Modify S200 GPS antenna to improve GPS signal strength

as you konw, S200 GPS is not easy to fix, let me tell you a simple method to fix this problem.
1. Turn off your S200, open rear cover, remove the battery, locate the gps antenna position.
refer to f1.jpg
2. Peel the black gps antenna carefully and turn over from left to right. use the multimeter to measure resistance between two electrodes and you'll find it's short-circuit status (~0 Ohms).
Look carefully at the root location of the antenna, there is a black transparent line, at the end of this line, you can find the short-circuit point, cut off this copper chips until the short-circuit point completely disconnected, then measure resistance between two electrodes to determine it is no longer short-circuit (Infinity ∞ Ohms).
refer to f2.jpg d1.jpg and modification diagram.jpg or this (surcart's pic).
recovery the antenna, turn on your S200 and test gps. Enjoy it !
refer to c1 and c2 pics (compare with HTC P3600, left is P3600, right is S200)
c1.jpg is before modify, c2.jpg is after .
btw, tracking speed is faster than before.
d1.jpg is a large pic
d2.jpg is the details after modified
maybe you can do it without peeling antenna off, try to cut the short-circuit position directly if you are not sure you can completely peel off. refer to d2.jpg or s200_p1.jpg(provided by wysxs, thx) or Victor79's pic .
Has someone tried it already?
of course, i‘ve finished this modification and tested, gps now is very fast to track
what do you mean with "confirm it's short-circuit status"?
but if this methode works, this would be great
Well, this would be excellent if it works as gps signal can be a pain in the ass to get on this phone. Can you explain in more detail and maybe a before and after-picture comparison on the removed "copper chips"? One that is more of a close up than the 2nd picture in your guide.
I'd like to know exactly what I'm doing before trying this out.
Thnx.
So can you make a video of this?
Yes a video would be fantastic
sorry for my english,
pls see these two pics (compare with HTC P3600, left is P3600, right is S200)
c1.jpg is before modify, c2.jpg is after modify:

That's great but can you open your modified s200 and take a picture like the f2.jpg that shows how it should look after you have removed the copper chips ?
We would like a more detailed guide of how to do this.

Good for you. I just lift up the tape a bit in one edge and realized that the tape is actually the antenna. Haven't done the mod yet. I expected a chip beneath the tape. How bad was your reception before the mod? Could you get a signal at all or nothing?
This thing might need a little more research. I was about to try this mod and started to peel the antenna off. I started at the top and the antenna accidentally tore a bit as you can see in the picture. Above and a little to the right of the white spot in the picture you can see the torn part. It's not torn all the way across but it's there. Anyway. I got a bit freaked out thinking I had ****ed the antenna up beyond rescue so I put the battery back in and started the gps viewer. Lo and behold I now have a stronger gps signal than before. Putting my phone in the same spot as before the tare i now have 5-8 satellites instead of the 2-3 I had before.
pls see modification diagram.jpg in first post, understand how to.
Why you guys don't use some tape to seal this? I don't think Acer put it there with no use. Did you check radio reception? Maybe that's the reason being there.

what do you mean "radio reception" ? GPS radio reception or GSM radio reception? If it's GPS, pls see c1.jpg and c2.jpg in above to compare signal strength. if GSM, pls see GSM.jpg to find where is GSM antenna location. i just modify GPS antenna. i don't think the reason that Acer put it there is just to “reduce” the signal strength.
do you think S200 GPS signal strength and tracking speed are too bad? compare with my HTC P3600, i think yes, but after modified, i think no.
I meant FM radio reception. Does ti still work fine with no hands free?

FM works fine, listening now, no hands free.
Hi!
Isn't any other way to solve this problem of short-circuit without cutting things inside phone?
Something to isolate it, as freco said?
I wanted it to be reversable, you know, there must be a reason to acer build it that way, they aren't a bunch of incompetent that could not see this short...
PS: What tools did you use to cut it? Just a little stiletto would do it?

[Q] when on GPS mode LG7 is almost burning

Yes, twice that happened,
the first time I used the software Sygic with my L7, after about 20 minutes, my phone was very very hot, and, I had to close it, I even used the cigaret lighter to ease the battery, not to prevail...
The second time, I was walking and used the GPS again, and after almost the same time, the phone was so hot, I could barely touch it, ( mind you, in the winter, this could be very handy to help your frozty fingers )...
Anyway, I bought this unit, because my Note 2, is still in the repair shop, and, my chance, what to do, again...? return the unit for repair, or...? this is a normal behavior from the LG7 optimus ? well if I can cook some very tiny eggs,
Thanks:cyclops:

No, that's not normal behavior. You should look into returning it, or at least trying a different GPS app. I've not heard of Sygic, have you tried Bing Maps or Garmin?

Thanks Sonus, for the reply,
In fact, I returned it, since I bought it, about 3 weeks ago, and, when the heat is coming, it is not coming where is located the battery, but, near the camera....we will see...and, no I did not try yet the Bing maps...
I was also wondering, we do have many softwares for GPS prupose, some fre, some not, but, my question is...how, and where and witch format we do need to import maps to ours devises to be able to use, either GPS, or tracing or tracking ? I am not familiar with the processus....Also, what would be a good software for tracing my way back to point 1 ? I ask, because, I love to go into woods, not big one, with my dog, and for that would like to use my android phone...I stll have an old Garmin, I could use, but, if not needed to have 2 GPS's would be nice...

Hi
recently am facing issues with this s view.
I am not using a s view cover but still the phone shifts to s view suddenly. But only for a second or so and again comes back to normal.
this happens quite often for me when am just holding the phone. Or trying to make a call.this is annoying.
Is my s4 broke.. am worried.
please help me out to solve this
You have to move your phone in a figure 8 position in the air about three times to calibrate your compass for it to work properly.
The flip view cover contains a magnet which screws with the compass, rendering it useless. If you're using the cover remove it and see if it helps.

Was that answer for me.... please let me know... how to work this out and how does this work
No dude. It was for the person trying to calibrate their compass.
Calibrations doesn't help ...
I've got CM 5.1 + newest GAAPS and calibration of compass last only for few seconds-2/3 minutes tops and then it's gone and compass again showing wrong directions not even restarting Google Maps - (usually 180* degree opposite to the actual direction). Funny thing, when I downgraded to original Orange Kit Kat 4.4.2 compass worked precise so It assured me, that there is not problem with hardware only software. I cannot use: *#0*# because my I9505 says "Problem with the connection or wrong MMI code" (translating from polish).
All other things including GPS, accelerometer and other sensors works perfectly well.
Anybody know the solution?

GPS no fix, please help!

Hello, I'm a "noob" on android but I think I'm a quick learner but I really need help..
I have a note 3 N-9005 that I bought and in the second day I was annoyed with touchwiz and I installed temasek's rom and kernel (I dont know how to flash kernel, it changed when I changed rom).. But I'm loving this rom!
One of this days I installed a app called gps test and gps status and I got no fix! sometimes 2sat. but almost allways 0sat.
I want to know if its the phone its damaged, rom problem, kernel or whatever..
Can somebody give me a light please? Many thanks
GPS is kernel.
Flash stock rom and test gps .
and try Device Only (GPS only).. not high accuracy
thanks for the replys!
I installed stock rom and still having the problem, installed back temasek rom and I started to think that the problem was hardware.
I read some guides were they say to tight up the screws on the back.. I did that and no improvement...
Then I removed the 10 screws and lift up the gps contact and clean it up because it may oxidize.. But still no improvement
After some attempts I started to think that the problem was maybe of the mid frame (were the screws are screwed) because it was a little bent...
I put it straigh, puxing it hard to a flat table.. Assembled and now I have a fix in 5 seconds or less... I think that maybe this can help somebody
And sorry for my bad english
You can't do anything I think. This phone has some problem with GPS, the N9005 version I mean, it never worked properly for me. The only think you need to keep in mind that, this device depends heavily on AGPS data, so just make sure that AGPS data is being downloaded at a frequent interval. Use GPS Status to set the interval.
There was an app, which would show you GPS locked always, probably it faked some data to make the phone realise that AGPS data is latest, some Indian dude posted it quite a long time ago in this Q&A section, it worked for me, didn't check about accuracy, but phone would always show GPS locked! Have forgotten the name of the app though, you could do a search.
try *#9090#
menu > key input> Q
menu> key input > 0000
wait awhile
UMTS > Common > NV rebuild > NV rebuild > system , protocol , GPS ,IMS.
you might have a problem with the antenna ... i had
you had to open the phone ... get to the gps module and play with the contacts ... it's not that difficult
try to find instructions on youtube
Thanks for the replys..
I said before "After some attempts I started to think that the problem was maybe of the mid frame (were the screws are screwed) because it was a little bent...

So.. the problem is fixed!!!! and it wasnt the contacts on the board, it was the mid frame that was "bent"
many thanks
Could you/ someone tell me where is this mid frame exactly? Will you have to unscrew the screws or one can do that without removing them?
A picture of this mid frame section would really be great.
hi.. what I called mid frame is the part that comes off when you take out the screws that you can see when you take out the back cover.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1ntOfJS_1c (see this video to 3:10min) take attention what he says at 3:00min)
here is a photo of what you will see after remove that "mid frame" http://s3.postimg.org/gnfn2hslf/image.jpg
in the photo in red you can see gps /lte / wifi antenas... they should look like the ones on the image!!! they cant be bended, if they are put them in the right spot ... you can lift them a little to make beter contact with the "mid frame"
now what I made to fix mine:
my mid frame was bent because its plastic.. I pressed it hard against a flat table to unbend it...
put all on place and make sure the mid frame contacts are toching the antenas that you can see on the image..
screws need to be put in place screwed till the end to make the mid fame make a good contact with antenas.
srry for my english, just trying to help

Lg spirit h420 gps issue

i have a seriuos issue with this device
3 brand new devices all having the same problem with GPS.
it doesn't connect even for a second
i open gps status and toolbox, it recognizes 12 satellites but can't fixate on any of them.
changed gps.conf to the proper continent and country, still nothing.
could this be bad gps module on all of them?
version is v10a-eur-xx
Any, and I mean ANY Mediatek chipsed based phone has issues with GPS, at least in Europe.
This is the sole reason I avoid Mediatek like the plague.
Just Google "Mediatek GPS problem". There are possible fixes, but you have to try them out yourself.
I have the same problema whith my LG H420...
How can i fix it ?
I had the same problem minutes ago. The views may come from a-gps sinse it didin't detect any signal. The problem is that the 3 screws on the bottom of the phone, where the gps antenna is, get loose. I have tighten the screws and... it worked. Now it find singal and fix on sattelites indoor and outdoor.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67805410&postcount=1522
Worked for me, on H440N.
When I Lollipop GPS was wrong , since I upgraded to MM GPS has improved a lot , however, often use the app " GPS Connected" to fix in a stable satellites
I tried everything but it does not set the satélites !
3 screws were tight !
But even then I squeezed more !
what can I do ?? :crying: :crying:
I have tried "EPO Tools free" by eben80 and the connection and stability of GPS is better
Rats, I have the same issue with my h440n ... it used to work now and then before ... like half the time. Recently it sorta worked 1 out of 10 times and now it seems dead completely. Maybe that's due to the fact that I dropped it seriously multiple times and recently even cracked the digitizer big time. I'm NOT with Mediatek so I should be fine, but I'm not. Has anyone else with the h440n had this issue and resolved it successfully? I'm trying to find sth on ebay but other than this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Loud-Spea...478333?hash=item25a70da17d:g:dRAAAOSwv0tVZK2P
I cannot find anything else as a spare part. Not even sure if that one includes a gps module ... just says speaker and antenna ...

The trick with tightening the bottom 3 screws, close to the speaker, actually DID help me. I tightened them quite a bit and that seems to have resolved the issue for now. Big ups to whoever it was that came up with this super easy fix and damn LG ... poor build quality, still an ok phone though, for the bucks.
EDIT: After some testing - the fix worked, as I said, but GPS signal is still somewhat poor. It is enough to get you from point A to B, in a way, but the signal keeps on dropping. It simply won't lock to any satellite gps, constantly loses connection and reconnects again, and then the same again. I've read there are some apps that can help with that. Will try out some. If anyone has a solid one that fixes this, do mention it.
We need to fix it soon, or we forget Pokemon Go!
:crying::crying:
This did work for me
