Thanks for this tutorial but I have an issue with step 2.
I just unlock my bootloader with official steps provided by Sony developer site, but I have no idea how to flash TWRP recovery now ?
Thanks for your help

I can't enter the recovery, orders are: fastboot flash recovery twrp.img and pushing Vol+? thanks

recovery is a pain with hardware buttons...root it get some quick reboot (root) app and reboot to recovery

Recovery cannot be entered. Please explain.

Incomplete instructions, halfbaked instructions and no ability to enter recovery... did it even work i wonder now:
Step1: able and done
Step2: need root to use TWRP, geeh thats what we are trying to do (so that one is quite messed up)
or somehow theres a hardware/button combi that was leftout from these instructions

[STOCK][D58XX][5.X] Installing ROOT tutorial

Hi friends!
I've got absolutely no expirience on how to write tutorials on XDA and i'm from Denmark, so if it's way off on regards to spelling and guidelines, you now know why.
The goal of this tutorial is to guide you through the process of gaining root access with Recovery on your Xperia Z3 Compact running Android Lollipop 5+.
WARNING: DO NOT USE THIS METHOD IF YOU ARE ON A LOCKED BOOTLOADER!
Lets start
Download AndroPlusKernel from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/development/kernel-andropluskernel-t2937173
Download XZDualRecovery Kernel from here: http://nut.xperia-files.com/
Copy XZDualRecovery Kernel to your Xperia phone
Open AndroPlusKernel.zip, extract the boot.img and flash it using flashboot with the command "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
Turn on your phone, pressing the volume up to start the recovery.
Flash the ZDualRecovery Kernel
Reboot and open SuperSU so finalize the root access.
Enjoy!
PEAS!!!
This method will not delete any data on your phone.
- Simon
Im root on the 5.0.2 ftf listed in this forum.
I have locked bootlaoder... Although xzdr is nor working.... Is this procedure you detail still ok for my current device?

If you are on a locked bootloader - please see this page http://nut.xperia-files.com/ and flash the "XZDualRecovery"
T2U-lockeddualrecovery2.8.3-RELEASE.flashable.zip - it wont delete your TDA partition.

Apparently this recovery is not yet compatible with lollipop. Besides there's no recovery in my setup to flash any flashable.
But this procedure is for LolliPop 5.0 ? I know that Custom Recovery of NUT is not compatible with it !?!
So your procedure for lock bootloader will be:
Download AndroPlusKernel from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-c...ernel-t2937173...link is wrong: is http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/development/kernel-andropluskernel-t2937173 and the kernel is Z3C_AndroPlusKernel_v31.zip ..BUT this kernel want Unlocked bootloader ??
Download XZDualRecovery Kernel from here: http://nut.xperia-files.com/ : T2U-lockeddualrecovery2.8.3-RELEASE.flashable.zip
Reboot and open SuperSU so finalize the root access.
...so is not clear all ?!?
Hispanico
If i download
http://nut.xperia-files.com/
Z3C-lockeddualrecovery2.8.3-RELEASE.installer.zip
And start the process for 5.0.2 in locked bootloader will work? Is this recovery working?
Sent from my D5803 using XDA Free mobile app
XZDR isn't working for LP yet, regardless of bootloader status. OP can you please provide proof that you have working recovery in LP, because it seems you're the only user with this
Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
I'm sorry for the misleading title, my method will not install any recovery on your phone - but only root access. Sorry for the mistake.
But for now root access is cool as it enables me to use airstream, vpn and other features that weren't available before.
When a working recovery is released the steps can be used again (flashing androplus) followed by flashing wathever you want to flash from within the recovery. Just remember to flash a compatible lollipop kernel in order for boot to work afterwards.

Hi Hispanico. I just got a z3c with Lollipop installed. Its basically a stock z3c that receieved the lollipop upgrade. If I follow your steps stated here, will I be able to gain root on 5.0.2? I just want to double check on it, because I don't want to end with a brick. Your steps are clear, but I have not found anyone else saying that they did it with success (or not)...
Thanks!
Hi. How do I know if my z3c is locked bootloader or not locked ?

Hi
I have the same question or @Chaleman did you try
@Taurintas
Dial *#*#7378423#*#* . Then go to -> "Service Info" -> "Configuration". If there is:
Bootloader unlock allowed - Yes << this means that your Bootloader is Locked
Bootloader Unlocked - Yes << this means that your bootloader is unlocked
@ukunilus
Did it and it says bootloader unlock allowed - no. What does it mean ? It means that I cannot do these steps ?

Android N Root Working(Explained)

There are two methods to root Android N .
Method 1
Flash the Supersu.zip from custom recovery.
RC-SuperSU-v2.69-20160313161431.zip
Method 2
This method will work without custom recovery , just download it and go the fastboot and follow the steps .
CF-Auto-Root-bullhead-bullhead-nexus5x-NPC56P.zip
Just download the file
Extract it
reboot your Nexus 5X into bootloader
Now open the root-windows(If you are using windows otherwise select the file which is for your operating system)
Now the command window will open and ask you to enter any key to continue
Then press any key from your keyboard and it will automatically done the remaining process and your phone will reboot
If you device got bootloop then poweroff the device once and power on manually
Thats it you will see the SuperSu icon .
If you like hit the thanks ......

Just looking for someone to point me in the right direction

So I decided to root my phone ...I used the latest Windroid toolkit ..now I was able to unlock the boot loader and install/flash TWRP. here is my issue when I click on the Flash SuperSU button I get this error "wrong device state ! please ensure that your device is in Android! any help on how to finish flashing it would be appreciated.
Windroid toolkit 3.1.0

My best guess is that you're trying to root it from fastboot. Load it into recovery instead. If that doesn't work, change direction and figure out how to flash a stock Rom with root pre-installed or check chainfire for his rooting utilities.

Point you in the right direction? Don't use a toolkit...
Rooting is simple on Moto devices:
1) Unlock bootloader
2) Flash TWRP
3) In TWRP, go to Advanced - Terminal
4) Enter "echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu"
5) Flash latest SuperSU in TWRP+
6) Reboot and enjoy the rooty goodness
That's it.

Please note that if you want to flash your DRM keys back (step 7 of the guide above) you need flashtool version 9.22.3 (also for this thanks to @ondrejvaroscak).
How to install recovery and root your x compact:
Follow this guide and install latest 'Customized UK' Firmware which is 34.2.A.0.311
https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/root-root-stock-firmware-modern-sony-t3558904
- You will use flashtool to create your own custom kernel
- Flash custom kernel
2. Flash TWRP from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/x-compact/development/recovery-twrp-t3522249
3. Boot into TWRP and flash SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815.zip
- Note: Did not enter password to decrypt device b/c don't know it
- Click Reboot system
4. SuperSu is installed and you are done.
you have two options for the kernel image; use flashtool and rootkernel (step 1. above) to make a stock boot.img that can be flashed with fastboot, or flash the genesis one if you did not backup/lost you keys, or want some more functionality/options. (with twrp this is important)

it will do the job just fine.
whether you want to flash twrp or just boot it is up to you, use the command in post#4 to just boot it.
and yeah it does not matter if /data is encrypted just skip it in twrp, supersu can install itself systemless on encrypted /data partition initially using the cache partition to setup things. copy supersu 2.79 to a physical sdcard (that is not encrypted) flash it from there, and of cause do NOT wipe cache/dalvik after flash just reboot. the phone will reboot once while booting setting things up and backing up the original boot.img to /data also. after that your rooted.
personally for starters I would recommend the guide by @ondrejvaroscak

I believe Xposed for nougat is still in progress.
I'm not able to fastboot into TWRP on my phone.
I have 311 Customized UK installed on my phone with custom stock kernel.
After I do 'fastboot boot twrp.img" my phone reboots and just goes to a blank screen.
Will flashing the twrp.img to recovery make any difference?
