Honor 8 - Disable YellowPages in Dialer - Honor 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Go to:
Settings -> Apps -> Menu -> Show system processes
Then find YellowPage and disable it.

I don't even have it. Pretty sure if it was ever on my phone, I uninstalled it. Is that normally a problem on unlocked phones like the Honor 8?

I got unlocked Honor 8 FRD-AL00. They only option is to disable the YellowPage service.

i disable it using titanium backup along with the other stock bloatware

[Fix/Tips] Battery drain and performance problems fix

Hello guys, I want to try to help everyone who has problems with battery life and performance.
First of all, I want to say that you shouldnt have any problems if you use your device in a normal way(calling ,social networking apps, playing light games etc)
A SOT of around 6-7h on mobile network or a SOT of 7-8h on WiFi is really good and in my opinion normal and you shouldnt need to worry about. Over night while you are sleeping (8h for example) your battery shouldnt drain more than 3-5%.
If you have much less SOT or much more battery drain over night, you should read the following steps and try them.
(I can tell you that my OP3/3t never drains more than 3-4% over night and I have no problem getting 6h SOT on mobile network or 6-7h or even more on WiFi use only. I have to say I dont use Facebook or twitter for example, but I have my Bluetooth always turned on because i use a mi band )
Please try the following steps and tell me if it did help you. (Please choose one option in the pool)
1. Activate doze mode and aggressive doze mode in developer options and change the animation scale
- Go into settings -> developer options -> Doze mode -> activate it
- Go into Settings ->Battery ->3 Dots Menu ->Agressive doze & app hibernation ->Tap the slider and activate for apps
- Go into settings -> developer Options -> Window Animation scale/Transitions Animation scale/Animator duration scale -> set them to .5x or even off
2. Install Greenify from Google Play Store and activate it
Activate it for every app you can, except for apps with a little blue cloud as they need to work in background to sync data. (WhatsApp for example)
3. Wipe cache after every update and from time to time (I recommend once a week)
Turn off your phone -> hold power button and volume down button -> release the power when your phone turns on -> select english by pressing the volume down button and then the power button -> go to wipe cache and data -> select cache (and nothing else!) and press the power button -> reboot now
4. Turn off potential power hogs you dont necessarily need
- For example turn off Bluetooth, GPS Location and Location history, Mobile Data if not in use, WiFi if not in use and NFC -> you can find them in settings under their name
- Also turn off things like gestures in settings: Go into settings -> Gestures -> turn them off
5. Use pocket mode
Settings -> Advanced -> Pocket Mode
6. Turn off Android Device Manager and Google Now Cards
- Settings -> Security & Fingerprint -> Device Administrators -> Android Device-Manager -> turn it off
- Open your Google App -> Settings -> Your Feed -> Turn off Feed
7. Configure your WiFi
- Settings -> Wifi -> tap the gear symbol -> turn off "Scanning always available"
- You can also turn off "Keep wifi on during sleep" but i dont recommend it as apps like WhatsApp will only receive messages when you turn your screen back on!
8. Use adaptive brightness
Use the little "A" in the dropdown settings menu next to your screen brigthness bar
9. Use a Browser that is developed for Snapdragon devices
I recommend using Gello Mod or TugaBrowser as they are developed especaily for using with a device with a snapdragon CPU to save battery -> just search for them in Google
10. Disable permissions of apps
Try disabling permissions of apps if possible. This should prevent apps from using your internet connection and staying in background keeping your CPU awake. Please be aware that some specific apps need some specific rights to work properly. Use the try and error method here.
11. If u have custom recovery installed you can use custom kernels such as ex kernel , blu spark etc for better battery and performance.

Im using it, obviously isn't optimized exactly for the 3T but they are quite similar devices and it's better than stock imo.

Then disable for apps you constantly use.

Small (but annoying) issue with PIN and fingerprint unlock

After updating to b370 I noticed a small, yet very annoying issue. I have set a fingerprint to unlock the device, however, about 5 times out of 10, when I try to unlock the device with my fingerprint, it will say "Device administrator locked device" and still force me to enter my pin.
Anyone else noticed this? Know a way around it?
Try disabling some apps that have access to Screen like app "Screen off and Lock" (You can find it at Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Security -> Device Administrator)

OK, the culprit was Arrow Launcher due to enabling double tap to unlock.

I have a few things for you to try
1.
Settings > Device Maintenance > Battery > Advanced(top right)
You can either just turn off App Power Monitor (if you do ignore number 2.)
or if you want to use it still you can click on it and then click "put unused apps to sleep" and change the sleep delay.
2.
Settings > Device Maintenance > Battery > Unmonitored Apps (scroll right down to the bottom to find it)
and add the apps you dont want it to monitor.
If none of this has worked for you its possible an option in devloper settings is enabled.
3.
Settings > About Phone > Software Information > Tap "build number" over and over untill Developer Mode is enabled
Then go to
Settings > Developer options (at the very bottom) > Make sure "Do not keep activities" is turned off and that "limit background processes" is set to standard.
Hope this helps :good:

Default dialer showing ads

After every call, I get this screen: https://imgur.com/a/LKILb
First of all, what the hell?
Second of all, how do I remove this or use the default dialer instead?
Do you use Trucaller?
Looks like Trucaller is your default dialler!
Sent from my Mi A1
If you are using Viva Video Maker, disable phone permission and draw over other apps permission tp avoid ads after every call. Faced this before on Oneplus 5
Settings -> Apps -> Gear Icon -> Phone App -> Select your dialer

Default-App: Assistant resets on Chinese version of Mate8

Hey there,
I have a Mate 8 Chinese version. Build Number NXT-AL10C00B592. My Phone is rooted.
My goal is to replace the HiVoice with the Google Assistant.
What I've done so far:
- Remove the HiVoice App described as here https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/how-to/how-to-replace-hivoice-vocal-assistant-t3465522/amp/
Even this was a P9 article, I gave it a try. Well.. the HiVoice is gone now.
- Installed the Google app, configured the speech assistant. In order to do this I had to set the Google Assistant as default assistant in my app settings. (apps - settings - default app - assistant - assistant-app =Google). Once this was done I was able to press the Home-Button to activate the Google Assistant. Awesome.. I thought so.. after approx. 15 minutes, it wasn't working anymore. The default assistant app was set to None..
So I thought it is maybe because of the Depp-sleep-device-idle Huawei-special-whatever.. so I tried to disable this one via adb.. works fine.. my WhatsApp messages arrive immediately, even if the app is closed.. yay, but that was not my goal..
I am at the end of my knowledge. Do you guys have any idea how to set the Google Assistant as default permanently? Maybe there is a config file that I could modify or something..
Thanks mates,
Shyarly
I'm experiencing the same problem here, and I'm also looking for solutions. I tried using Ice Box and successfully disabledthe Hivoice App. After playing around for a while Iwould say that force stopping the Google app would reset the assist app to none. I tried setting the assist app to Cortana and force closing it but the setting remains. On the other hand however, In my experience on a global model it seems the Google app (as a system app) cannot be force stopped, unless you disable and re-enable it, which also causes the assist app to be reset. maybe there's a switch that makes the google app persistent, and I hope that helps.
I seem to be able to solve this issue, but I'm on EMUI 8.1 and on P20Pro, not sure if it's suitable for your case - probably it's the same case for all recent Huawei phones (Chinese ver.) so I just post it here:
1. Go to settings > Apps & notifications > Apps > Google > Advanced > Set write system setting to "Yes".
2. On the same page, change the Google app launch to "Manage manually" and turn on Auto-launch, Secondary launch, and Run in background.
3. If you still have HiVoice installed, just turn off the write system setting permission on HiVoice in case it's overwriting the Google voice command.
I have checked in an hour or two so far, tried to restart my phone too, the default app for voice is still with Google and "OK Google" works smoothly. Still with one flaw, once you call the Google assistance, don't close/clean it otherwise the setting will be reset.
Thanks to Ronald.Cheng I have followed your first step and decided to add my own steps and so far I have been using my phone for whole day and even restare how I modified the setting.
1. Go to settings > Apps & notifications > Apps > Google > Set write system setting to "Yes".
2. Go to settings > Apps & notifications > Apps > Google > Battery > uncheck "close after the screen locked"
If it is possible, repeat 2. On assistant
I hope it works with your Huawei.
Same problem unsolved
Hello,
I have a honor note 10 (Chinese mui 8.2) and the same problem. First I struggled to install and use Google assistant and had to force enable it, and now it works until it resets itself. I followed the instructions below but I doesn't seem to do anything. Is there any way I can make Google a system app or with similar rights using adb or whatever ?
