remember, it's a "rar" package, so you've to unpack it & then flash it via fastboot flash commands.
It can't be flashed via custom recovery like TWRP, you should be on stock ROM & recovery to flash this.

I presume that you MAY NOT have to flash whole rom, if you 'JUST' flashed the needed version of recovery then you can upgrade with a OTA zip (can't test as only got xt1068) maybe someone can test this - but obviously some OTA's rely on being updated in order.
This is for XT1063 Only!

Bootloader can easily be locked. I've done it & even made a one click to do it as well. However I was able to update to 5.0 without the bootloader being locked. I'm back on KitKat for the third time. I'm not willing to give up root & deal with all the bugs of L.
There is also a custom ROM in these forms that run smoother than the stock & easier to install but still has the root bug.

What model do you have?
I can assure you I am not new at this, I bought my phone from Amazon with 21.11.23 and there was an addition added at some point that prevents a downgrade and in turn does not allow the system to be flashed with a locked or unlocked bootloader if you start with the command Fastboot oem lock begin.
if you have an XT1063 please tell me how you locked your bootloader without modifying anything that will then be unreversable.
Don't take it the wrong way, but I have seen people create tools that edit the hex to show bootloader locked then they can no longer unlock it or corrupt the phone and brick.

ETA: I'm not going to get upset over anything in a forum. I just post info to the best of my knowledge in hope to be helpful to someone else. Sometimes that changes as more knowledge is gained.
I have a xt1063 .17 & I did use "fastboot oem lock begin" I don't remember every command but the one click also restored the stock firmware at the same time. I'll have to look at my files in a few. I only made about 20 one clicks & was writing & rewriting a how to guide all at the same time as I was trying to figure it out & get on 5.0 all at the same time. Like I said tho my bootloader is unlocked again & it doesn't seem to affect the ability to flash OTA.

I never said anything about needing to relock it. I just said I have not been able to for those of us that want 5.0.1 and want to lock the bootloader. If you are able to price steps on how you downgraded from 5.0 and locked the boot loader I sure would want to try it myself.
Ideally I would add in the commands above fastboot OEM lock begin and fastboot OEM unlock for those who want a relocked boot loader before flashing the otas. Its just not possible if you are not on 21.11.17 to begin with because of the signed zip downgrade verification

Stating that it didn't need locked to flash 5.0 is just added info for anyone fallowing the thread & based on my experience. That may change for flashing 5.0.1.
These commands was ran from a modified 21.11.17 build to lock the bootloader. I thought I read ether in this thread or another thread that you already found a way to flash back to the stock firmware 21.11.17 without the downgrade error. If your on stock 21.11.17 now then you could give the lock command a try from mfastboot. I restored a Nandroid to get back to KitKat from Lollipop.
The one click I made was for those that had tampered with their stock 21.11.17 & wanted to be back to stock & locked. I didn't even know there was a 21.11.23 build at the time.

You will get updates. You can Root, however I do not think there is a stable root yet. If you unlock your boot loader it will format, if you already unlocked your boot loader then you will not loose your data.

Yes an unlocked boot loader has no effect on anything except the abity to flash a custom recovery. If your unlocked and have it all stock, then you should be good

Yeah, just to make things more... confused!
We have Z, Force, Play, single sim, dual sim, Verizon's, unlocked, etc... we *really* need confused codename and product codes to help us on this...

Keep in mind depending on the region you're flashing you may have a different number of sparse chunks (I think VZW has like 16, where as stock has like 13) You just enter the amount of sparse chunks you need to flash.

I would just root yourself then. I couldn't get systemless root to work with the current TWRP available so I just flashed a forced System ROOT instead.

Download from there and flash it in TWRP. But say goodbye to Android pay obviously
:/ Ok; try as I might I cannot seem to get my Moto Z to boot if I have SuperSU installed. My bootloader is unlocked, and I've been able to flash different ROMS with no problem. But if I try to install SuperSU (v2.78-SR1) to a working ROM, or install JanJan's pre-rooted US ROM, then Android simply never boots. I just downloaded the three more recent versions of SuperSU to give them a try, but does anyone have any suggestions of what I might be doing wrong here?

Sounds to me like you need a different Boot image then. I flashed the boot.img that was disabled force encryption, then flashed the System mode SuperSU. No issues at all. US Moto Z 64 GB model.

Can confirm that the above ROM works with my Moto G5 XT1675 (UK), I flashed this and was (finally!) able to re-lock the phone's bootloader.
Has anyone tried this on the 3gb/16gb dual SIM variant
ROM works for X1676 2/16, but bootloader isn't able to lock
Nice! Though I have used firmware from the firmware centre and have managed to relock the bootloader....

[HELP] Return to stock before selling G5 Plus!

Hi! I could really need some help over here!
I have a G5 Plus that i bought in Sweden, Europe. I unlocked bootloader, and flashed a ROM.
But now i´m going to sell it, so i need to reflash the stock image (ROM). Also i need to relock bootloader.
Can someone help me find the latest, working firmware, and also with the right commands to use with fastboot to do this?
Modell is: X1685.
Why would you need to relock the bootloader? I guess you will sell the device warning the person that it doesn't have warranty, right?
I was going to type this but then found this post....

Watch the Video which will help you to flash the firmware.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blYQ28DZJQk
Use FastBoot Command to flash the firmware (Backup you data as it would erase the internal Memory)
Fastboot command:
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin

fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin

Be careful, it will flash the bootloader. If you have a newer version of the bootloader than th one you sumbitted, you will harfbrick your device.

If the stock ROM is older than what you have on your device, then the bootloaders usually prevent you from downgrading.
Hard bricks usually do not happen when you downgrade, they happen if you've downgraded and then take OTA updates (mismatches between the bootloader patch level and system patch level are a culprit). Best way to avoid this is to not downgrade.
At any rate, you cannot lock a bootloader with a build older than your existing stock firmware, regardless of custom ROMs flashed. You need a firmware of the same or newer build than your device stock firmware to relock. To the best of my knowledge, NPNS25.137-33-11 appears to be the newest or nearly newest firmware for EU devices. You can download from here https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto G5 Plus/Stock/ please confirm that this firmware is suitable before flashing.
You could try re-locking with other firmware, however NPN25.137-35 is for US devices, so would not likely receive OTA updates if flashed onto EU devices. As for warranty, the warranty isn't transferable as far as I know and as Motorola's got a record of the device being unlocked, the warranty is void. However, under EU consumer laws, you or the buyer could still get repairs if you're both resident in the territory. Would be wise to check this and let the buyer know.

There appears to be no fastboot flashable file for this version available anywhere on the internet. I've searched for days and had absolutely no luck!
Looks like both the OP and I are stuck on custom ROMs. Why Lenovo don't make these available I don't know...
If anyone knows of anywhere to get this please help us.
EDIT: Oh, also mine is XT1684 which I've seen virtually nothing about on XDA.

Mines a 1684, seems moto made 2 models for UK with same specs.
Regarding fastboot did you extract download zipped archive into fastboots folder.
When I say download follow the link above to firmware centre, if using phone to browse you need phone in landscape otherwise you cannot get name.

Thing is, there's no xt1684 version or retgb version. I fear it could be the wrong one, can't afford to replace phone so can't risk hard bricking it. Thanks though.

What is best way to update Security Patches on rooted / Unlocked G7?

What is the safest way to apply the newest updates? I am still on April, been afraid to do anything without asking first.
Is there a simple way, and will I still be able to unlock/root again?
Same question. Accent being on 'safe'.

Either flash a custom rom that's been updated with the latest security patch
Or flash an official stock firmware but remember the chances of it being the latest security patch is slim
Obviously if your device is not bootloader unlocked you can't flash custom roms - you can flash official stock firmware via fastboot but I wouldn't bother as you will already be on the latest available firmware so just wait for the next ota update to arrive

I copied out the important parts..
1. Download the latest firmware.
2. Install adb & fastboot
3. Flash with these commands:
Code:
fastboot getvar max-sparse-size
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
fastboot flash dtbo dtbo.img
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.6
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.7
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.8
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.9
fastboot flash system_b system_b.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system_b system_b.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system_b system_b.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash oem oem.img
fastboot flash oem_b oem_other.img
DO NOT RUN THIS ONE ---- fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase DDR
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
you will then need to patch boot with magisk again.

The latest for the xt1962-1 retail is the August security patch. That's pretty good considering Lenovomoto.
I hit the notice for the June 1, 2019. Failed to install. Tried using the Lenovo Moto Smart Assistant and it bricked my phone. Now have to wait on Motorola to send a replacement. Very frustrated right now. WTF an OTA failed and the LMSA bricked the phone. SMH...
Don't try to apply the updates or LSMA without locking the bootloader (again) first. Afterwards unlock and reroot using same method as before. I'm sure there will be plenty of full wipes so back up accordingly.

Locking the bootloader is not a cinch either.
Makes you wonder if the safest course might not be to just ignore the updates and stay with the android version you have.
Which is more dangerous, staying with the 'not-updated' working phone or trying to update and risking a bricked phone?

From my understanding, you need a signed/original boot.img that of which if you didn't make a backup of yours before rooting, than the LSMA can help. I'm thinking removing Magisk and full factory resetting will be necessary as well.
As for obtaining a copy of a signed/official boot.img

Head on over to https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds101291 and download the tool, after installed put your phone in bootloader/fastboot mode and go through the rescue steps up until the firmware is downloaded, do not click rescue after the firmware is fully downloaded just head on over to C:\ProgramData\LMSA\Download\RomFiles and open the downloaded firmware and take the boot image from there and copy it to your fastboot tools folder and flash that boot.img check that the firmware matches the version installed on your phone before flashing the boot.img.
