Root H830 running 20A and 20C [Nougat] AutoMagically (Custom Easy Recowvery Script) - T-Mobile LG G5 ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other

I posted this as a reply originally. Then thought it probably should be a thread so it can help as many people as possible! Let's get the custom kernels and ROMs going for this beautiful device!
You will need to already have Android 20A (C should be fine as well) stock image installed, and the bootloader unlocked [Plenty of easy help via Google won't cover that here]
You can use the Recowvery Method on 20A (Nougat) (again this should be the same for 20C) with the H830. Below is the script I used with supersu and no-verity script included. Plug-in the device to your Windows machine. Install LG drivers, and remember to unlock screen and authorize the computer via the Device's screen so ADB commands can run (unnecessary tech note: you could open command prompt cd to where this is and use it's ADB to run adb devices (if you don't understand that no worries skip it)). After that just run the script and follow the menus. Answer yes when asked if you're sure you wish to continue, and done. I hope you find my work helpful .
I used this guy's script [Easy Recowvery ALL CREDITS TO THE AUTHOR I'M JUST SUPPLYING AN H830 SPECIFIC PACK WITH NEEDED FILES THAT I VERIFIED FULLY WORK. PLEASE GO RATE HIS THREAD AND CLICK THANKS IF THIS WORKS FOR YOU!]: http://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/h918-recowvery-unlock-v20-root-shell-t3490594
DON'T FORGET
This should work granted you have the drivers installed, and Windows has finished installing them, you tapped the prompt on your device screen to allow the adb connection, and you run script as administrator, and you restart the computer if you run adb commands yourself and aren't comfortable checking task manager to kill any and all running adb instances (could also issue the stop server command too), but if unsure of any or all of that last statement, restart
Of note answer yes when it says this isn't a V20 are you sure you wish to continue?. Also, as stated in notes I had to actually run it twice for it to stick for me (I'm sure I rushed the first time or something).
I took the time to create an H830 package of the script version with the files that worked for me. Out of respect I changed nothing aside from adding the needed files and throwing quick notes in the readme.md (bottom of file) file. (PLEASE read it, if you have issues read it you missed something). You will also still need to type yes when it states this is not a V20; Do you wish to continue? <Yes>.
. I used this package to root my H830 after the Nougat OTA killed my root access so
SHOULD WORK ON ANY H830 RUNNING STOCK 20A (should work with 20C) [NOUGAT] Read the following paragraph if you skip the rest
Read the readme.md file found in root of archive (see bottom of file).
Start it up hit like 5 for TWRP and supersu (or there's another menu option for just supersu or just TWRP whatever you desire).
Answer yes to the prompt to continue.
Now wait for the magic (again not mine this is the authors work)).
Once done you can download a reboot to recovery app or widget (or root checker) and verify that you're good to go.
If it doesn't take the first time you may need to run it again. DON'T FREAK OUT, RUN SCRIPT AGAIN IT CAN TAKE MULTIPLE RUNS.
Don't forget to install BusyBox (Stericson installer recommended and I use /su/bin personally (/su/xbin should also be fine) Since we're talking stock here generally I like to minimize any changes to /system if it can be helped personally; so I haven't tried running BusyBox from any /system mount) as this is a stock ROM.
Kernel Adiutor works and yes I recommend leaving thermald enabled as your thermal governor unless you flash a custom kernel (not included)
Manual Boot to Recovery:
Start With phone off (pinch battery button and re-insert battery if you can't otherwise shut it down or are lazy like me )
Hold both Power AND Volume Down at same time
1-2 seconds in to seeing LG Logo release and hold power button while continuing to hold volume down the entire time...
Release once you see white screen prompting yes or no to wipe user data (don't freak) ¹
use volume key to highlight yes
Hit Power key (think enter)
¹(If you have factory recovery this WILL format all user data and settings you've been warned. Only way to boot to stock recovery is to use app, widget, or terminal/adb command (reboot recovery). I don't know of any manual physical button methods to access stock recovery directly.).
You should now see TWRP Loading and can release any keys if you're holding any down still (once white wipe screen is seen you should release the keys)
Sweet, the file is small enough to be attached to this post directly, Enjoy! Also it's a 7-zip archive. It's available for every OS. For Android if you use ES File Explorer the first time you try to use a 7z file it'll offer to download plug-in, and you're good to read/write 7z archives (best compression almost always imho).

It doesn't seem to work for me, it reboots and the little android says No Command. Any suggestions?

well I ran the script ,Im afraid what was happening earlier is happening here to,when the script tries to flash Supersu it reboots to Firmware Update screen,Im fairly certain thats not right...am I correct? Gonna try to pull out (lol) before that screen loads like I did with the other method...

Ahhh I miss being able to root without a PC. I don't own one ?

Can anyone confirm this works fine? I won't have time for troubleshooting if it doesn't..

I did this but am still getting the no command issue

This method worked for me after about 5 failed attempts. The OP guide is not very clear, I might write my own and post it today.

I did get the no command issue in recovery, the first time I did it, disabling integrity verification solved the problem when I did my next time, but I got some other issues before this solution worked.

My problem is, i am on Mac in parallels i can't list my phone in adb devices command. it shows as empty. Installed every possible app scenarios but still looks empty

Check out my guide on rooting Nougat, https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/guide-root-stock-n-using-jcadduonos-t3529093

Can confirm this does work. Took me 30 tries but it worked!

Lg G Tab 10.1 Vk700 Root Method Confirmed!

This Has been confirmed to work on VzTab May not work when lolipop comes. So i found this on accident and tryed these two methods together to get the end desired result. Root Access! The first thing to adress is if your using windows 7 or 8 its a bitc# to get adb to recognize that your devices is connected. So if this becomes a problem i can find the link i used to address it. So you will download all the required files that go along with this 1st method contained here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3049772
Along with the lg drivers youll need the tablet to install the verizon software upgrade assistant too.
Fallow all of the processes until you reach the download mode. I could not figure out how to manually push buttons to make it into download mode so use this next link and run all the procedures till its in download mode.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951
Now you have the desired screen fallow the rest of the instructions from the first tut. Then press and hold power and volume buttons to reset. Since you cant take battery out or command it to reset. The Downloader will indicate 0% still so dont think it failed if it doesnt say 100%.
and too root the lollipop update download the files off rootjunkys site awesome work lol yes it was originally for the note 4 but shush it works
install kingroot (yes its in chinese dont worry we will be installing supersu very soon)
make sure adb is working and usb debugging is enabled which if you are on here i safely assume you are
extract the supersume zip (1 or 2 i couldnt see a diff)
and run the superme bat file (it will walk you through it )
itll soft reboot when done and you are solid and it will hold root
yes the bat will say disableing knox again it was for the note 4 but works fine ive done this
link to get files : http://rootjunkysdl.com/?device=Gala...=Kitkat Root
I don't have this tablet but replacing kinguser with supersu should be doable on this tablet as well (I did it on my forge tv)
http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2015/05/How-to-Remove-Replace-KingUser-KingRoot-with-SuperSU.html
all you do is install terminal emulator and copy files and run the command.
So now i cant upgrade to lolipop im guessing due to the fact it knows its modified now it will give error at 1% anyone have the factory image and how would i go about recoving it to stock image would i need cwm recovery to accomplish this? I really just want to upgrade so maybe the bluetooth stack has been fixed so i can use my wii mote to play games.

Thanks for the timely post of this.
Don't know if it's something on my end but the link gives 'access denied', fortunately you had said it was for a note4 so I just looked for that and came up with the right files, just thought you might want to know.
One minor hiccup, and I'm not sure where to post it, so I'll post it here: SuperSu took 5 tries, finally got success, but now it keeps wanting to update the su binary again, it's definitely rooted, and the binary's already updated so...[shrugs]. The app said if there were any problems with it to post it to xda, soooo, here it is, sorry if this is the wrong place to put it.
Other than that tho, it worked great, thanks again!

not that i know of the device is still pretty new
I found this method incredibly easy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951
I just had to put it on PTP instead of MTP. And after the reboot, I had to manually boot it on download mode (following the software's directions).
It's working flawlessly.

Possible way to save any bricked Nexus device!

Hey XDA,
I think google may have just created a way to save any nonbootable bricked nexus with recovery access. Due to some N OTA failures, they just released a side-loadable OTA through recovery. This OTA is actually a full system image and from what I am reading it can be used to saved any bricked device that won't accept another sideloadable OTA. Here is the reddit post and the AP article on it.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/4a0ox6/marshmallow_ota_hose_your_nexus_device_just_flash/
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...t-bricking-some-devices-but-google-has-a-fix/
Good luck guys. I would love to see some success stories here if it works for you and if so, spread the word!
That explains why the OTA for the N preview was the same size as the image, and why after upgrading to March security release I didn't have to download a different OTA to get to N
So is this usable in all situations? If yes then should download it & store it safely
Interesting thing, can this update bypass factory reset protection?

I would assume this could be used in any situation where you have a paper wait. So say you're on marshmallow build and somehow things go wrong ,bootloader locked USB debugging not check ,with this ota you can still sideload but it will be an N build which is fine at least you'll have a working device that now you can revert back to your original build. So I'm keeping this as well. I really don't need to but its nice to have just in case. I normally keep my bootloader unlocked at all times anyways just in case things go haywire... Someone correct me if I'm not correct please. Have a nice weekend all?

Most likely not, because normally when receiving an OTA all of that remains intact but, I think it's worth a test.
This will NOT bypass factory reset protection. This is just an update.zip that is a signed "FULL" image rather than a "DIFFERENCE" image. That means that it just doesn't need to perform the verification step before proceeding to install the update.
There is also another "problem" with relying on these as the ultimate unbrick files, which is that if you happen to install some official build that is NEWER than N-pre1, then the recovery will refuse to "downgrade". So while it may be useful for now while nobody is running anything newer than N-pre1, it isn't a permanent solution.
This is a ligit Fix. Confirmed by me.
Only thing I did different was to use an app called "Nexus Root Toolkit v2.1.4"
Upon launching the app (and there was plenty of prep to get it going on my Windows Vista laptop-my Mini Mac had problems loading in VMWare as WIndows XP so it did not work for me on a Mac)
I clicked on the "Advanced Utilities" section and clicked the "Launch" Tab.
The Advanced Utilities has a section called "Sideload OTA Update", I then clicked on "Sideload Update" and followed the instructions.
It pretty much asked me to select the file location of the Google Patched Image file called "shamu-ota-2659757-073c33ae.zip" (which stays zipped-do not extract it).
Then I followed the instructions on the screen. It did take me several attempts to get right, but in the end it worked as stated... I was so tired of trying to get this work for the last 7 days that I got lazy and despirate and did not take the time to read the instructions on the Nexus Root Toolkit. I had already filled an insurance claim for this because I was sure I could not get this phone back from this problem.
The trickiest issue I had was getting to boot the device into "Recovery" "ADB Sideload" because when I switched it to ADB Sideload, it would stop seeing the device. This is obtained by Power Down, Press Power and Volume Down at the same time, this brings up the Boot menu. You have to use the volume keys up or down to select "Recovery" and press Power again to select it. After about 3 or 4 seconds you see the Dead android with the Red Exclamation Point. That is what you want. Next Press Power and Volume Up, quickly release both and Press the Volume up again. You will finally see the Recovery screen where you will find the "ADB Sideload" option. This missing tidbit I was able to find at the Motorola Nexus Support page.
So, Yes. this worked for me! ...and I am going to cancel that insurance claim after all. :good:
Thanks again to whoever posted this and Google for being man enough to make things right for all the people that got in too deep with this "N Preview" gone wrong.

Thanks for finding this one - one of my 6's was soft bricked ( could only get to fastboot or recovery etc. could not complete reg. boot after signing up for android beta program OTA ).
I was able to ADB sideload the system OTA as described without a hitch. All data / set-up on phone was intact and functional.
Just for the record this Nx6 was only bootloader unlocked - no other mods/changes prior to original Beta OTA.

I could have but I don't have any experience with flashing system images and retaining my settings and data (removing the wipe command in the batch file if I remember correctly).
I was pleased just to be able to handle it as an OTA instead. When I'm working at/near my experience limits I try to take smaller chances. I know working with a alpha release is risky and I'll face the consequences at need. Must have been a considerable number of folks in the same boat as me for Google to have come up with a lower skill level solution (for the likes of me).

Your boot loader is unlocked so...
A. You used a toolkit and don't know the commands that the toolkit uses
B. You bought the phone used with an unlocked bootloader
Toolkits are for just ease of use if you already know the commands , because if you unlocked your bootloader manually this is a simple 5 minute fix if the factory image is already downloaded. sorry for the rant not trying to be rude, just enlightenment.

I'm not sure what you mean by "if the phone has not been authorized to a specific PC". As far as I am aware Android phones are not authorized to a PC, that is an Apple thing...

Update March 8 2017: As you can probably tell, this is very old. I have not worked on the device in several months and I have no idea if these methods are still safe. Please proceed with caution. I will be using one of these on a daily basis in the near future, so I probably will get back into development, and hope to release new content for the phone to help out the community. Please accept this as an official warning that the following is probably out of date and that you should be very careful should you decide to try it. The original post in it's entirety is spoilered below. You have been warned.
Update: A new update was released for the Prime model, V6.6, which replaces the preloader and completely breaks SPFT. If you unlocked your bootloader (so you can use fastboot) in any capacity before taking that update, there may be hope for you yet, but as of right now V6.6 is unsupported. Update: If you used this method to safely* take* the V6.6* update*, this will still work.
Update: I just checked the stats, and this has been downloaded more than 3 thousand times. I never thought my humble little conversion guide would help out so many people. I have also added a new mirror at [REDACTED], so anyone in North America who was having trouble with the Europe mirror, give that one a shot. It should be faster! I have updated all links in the guide to use the new North America mirror, and added a separate Europe mirror link after each link.
Hello! This is a tutorial for converting the Amazon Prime Edition BLU R1 HD to the OEM BLU version. This will overwrite the relevant partitions on your Amazon version of the device with the non-Amazon version. The physical model number on your device will still be a tell (obviously), but besides that, there will be no way to tell your device apart from the regular model! You can also use this method to convert non-Prime to Prime version, and undo OTAs or system modifications. This will restore a 100% out of the box image from either edition on your device.
This will work if you have software version...
V12
V6.1
V6.4
V6.5
SAFE V6.6 FROM THIS THREAD
This will NOT work on software version...
V6.6
The V6.6 update brought a new preloader that breaks our ability to use SPFT. I am currently working on ways to reverse the damage, but as of right now, there is no way to convert (or downgrade) from software V6.6
You can use this on any 16/2 R1 HD with supported software version to...
Convert to the non-Prime OEM version
Convert to the Prime version
Remove ads (via conversion to non-Prime version)
Unroot
Downgrade to V6.1
Downgrade to V12
Undo system alterations/tampers
Restore the system image to the way it was when you first opened the box
Unbrick a device (if bricked because of bad system/recovery/boot image)
There are a handful of reports about this working flawlessly on the 8/1 model as well. I have not personally tested this, so there is still some risk factor.
This only overwrites the system, recovery, and boot partitions. Any other partitions that have been altered will not be restored. In most cases, other partitions should not have been altered, so this is not a concern. I have a full system backup of all partitions, but there is currently evidence to suggest that it is not safe to flash all of the partitions, so I will not release that backup until more is known.
You *should* be able to safely pull this off without wiping your data. This does not require your phone to be rooted or have any other modifications. You can pull it straight out of the box and do this process! If your phone is rooted, you'll lose it. This will make your phone EXACTLY like the non-Prime version comes out of the box! You can also convert a non-Prime device (or a converted Prime device back) to a Prime device using the same method, but I'm not exactly sure why you would want to. I did this all on Linux, but the Windows should work fine too as long as you have drivers dealt with. If you don't have drivers dealt with, I'm not your guy. I'll just tell you to use a better operating system. You'll also need an archive program that can deal with tar.gz files, because that's how my computer zipped them.
And the standard disclaimer: If this bricks your phone or makes it become sentient and plot with other sentient phones to murder your entire family, it's not my fault. That's all on you, buddy.
Ok, without further ado, on to the tutorial!
First, you need these things. Some of the files are quire large, so it might take a while to download:
You'll need the latest version of Smart Phone Flash Tools, or SPFT for short. You can download that from this site, or from [REDACTED]. Please use the latest version for your OS.
You'll need to download the system image. If you're converting to the non-Prime version, [REDACTED]. If you're converting to the Prime version, [REDACTED]
You need the scatter file. This will tell SPFT where the partitions are. This is the same for both variants, so just download [REDACTED]
Once you have those things, you can start actually flashing your phone:
Power your phone completely OFF! This will not work if your phone is powered on. SPFT writes directly to the phone's memory, bypassing all security measures the phone has, so it requires the phone to be completely OFF to get safe and exclusive access to the memory. DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR PHONE YET!
Extract SPFT into a folder on your computer. If you can't figure out how to do that, please stop tinkering with your phone. It's only a matter of time until you break something.
Extract the system image into the same folder you put SPFT in. The three files (boot.img, recovery.img, system.img) should be in the same folder as all the other SPFT files, including the binaries.
Run SPFT. On Windows, simply double clicking the SPFT executable should do the trick. On Linux, you must run the flash_tool.sh script as root. Open a terminal emulator, cd to the SPFT folder, and run `sudo ./flash_tool.sh`. If you recieve an error about permissions, run `chmod +x flash_tool.sh` and try the first command again.
Go to the Download tab in SPFT and click the Scatter-loading button on the far right side. DO NOT click the Download Agent button. When the file picker dialog pops up, find and open the r1hd-spft-scatter.txt file you downloaded earlier.
You should see a list of partitions. Only three of them (boot, recovery, system) should be checked, and the location should point to the files you extracted from the tar.gz file earlier. If this is not the case, double-click the location block of the boot, recovery, and system partitions, and select the boot.img, recovery.img, and system.img files from your filesystem respectively. After selecting the files, the boxes should check themselves.
From the dropdown in the upper left of the partition list, make sure Download Only is selected. Any other option could damage your device.
Click the Download button in the upper left.
While your phone is OFF, plug it into your computer with a data safe USB cable. The cable that came in the box from the factory is ideal, but any good quality cable will work just fine.
SPFT should start overwriting your phone. If you receive an error from SPFT, unplug your phone, close SPFT, and repeat steps 4 through 9. The whole process takes about 10 minutes, after which you should see a window with a large green checkmark. Once you see that window, you can safely unplug your phone and start it up. You're all done!
And as a bonus, I've also included a guide for unlocking the bootloader, getting custom recovery, and rooting the device after you've done this in post #2. That makes this your one stop shop for getting a brand new Prime phone out of the box!!
HUGE THANKS TO @mrmazak FOR THEORIZING THIS METHOD AND GETTING ME THE NON-PRIME SYSTEM IMAGE TO USE!
As always, if you have any questions, just ask in a thread reply or send me a private message on XDA. {OUTDATED}[GUIDE][OEM][Stock] Bootloader Unlock, TWRP, and root!
Ok, now you've converted your brand new Prime phone to the non-Prime version. How do you unlock this sucker? The conversion process actually unlocks the standard unlock method from the factory, so it's VERY simple! No hoops to jump through or anything. You'll need adb and fastboot. You can get those as part of the official Android developer kit, your distro's repos (on Linux) or Homebrew (on Mac). Of course, this guide works for the normal non-converted non-Prime version as well. This WILL wipe your phone, so make sure you back up any important data before doing this.
This guide is for the OEM (non-Prime) version. If you have the Prime version, convert it to OEM using the guide above BEFORE doing this guide.
The standard disclaimer from above still applies.
This guide is broken up into two parts. Unlocking the bootloader, and rooting the phone. If you are preparing to install Magisk, do the bootloader unlock, skip the rooting part and move on to the Magisk guide. You do not need the files above if you are only unlocking the bootloader. If your bootloader is already unlocked, skip the bootloader unlocking part and skip to rooting the phone. If you are preparing to install Magisk and your bootloader is already unlocked, you shouldn't be here. Also please note that the bootloader can sometimes re-lock itself after completing a conversion/restore from the guide above, especially to/from the Prime version, so if you're not sure, play it safe and re-unlock your bootloader.
Part 1 - Unlocking the bootloader:
Boot up your phone. If you haven't already gone through the initial setup process, go through it. The bootloader unlock process will wipe your phone, so skip as many questions as possible so you don't waste your time.
Open the Settings app, go to About device, fine the Build number (it's toward the bottom), and tap on it 8-10 times (until it says you are now a developer. If it says there's no need and you're already a developer, you can skip to the next step)
Go back to the main Settings menu. You should see a new option where About device used to be, Developer options! Click on it.
Toward the top of the long list of developer options, there is an option called "OEM unlocking". If it's switched off, switch it on. If it's switched on, switch it off and back on again. You may get a warning saying that device protection features won't work. Click Enable and proceed. You may also be prompted to enter your password/PIN/pattern lock if you have one.
Scroll down a little bit to reveal USB debugging. Switch it on if it's not already.
Connect your phone to your computer using a data safe cable. Do not disconnect it until the very end.
On your computer, open a terminal emulator (or Command Prompt with ADB access) and run `adb reboot bootloader`. If you get a message complaining about keys or authorization, check your phone. There should be a window asking for permission for your computer to access the device. Allow it and run the command again.
Your phone will reboot into fastboot mode.
On your computer, run `fastboot oem unlock`. On the phone you will get a warning message talking about the implications of unlocking the bootloader. Press Volume Up to accept them. If everything goes smoothly, your bootloader should now be unlocked. You're not ready to flash quite yet! Flashing at this stage WILL brick your phone, so it's important that you continue following the guide carefully.
On your computer, run `fastboot reboot`. Your phone should reboot anywhere from 3 to 5 times. If it reboots more than that, your phone is bricked and you need to start again by following the guide above again.
Once Android starts up again, you should see the setup wizard. Your bootloader is now unlocked!
Part 2 - rooting the phone:
BEFORE YOU PROCEED: If you want your phone to be encrypted AND rooted, it's important that you unlock the bootloader using the steps above first, then use the encryption APK to encrypt your phone BEFORE installing TWRP and rooting your device. This device is an exception to the general rule of flashing TWRP first and then rooting afterwards. Repeat, if you want your phone encrypted and rooted, unlock the bootloader FIRST, then encrypt SECOND, then flash TWRP THIRD, and root your phone LAST.
This is the guide for rooting the actual phone. You must unlock the bootloader using the steps above before doing this part.
First, you'll need these things on your computer.
The TWRP image for the R1 HD. You can download [REDACTED]).
A copy of the latest SuperSU zip from Chainfire. You can get it from the official forum post, or Chainfire's website.
Linux Users: On Linux, you must add `sudo` to the beginning of all fastboot commands, because most Linux distributions will not give you enough access to the hardware without being root.
And finally, the guide:
Hold Volume Up and Power until the phone turns on with the boot menu. Once the boot menu appears, use the volume keys to scroll to [Fastboot Mode] and press the power button to select it. It's the middle option.
On your computer, cd to the folder where you downloaded twrp-3.0.2-1-r1hd-lopestom.img and do `fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-1-r1hd-lopestom.img`.
On your computer, do `fastboot boot twrp-3.0.2-1-r1hd-lopestom.img`.
Once TWRP boots up, dismiss the prompt about mounting the system, go to Reboot, then choose Recovery. Your device will reboot back into TWRP. I know this step seems odd, but just trust me.
Make a backup if you want. It's not a bad idea, but seeing how you just unlocked your bootloader so your data is gone and we have the images in case you somehow brick the system, I doubt you actually need it.
In TWRP, go to Advanced, then ADB Sideload. Slide the confirmation slider all the way to the right to confirm.
On your computer, cd to the folder where you downloaded SuperSU and run `adb sideload [SuperSU-zip-name.zip]`, replacing the last argument with the name of the SuperSU zip you downloaded, of course. If your computer says "waiting for device" for a long time, cancel with Ctrl+C, run `adb kill-server`, then run the first command again but with `sudo` in front this time.
Reboot the phone. If everything worked correctly, you should now have a rooted phone with SuperSU, bootloader unlocked, and custom recovery! Yay for cheap phones!
As always, if you have any questions, just ask in a thread reply or send me a private message on XDA. And by the way, hit the Thanks button in the lower right corner of the post if my guide helps you. It motivates me to keep this up to date and write more helpful guides. Can you verify the image you uploaded for the non-Prime version? I'm getting unexpected EOF errors when extracting in Windows using 7Zip and TarTool, and I'm also getting an "operation not permitted" error when extracting using the built in Archive Utility in OS X.

Yeah, that's because the image isn't fully uploaded. My internet is very slow, so it's taking a while to upload. Sorry about that. I was hoping it would be finished by the time I finished writing this, but alas, nope. I will have all files uploaded by tomorrow, along with .md5 files so you can verify the checksums, so come back then. Again, sorry. I guess I should have posted this _after_ I got those uploaded. Oh! And I have North America mirrors coming within the next couple months. It seems a little oxy-moronic to host files for a US only device on an EU server, but unfortunately, servers in the US are significantly more expensive.

Just finished uploading the non-Prime version. I will start the other upload before sleeping and update the post removing the warning when I awaken, assuming everything has gone well. You're free to attempt a non-Prime conversion now. Just don't do it the other way around yet.
Sent from my LG G4 using XDA Labs
Can't wait to give this a shot. Well, at least after someone else reports success first...
followed post 1 convert to non prime steps on windows, did not do the bootloader unlock steps.
phone booted up ok, followed by android is upgrading x of 37.
phone working and no ad's on lock screen
the amazon apps are still there but appear to be disabled, causing errors at first boot.
disabled or uninstall the apps. - used cleanmaster
everything seems ok now
Hello, I have now finished uploading the files, so you can now safely flash away! Enjoy! @abs0lute

Yeah, that's a problem with my server configuration. I'll fix it later. For now, you can save the file by opening it in a browser window and pressing Ctrl+S
I have completed the process successfully-TWRP, root, no ads but do still have all the Amazon apps so something is screwy but not the end of the world.

Nope, it's not screwy. The non-Amazon version does include a lot of the Amazon apps. You can uninstall some of them the normal way (they're pre-installed user apps), and others you can either disable or uninstall using your favourite system app remover.
Anyone else missing Encrypt section in Settings > Security after converting to non-prime?
When I try to load the scatter, SPFT says "Error: Initializing scatter file failed. Please check the name of scatter file which you load is legal." I downloaded it from both the primary link and your mirror, same error. Any ideas? Thanks.
EDIT: Looks like I downloaded the oldest version, not the newest version of SPFT. Whoops! I'll leave my mistake on here to help others who may assume the first link is the right one.

It is missing. How peculiar. I will attempt to implement a workaround in a little bit. Sorry about that.
Update: The Encryption activity exists on the phone, we just can't get to it from the settings menu. You can launch it by manually launching com.android.settings.Settings$CryptKeeperSettingsActivity using your preferred method for launching arbitrary activities. I will release an app that will launch this activity for you ASAP!

A2017G - Updates don't appear to be working. Still stuck on 6.0.1.

Hi there! I want to upgrade from android 6.0.1 to a newer, preferably the latest, version of android. I believe that is "A2017G-N-B09" as of the time of this post.
I downloaded A2017G-N-B09 (??) from the ZTE site, as linked in raystef66's thread. After putting it in the root of the SD card and running the update process, the phone rebooted as expected and said that the update was finished, but the android version is still showing as "6.0.1" (MiFavor is 4.0). The update shows in the update history but, as far as I know, nothing has changed at all.
After that, I looked around on the forums some more and saw someone mentioning that you might need to have Marshmallow B10+ before jumping into Nougat. So I downloaded MM-B11 from raystef66's thread, but the exact same thing happened.
Am I missing a step? Or am I using the wrong files to update? This guide mentions downloading the firmware (a separate file, apparently) before downloading and installing the update package. Is that what's missing for me?
I spent the last two days, since my new A2017G arrived, searching this forum (and google) for help with my issue, but haven't found any relevant solutions.
Many thanks in advance of any advice and help you might be able to offer me!
edit - I'm in the UK, if that makes any difference.

Can you try to install it again and read what the installation text on the recovery mode says? There's probably an error there.
Otherwise get an SD card, put the zip there, and go to the recovery (turn the phone off, and turn it on while holding volume up and power), then select to update from SD card and select the zip. If it fails or something, you'll have the text there, and you'll be able to write it down or whatever.
Also, what does the phone say on the back? Tell me what's the model as seen on the back. It might be an A2017 instead of an A2017G.

Thanks for the quick reply. The model says A2017G on the back.
I just tried to install through the recovery mode, as suggested. It says, "Sorry, you can't sdcard upgrade".
Is this something I can work around?

For the record, the zip file from ZTE support has an update.zip in it. So once you've downloaded it, extract it and put the update.zip onto your intSD/extSD.
I didn't uploaded the "ready" A2017 N-B09 yet on DownloadCenter.
As for the MM-B11 from Downloadcenter : this is a zip you can use directly. Rename it to update.zip, put on SD and update within settings.
Hope that helps you out.

Yep, that's what I did. Any idea why that didn't work then? I mean, it detected the "update.zip" when I had it on the SD card, and the 'update' appears in the history, but it clearly didn't install.

Strange.
Try to ADB sideload.
Also try to wipe cache in recovery. You'll never know.
Also try to rename to update.up and try again.
But then again, as you said the update was applying but nothing installed is at least weird. And also, when you tried to update through recovery and apply from SD, you couldn't is at least strange.
So try again with above steps.
BTW, where did you buy the phone ?

I got the phone from Gearbest.
I'm trying to figure out how to do all this. I'm brand new to ADB, so I don't really know what I'm doing. I downloaded the android SDK, and the universal ADB drivers. The device is showing up when I type "adb devices" and is responding to the "adb reboot bootloader" command, so it seems like it's set up ok.
So, the next step is to get TWRP on to the phone, right? I'm trying to follow the steps here, under the Fastboot Install Method (No Root Required) section, but it seems to be stalling at the "fastboot oem unlock" command. Just gets stuck at "waiting for device".
Sorry if this is all baby-steps. As I said, I'm really new to this and feel like I'm in a bit over my head. I'm happy to keep learning, though, as long as I'm not in real danger of destroying the phone.
edit - I renamed the zip to "update.up" and couldn't get that to work either. It's not detected in the update section of settings, and I still get the same "Sorry, you can't sdcard upgrade" message.
edit #2 - I tried naming it to "update.up.zip" and it detected it this time, trying to run the update now.

No you dont require TWRP for that.
Put the update.zip in adb folder.
Just type adb reboot recovery ( in ADB) . It boots into your stock recovery. There you can apply adb sideload (dont know the actual text : "apply update from adb").
Check that on your phone. Then phone is waiting to your command.
Then type : adb sideload update.zip (or ota.zip)

Which is what made me think perhaps I needed TWRP on the phone. But, if that's all it should be, then I'm doing something else wrong...
Perhaps a driver is missing/not installed correctly? If that was the case though, how could I check? All the basic adb commands seem to be working fine and the phone is clearly responding to them.

You're doing ok.
When you can see adb devices with your phone's number you're ok.
So, adb devices / adb reboot recovery / adb sideload update.zip
Did you try to rename it to ota.zip ?
Btw, what version of MM are you running ?
Btw2, did you wipe cache/dalvik in recovery too ?
Perhaps you could root/bootloader unlock your phone (but you loose ota readiness ). And apply those system updates or install custom roms.
But again that's up to you.
There are threads about root/unlock your phone when on MM. Just look for it. If help needed just let us know.

Same problem when calling it ota.zip, " cannot read 'ota.zip' ". I'm trying to put A2017G-MM-B11 on there (although ultimately I want to get to A2017G-N-B09 if possible). My phone is on 6.0.1 currently.
Yea, I wiped the cache in recovery. Didn't seem to make any difference.
I'm not against rooting the phone or anything, but it just doesn't really seem necessary for my requirements, afaik.

AFAIK, you're on B11 right? Also security patches are from that date imo. So perhaps download the first nougat B01 and see what happens and report back.
But it remains strange that the nougat b09 is in your update history, right?
If this nougat B01 as a test does not work, you may consider to wipe your phone. First backup though.
Is it possible it was flashed in incorrect order of update and messed up partitionioning a little bit, leaving some data screwed up?

Are you sure you are putting the file where you are in cmd? If you write 'adb sideload o' and hit tab, does the name appear? If not, put the zip on C:/, then write 'cd..' with 2 dots on CMD until you get to C:/, and try again
Usually the problem is that adb will get out of memory or crash because of some random thing. But try that nonetheless
lol.... just check 1 more thing... the zip file you have downloaded should be extracted first... and its normally contains 2 files... one zip and pdf file... and if the that zip files is not name as update.zip then just rename it and copy to your root internal memory... then check updates and install the update... it should be running then.
Sometimes i have this silly mistake as well until i open the zip files and saw another zip file in the downloaded rom and realized it.

Yes, that's what I was concerned about. The very first update i tried to install was N-B09, and everything else has been an older update after that, so maybe it won't overwrite the newer files, or something? Or possibly something else went wrong in the first update, so everything else just wouldn't work because of that?
I'm putting N-B01 onto my SD card right now, so I'll test that, and if it doesn't work I'll wipe the phone and start again. If I do need to wipe the phone, however, which update would you recommend trying first? N-B09? That might confirm if it was just bad luck on the first try, or whatever.

Agreed, that sounds like a possibility to me. I'll probably end up wiping and starting over.

Yes the tab autocomplete works on the "u" of update.zip and "o" of ota.zip, when I tried both. I have to admit, I was quite excited to see your suggestion there, as I thought that would be a really easy way to confirm if something isn't right with adb, but never mind.
I still don't understand why it gives me this error then, though: * cannot read 'update.zip' *.

Thanks for the suggestion, and yes, I did confirm that I renamed the right zip file. That would have been easy thing to fix though, sadly.
edit - I tried the same adb commands with windows powershell too, and got exactly the same error messages.
What ROM was on it before you flashed B09?
Updating to N-B01 worked! I've no idea why this happened the way it did, nor why adb didn't work for sideloading, but I'm really glad that it finally worked.
The order of events:
1) Installed N-B09 via transfer to SD using the android updater, no difference in android version, but appeared in update history.
2) Installed MM-B11, same as above.
3) Tried various methods of installing MM-B11, including:
- SD transfer
- recovery mode SD update (which the phone wouldn't let me do, saying, "Sorry, you can't sdcard upgrade").
- ADB sideload (which never worked even slightly. I always got the message, * cannot read 'update.zip'/'ota.zip'/'update.up.zip' *)
- Tried the above methods with variously named zip files, including "update, ota, and update.up".
- Tried the above methods, but wiping the cache in between processes.4) Installed N-B01 via transfer to SD using the android updater. This time the process took a lot longer and after rebooting the phone, went through the process of optimizing apps, which it had never done before.
Ok, I think that's everything.
The only theory I can come up with is that: Something (I have no idea what, though) went wrong with the first update attempt and every subsequent attempt to update to an older version didn't work because it didn't want to overwrite newer android version files? That doesn't seem quite right to me, though, as I would assume that whatever is in the update.zip would just overwrite everything as standard, because the assumption would always be that these files are newer than the existing ones.
What would you recommend that I do next? Should I try to push through the latest N update now, then? Has this outcome helped you figure out what the problem was/is?
Whatever the case, I'm happy to finally get an update working. Thanks very much for all your help and suggestions, guys. It was much appreciated!

Need support on 7.1.2 for Y5 2017 mya-l22

I have successfully booted the rr 7.1.2 rom from 4pda on my device every thing seems very well except in performance its much slower than the stuck firmware , also i have check the antutu score and it get lower by 10k points , i have check the gpu with another app and the working percent was stuck at 0%
So if any one could help fixing the hwc , kernel , hw coding and decoding,, it will make the device fly again

I have been trying to get this room to work but failed everytime, because of the encryption.
Everytime I get decryption successful but something went wrong. As far as I understand the encryption should be disabled on this ROM completely, but I can't get it done. I tried reformatting data to ext4 but that didn't work.
Edit: The problem was that I was using Magisk as root solution. I tried with the provided SuperSU and it all worked.
My device runs well with rr. I only notice the performance issue on startup, right after but the phone is very slow.
I noticed that there is no swap memory use in this ROM, while in stock there was a deal memory partition.
I'll try to figure out if we can enable it in this ROM. That might improve performance.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but im desperate. Im trying to root mt MYA L22 but can't seem to find the right instructions. Posted here two times but no one is replying. Could you tell me how you unlocked bootloader on your phone? I already have the code from Huawei website. I am stuck at the cmd prompt when i type "list adb devices" from a cmd prompt opened through the adb and fastboot folder that ive downloaded. It says adb devices attached but shows nothing after that, basically an empty list. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I went through that thread. I understand you rooted it but then started having problems? Like you couldn't download? Where you able to solve those problems? Now I am worried to root it.

I'm not sure which post you saw, but I think my post on there were with an other device and yes, I have never bricked a device unrecoverable (yet).
That said, you will always be taking a risk when rooting or trying custom ROMS.
Then again if you never take risks you won't get anywhere. The question is how much are you willing to risk. In this case are you willing to risk your phone for the extra possibilities you might get when rooting it
First think you need to do before modifying anything is learning how to backup and restore.

Thanks JudgeDread. Yes, I've rooted several phones in my life time. I understand the risk, but I tend to research about that particular rooting method with my phone before going ahead and doing it. I feel like the rooting method for my phone is particularly more risky, not because of what I read but rather from what info I am NOT able to find. Did you have a Huwaei Y5 2017 MYA l22 that you rooted successfully without issues? Can you point me to the instructions? That thread is a bit confusing.

Yes exact same model, rooted and after several tries custom ROM.
I unlocked using the official method and then flashed TWRP in the recovery partition.
The difficulty was to get back into TWRP after rebooting. So I would advice to immediately install a root solution. I used Magisk. While root works without problem Magisk modules will only work if you use the f2fs workaround.
I am now running Resurrection remix (Android 7.1.2) without many issues. Only every now and then a forced close of the system UI.
It took some time to get it running. Because I used a different root solution the provided on the same page as the ROM. So on install use the provided SuperSU. After install you can change of you want.
Also the patches are needed. I still have bad videos on YouTube but haven't looked into the issue much yet.
hi , good news for Huawei y5 2017(MYA-L22) users.

Thanks again for replying. Unfortunately though, 80 percent of what you just said flew over my head
I am not an expert but I can follow instructions! Any step by step guide on how to root it? So far I've gotten the unlock code from Huawei. I downloaded the ADB and fast boot folder and launched from that folder the cmd prompt. I type in "list of ADB deviced" and below comes an empty list. Please share what you did.

For rooting you need unlocked bootloader ( if you don't do ir then below won't work).
1)download the 4pda app from google play store and register an account .
2) download the TWRP.img file from 4pda website here is the link
https://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=823938&view=findpost&p=74424572
3) enable developer mode in your phone by going to setting about phone , tap 6 times on the build number.
4)go to developer mode and enable usb debugging and oem factory unlock .
5) go to your pc install adb here link https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
6) now conect the phone to the pc and run cmd , type adb reboot bootloader . (Your device ahould restart and enter bootloader mode (white screen)).
7) now take the TWRP.img (must be copyied to desktop ) and type in cmd cd desktop.
8) type fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img (change the file name to TWRP ).
9) type fastboot reboot.
Now you have successfully install TWRP on your device.
