Can I change my china stable rom to any other rooted rom for my Mi Note2? - Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I would like to change my china stable rom to any other rom without unlocking bootloader because my unlocked application was already rejected by MIUI teams. I don't know why?So funny Miui and try to give me so much trouble and boring!!!!Are they making so much rules and policies whithout enough services and responsibilities for international users?
Especially for me is.....
1. I don't want my phone with Chinese font because I don't understand that.
2. I want root access in my phone because I want to customize and clean out some of bloatware.
3. I want install TWRP in my phone.

Unfortunately you need unlocked bootloader to install TWRP and get full root. You can get partial root from the security app permissions on the china developer ROM but from my experience you can't modify system partition.
I would try request unlock permission again and type in something like you want to unlock to try out some ROMs.

Hi,
I am glad you found a way how to install twrp, root it and to get xposed installer installed. I am also a happy owner of the Mi note 2 (global). I've just unlocked it but don't exactly know how to install twrp and how to root it. Could you please explain how you did it?
Many thanks + best regards,
Xsandro

Thanks to this forum I actually found a way to successfully install TWRP (http://en.miui.com/thread-415853-1-1.html)
In order to root it I just downloaded SR2-SuperSU-v2.79-SR2, copied it to the TWRP folder of my note 2 and installed it via TWRP. Now I can install all my Titanium backups from my old phone.

[Q] an American trying to use google apps on a chinese Xiaomi Redmi Note 4g

hello!
I recently bought a Redmi Note 4g and I'm trying to set it up so it's actually useful to me. I've tried downloading the apk for google play app store, doesn't work. I think it might be because I'm using a Chinese ROM, but I have so far failed to replace my current ROM with a Global version, and I'm not sure why.
model number HM NOTE 1LTE
Android Version 4.4.4 KTU84P
MIUI version 6.4.1.0 (KHICNCB) Stable
is the global ROM sufficient? if so, how do I install it? I have attempted this, but I'm not very knowledgeable, and have so far failed to understand the directions provided.
do I need a custom ROM?
all I really need is the ability to use google apps, I think. please help!

The Playstore app requires google services framwork installed as a system app, for that you need root access and/or a custom recovery

I think you are using chinese version, you need to update version by installing global version.
you can download the ROm , en miui forum
, save file in the root of memory internal, boot into recovery and choose update
Provided you have developer edition ROM (which comes pre-rooted) I had the same issue. Just search the Web for "Google installer for Xiaomi and you'll find an apk which will let you install Google Play and subsequently all the Google Apps.

Mi Max Helium 3gb/64gb - first review (and ROM flash tips)

Hi,
guess this will be more of a review as it is hard to say which feature i like BEST:
Got my MAX 3gb/64gb (helium) delievered yesterday. Since it came with the 7.3 MIUI first thing i had to do was read up on how to install the MIUI8 China dev rom to the device. After a bit of fiddling and translating chinese / indian websites i came up with a workable solution, even with the bootloader locked. So since yesterday evening i got MIUI8 6.6.23 running on the device - weeded out some apps i did not understand (chinese) and installed Play Store.
So far i must say - this phone is glorious. MIUI8 is fast and seemingly stable, i did not come across any big bugs and there doesnt even seem to be the typical micro-stuttering. Im really happy i bought the phone and hoping there will be a multilanguage (i.e. german) MIUI8 for it. For now im perfectly good with the Dev Rom and english localisation.
Thanks Xiaomi!
To anybody interested - flashing the China Development ROM (MIUI 8 6.6.23) with the locked bootloader was not exactly easy, here is how to:
- get the rom image from here: http://en.miui.com/thread-299033-1-1.html (be sure to download the Mi Max Pro fastboot image - 1418mb)
- get MiFlash Beta from here: http://xiaomitips.com/download/new-miflash-beta-one-click-install-miui-fastboot-rom/
- extract tgz fastboot image - keep folder structure!
- enable developer options -> usb debugging in additional settings then turn off phone
- boot phone into EDL mode (phone off, press simultaneously vol+&vol- then connect usb cable)
- open miflash beta - there should be an entry with "id 1" and "device" something like "COM10" in the bottom table now - SEE ATTACHED SCREENSHOTS!
- select the folder where extracted image is located
- tick "clean all" in the bottom right
- hit flash
- enjoy.
First of all, thank you for sharing this. I went step by step (vol up and down didn't work for me, tried power and vol up and device didn't show up in fast boot, did vol down and power and it showed up) then I flashed the image and it successfully flashed, when the device booted it still showed the 7.4.16 global stable Rom the vendor installed : /, I did it again and the same thing, the rom didn't change. could you please help/?
Sorry, I followed the steps exactly as described and it worked out perfectly, thank you very much, its just that when I pressed vol + and - I didn't see anything on the screen so I thought it wasn't working, miui 8 is nice indeed, could you explain how you installed the play store, the one on the Mi store is crashing on me.
it's a little tricky but there is a thread on here that should get you started. you have to use the Google installer and then update some Google components before you restart your phone.

6.6.23 is older (june 23)
6.7.7 is the newest sofar (July 7)
I use the weekly multi rom on my MI Max since its better tuned with translations and the china apps that I don't use are removed
https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-7-7-11.32639/
the process for installing the new Version does not change with the newer miui8 6.7.7 so you're good to go with the same Instructions from OP.
Meanwhile on my Max I have boot loader unlocked and root. Works flawlessly with the new MIUI weekly Releases.

Thanks a lot for you experience sharing,
I was wondering maybe you solved this: i can't get whatsapp to run on this rom, even with all permissions given, whatapps and skype cant access my contacts. I got my contacts on the system using the old google installer apk which worked wonders except now i can't get past the looking for backup screen in whatsapp.
If anyone has ideas pls let me know and in the meanwhile i will try to flash other roms to see if one works..
I answered my own question playing with the settings. You have to register under accounts mi accounts to unable contact sync for all apps .... ? anyway it all works now!
BTW I have updated MUIU using http://en.miui.com/download-302.html#446 new dev rom and followed instructions.

Thanks heaps for the tutorial about installing Google Play services
By the way, can this rom you're talking about be flashed following the instructions by original poster?
Do I need to flash in first place the rom from original poster (MIUI 8 6.6.23) and then flash your new one (MIUI 8 6.7.14)?
Or can I flash directly latest one?

I can't tell you for sure but i think you have to use the instructions from the muiu site if you want the lastest dev rom.
1- I used OP instructions and links to install muiu 8
2- updated to last china dev rom following muiu site instructions.
3- installed all gapps stuff
PS if you want to ROOT, do this between 2 and 3: (unlocked boot loader)
1-Download SuperSu to root Xiaomi Mi Max and copy it to your phone sd card from this site: http://www.stechguide.com/root-install-twrp-recovery-xiaomi-mi-max/
2-Download xiaomi twrp flasher and use it to flash from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max/development/tool-xiaomi-twrp-flasher-mauronofrio-win-t3405207
3-Follow instructions from step 9 : http://www.stechguide.com/root-install-twrp-recovery-xiaomi-mi-max/
Last thing im playing with trying to activate LTE bands on the phone. If anyone can help for that, i can't get the drivers to install propertly

TUTORIAL - Installing CM13 on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition 'Kate'

I recently bought myself a Redmi Note 3 Pro Special Edition (Kate) for its ability to run an official build of CM13 and, importantly, because Kate offers Band 20 support - a major advantage for UK usage.
As you may realise, getting CM13 onto Kate is somewhat more complex than getting it running on Kenzo. This is due to both the bootloader not being able to be unlocked officially and also because the Radios in Kate are different to those in Kenzo.
After figuring everything out over the weekend, I managed to flash the Official Nightly CM13 onto my Kate device & everything ran perfectly!
I wrote up the process in my Blog in quite a bit of detail, so feel free to have a read if you wish to install CM13 on your Kate edition of the Redmi Note 3.

My tutorial is very thorough - every step is taken into account, taking a phone as it would be out of the box running MIUI to having a fully working CM13 installed. If it wasn't complicated, I wouldn't have written a tutorial .
Thanks for the info though - the text and the ROM is all in Chinese but may be of use to someone.
Thank you for work. I will trying it till my kate comes. Doesn't band 20 and 8 work?

A very well written and comprehensive guide, thanks! I've been seeing so many support requests all over the place that i'm still a bit hesitant to flash CM13. Have you noticed /ANY/ issues with hardware support? Dual sim, cameras, FP-reader? Is there anything that works worse on CM than MIUI7 stable?
Thanks again for a good guide, subscribed to your blog too

The Special Edition (Kate) phone supports the following bands:
LTE B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20/28 ( 2100/1900/ 1800/ 1700/ 850/ 2600/ 900/ 800/ 700MHz)
Kenzo does not support Bands 2, 20 and 28.

I must admit that the Note 3 is not my main phone - a Xiaomi Mi Max contains my primary SIM at the moment - so I have not tested it as much as I would like.
At this point (only having had the phone on CM13 for a few days) I have experienced one bug where I used the fingerprint sensor to unlock & the device unlocked, but to a black screen. Turning the screen off with the power button and then unlocking again with the fingerprint resolved this. I have only seen this once, but I did see it.
Generally, everything seems to work well - performance is great (smoother than MIUI) and both cameras and the fingerprint sensor work as expected. I haven't tried Dual SIM, or indeed a MicroSD card in the device, so I can't comment on this.
The bottom line is that it is a little too early for me to say whether I would use CM13 on the Note 3 if it was my primary phone. A safer bet is to use MIUI and set the phone up to turn off some of the oddities of MIUI. I posted about how I set up my phone here:
http://mikestechlife.blogspot.com/2016/10/guide-to-setting-up-xiaomi-miui-phone.html
On my main Mi Max I use Xiaomi.eu weekly on MIUI 8 with it set up as outlined above. CM13 only has partial supported on the Mi Max, so I don't want to go down this route with my Max.
That's quite the tutorial! Lots of good information there.
1. Xiaomi only support bootloader unlocking on Chinese Developer firmwares. There is NO Chinese firmware available for Kate - only Global ROMs. It is therefore impossible to officially unlock a Kate phone.
Click to collapse
Not true, at least in my experience. I've officially unlocked my Kate using global dev MIUI8 v6.10.13. Followed these steps.. This particular MIUI release comes with a setting in the dev menu to check for unlocked bootloader and other things.
Now, I'm hoping I wasn't an exception, and officially unlocking Kate has now become just as easy for everyone.
Also, there's a ROM that's quite CM13-like and officially supports Kate and its radio. I come from a 2013 Moto G running CM13 nightlies and I don't miss CM13 after using this for a few days in my Kate. The experience is almost the same, and at least on my Kate, everything's running fine.
Too bad that Xiaomi is playing part lottery when making the phone, seems they can't be bothered to update their sources for all the part providers they're using. I guess we can't complain much when a phone of this caliber is so affordable.
I noticed that Xiaomi.eu have produced a build for Kate this week:
https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-10-27.35843/
Cheers bud great tutorial.
I was using the latest Global Dev Rom and after the first boot loading TWRP it gave me a prompt for password. I could not access storage. Just fully wiped the device with TWRP/Advanced/Wipe Data and did the install. CM13 just booted on my device with a locked bootloader.
Biggie ups!
Does this work with cm 14 too?

Now some words from me,
Hi I am Omer, I own a Mi Max 3 and Huawei Mate 20 X.
today I ordered a Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition and therefore I am going to be a part of this community.
I am going to update this thread with any upcoming update, just like I did for Mi Max 3 thread.
I am also going to buy a Black Shark 3 Pro for daily use but that phone cant be unlocked.
I hope you enjoy your phones!
if you have any questions feel free to ask!
by the way:
In order to improve the communication performance and stability of the mobile phone, will be upgraded the Qualcomm baseline - Redmi K30 Pro will be suspended from May 25. It is expected to be suspended for about three weeks. This upgrade does not affect the stable version.
Great job!!!
Thanks for doing this like it should be done. I tried but my tutorial is **** compared to this. Cheers ?
Okay, my Bootloader is unlocked and i did the install the current (may 24th) beta version of the xiaomi.eu ROM.
The installation was a bit rough around the edges: The currently available TWRP comes from a chinese developer and starts with chinese language. You can't read a thing.
Fortunately, i have used twrp so often already that i remembered how to change the language without having to read the buttons.
Having installed TWRP via fastboot, i booted into it, changed language and formatted the data partition under "Wipe". Then i connected my pc, transferred the ROM file to the phone and installed it.
I was a bit disappointed that my dear F2 changed it's personality immediately: it identified as Redmi K30 Pro from the first boot on. I know this "problem" from my Mi 9T Pro where the xiaomi.eu ROM changes its name to Redmi K20 Pro, but there was a patch in xiaomi.eu's K20 Pro forum that reversed this effect when flashed via TWRP. This kind of patch does not exist for the Poco F2 as of now, so i guess i'll have to live with it.
Other than that, all seem to run well. First boot took a couple of minutes, but Installation went smoothly and phone is restoring my configuration and installing all my apps right now.
Magisk 20.4 is installed and working. Let's hope that new beta versions will appear next week.

Im pretty sure this is because they are based on the china rom which is available for the redmi k30 pro/zoom
If xiaomi can differentiate between zoom and regular editions on kernel level (they share same kernel and same rom), Im sure that xiaomi.eu forums will be able to create a patch for poco if needed.

Hello mate, i was trying to install it to my f2pro and it all ended in bootloop, it is mandatory to wipe the data partition before installing the rom? Is there any tutorial? I tried to install it twice ending in bootloop and having to install the official rom with the xiaomi rom tool.
Thanks!

Hello there,
In the installation instructions it says what to wipe and what you shouldn't wipe. I think you need to go back to stock and try again.
Cheers ?
Wow thanks for this! Need to wait for a week for Xiaomi to unlock my device (such a bummer as Oneplus don't have this waiting game). Any how, I hope (like it's brother K20 Pro/Premium), there will be AOSP, Lineage and PA flavored roms that will support our beloved Redmi K30 Pro/Zoom/Poco F2 Pro.
Thanks for your efforts on making this thread!
Great to see the development for his device has started .
Does the MIUI Dialer also have the build-in call recorder?

In my experience (also from my Mi 9T Pro before), you not only need to wipe the data partition, you even need to format it (can be found under "Wipe" in TWRP) when coming from stock rom to xiaomi.eu for the first time.
Once on xiaomi.eu ROM, you can install newer versions by dirty flashing: no need to wipe your data partition, your apps, data and settings survive.

Thanks for confirming. I can finally unlock my bootloader today (had a waiting period of 360 hours..), guess I'll flash this rom directly after that since my device will be wiped with unlocking now anyway.
Did you use the TWRP from this tread?

I'm not sure from which source i downloaded it, since it was some days before my bootloader unlock time ran out, but the file is named "recovery-TWRP-3.4.1B-0328-REDMI_K30PRO-CN-wzsx150.img"
At the moment, this seems to be only working TWRP for the Poco F2. Since it comes from a chinese developer, you have to change the language to English first, unless your fluent reading chinese.
To do that, you have to pull the slider on the bottom of the start screen to the right, then use the third button from the top in the second column of buttons (which is the "Settings" button) and then use the small globe symbol in the upper right of the screen.
Hi all, i want to report one bug:
Whenever enter to a game with full screen mode and play it for a while, the full screen gesture can not be use any more. So i have to press power button to lock my phone(game is running) then unlock the phone to come to the game. Here i can use the gesture as normal.
Yep

Yes. It has the call recorder ?
I just succesfully unlocked, rooted and installed the MIUI 11 Stable. Restoring now, so far so good.
And the call recorder is working perfectly indeed (Y)

i read on the xiaomi eu forum that on one of the weekly roms, the mic was not working on calls https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/no-voice-during-the-call.56159/ . Can you check if the mic works if you call somebody? I am just waiting for my unlock timer to end and want to install xiaomi eu.
As im writing this, the new xiaomi eu stable miui 12 came out, just for your information. The problem with the mic was on miui 12 so i hope they included a fix for the stable version before rolling it out.
Unfortunately, the stable MIUI 12 is not yet for us. Just for MI10, MI10Pro, HMK20MI9T, HMK305G.
No beta
No beta for this week either, links for the 20.6.16 were published and there is nothing for the K30 Pro neither the Mi10 nor Mi 10 Pro

Mi A1 Flashing

Hi,
I have a Redmi Mi A1 phone which got bricked when I gave to a local mobile service shop to downgrade OS since VoLTE was not working. After which I got only White Light notification or sometimes just a vibrate. Tried to install Firmware through EDL mode and tried all possible ways but no luck. Hence my cousin who was working in that service shop changed motherboard from another device which was Chinese board. He installed MUI11 after which it was asking for MI Account credentials as it was locked. Then he again tried various ways and disabled Mi Account check. Now I am able to use the mobile but there was no Gapps installed so I was installing all apps through apk. Now question is
1) If I flash a custom ROM or StockROM will the Mi Account check get enabled?
2)If I can flash StockROM with VoLTE fully fuctional which ROM should I flash?
3)Can I flash StockROM with TWRP will that not create any issues?
Sorry I am a newbie so kindly request to give me solution in detail.
i think he replaced your motherboard with mi 5x that is similar phone to mi a1 and work on Android 8 MIUI Firmware. and i think you cant flash stock 9.0 rom on it. before doing anything just make sure it's mi a1 motherboard or not
Hi ranjodhricky,
Yes u are absolutely correct it shows model as MI 5X. Problem is whatever i open it shows chinese language like browser etc., Also as i said gapps are not installed so there is no play store etc., I wanna install fresh ROM with full english version with all essential gapps installed can u guide me pls. I need to get rid of chinese language.

Hi,
Thanks for the reference link. I will check out for sure. One more thing is since it was asking to unlock Mi account he removed something and when I start the phone I get below error message. Let me know if I install new firmware will that cause to lock my device again???
It says " Application Find device(processcom.xiaomi.finddevice) is waiting for the debugger to attach"
goto "settings" and find "Developer Option"
scroll down and find "Select Debug App" and choose "Nothing" in it. i think it will solve the problem.
if you can't find Developer Option goto About and tap 7 times on "build number" or "Miui Version" to unlock developer option.
Thanks for suggestion. I am not able to install ROM as bootloader is locked am not able to unlock it since I do not know the credentials......so tried flashing MIUI 11.0.3 ROM again using Mi Flash tool through edl mode.....everything went well and rom got installed but to my surprise again it showed Mi Account locked I am not able to do anything.....
Let me know if there is any way I can by pass mi unlock....or let me know if there is any other way I can install new ROM???
for bypassing mi account search the the Google or youtube I think you'll find some solution
I have flashed the custom ROM and I try to install google pixel experience Android 11 ...but at the time of installation getting Error :1...I don't know what to do..
