Frozen home buttons when overheating (Asus Zenfone 3 ZE520KL) - Asus ZenFone 3 Questions & Answers

This smartphone is awesome, it barely overheats and runs perfectly smooth most of the time. Yesterday I finally managed to get it to overheat by playing a game while charging it (I played Badland and I was really into the game, so I plugged my device in, because I wanted to finish the last level). So it didn't lag or anything but it became a bit hot and the back/home/task manager buttons stopped working, no matter how many times I touch them. I restarted the device and they started working again, but then stopped again. When the phone cooled off, they started working normally like nothing was wrong with them.
My concern is - can this become an issue in the future (like someday the buttons will stop functioning permanently), should I worry about this or should I just try not to overheat my device (like not using it when it's charging for games). Has anyone else ever had an issue like this? Thank you!

HTC P3600i Freezing Problem

Hi Guys,
I'm new here, but have been following and reading these forums for quite some time now. Great Stuff!
anyhow, my problem, recently purchased a HTC P3600i PRO. Put a custom ROM on it, seemed to be running great over the last few weeks, but my problem is this. Now and then my phone pda will lock up and I'm forced to reset it. What happens is, I am still unsure as to why this happens, but lately it's started freezing up, and when I click on my start button, it shows my menu, and then when I click programs, it shows as "empty" when I know there's nothing empty, it's filled with stuff, randomly this happens to my settings window as well. Basically stuff randomly dissapears from my start menu, shortly after, 5 to 10 seconds, it locks up. The next thing I do or click on after seeing things disappearing from my menu, it freezes. I then have to do a soft reset, and after doing a soft reset, it's as if it's done a hard reset and wants me to re-configure the time, click on all 4 corners, etc.. I use have to use SPB Backup to do a full restore of my phone/settings/contacts/software etc..
Can anyone help?
Also, just to update.. I restored my phone with a backup today, and it seems to be running well again for some strange reason. Is it because it's overheating? getting hot or what? I'm not sure what it's doing. Please help
Figured it out
My backlight whilst on battery was set to brightest. figured it was overheating as it felt warm too.. I turned it right down to 3 bars from lowest, and it's fine now
Guess it my screen and battery were getting quite hot and the CPU was overheating. All resolved.
I got a HTC p3600 for about 10 months. i used to have the backlight set to minimum.
now i update my rom and it got crashes so often, almost every day, and I need soft restart the device all the time when get crash.
The worse, sometime my display picture just broken + crash, and I need more than once to restart the pda. When I restart the device sometime the display just turn black color moving from top to bottom, or sometime with colourfull dots on screen, and the device does not want to be restart.
In that case i take the battery to turn off the device.
Sometimes i need to wait some minutes until i can restart normally the system.
It usually crashes when it is connected to the computer via usb (charging the battery) and i need to use it. (i check and it is very hot)
Also, when i use wifi it tends to crash (very hot too)
Since i upgrade the rom my backlight settings are set higher...i reduce the backlight, to reduce heat and test the system stability, but i really think it is crashing due to overheating.

[Q] Phone Randomly Becomes Unresponsive

So I've attempted to debug this best I could but I've come up with absolutely nothing thus far.
About a month ago, I'd say, I started having very infrequent complete lock-ups. I'd pick up the phone and try to turn on the screen and nada. It would still be running as the notification LED would sometimes pulse according to my Lightflow settings. Plugging it into my computer, it appeared as an unrecognized device and adb wouldn't be able to get anything from it. I've never had this happen while I was actively using the phone, mind.
Holding down the power button until it force shuts down and rebooting it works just fine, but it's a bit annoying and worrying to have it go blank every few days. Once, it was even completely working but the touchscreen would not respond regardless of what I tried.
I since did a factory reset, thinking it might've been a kernel issue (I was running on faux's kernel) and it went fine for a week but it just did it again... And this is on stock 4.4.2, rooted, without any new app in a long time (ie. I can't think of an app that I'd have installed when the crashing started).
Any ideas, short of writing it off as the occasional problem and planning on a much earlier replacement than initially expected?

It's an inherent issue with some displays present on the Moto G4. It most often happens when you charge your phone. Too much current builds into the frame of the display and you get weird ghost and jitter touches.
No way around it unless you send it in, and even then it may be only a temporary fix.
I also face this issue. Unable to find solid solution for this. Finally i decied to go for custom rom like RR and Invicta. This still comes occasionally(when Heats too much during phone charging)

On my phone this happens while not charging. Seems to happen about one out of every 3 times the phone is unlocked using the fingerprint sensor. Locking the screen and unlocking via a pin seems to be a reliable way of getting past the issue. Though occasionally it happens on the pin entry screen before it the pin has been entered. Needless to say, it IS annoying.
Same problem which is fixed.
I had this problem with the factory firmware too, intermittent bouts of the phone going crazy with phantom touches on my Moto G4. I sent it to Motorola/Lenovo after the supplier gave me their phone number and they did find the problem and fix it. Now I can play graphic intensive games even during fast charge and the phone is awesome for once. : )
Please note they will fix it for free if in warranty and bootloader not yet modified.
Pressing power button to turn off the display and then pressing power button again to turn the display back on will provide temporary relief from jittery screen. I noticed that the jittery screen has twice subsided over time but came back twice immediately after OS upgrade so blaming the problem on charging, or hardware doesn't seem accurate.

As a last ditch effort prior to buying a replacement phone I deleted all apps I installed, reset phone and reinstalled fresh copies of most if the apps I needed.
I don't recall every thing I did but my focus was to delete everything I could and then reset phone back to factory state. After reinstalling, my jittery problem went away and has not returned. Your millage may very, so no promises. Phil
. I have touch screen issue(ghost touch) but this time not screen burn issue.. Now there is in winter.. I have checked battery temperature with ex kernel manager. When i go outside in fog or cool weather and when battery temprature goes to less than 20 degree Celsius phone gonna mad..back key home button automatically pressed..Is there any solution? Without going service center And fix battery battery temperature to 25 degree.?
phone going crazy
Hi,
I am having the same exact problem. I have observed that Google Assistant is intruding because each time this happens, Google Assistant is trying to run. Reboot is a temporary fix but the problem persists. I have removed most of the third party apps just to see if anything changes but it did not work.
This is not something that was happening from the start. I have the phone for about 2 months put the problem only started a couple weeks ago. I would love to hear if there is a solution and what. Thanks
Sadly, but compared to the issues visible indoors, in outdoors this Lenovo gift turns complete crap:
youtu.be/dTcHclVEfCg
"Lenovo Moto Z2 Force touchscreen gets completely unusable when getting outdoors! The video is made at about 0 degrees Celsius. So it takes about 30 sec from getting MotoZ2 Frc to sleep with pwr btn (and wakeing up back) to see the touchscreen goes crazy. At -10C, it takes ~5 sec. At +15-20C, after several min it becomes unresponsive and have to use pwr button to recover.
Lenovo, what you have done to Motorola ?!!"
Can it be fixed somehow with changing the upper protective part? I have seen comments that the touchscreen can stop working completely, if peel off the cover part..

Screen Freezes During Gaming

Hi all,
I've gotten this weird issue where my touch screen would freeze momentarily and randomly whenever I play some games (i.e. Scribblenauts Unlimited, NFS No Limits, GTASA, and Dead Trigger 2). While unlocking and waking up the phone would fix this issue immediately, I find these freezes to be extremely annoying. Interestingly, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp seems to be free from this issue. In addition, I've never experienced it outside of games.
Initially, I did suspect heat to be behind it, but then I found out that those freezes also happen whenever I just boot up those games (and therefore the phone is yet to heat up). Anyone has any idea on what's going on here? I really hope it's not some kind of funky HW defect.
OK, here's an update: I'm quite positive that this is a software issue. Just had the freeze again but I could access notification shade. The shade worked and I tried to open up setting menu, and it worked. Now, the touchscreen worked flawlessly in setting and the subsequent home menu... and when I went back to the game, it froze again.
And I think this one's also relevant: a user over at reddit said that their screen would also freeze whenever they touch the phone's back while playing. Well, I happen to not touch the PH-1's back whenever I'm playing Pocket Camp thanks to its portrait orientation...

Mi9T random shutdown

So this happened like a week ago and I thought it was some weird coincidence but it happened again twice today. The phone just randomly shuts down, it only seems to happen while playing pubg. I'm in the middle of a game and the phone just turns off but it makes this noise like when a circuit shuts down it's not a noticeable noise but still quite weird. It happened a while ago in the middle of a game and today I opened a hotspot for a friend while playing at the same time and it did this...I also turned the hotspot off and played and it did this again.
IDK what to do...possible defective unit ? Or maybe it's a problem with the game itself ?

I guess u should go for a replacement or a refund and I think it is a battery cable problem
Yeah I think it's a battery problem too since it only seems to happen when the battery drain is high, my device is only 3 months old so its still under warranty.
I'll monitor it throughout this week, if this persists I'll definitely swing by Xiaomi.
(Device is completely stock btw even the bootloader is still locked)
Did you manage to find the problem? I got my 9T pro for around 4 months now and it also started to shut off multiple times a day. Not during any particular heavy loads or apps/games. Just random it shuts down. Really annoying and I have no Idea if this is software of hardware related problem.
