no bootloader

Hey guys,
I am looking to flash stock 4.4 on my S5. I am currently running 5.0 PB1 but the bootloader cannot be downgraded as I'm sure many of you know. Any link to a stock 4.4 ROM with no bootloader would be greatly appreciated. I preferred the darker look of KK compared to MM or Lollipop
If I remember correctly, this is the thread you need: https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/help/installing-custom-roms-newly-rooted-t3292655
See the 2nd post. Read through the thread and ask questions.
This thread is interesting...https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880. My S5 came with PF4 6.01 loaded on it, so I downgraded to PB1 5.0, rooted, and then unlocked the bootloader. I came from an S3 running BoneStockROM 3.4 which is 4.1.2, so I would love to run NK2 on my S5, which I think is 4.4.4.

I'm not rooted and I have no plans to root, I was talking about a tar file that will work on PB1. I have tried to root it, but have failed. I'm not the most experienced when it comes to rooting. I've tried asking on reddit, but no one had a link. I've seen some people with the PB1 bootloader running 4.4 so I thought it was possible.

Any possible root method for G900V

Is there any possible way to root the Verizon Galaxy S5 running marshmallow? I've done tons of research looking for a method to obtain root, but it seems my variant doesn't have anything going for it. My phone is g900vvru2dpg2, and Android 6.0.1. I'm getting rather irritated with TouchWiz, I miss being able to change anything on my old Galaxy S3. Also please excuse me if I'm in the wrong section, I'm brand new to posting on this site.
Hi, bro. There is no method to root MM S5. But you can downgrade to Lollipop 5.0.1 and root it with Kingroot
Install this app from the market and look at the CID.
If it's 15xx... then the answer is "YES", there's a way to have a rooted Verizon Galaxy S5 running marshmallow.
If it's 11xx... then the answer is "NO", only LP.

Thanks, I've successfully downgraded but the root method provided didn't work for me. Now that I'm on lollipop I think it'll be easier to find support.

I had issues during the root process also. What I ended up doing was, after you click on the first bat file, the device sticks at the white screen. Go ahead & do the root process now. The device does NOT have to be booted into the OS for this to root. In fact that's the only way it works. I was able to get mine rooted using the method I linked above.
EDIT: If the root process hangs Close the bat, unplug phone pull battery and reboot phone to recovery (VolUp+Pwr+Home). In recovery wipe cache only and reboot. If phone reboots back to recovery instead, pull battery and manually reboot. Now plug phone back in and Launch Bat #3.
When the above happens you do NOT want to do a battery pull, just go on with the root process.

Thanks man. I forgot to update this thread, but I did eventually obtain root using the method after about the 3rd or 4th attempt. I guess I just missed steps each try. I am now on Lineage 14.1 with unlocked bootloader and TWRP

Well, it's simple.
You need to have MM ROM, unlocked bootloader and TWRP recovery.
If the ROM isn't rooted yet you can simply download SuperSU zip from chainfire.eu and flash it via TWRP.
Bootloader unlocking guide is here.
MM ROM is here or any other you like.
