Hello, I'm new to this stuff, but does anybody know what version of the V20 (TMo, Sprint, 996, etc) bands match Project-Fi's bands the closest? I have a T-Mo V2 currently on Fi but it sometimes doesn't ring when I receive phone calls. I'm guessing it is because it is missing a band or something (or maybe it's just a defective phone) and that's why the call doesn't go through.

My understanding for it to work properly you need the pixel or the nexus 6 or might also include the nexus 5. Any other phone you will run in to issues as they say only the T-Mobile band will work. Might be why you are having issues with your lg phone.

Thanks for the quick response. I know it isn't "officially" supported by Fi. I'm just trying to get as many bands as possible to work with. I understand I won't have quite as good of a signal as I would if I had a Pixel but I can't stand the huge bezels and smaller screen. I'm wondering if I might have better luck with the 996 instead of the TMo version.
Well I'm pretty sure Fi uses Sprint and T-Mobile at the same time. Since Sprint is a CDMA network, a T-Mobile phone isn't going to be able to use it, except for VoLTE, and even then probably not.
I don't know too much info about WCDMA (TMO) and CDMA (Sprint) band usage by the two carriers, so I can't give too much info there.
T-Mobile uses LTE bands 1(?), 2/4, 4/66, 12 (there's weird frequency stuff where B4 matches B2 on one of its frequencies. 4 and 66 use the same frequency range). Sprint uses 25, 26, 41 (don't ask, I have no idea, since VZ and ATT use 2,4,13 and 2,4,17 respectively, and 17 is a subset of 12).
The T-Mobile V20 supports 1,2,3,4,5,7,12,13,17,20 (some of these aren't mentioned by the FCC because they weren't tested, and LG's site doesn't mention them. Roaming on Verizon will be alright in most places, but the lack of VZ's low frequency band (13), it might have trouble in rural areas. Luckily, you probably won't have to worry about Verizon compatibility (and it probably supports it without mentioning it anyway).
Has anyone got T-Mobile to run on the Verizon v20...I can get text and call to work together all day ,or 4g works all day with out the others.If I get all 3 working at once it keeps cutting off network then comes back on..I've did the APN,and network.Just wondering if it has been done...

Well unlocking doesn't actually unlock any bands. It just allows use on other carriers. These bands are always available for use. I don't know Sprint's unlocking policy, since I'm on T-Mobile, but check it out. It might be pre-unlocked like Verizon phones.

The VS995 supports all the GSM (2G) frequencies that T-Mobile uses, although it doesn't support as many as the T-Mobile variant, so Canadian coverage might be weird with traditional calls and texts.
It's also missing B4 UMTS, which is a pretty important one. If you're in an area without 2G but with HSPA+, you could have issues. It also doesn't support LTE B12, T-Mobile's low frequency band. This is important to have in cities.

Have you tried a factory reset? Maybe a replacement phone? It might be worth it just to get the V20 from T-Mobile. I know it's more expensive, but it'll probably work.

I might just send back and get another...Bad thing is it came with a scratch so I was sending back anyway...A scratch over a inch long with a gap in the middle and it looks deep to were it messes with the colors on the screen...My nephew has a lg that has same issue..This is one nice phone though

It is a great phone. I just wish it was more consistent.
My first V20 had severe noise reduction on everything, and weird bumps on the transition from the screen glass to the plastic bezels. One side would be more pronounced than the other. My replacement is better in noise reduction, but it still has those uneven transitions.
My mom's V20 has almost no weird transition, but it does have some noise reduction issues. This phone is weird to say the least
So I just got a Sprint ls997 and when I take the Project-Fi sim card out of my working T-Mo v20 and put it in the Sprint V20 it just shows the invalid sim card icon in the upper right corner (nothing in notifications though). Does that mean I need to unlock the Sprint version of the phone? If so, why didn't I have to unlock the T-Mo version? I looked quickly and couldn't find any websites that would unlock the Sprint V20.

The Sprint phone should be unlocked I think, but if it isn't, they will unlock it for you if you call. Any device made after February 2015 is like that for Sprint.
You're rebooting when you put the SIM In right?
Thanks, I called Sprint and they said it was still tied to the previous owners account. The previous owner said they paid it off and removed it from their account on 12/22 so they called and requested to have it unlocked. Sprint said it would take 3-5 business days after they did paid it off and it would automatically be unlocked. I'm not sure I believe that but we'll see in a couple days.
Yes, the battery was out when I installed the sim card so it was rebooted.

Just a quick update, according to Sprint, the phone now should be unlocked. Is there a way on the phone I can tell if it is unlocked? When I put a sim card in from another carrier I'm getting the icon at the top of the screen of a sim card with an ! in it. When I try to make a phone call it does not go through. It also doesn't show my phone number or any other info related to the sim card on the phone's info screen.
Any advice?

You should try rebooting if you haven't.

Hmm. Maybe call Sprint again. It sounds like the unlock may not have been processed.

Hey all,
I recently got my Note 4 through US Cellular SIM unlocked and when I insert another SIM from AT&T or Tmobile, the phone accepts the SIM but there isn't any setting to change the phone to global mode in the network settings area, nor is there a way to change APNs. I cannot place calls on either Tmobile or AT&T with it, which I find odd since the phone doesn't reject the SIM. Does this version not have support for GSM bands or is it something to do with US Cellular's software that prevents it from connecting to United States GSM carriers? Is there a hidden setting that I need to get into to enable GSM use? Thanks all!

I recently spent some time on the phone with the executive assistant to the president uscellular and well I had no success in getting my phone unlocked if I understand correctly the phone is cable of gsm also. If anyone would like I can give you the number 4 this lady name Karen and you can bring her directly. I also spoke with several members of the presidents executive Support technical service and they all indicated that the machine would have to be taking it into the store to be unlocked. the weird thing was that the machine is not blacklisted, stolen nor gained in any ill gotten way but yet all with one accord further said that it would be refuse for unlocking without giving any good reason. I understand the company was sued in court and lost the battle to not unlock their phones and this seems to not affect them only one to one basis. I will find a solution to this and I will share it. I would be grateful for any help in doing meanwhile.

Supposedly... newer Qualcomm-powered Android phones are inherently capable of connecting to any CDMA or GSM network. However, the different bands are enabled/disabled per the carrier's specifications. For instance, I'm a Verizon customer, and I connect to bands 4 and 13 for LTE service. However, US Cellular devices do not have band 13 enabled by default.
All hope is not yet lost, though. There is a thread (which has since been closed due to trolling/bickering) that details a method to flash the Qualcomm chip to enable/disable bands as needed. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059 According to the information there... it seems that I'd be able to flash the CPU chip to enable band 13, and then I'd have support for all 1x / 2G / 3G / LTE bands that I'd need for Verizon. Likewise for T-Mo, Sprint, ATT, etc.
Now for my problem...
I have recently purchased a USC Note 4 (N910R4) from Amazon, though it was listed as a N910F, International Edition. It was listed as having been unlocked for use on any CDMA network. Unfortunately, the phone does not recognize my Verizon SIM, Verizon couldn't give me any information about the device, and a US Cellular support chat representative said I'd have to visit a store to check if the phone is actually unlocked. The closes USC store is several hours away in another state. The phone came with a USC SIM still in it... and it recognizes that SIM without a problem. I can't make phone calls, though... and no mobile data, either.
I had intended to use the International Version (N910F) and enable the correct bands per the thread above... and then activate the phone on my Verizon account... but the USC version should be close enough in band support that I'd be able to at least activate the phone. The USC phone supports band 4 LTE, and I get band 4 service where I'm sitting right now. If not that, the 2G and 3G band support are identical, I believe. So, I'm just doubtful that I'll be able to activate the phone just yet.
Can anyone shed light on how to verify that my new phone is actually carrier/SIM unlocked? I was hoping I'd be able to get someone to query a database of unlocked MEIDs, but for some reason, I am supposed to go to a store. I can't even call.
Any help is appreciated.

I share all your concerns sir. I too have not learned yet how to determine if USC nope for exactly carrier locked or no but I am of the firmest belief based on what I've learned from USC at various levels up to the Presidents executive team that it is indeed carrier locked. I cannot answer for yours then I believe that all under phones come in one of the two varieties and I am convinced even after the court ruling against them that they I have no intent to unlock a phone by less than forcesure. Furthermore I have no confidence that the store they may send you to has any unlocking abilities. According to the executive team that does this work in reality you must in the machine into them and prove its worthwhile to be unlocked. In my case well they cannot prove there is any malfeasance, they still choose to err on the side of caution and refuse to accept any proof then I have of the machine purchased new complete and clean but from a second party. They furthermore refuse to contact the locals that originally sold the phone and truthfully are the first corporation that ever more me so thin that I chose to unlock the bang bang myself. I remain as giddy as a schoolboy hoping to hear more good news from this post. I'm confident then I currently have the knowledge to fix the phone but do not currently have the time. I will happily update I'll with my success be crying the Blues at my failure soon.

Has anyone got any further with this? I've just bought a US cellular note 4 and my APN settings are greyed out. I'm assuming that US cellular will be difficult to deal with to get the phone unlocked especially if it has been bought from a third party. Has anyone had any luck with getting there's unlocked?

Make things short, NO, you cant use USC Note 4 on any US carrier if u look at the spec. The phone support only some GSM850 and FDD LTE band 5 (850mzh). And att/tmobile 2g voice is on gsm1700/2100 and LTE band is not match....... So that being said you are buying note 4 as Samsung Player and only good with USC and somewhat Verizon(need to hack for it to work, and stillike not all feature will work). Hope answer most you guy question

Can anyone shed light on how to verify that my new phone is actually carrier/SIM unlocked? I was hoping I'd be able to get someone to query a database of unlocked MEIDs, but for some reason, I am supposed to go to a store. I can't even call.

Though the phone is automatically cdma unlocked on android 6.0.1 roms, the bands are still disabled. I suggest following DrPhant0m's advice and look into the posted link above.

I've still got the USC Note 4. My son uses it on wifi and to watch videos that we load to local storage. In other words... no sim card installed.
If I manually update the phone to 6.0.1... what will I gain being that I'm a Verizon customer? Is the only difference that 1 band of LTE will be inaccessible? Would it actually start working for calls and some data with a verizon sim?
The whole "reprogram other-carrier Qualcomm phones to work on Verizon's bands" is frequently debunked as chasing a unicorn in the verizon forums.
Further... is the same applicable to newer phones? Could I get a newer (note 5/7) USC phone with android 6.x+ to work with verizon? (Unlocked bootloader would be my only reason to try)

I am leaving post paid service and going pre paid.
I since majority if prepaid US carriers are Sprint, T-Mobile and some AT&T. I want a GS 7 that will support all three carriers with as much bands possible.
Any suggestions or does the Sprint version support (once unlocked) support AT&T and T-Mobile.
Technically, any GSM unlocked phone would work on any GSM network, but that wasn't your question.
I ordered the sprint version to use with cricket (at&t network). What I read, the sprint version will support AT&T better than tmobile. In the end, once rooted, you could add in the band's not supported by default.

I'd like to know this as well. I seem to get better 4G coverage in my area with the advanced signal enabled compared to my friends who don't support it.

Sweet. I have the nexus 6 now and considering getting one for the SD card access alone. Is there a noticeable difference in data speeds with the LTE advanced, does it offer data and voice at the same time?

It just seems that way, or it's because it has a better antenna in general. LTE Plus doesn't get you a stronger signal. The beamforming that helps at the cell edge is a tower-side enhancement. As long as your phone supports band 41, you're able to take advantage of LTE Plus - just not the Carrier Aggregation component.
I am very eager to see what happens in this regard as well. Sprint is notorious about locking down their phones to include very few LTE modes so that the phone is truly only for Sprint. Samsung's CDMA version of the Galaxy phones have been crippled in this way all the way up to the S6.
You can see various phones like the S4, S6, LG G4 and the S7. The S7 CMDA variant does not appear on this comparison chart yet but I'm hoping that it won't need to.

The last phone in that comparison is the iPhone 6s Plus, which is the same no matter which carrier you use worldwide. I really, really hope Samsung does the same thing.
The only other phones with lots of LTE bands like the iPhone on Sprint is the Nexus 5s/6p and Moto X Pure.
PLEASE let LG and Samsung include all the default LTE modes by default on the CDMA versions of their phones!
Edit: nope, Sprint made Samsung get rid of the most important worldwide LTE band, 7, along with 13 and 20. LAME.

Today's news concludes that all US (Qualcomm) variants of the S7 indeed have a locked bootloader except for a select few apparently. Verizon and AT&T lock the bootloader tighter than others, such as Sprint. Sprint and T-Mobile didn't lock the bootloader themselves but rather Samsung. Samsung locked the bootloader to better add security to their consumers and there's been hints they may release an unlock kit/tool for developers but this hasn't been confirmed.
I got Sprint to unlock my G930P and works perfectly with AT&T. The S7, at a hardware level, is the same phone for all US variants where the only thing that changes is the software. Meaning a Sprint phone on the Verizon network would essentially have the same network performance as if you were to use an actual Verizon variant. Once the device is unlocked, at least for me, it knew my sim was on the AT&T network and switched the bands to AT&T on reboot.
Internationally, I'm not sure. There is an option to enable Global bands in one of the hidden menus in self-service but I'd assume it'll cover enough bands to provide you with what you need minimally. (I've never gone international before so can't say from experience)

GSM will work as expected.
LTE, however, will be crippled depending on the country you go to.

According to that list, Sprint purposely took out three very important LTE bands: 7/13/20. Why does that matter? Because much of the world uses these three bands, especially band 7 and especially Europe! Sprint purposely crippled the LTE radio modes for this phone and I cannot understand why.
So yes, you'll probably get normal GSM and some LTE if they offer one of the other bands but Sprint purposely disabling or deleting the commonly used international LTE modes abroad is just anti-competitive and backwards.

The splash screen says LTE Plus, not LTE Advanced. LTE Plus is simply the new branding for Sprint SPARK. Was that the OPs question?
LTE Plus is not Sprint Spark , its more in depth. Carrier aggregation by antenna beam forming.

First step is to not stick a sprint sim card in the phone. I played around with mine without a sim card and to get the stupid vr game promo i stuck the card in and next thing it did was install all the carrier garbage bloatware automatically and it changes the boot screen and to my understanding it sim locks to the carrier that the sim card uses. Complete bullsh!t I am irate and stuck with all of this garbage bloat courtesy of sprint and the locked bootloader thanks to samsung. Im returning mine
I bought my sprint s7 full price through best buy.
First thing I did was swap the sprint Sim with my AT&T Sim (testing first Sim inserted). Prompted with invalid Sim error.
Appears the sprint phones come with activation software pre-installed that locks it to their network. You need them to unlock it from their end, no unlock codes.
When I put the sprint Sim back in, it didn't install all the bloat. It installs everything if you activate the phone; unactivated Sim, no account.
According to sprint, the phone needs to be activated on the network for 50 days and paid in full to be unlocked. They unlocked mine without meeting those standard because of poor support from a rep before I bought it.
After you get it unlocked, you can just insert any sim (gsm/cdma) after?
I don't see any settings to change the network mode.
I'd like to know the same. I'm traveling over seas in less than two week and would like to use while over seas with the local carrier. Not so much concerned with using it with other carriers domestically though.
I'm also curious if the phone can be used for data on other carries once unlocked. I wonder because with my current Sprint GS5, Sprint unlocked it, but it does not work with data when over seas. Come to find out after a lot of research, there is no solution and everybody with unlocked Sprint GS5s also cannot get data to work without wifi.
OP, you may want to keep that in mind and do your research. If Sprint's GS7 is like their GS5, you will not be able to get data on the phone with other carriers even if unlocked, unless connected to wifi.
Yes, any Sim CDMA or GSM will work. And data works perfectly for me. The s7 is the same device for every carrier where the only thing that changes is the software.

With the Sprint model, there will be LTE issues overseas depending on where you go and which carrier you use.

I went to UK in 2013, had my S4 with me and was able to get data. I was not, however, able to get fast LTE speeds. Sprint cripples their LTE bands on purpose for some reason so that they become less useful on many international carriers.

Correct. Cricket is owned by AT&T, a carrier who did not get rid of band 7, despite the fact that they use Sprint's 3G network as well as CDMA. Do you have bands 25 and 26 as well? If so, that would be great!

You're also correct but this is a Sprint S7 network unlocked. And yes, I do. 25 and 26 are the first priority for me.

I don't actually. Knowing this I'm going to focus on attempting to add these bands (toggle them). Trying to get a hold of Sprint currently to get my MSL code.
The Galaxy S7 is DUC meaning it can be unlocked for domestic use, and it will automatically unlock tru a programming update sent OTA after the device has been active on the account(in good standing) for more than 50 days.

For those not in good standing, or who don't feel like waiting, find somebody with a Z3X-box, like myself, on craigslist. $45 (or usually in that area,) takes us 5-10 minutes, don't need root, and doesn't need to be clean. =]

Just bought a sprint s7 yesterday since it was cheaper for me and had it unlock from an ebay listing for about $15. It was quick like 2 minutes and easy. Its done remotely on the person's end with your phone connected to computer. I'm using it on Tmobile and is working great. I get lte speeds and call quailty is great. Getting to the service menu above ##3282# you can edit the band priorities so you can have the wanted bands 1st, 2nd, and so forth. Just need the MSL# which they can get you.

The US991 G4 comes carrier unlocked from US Cellular so if there are OS updates and such there shouldn't be any cases of carrier relocking (YMMV).
All in all if you are purchasing it just for general cellphone purposes it seems fine. Rooting and ROMing is another issue entirely.
If anyone can add some additional information to this I would be glad.

We're using one on T-Mobile, and everything is working just fine...no issues so far.
buydig had it for $290 on its eBay store (it went up now) with both black and red leather backs.
LTE bands are OK for AT&T (2,4,12,17) and T-Mobile (2,4,12) in the US.
It's missing LTE bands 1,3,7 which are used in Europe.
WCDMA doesn't have the 1700/2100 band that T-Mobile was using but has refarmed to 1900 in most areas now.
My friend bought the same buydig/ebay deal as above, is using it on Verizon. He just popped his sim out of his dead razr m and it works ok, except it being an unregistered device. His is listed as US99110A for software version, Kernel 3.10.40. It won't do a software update with the sim in (obviously) nor without the sim in it. I guess flashing the US Cellular KDZ over would work, but then it includes all their bloat and there's no way to get back to it's current unbranded status. Would be awesome if it could be updated.

Hi, I just received mine, also using on T-Mobile. Works fine, but a couple issues, and possibly a deal breaker:
(1) After upgrading to Marshmallow and signing onto Google to synchonize apps, LG Backup no longer works. Icon still there, but no response when clicked.
(2) Upgrading, from G3, happy to report that Facebook app no longer crashes with Acore error -- not sure if that's because (a) settings changed, (b) upgraded from G3 to G4, or (c) Marshmallow cured it
(3) Cannot find wifi calling, which is necessary for using free text on GoGoInflight-equipped airliners.
I like the $275 price, but #3 may be a deal breaker. If can't make it work within budget, must choose between NEW G4 without wifi-calling, or used G4 with it.
Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated!

I don't think wifi calling is available as-is with US991 on T-Mobile, but you may be able to use an app for it. Check out "Hangouts Dialer - Call Phones" app.
can any of you guys confirm whether 3g on T-mobile works? I can see that 2g and 4g LTE are fine, just not sure about 3g since my provider has 3g crossed out for this phone.
StraightTalk won't activate it on one of their Verizon SIMs even though it will work on Verizon. I sent mine back and bought a used Verizon model.

So, if you are in an area that T-Mobile refarmed their 3G from the 1700/2100 band to the 1900 band, then you should get 3G. My understanding is that they have done so in most if not all areas.
Just to confirm, will the US991 will get 4g on both verizon and gsm carriers? I have to switch my vzw sim back to a micro sim before I can try. I'm also going to switch to an mvno in a couple of months, just want to make sure it'll work.

It should work on Verizon LTE since it has all 3 LTE bands verizon uses.

Of course, as far as the phone supports the LTE band the GSM carrier work with and the phone is set to Global.
It supports LTE Band 2/4/5/12/13/17/25. I'm using it on GSM carriers with LTE band 2 and 4.

Just bought a new G4 on eBay with extra battery, battery charger cradle, and extra leather cover for $289 shipped. Brand new. Box says manufacture month was 03/16. Its working great so far. Its on MM out of the box. Threw an Unlimited T-Mobile SIM in it and its working pretty good. Nice.

Here's where im having some issues. Metropcs offers WiFi Calling on all their devices [ have a LG K7 ] as does T-mobile since they own metro. I noticed that the feature is MIA on my G4. I did some research and found out from LG that the phone itself was originally a US Cellular device. I then called US Celluar. I spoke with their techs and was informed that they don't offer WiFi calling at all with their service, but it doesnt mean the phone doesnt support it. Believe it or not, the tech told me that its more or less a software thing. I went through the stage to upgrade the device to Marshmallow, but apparently its not available. I noticed that all US Cellular LG G4's have Marshmallow. Im wondering if theres a root method that might fix my issues. I looked around and didnt see one for this LG G4 US99111a. I only see them for US99110. Can anyone here at XDA possibly help? Any and all info will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There is not root method yet. Since wifi calling is a metropcs/t-mobile feature you can't get it in a device is not from them, unless someone port a metropcs/t-mobile ROM to other carrier devices.

I kinda figured this was the case, but was hoping. Im wondering though that if and when US Cellular does support WiFi Calling, will an update from LG activate the feature. Either way, its a great phone. No complaints. Just wondering what marshmallow is like on it.

It does with other phones I have had. I owned an Iphone 6 Plus from Verizon. The phone is factory unlocked, and I used it on Tmobile/ATT/Sprint before moving to metro. Verizon initially didnt offer Wifi calling. The feature was active in the phone once I left verizon for the others. So its possible. So I've been looking through the V10 Android Development threads and wondering what it's been like on XDA with the V10 in terms of Dev support/ROMs/ etc. I've asked over there for feedback. Doesn't look like there's been much interest in the V10 phone from Devs? Is there a reason why? Locked bootloader? No "sources" released? Is there a CM ROM available anywhere?
Reason I ask is because I'm seriously considering getting a V20 which looks like a great phone and I've always had Nexus phones in the past. Currently rocking a Nexus 5 which I still love. The V20 looks to me almost like a larger more modern and advanced Nexus 5 (both made by LG). The G5 I saw in a phone shop and it really didn't appeal to me (build quality seemed poor). What's the likelihood the V20 will get decent Dev support? Is there anything that will make it more likely?
What specifically was wrong with the G5 build? My wife has the phone and we both think its pretty nice. At least as good as the Galaxy it replaced and probably a bit nicer.
I'm also interested in your original question. How much support will this phone get and will the boat loader enforce secure boot?

v10 was abandoned in short order after the bootlooping SNAFU.
This phone is starting life too expensive, unique snowflake hardware SKUs for every US carrier, And more than likely a locked bootloader (hopefully it can be unlocked). All those combined are a development death sentence. Assume no development, and be happy if there is any. Combined they make people who can develop firmware not even want to bother.
Remember the v20 has been on sale in Korea for a month now. How many buyers/users even post on XDA about it? Basically none AFAIK. There should already be a development charge, and maybe a root worked out or at least actively being tested. And there isn't any, not that has been made public.
lol dude we get it. every post of yours is the phone is too expensive and there's carrier versions of it... like every. other. phone. if you're so upset by price and carrier versions, why are you looming around these forums? go buy a 300 dollar phone and stop trying to sell everyone else on your opinion.

Considering there is an unlocked US model that seems will work for all carriers, I would think that would be the one that gets development and is quite conducive to it.
No development is getting slowed down because a phone is $800. That's the new norm if you want this high quality of a phone. Pixel will get tons of development, Note 7 was actually going really well despite the $864 price, and many others will too. The fact that it's LG and people overlook the brand continually will be the primary reason for lack of development, if that's the case.

The unlocked version WILL NOT WORK on Sprint at all (the model # and IMEI range will be completely wrong to pass their whitelist)...and unless you have an already active SIM, your new VZW SIM will not activate as the model number is wrong and your account will show "unauthorised device". This of course sets aside the problems of radio bands that are missing or wrong for your specific carrier. So at best you'll have poor service if any depending on where you are and the tower deployments in the areas you travel. Also we don't know how updates will be handled on the unlocked device--take for example recent Nexus devices that got carrier fed updates rather than direct from Google (although that at least was an option if you ADB'd factory images) Every carrier is a unique SKU with unique firmware. You may never get updates even from LG (it is a serious possibility and risk).
I hope you have lots of cash hoarded when your $800 gamble, that it will work on all carriers, screws you over
The ZTE Axon 7 could be a much better device with much more development potential that is 50% the frickin price. "$800 the new normal" indeed. Buy an iPhone 7 for less cash, not an iPhone wannabe with less long-range OS support and let's be honest worse standby battery life. Because yea let's be honest, in 12-18 months LG will quit updating the device while in 3 years the iPhone7 will probably still be getting OS updates.

Because folks ask questions...and get tremendously wrong answers. Like "the unlocked version that will work on all carriers". Echo chambers benefit no one. Until you see and know what having a unified hardware platform (like Nexus) does to accelerate development you don't get how screwed over you are by unique snowflake SKUs.
I too was excited for the v20, but LG fumbled the ball. in 3 months when the price comes down from the early-adopter surcharge (hopefully) I'll think about getting one. Depending on what I see.

Um, the unlocked version has all the Verizon bands and is completely compatible with all carriers from everything I have read.
The iPhone 7 is not a valid comparison at all. Different type of phone. iPhone 7+ model with more than 32GB of storage... That'll set you back over $800, like these other phones.
You're clearly an Apple lover so I'm not going to bother continuing to argue. LG V20 >>>>>> iPhone 7 that it's absurd to even compare, for me. I'd be really unhappy with that iPhone because it still lacks most qualities I desire in a phone. To each their own.

Then you clearly need to read more, not repeat flat out wrong info. The unlocked version is missing IIRC 1 Verizon CDMA 3G band (of 3), it is missing IIRC at least 1 WCDMA bands (out of 2 or 3), and it is missing IIRC 2+ LTE bands (Of 6 or 7 OTTOMH). The FCC filings showing that are available online. The same way that the unlocked version is similarly missing Spring CDMA/WCDMA/LTE bands. The radio support IS NOT THE SAME between VS995 and US996 and S997. It is NOT "completely compatible"-it is only sort of compatible....presuming it gets past carrier whitelisting of the IMEI and model number which on Sprint it 100% WILL NOT DO, and on Verizon it probably will presuming you already have a working SIM....then you have other problems to worry about (radio band support and updates).

The unlocked version also doesn't have AT&T's bands 29 & 30 and T-Mobile's Band 66. Personally, I plan to get the AT&T V20. I don't mind the (expected) lack of updates so much as long the current version doesn't have glaring bugs. For AT&T you also need a branded device for VoLTE.
I currently have the Nexus 5 and Google left it with major bugs for a few months (one of them was broken car Bluetooth). So my experience with Google wasn't that great. The Pixel devices look like bad iPhone and Galaxy copies.

Interesting. I'll look into it more.
I honestly don't care about development anyway - I left my Note 5 alone and loved it. I'm planning to do the same with the V20, but I do hope there is some development eventually just for fun.

The development is what I find cool. It is why I keep ending up being a tester for ROM teams (did it on Note 2, and still on Nexus 6)....but Android generally is getting really f'ing annoying on some of this crap. SafetyNet for example isn't just a framework for AndroidPay and stopping you from using your phone from paying for a burger due to Xposed, corporate email servers are now using it....so if you modify your firmware in any unauthorised way your employer may well not let your phone talk to your work email servers anymore (one of mi amigos on Team Twisted has this problem-nothing we can do). Google seems to be wanting to go iron-fisted in security and sacrificing FOSS development for "security".

FWIW....he mentions specifically kernel 3.18; that kernel is not only used by the upcoming Pixel but according to the posted v20 system dump, a few subforums down, is the kernel v20 is going to ship with as well. When that OP is speaking about shipping a brand new device in Q4 2016 with a 2-year-old+ kernel ceasing upstream patching in 2-3 months as being insanity.....he's not just talking Pixel, he's also talking v20.
I wouldn't borderline rant on it unless the device had a ton of potential...which v20 especially does, and seeing LG squander it with shortsighted planned obsolescence is frustrating.
Personally I am okay with not too many roms. All I need is root for Viper and a few other apps.
I really think that I'll get this phone to replace my G4. I had to come to terms that the bootloader will never be unlocked on all models except T-Mobile and certain international models. I've also accepted that there will be absolutely zero dev support.
Don't fault me for being pessimistic. Being optimistic with the possibility of Dev support and observing how the G4, G5 and V10 turned out is plain foolish.

Their listing for the VS995 is incorrect/incomplete compared to what the LG Electronics sent to the FCC and has on file. Read and compare, some of their entries are wrong (VS995 does indeed have Band 25), some like Band 66 are left out or missing (VS995 has that too). WCDMA is either seemingly absent although maybe they call that "UTMS". CDMA support is also flawed (should be 850/1900 for VS995 not 800/1900). I don't have easy to call up numbers for US996 ATM, but one way or another-their band support table is incorrect.

The phones are not radio band identical.
Yes the US996 is compatible with Verizon. I will have it on their network within 30 minutes of unpacking it from the box.

Actually, devs that tried supporting Note 7 are now interested in developing for the V20 from the online polls since the note 7 has been officially canceled
