Planning to buy Moto G4 Plus - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Hello Guys,
I am planning to buy Moto G4 plus indian variant. I have few questions in mind and i hope I'll get answers to my question here.
1. My primary concern is heating. Heard loads of comments here and there on heating. Even after migrating to nougat, some guys still raise their eyebrows on device heating.
2. Overall performance/fluidness of device.
3. Battery backup.
Thanks in advance.

I get all day charge running on pure stock with no problem. LTE on Verizon towers works awesome and the phone runs fluent all day long. I don't game on it really but for email, messages, web browsing, Facebook. It works flawless. I have a regular G4.

1. Yes, the device heats. but it depend on the type of user. I'm a moderate user with no gaming at all and the device works fine. If you are a heavy user stay away from this device, as this device heats up faster. (For gamers a big NO)
2. Performance and smoothness is great specially with N beta.
3. N beta improved the battery life (5 hours SOT with 24 hours battery life is easily achieved.)
If you can save up some more, go for one plus 3 or 3T, as I dont feel the quality of G4 matches previous moto phones.
Anyways the choice is yours.

NO. NO.NO
DONT LISTEN THEM WHO SAYS THAT .
1. it was heating at some extent on MM 6.0 but on nougat not at all . just litle bit while recording 1080 p video after few minutes .
i use 720 p because of huge space occupied by 1080 p almost 20 to 25 MP per minute!!
2 i am using CM 14.1 and playing modern combat 5 without any heating or lags !!! i was stunned by its performance .
before that i was confused about my choice as i was thinking that I made mistake but now happy to have g4 plus
screen shots of lots of game play nearly 2 hours continuously and tempature never crossed 43 . i think this is normal temp. for high end gaming

So i just did something crazy

Been fighting with myself inside my head for my next phone since my old S3 is now property of my GF, so today i woke up and just ordered a GSM Dev Edition Moto X.
And i do not regret my decision knowing that the Nexus 5 may be released in 3 days.
So, what is up Moto X forum.

Welcome!
You won't regret it. The general consensus is that this device is pretty amazing. Most people get great battery life (my average is 18hrs off charge 4-5hrs screen, mix in games voice calls etc), the ones that aren't, are suffering from standby drain (this may be due to the initial enabling of location tracking settings, discovered by Kev1000000, it's being tested). You will love active notifications, for such a seemingly simple feature... it's life changing. Always listening is also great, if you are like me and always wanted to use voice commands but was always left disappointed and frustrated, then you are in for a treat, this phone actually works extremely well, even in noisy conditions.
I also came from an sgs3, the difference is night and day, in battery, performance, comfort and how I interact with the device... I'm sure that you will not be disappointed.
Development is not quite here yet, but that's not necessarily a bad sign, this phone has been the best experience out of the box that I have ever had... Speaking as a recovering flashoholic, I am enjoying having a phone that is awesome right out of the gate. I feel that once 4.4 releases, we will see more activity, but with safestrap being released and root available, in sure things will be coming down the pipe line soon, but this phone doesn't really need it.

I agree with the above post. This is the first Android phone I have ever bought and not felt a strong urge to screw around with it immediately.
Very happy so far...

Indeed, welcome! Many moto features can be done with 3rd party apps. But they either drain battery fast, or not very smooth. Ever since I owned moto, my N4 has been so very lonely
thank you everyone.
gotta start reading the guides and terms here, coming from a Galaxy S, S2, S3 so i know all the samsung terms and stuff but now i gotta onboard myself with the Moto X apps, and modes.
as for dev, it will be here eventually, for my flashing problems i got my Nexus 7.
can't wait to get my device in here, stupid motorola and their 7 day shipping.

Hey guys! I had a Samsung S5 before my moto G4 plus and i like a lot of that keyboard with the number bar over the letters. Can anyone help me with this?
July 12 US release is something I'm patiently waiting for. Guys who have had the outside the US versions of the G4 or G4 Plus can you guys chime in about thoughts on the phone vs its rivals. If I get one it will be the 64 GB 3 GB Ram version for $299 US. The other versions don't appeal to me for $200-$250 as I have plenty of options in that price range. Really hoping for fast development since performance/development is what I'm after. Not a gamer/camera guy at all. I'm a straight phone UI tweak and browse the net user. In simplest terms are there any regrets from current G4 Plus users

Battery life compared to V10

I'm interested in the V20 (to replace my V10) but am very concerned about the battery. Anyone had, or have, both a V10 and a V20?
The CPU improvements will be nice but that battery is key.
Thanks!

Seems to be somewhat better for me. Not twice as long, but it seems I can get a few extra hours of my (admittedly not very heavy) usage.
Even a few extra hours would be welcomed... Thanks for the input! Looking further into XDA, I appreciate how the V20 seems to be rootable as well.

I almost bought a V10 used to see if maybe I would get a V20 later. I'm glad I went ahead and just got the V20. For me it is better than the Note 4 with the same use.
However, standby time is insane with Android 7.0. Standby on the Note with 6.0 was very good but 7.0 takes Doze a step further and works amazing. If they update the N4 to Nouget then it will prob be about the same as the V20.

At the time of typing this I have 1 hour 15 minutes screen time and the above screen shot.

They did the V20 good with power saving software. Much better than the V10 which I had previously.
As for screen time and battery size, there's not much of a difference. Maybe a hour more tops.
I bought the V10 in Oct 2015. Got the two battery and SD card deal. Initially, the battery life was good, not quite as good as the V20 has been, but by the time the phone was 6 months old I was changing batteries by noon and still charging later in the afternoon (depends on the day).
The V20 has been great, some power use days I am charging at 6 PM (usually take it off charge at 7-7:30AM on the regular)...other days, I still have 70% left at 10PM with a couple calls, couple texts and checking Facebook hourly.
Now, my wife gets the hand me down, and now uses the V10, she is not a poweruser. on one battery she can get through the work day, but is usually charging when she gets home.

High RAM usage by system apps always

My new Moto G5 Plus(indian varaint) expreiences high RAM usage by system apps always. I already did tried factory resetting phone and even using in safe mode. The problem still persist. On restart system apps uses 750MB and it continues increasing by usage. does anyone having a same problem? Please see the screenshots.

That is not a problem. RAM is there to be used.
A system which leaves 1-2gb free is not an efficient system.
You're right but phone becomes unresponsive and laggy when RAM usage reaches to 2 gb or above and only option I've after is to restart the device.
In India I have compared Moto g5 plus with a 200$ or 14,000 Rs smartphone and moto g5 losses in ram management moto has no game in memory at all with 4gb ram going against chinese coolpad cool 1 that too has 4gb ram moto g5 lost, moto by lenovo does need to work on there ram management for sure
if interested here is the video link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkKxHUZCfWE
That's what I want to point out, Moto G5 Plus seems having bad RAM management!
Guys im waiting for xposed framework to start working on moto g5plus it solves all problems cos this Moto OS is pure android OS once its tweaked just wait for same to perform like a champ

I'm looking at buying the G5 Plus, but I'm still looking at bang for the buck. My question is, is the extra 2 gigs of ram worth the 75 dollar increase?
Yes, I think it is. I read all the reviews and most of them were with the 64GB model. Thought I would be OK with the 2GB model - but it used around 85% RAM on average, the OS constant at about 650MB and a few other processes talking it up to almost 1GB. I'm a light user as far as games but lots of apps. Exchanged for the 64/4 and couldn't be happier - plenty of ROM to spare, lots of room for apps. I had a lot open and switching between them it never suffered or bogged down.
its always worth it to have more RAM . you can never have too much, IMO
The problem seems solved since I started using 64GB SD card as internal storage and migrating heavy apps to it. Pls see screenshots.
Update : That seems a temporary illusion of getting problem solved, but the high ram usage issue is still there even after flashing a NPN25.137-35 on 3gb Indian Varaint.

Going to buy the Exynos and not sure anymore

Hi guys today im going to buy the S10+ Exynos and after reading all the bad things about the battery and camera im not sure anymore.
Is the battery life on idle going to be fixed? Is the lower quality of camera in the Exynos version is going to be fixed too?
Between the OnePlus 7 pro and the S10+ Exynos which would you choose?
Oneplus has had the worst camera of any major smartphone brand for several years running which is why the XDA section for every OnePlus phone has very active threads about using various builds of the ported Google Pixel Camera--you can't take even decent pictures on a OnePlus phone without a ported camera app.
If photography is your concern considering a OnePlus phone is a joke.
Anyone who has owned a OnePlus phone over the last few years should also know that standby battery drain is a frequent problem on their phones--especially after any OTA update.
The only advantage the OnePlus phone will have is if you want to run a custom ROM because there will be more ROMs available for their phones--but since developers stopped using OnePlus phones after the 3T model the ROMs are computer compiled with virtually no testing and always have bugs (sometimes major ones) even when they are labeled as stable.
My vote isn't for the OnePlus phone in case that isn't obvious enough.
I have both a 7 pro and a S10+. I find myself reaching for the 7 pro a lot more. Oxygen OS is just lightweight and fast, you can expect bi monthly updates for atleast 2 years.
Oneplus has pushed several updates for the camera and I find the camera solid. You can get better results with installing gcam but a lot of S10 owners do the same.
I just took delivery of a 10+ Exynos and the camera is excellent in my opinion.

I'd highly recommend the S10+.
I moved from an iPhone 8 plus and don't regret it. Battery life is amazing and the camera is amazing as well. No issues here.
I recall seeing a setting somewhere on my S10+ for a battery save option that learns your usage patterns and helps get the best battery life. Battery optimiser I think it was. Not sure how good it is though. Never needed it.
Can't argue with the points about the OnePlus 7 Pro either. Tested one in store and the experience was buttery smooth. The 90hz display makes a ton of difference.
In the end, I felt OxygenOS on the OnePlus was too simplistic for me after using the S10+ first. Just my personal opinion though. If I hadn't tried the S10 first I probably would have went OnePlus
