Help needed - A2017G TWRP backup - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hi guys
Does anyone have a TWRP A2017G backup their willing to share?
I've lost IMEI and MEID and am trying to recover

Seconded. I seem to be in the same situation. Don't know if a TWRP backup will help, but I've been unable to connect to the cellular network after restoring a full TWRP backup which I suppose I shouldnt've restored. Re-entering my IMEI via a TWRP module didn't help as well. Neither does the adb shell dd command that formats the EFS partition found in another thread... Restoring EFS I backed up a while ago didn't help me as well.
Thanks in advance.

I have tried going back to stock boot/recovery backups, flashing every single A2017G update and even tried Tenfar's tool to restore the removed backups in his thread. Cannot seem to fix
Only had this phone for 3 days and it's now useless.

Do you have a backup you could share?

As far as I know, the EFS bit is unique to each device. It contains your IMEI code, for example, which is unique for each device.... I can give you mine, but I'm not sure if that will help you.
I'll probably make a new thread asking for some help because I've tried about everything and I can't fix this mess on my own... I hope I won't have to send it back, no way of knowing they'll believe me

I've been doing some googling and perhaps we need a modem.bin file from a A2017G?
this is really not looking good

[Q] SM-N900 EFS nv_dat.bin corrupt EFS etc Pease HELP!!!!

I have a sm-n900 exynos and I have lost my imei and baseband during a Samsung flash. I have a TWRP backup, efs.img backup by dr.ketan's backup tool but nothing is able to restore my efs. I have scanned emmc blocks for bricked blocks and all blocks come back as non-corrupted. may be the partition is corrupted .how do I erase my efs partition to rebuild it. I have tired to flash PIT from ODIN but that too doesn't work.
tried this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...567133&page=36
but need a guide to identify the partitions and how to rebuild them. by any chance anyone know if I could extract twrp backup to files to restore efs or from efs.img so I can use the nv_data.bin, since tried restoring the backups and it didn't restore I feel the partition might be corrupt and hence not being re-written. so might be I have to rebuild the partitions by formatting as explained in this thread. but I don't know exactly the steps for exynos variant. I tried using terminal on twrp but mkef2 command shows mmbcblkp03 doesn't exist which as I have read in posts is the efs partition on this phone and reboots to twrp recovery. and mmbcblkp12 show filesystem too small and reboots to twrp recovery
Can some one upload sm-n900 efs folder may be can try and edit nv_data in hex editer

Could you provide more details about the backup you have:
- What files do you have? What is the name of these files, and also the file sizes?

If that's your EFS back up, I'd remove it, or someone else is gonna enjoy your IMEI

So it seems you have the correct backup for your device. Some more questions:
1- Can you show the link to the EFS tool you have used to make a backup?
2- What is your difficulty now? You don't know how to restore? Cannot restore? Or you already restored but the problem still persist?
Please be noted that you have to restore ALL efs-related partitions, NOT only 1 partition.
At the moment, my app 'IMEI Backup ★Samsung★' can only restore from the backup that has been made by it. But I will add the ability to restore from the backup which was made by other apps, may be in the next release.

That means the above-mentioned app does not work correctly with the restoring job?
Has your phone been rooted? If yes, I will guide you some steps to restore manually.

request
Hi, please, can someone upload his efs.IMG from sm-n900 ?
I want to write it inside my phone to try with a box if it possible to write after my imei loosed.
I have null/null and no backup from telephone!

Messed my phone up :( via the good ol' "baseband unknown" issue

I was doing some rather regular restores from TWRP when all of a sudden I lost my Baseband with no [apparent] way to recover it.
I flashed 4.4 and 5.0 stock ROMs. Nothing. I flashed the modem [CP_N9005XXUGBPB1_MODEM.tar.md5] a zillion times. No luck.
I tried flashing this baby, made by a fellow XDA'er:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507403
It's based on a script that supposedly fixes this issue. Also no luck. Still stuck on "unknown" baseband, no mobile network
Any help is MUCH appreciated. It's 00:18 and for the past 3 hours I've tried to recover from this...
P.S.: I have a full backup of ALL my partitions, so I think I can recover from this. Somehow...

Well, I tried to restore the entire OS via TWRP from my full backup. And now, since you mentioned it, I also tried restoring ONLY the EFS. No go
Do you have an actual backed up EFS folder .

I have these files among my TWRP backup files:
efs1.emmc.win 14 MB
efs2.emmc.win 3 MB
efs3.emmc.win 3 MB
I always back up all partitions.
Upon restore, I can see an "efs" folder in the root (along side etc, acct, mnt etc) but the folder is empty.
I have NOT taken any manual backups of the efs folder (as in copy the folder itself), nor did I use a tool such as EFS Professional. I found out about these too late
I was hoping that TWRP does what it says when it "backs up" data. Am I to understand that I just destroyed my phone because TWRP didn't back up my efs?
Sadly thats not an EFS backup .
A shop with a JTag should be able to fix it .

Ouch. Much appreciated, despite the bad news .
I'm quite angry on TWRP now. What did they mean by "efs" backup, if there's no actual backup?
So this means they have to access the phone motherboard to do... what? What should I ask them to do? Flash me a new IMEI?

Weird Cellular/IMEI/EFS issue.

I installed TWRP 3.0.2-0 on my axon A2017G B03, unlocked the bootloader, installed CM13 after a small hiccup (had to temporarily install A2017G B06 and Bootstack).
All went well, I really enjoyed my phone. The only problem was that I'm an audiophile and there was a big distortion on the speakers.
I tried to install a Dolby zip via TWRP to improve this. Before I did that, I took a full TWRP backup.
The Dolby app didn't help one bit, after which I wanted to rollback by restoring the backup. Appearently, restoring the EFS is a really bad idea, since after that, CM13 wouldn't boot anymore. So, I tried using DrakenFX' B06 bootstack and stock image. When I did that, my phone could not connect to Wi-Fi nor detect my SIM-card.
Using the commands
Code:
adb shell dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modemst1 and dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modemst2
I restored my Wi-Fi. My phone now recognises my SIM-card, but I can't connect to the cellular networks. I have no IMEI. It can detect cellular networks, but not connect to them.
I have "efs1.emmc.win" and "efs1.emmc.win.md5" files from the TWRP backup of CM13 from just before I killed my cellular and another EFS backup I took just before unlocking BL and flashing TWRP (A2017G B06).
When I do a clean install of A2017G B06 and restore the TWRP EFS backup I made when on B06, when the phone boots, the phone doesn't detect my SIM.
When I do a clean install of CM13 and restore the TWRP EFS backup I made when on CM, CM13 doesn't boot at all.
I've spent about a day trying just about anything. Nothing seems to work. Can someone pull their modem file? Or would flashing NON-HLOS.bin help? Is there a different way of restoring my EFS backups? I read something about TWRP 3.0.2-0 not playing nice with EFS. Would flashing TWRP 3.0.2-2 and then restoring EFS work? Or is there a way to restore the phone back to "just-out-of-the-box" status? I don't mind losing unlocked BL or TWRP, I can do that all again. I thought as long as I backup everything including EFS, nothing can really go wrong. A user in XDA posted that "shady" guides that "don't get discussed at XDA" can usually help you get IMEI back. I don't want to illicit illegal practices here, but I'm desperate enough to try just about anything.
Thanks a lot for your help. If no-one here can help me, I suppose it's back to amazon. And probably pay a decent amount for it, too
Perhaps try flashing newer twrp version and restore your efs backup?

It seems that I am having the same kind of issue with the newest version of TWRP. After having some issues with incoming and outgoing phone calls, I stumbled across the above command. After using the command I lost my ability to connect to my network operator. Therefore I tried to do a recovery from TWRP and now I'm stuck with an IMEI which shows "0".
Sadly it seems that I don't have a backup of my efs partition (noob) and now I'm desperately finding possible solutions.
Any ideas? I feel that the trying to connect to the network with no IMEI is the cause of my problem...

Both myself, Controllerboy and many others pretty much tried everything to restore working imei numbers to no avail. Only solution for both of us was to RMA our phones unfortunately.

That's exactly not the answer I wanted to hear
I think in that case it would be advisable to go back t stock and lock the bootloader? And have you been presented with a bill from Amazon/ZTE?
Flash modemst won't work anyway, you have to flash full bootstack.
Install TWRP, then flash A2016G bootstack file that DrakenFX provided

Already tried going back to stock with the bootstack and files provided by DrakenFX, but the mobile network connection won't work.
It started of with connecting to the mobile network, at least it showed full bars, but without a data connection. After a few minutes
the connection to the network was lost and I haven't been able to register again.
So it seems that Trebor is right, sadly...

How to backup IMEI (efs parition) ?

Hi folks
How to take a backup of the efs partition ? I am not seeing it in twrp partitions list for backup. Any help is highly appreciated.
If you are looking for a quick solution, you can try the app(s) available in play store. Requires root and I believe you are rooted.
Nandroid backup through TWRP will save EFS with other partitions. Or you can try terminal commands through TWRP for backing up the modem files. Don't ask me for commands, I will probably mess up the code !
