Haven't had much time to check yet but 10x zoom works in Photo mode not HDR (still 6x is max)
I quote an earlier post by @duraaraa
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70176936&postcount=280
"This update adds bank card and transportation card in Huawei Wallet and a 10x zoom in camera, optimizes the drawer homescreen display.
Added a 10x zoom, which enables you to take clearer photos from a distance.
HiWallet support Huawei Pay bank card and transportation card
Optimized the drawer homescreen display for a better experience.
Decreased the CPU load for several core processes to achieve better system performance.
Improved device security with Google security patches."

Should see better battery then also

Yes, I too got the OTA on my 2 days old AL00C00 mate 9 this morning as well. Only have about 240 something MB to download and upgrade. Didn't have the phone long enough to tell what the difference is.

Nothing here. I am desperate. Specially with some annoying problems.

Antutu, Geekbench, gfxbench ( no need to run all of them, just some of the off screen ), 3dmark... Huawei has been improving the GPU drivers in the last patches.
Thanks [emoji14]

Is there some way to force the update? It's not showing up when I do update check

How's this?

The update is now available on FunkyHuawei. See the FunkyHuawei thread, and you can update using eRecovery.
I'm running on B153 right now, but apart from the zoom, I don't notice any substantial upgrades from B137. Battery life still significantly worse than Mate 8

Battery life worse? I have 10 SOT whatever I do on Mate 9, navigate with maps and gps, Netflix, play YouTube, browse Internet, install updates... Which translates into 2 full days of battery life 5 SOT both. And that's pretty crazy if you spend 5 hours on your phone a day. I was only able to achieve same kind of battery life and SOT with my Xiaomi Mi Max with 4850MaH battery.

It's easy to get 10 SOT if you're using it for 10 hours in one day, but I notice a lot of battery drain when I'm not using it. For example, it will drain more than 1-2% an hour just receiving notifications and not being turned on very much.
It's absolutely a beast when it comes to marathon screen on time, but I'm more disappointed with the results as a light user. I probably have 30 minutes to one hour of screen on time per day, but the battery drain is generally over 20 percent despite that.

True, in Stock ROM of Mate 9 is not so well configured for light users, compared to OOB MIUI 8 on Mi Max, even in Battery Saver mode on. One have to tune it a bit. For example I do not need to sync my email and account all the time, so I have my sync period set to 1 hour, disabled autosync most time, I like to sync when I want to, few times a day when I actually have mail app open and have some spare time to read emails or browse social networks. Set most apps to autoclose on screen lock, disabled keyboard vibration and many other little things... I enable wifi/bt/nfc only when I need it. My Mate consumes 1-2% battery per 8 hours in standby or me sleeping, if I'm not using it. It's all about optimization of settings in order how you use your phone. Detailed battery information is always ones best friend in finding precious MaH top consumers, idle or not.

My mate 9 has amazing standby battery life but screen on time.. For example 2.30 hours and I lost 44 percent.. I lose my battery very fast when the screen is on... I've been testing my battery and I think it may be defected, many apps tell me I'm using a 3900 mAh and actual Is 3730

Debloated S8 battery life

How much battery you get when you debloat S8?
Manage open apps
Start up apps
Black Theme
Blackish Wallpaper
etc etc
basic advance user battery settings
I want to buy S8 but 2 things hold me back.
Drop it (with a good case) and brake the screen.
Battery life after debloating with all the advance user battery tweaks.
I usually charge my phone when it gets to about 40% but the few times I did get down to 15% I was around 6.5 hours to 7 hours SOT; that's with Bluetooth, GPS, quad HD, AOD on at all times. Sync, wifi is off.
This phone is fragile. I have a very protective case on it but no case will protect the phone if you're not cognizant with your phone. Don't drop it.

No it's not. My S8 keeps up with my 3t. My note 4 had terrible battery life with 3 hours SoT. If you need more, you need another category of phones. All flagships get you between 5 and 8 hours of screen time. How long this is in total useage depends on you. I get two solid days out of my s8.
Much better after debloats.
In Idle (aod off): 3hrs/1%
Idle Aod on: 45min/1%
Facebook/web browseing: about 7min/1%
Screen on but not heavy load: 13min/1%
Easy to pass 8hrs or 9hrs (may be 10) Sot on daily use, this phone battery is really incredible
Ps: I used dual sim so phone radio drain battery little more than normal

Im sorry but 9-10 hours SOT is impossible unless you have samsung s8+ version. With regular this is impossible. 10% per hour with wifi on is almost impossible. How the hell did u managed that - i could get 7 hours maybe 8 tops with movie playback mostly with no internet connection and minimum brightness. and i dont have drains i already disabled thoes bloats

The true is I am on S8 version. I had the screen shot of 8hrs and 30min SOT and still 20% left. But because tried so much rom, my phone get soft brick, so I had to go back to stock and lost all the data. So you can easily imaging by take a look at the screen shot below

Still i just tested video movie. Wifi, bluettooth off - only cell reception 2 bars .
Brightness set on 20-25% , powersaving middle ON- it took 7-8 minutes for 1 % of battery. This means ONLY under sthoes conditions, screen on time would give 10-11 hours - meaning turn wifi on, brightness on little higher level u get 8 hours then. BUT if you start surfing the web and mixed use, u get 5-6 hours tops!!!!
If you looked under batterylife of thoes screenshots who had 8 hours or so - they didnt use phone much in browsing or video playback - they prolly just had screen on too test and brag about batterylife.!!! Unless they are lying about having regular s8 instead of s8+ wich does have little longer battery life then s8 , despite bigger screen
I debloated most stuff with Package DIsabler.
I get 5 hours SOT... Just as I did prior to debloating.
All things on, nothing important turned off (such as location)

All things I did is browsing mate, facebook. Plus 15mins of videos calling by Line everyday(and Line eat battery so badly ^^). So it is true, daily uses, wifi is always on, brightness is auto. I love AOD feature, this is why I tried so many Roms/kernel to make it longer

Thank you for posting XML- ill try it out in bk disable pro. How is your phone working with all of this disabled? any hickups? Did you checked all thoes disabled apps that are ok to disable, so it wont hurt system too maintain device?
Also after u disabled this, how much system ram u have available in background AFTER u close all aplications in multitab.
U said 5 hours SOT - i do get more then that when not using wifi much and more of video playback - i did notest also that if you disable a lotmof bloatware, dosent improved battery life much.
But Dkido guy above, i guess you did managed too get this cause of you using DIFFERENT ROM. maybe this is the case here?!

Yah, it will a little more time to consider all. Maybe in next morning I will write more. But as fast review I findout a little bit. For example you want to disable Samsung location, you should disable 4 package:
+ app/slocation
+ priv-app/radiolocationservice
+ priv-app/radiolocationmanager
+ priv-app/samsunglocationsdk (sorry if i dont remember exactly the name)

Newly bought S8 and a 4.5h battery life. Is is normal?

So I got my GS8 yesterday and this is the battery life I get with:
AOD off
No battery saving profile
Wifi on all the time
4G network but no data
Automatic brightness
No gaming, about an hour of video playback
Since I can't share outside links I'll just write the info here: (From 100% to 3%)
Last charged: 10h ago
Screen on time: 4 hours and 30 minutes (812mAh)
Android System: CPU total: 3 hours and 11 minutes (312mAh)
This is not even close to what I expected, do you think this is normal?
Normal. It's happened with both my S8 and my G6. Your battery life will get better in 3-5 days. Android is setting stuff up and optimizing battery life behind the scenes.
You bought it yesterday. Give it time to settle.
Also, turn off automatic Samsung cloud backup, it's on by default.

What did you expect from a 3000mah battery? It all depends how you use the phone, i can empty the battery in an hour if I want.
4.5h is more than respectable, if you want more lower the brightness and use a black theme.

It pretty much. Also depend on how many apps you installed. If you dont want it run much, add it to smart manager sleep list. My idle about 3hrs/1% man. This is my battery current round and apps list. About 10% wasted battery because I did clear davikcache a few times
This should be normal. with AOD on, my phone takes about 2% per hour, but when browsing webpages, every 1.5 hours costs about 10% of power, watching videos should take more. also, the 1080p and 2k resolution have notable differences. so it seems that the white-background screen cuts down most of battery life, i think.

hmm, i turned my phone as power-saving as possible - brightness is less than half of the bar, suspended all background apps, and FHD resolution. also, after some days of usage, the system should be able to auto balance the power consumption by sleeping some unused apps and some Samsung's system services maybe. so i don't think this is an issue.

Dont believe every sot someone posts here, i've seen a few 8 or 9 hour sot's but i'll bet the brightness was as dim as can be and they used a black theme. Or they were probably reading a book on the phone which uses no cpu at all or using the battery saving feature.
Your z1 also had a 3000mah battery, yet it had a smaller/dimmer screen, lower resolution, less ram, much slower cpu/gpu. How can you be complaining?

yeah, you're right, the AMOLED screen with high brightness and white color is the real battery killer. also BTW, does the 'sot' mean 'screen-on time'? sorry for my bad English...
Yup screen on time
4.5h is more than enough ! I am coming from a S6E+ it used to give me 2h SOT MAX ! Hated my life with it.
Do you plat Pokemon Go? I find a lot of people I see complaining about battery do, that game is very poorly optimized for battery consumption.

Screen on Time

This device is getting better everyday. Power of 4000mAh and the awesome RAM management coupled with few regular battery saving tweaks has given me 10hrs SOT today.
That is with regular push notifications, Whatsapp, some youtube, instagram, photo edits, browsing, 20mins of VR .
This is so satisfying.

Disable HiBoard, Since EMUI allows you to uninstall bloatware do that. Uninstall all those applications that you don't need/use.
I would suggest not using Facebook and messenger app. /
Go into battery settings and use the "Lock screen cleanup" to prevent apps from running in background after screenlock. This will prevent notifications from showing up so select only those apps that you don't want notifications for.
You can also take that one step further by using apps like Brevent (Android 7.0 added new permission called RUN_IN_BACKGROUND, which can restrict background behavior of apps(blocking broadcast receivers, services, etc.). However this permission is fully hidden and there's no way to activate it besides using adb commands. ) Play around and see. If you have rooted your device, you won't have to use the Adb commands.
Good luck

Quite possible. If we get a custom Kernel with EAS and/or more governors, we can push even further by controlling the cores.
Long way to go.
I just got 6 hrs and 20 min of SOT over a period of 22 hrs of usage from 100 percent to 15 percent. No power saving mode was activated. Also no apps were set for auto clean on screen lockup. Listened to music to through speaker for about 1 hr.
I use fb app, messenger lite, Instagram, Tapatalk and others.
So, this phone is perfectly capable of delivering of 6 hrs of SOT over a day.
If anyone has got light usage, it can easily last atleast upto 30 hrs.

Thats great
Indeed the battery optimise with time and usage. Anything above 6 hrs is acceptable. It has more battery but due to 2k screen it consumes some additional battery.
Here is SS of 6X battery
I easily pass 6-7 hrs on moderate usage. Around 6 on heavy usage. 8 pro is with more battery but larger screen and 2k display Consumes extra there still 6-7 hrs is ok.

Oreo battery life

I can't cope with this bad battery life that came with Oreo. I'm not a heavy user and I do have Bluetooth enabled because of my Gear S3 - but at this rate I need to recharge my phone twice a day...
I've already done a restore, removed all unnecessary apps, replaced mail Push to 15min and other changes for a better battery life. But nothing helps.

auto brightness seems to be stable and a bit better but the battery is horrid i left home at 6:20 am with 100% i'm already on 53% with bluetooth audio and whatsapp really.
I did a factory reset after my upgrade.
Battery endurance is better than N.

Do you also have the same issue?

turn of "mobile data always on" inside Developer Options and see.
Can someone on the internet identify this underlining issue of battery getting exhausted so rapidly. On Nougat it was just fine but after updating to Oreo, battery backup is gotten worse. Whenever I see battery stats Android OS and Android System using absurd amount of battery just below the screen usage time and sometimes either of them is on top in usage.
I have done numerous resets with and without data restore. But nothing changes.
I think have found the problem. Samsung Email, after Oreo this app keep on in background every time (do not look in battery monitor but in applications) . I already try one day without any mail app and the gain is enormous and other one day with other mail app (Gmail) and the gain is also enormous. For last day (tomorow) I try again with Samsung email for confirm the result .
Same problem here but with my S8+. Went from 7h SOT to 4h SOT. I also deleted samsung mail app and replaced it with gmail but even that didn't really fix it.. Other than that Oreo is really good in terms of performance, but I want my old battery life back. Hopefully Samsung will fix this with the next update.
I am really surprised some people have better battery life with Oreo. Maybe it has to do with Snapdragon vs Exynos ? I have an S8+ with Exynos CPU
I had great battery life with Oreo beta 6 but then I "upgraded" to the final version CRAP and my battery life is now a crap!
Currently on my S8Plus(Exynos) I am unable to get a full day of battery backup with moderate usage. SOT usually lies between 2-2.5hrs max in 12hours on battery.
Also I don't have Samsung Mail App. All things stock with limited no. of 3rd party apps likes social media apps, 2-3 shopping apps and also 3 gmail accounts synced.

What's your SOT and how many apps are installed also do you use location services. If possible share your battery stats here.

Hi I went by your suggestion and checked in apps to see which one were consuming the highest battery & my culprits are Bixby Global Action & Bixby Service each consuming 11% each (Please see attached files). I am also attaching usage statistics of today. Both before disabling services and after disabling. (See the time to figure out). Will get a better idea tomorrow.
Suggest everyone to look in to their apps usage and post their findings.
EDIT: I just checked I had used the STOPPED the applications but forgot to disable them. Have disabled them now at 17.45 PM and will update later.

Be careful the percentage of consumption of this app is a is a consumption of many app from "android system "
But it's not worth to disable lot of Bixby
Derp
Battery on Oreo is way better than Nougat. Never had over 4 hours SOT... And I have tons of apps installed. 143 apps to be exact

I'd call it bad. My Pixel 2 XL with a processor that is 2 generations old, a battery that is 15% smaller and 16 months old (batteries degrade over time) and a higher resolution (assuming Samsung phones still default to 1080p) still gets better battery life than the Galaxy S10+.

Exynos or Snapdragon? I believe a majority of the Exynos users have reported horrible battery drain on idle (I know of just one exception). On Snapdragon the information is less clear at this stage.
i thought it was just me. using exynos and i do believe battery drain is crazy

Same here. The exynos is a real ****. Less than 5 hours of battery
With the Mate 20 pro i had 6 hours
Pie takes about a week to get used to your usage, you shouldn't really focus on the battery so much until then.
Also stop using crappy apps, even Facebook can have completely different drains on different phones of the same model, having such crappy apps gives you no right to complain about battery, you're trying to have a healthy life with a parasite inside you.
Some Reddit idiots are using this post to criticize Exynos since they couldn't believe how good battery life is according to official tests, don't give them coal.

The Facebook app is pretty good on battery life. It's MUCH better than the alternative of viewing Facebook in a web browser. Chrome uses more battery than the Facebook app and Samsung's browser sucks for battery life. And if someone wants to use Facebook or other apps you can crappy why even have such a high end phone?
I'm curious what "official" tests you are referring to? Claims from Samsung? Those never represent real world usage.

Seriously? Do you have any idea of how web view apps work?
Facebook is literally a web element viewer, a custom browser with a TON of bloatware around, autoplay, continuous telemetries, and its own message push system. If you think it's good for battery life then your overall battery life probably sucks and you don't even know it.
The alternative is not Chrome but one of the many apps that put together web's mobile facebook and activate messenger options.
So now, since you have a high end phone, you can't use facebook or other apps? Where's your logic?
With official tests I was referring to GSMarena, Mrwhostheboss and many others, that's as official as it gets, since statistics from corporations aren't to be trusted.

The Android Facebook app isn't just a wrapper around a web app. It was in the past but hasn't been for a long time. It's a native Android app. The battery life of the Facebook app is far better than you get in a browser. With the Facebook app I get about 8 minutes per 1% of battery. Chrome, on average, gets about 6 minutes per 1% of battery. That's 33% longer when using the Facebook app.
I'm curious about the other apps you are talking about. I've used one or two Facebook app alternatives in the past and not were as good as the official app.
The battery life tests from GSMArena are basically useless. They don't at all reflect real world usage and even under their very unrealistic test conditions still weren't even close to being accurate.
Look at what the average person is getting. It's not great considering the hardware and what other phones get with lower specs.

You failed to consider how much the Facebook app drains battery when it's not being used. I can tell you this. With Facebook app installed drain is approx 1.6% hour or more in standby mode with the app deleted it goes down to 0.6 to 1% per hour screen off standby drain. In essence the Facebook app is a battery hog.

It's not a web wrapper in that way, but it just borrows XML elements from the same source, it performs better than HTML in that way, but they use the extra performance gain to shove more stuff in the same screen.
8 minutes per % means you can total more than 13h of SoT, so you either have a midrange device with an oversized battery, or your battery calibration isn't on point between start and end of power.
Different people could be more or less active on Facebook, that can influence the kind of content the app processes and its pace, but the biggest problem with their app as Limeybastard mentioned, is the background drain, which is null with an alternative wrapper or web.

No, the system still receives them, it just refuses to show them to the user.
If you suspect an app sucking too much power just get rid of it and leave feedback, if you really need to use it then there are utilities like Brevent that can suspend/kill apps at will, they just need adb permissions once.

If you're getting only 1 hour of SOT you should return the device. That's nowhere near normal battery characteristics for any smartphone.
From my understanding the first few charge cycles will be disappointing until the phone learns your usage patterns. My battery on the pixel 3 xl was horrid when I first got it, barely 2h of screen time but after a week or so I was seeing spikes of 5-6h sot. It's a brand new phone, have to break it in.
