XT1563 6.0.1 Rooting - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello forum,
Is it truly possible to root the xt1563 running 6.0.1? I've followed multiple sties with instrutions and when I can easily get past unlocking the bootloader, installing twrp but when I go to install the supersu from twrp, I go into a boot loop.
Can someone here say that they've successfully rooted their xt1563 running 6.0.1? If so, where did you get your files?
Thanks!

I rooted my XT1603 on 6.0.1 successfully. I used twrp-lux-3.0.2-r3.img and flashed supersu 2.46, got a bootloop. I reflashed supersu 2.62-3, still got a bootloop. Then I reflashed supersu 2.65 and it worked. Thanks to this post:

thanks chinhodado. I will try to flash with 2.65. Do you know where I can find the same file you used?

Here: https://download.chainfire.eu/921/SuperSU

Didn't work. I first tried 2.65 then it froze on load-up. I left it for about 3 minutes, then rebooted in recovery. Tried 2.62 same thing. I left it load this time for 7 minutes. Stuck on motorola planet picture.
I honestly don't know what it takes to root this device. oneclickroot.com offer rooting for 39.95 which I think is silly. Somehow they seem confident that they are able to sell a "root" package.
I remain confused and frustrated.
thanks for trying to help chinhodado

Did you try wiping the cache? I think I had to do that several times too.

yeah that and davlik

only systemless method work on moto x play whether its XT1562 / 1563
Go to terminal in TWRP - Advanced-Terminal type command in your phone
Code: echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/general/how-to-root-moto-x-play-xt1562-running-t3509344

I did not have to enter any command when I rooted my phone and it still succeeded in the end. I think 2.62-3 uses systemless root by default. It doesn't hurt to try though.

I am getting the same problem on XT1562, it stucks on Bootloader warning, tried everything above and available elsewhere. Help!

How did you flashed the 2.62 zip file if when you get to recovery, TWRP don't recognize the file, no matter the folder where you put it.
That is what happens to me. Any advice?

Sounds like you installed a version prior to 2.61. You can transfer it to your phone when in TWRP. Try flashing it and rebooting, if that doesn't work you'll have to do a full restore from your backup and reboot, then flash Supersu 2.62.

Is there a working version for 6.0.1? I've been trying to root for hours and nothing. Every time I install SuperSU (I've tried 2.65 and 2.74) it will softbrick my phone, making it stuck at the bootloader warning message, forcing me to flash install stock rom and go through the fresh install every time.
Any one plz help me .i have installed Twrp 3.0.2 and after installing supersu 2.65 i have lost my base band data .i have installed the stock rom and tried to install supersu 2.62 and 2.46 but no use again i have lost my base band data.plzz help me to root my device with out losing base band data??
After reading some threads someone said you can install and use all the latest su versions by installing it systemless. You must open the terminal command in twrp recovery and type this:
echo "SYSTEMLESS=true" >> /data/.supersu
After this you should be able to flash all newest/latest versions.
is this sure?has anyone tryied it?I can't run an app that needs latest supersu.I am on 2.62-3.

Im now running su 2.71 after installing it systemless. Before I tried this my ROM stucked in a bootloop.
so with 2.71 is ok?
mmmm I read some weird things such as loose root when f.reset http://m.supersuroot.com/

Trying MPD24.107-70, supersu fails catastrophically

As the title implies, i wanted to give XT1562_LUX_RETASIA_DS_6.0.1_MPD24.107-70 a shot. Flashing works fine. I can boot the system, SIMs and WLAN work. TWRP 3.0.2-r3 works.
What doesn't work is supersu. I tried 2.62 and 2.76 both, it installs in system mode, then gets stuck while booting. 2.76 on the "M powered by android" boot image, before the "globe" animation started, and 2.62 after the globe animation. I wiped cache/dalvik, tried not wiping it, no-go. Just restarting the MXP doesn't help either.
Are there more things i could try, is anyone using that firmware yet? Which supersu? Do i have to factory reset before using supersu maybe?
Booting into recovery immediatly after flashing in fastboot doesn't work, as the internal sd cannot be mounted by twrp unless the system booted once.
It needs to be systemless, mate

I have also flashed the same firmware using rsd lite. Then flashed twrp-lux-2.8.7-r4 through adb. After that just flashed supersu 2.62 normally and everything is working fine.I do not know what is systemless root and how it is done. But the normal flashing has worked for me.

Thank you, i had been looking for this. The stupid blogs i googled regarding systemless only said supersu would choose it automatically if it had to. WELL APPARENTLY NOT
@HerySean
Unlike a "system" root the "systemless" approach does not actually modify your rom. It does some trickery while booting to achieve the same. Advantage: There won't be any bootloops ever, if a problem occurs you just won't have root. Also stuff like google pay. Disadvantages: A factory wipe will wipe a systemless root.

Oh I get it, thanks, the same thing I did back then to my Xperia C
Are there more steps to this? The systemless root seems to work fine, i boot, but the supersu app claims the device is not rooted....
btw, does it bring a new baseband? edit: doesn't seem so new actually
After several attempts 2.62 worked after all, in system mode even. I don't even know.

Lost root after updating Supersu (US996)

Hey, today Supersu wanted to update from the play store so i updated it, and once it was done it asked to restart the phone like usual, i restarted and when it was done booting supersu said the phone was no longer rooted. Not exactly sure what to do to fix this, i am on the unlocked V20 (US996) i am not running any rom, just stock and root. Hopefully you guys can help me get root back on my phone, thank you.
If you have TWRP installed , try to flash a supersu zip file for the update or one from a rom in the development thread . I just updated myself but didn't reboot yet.
I think the Playstore update screws it up.
You need to search the update .zip and flash it in recovery.
SuperSU 2.80 and 2.81 are both broken. Flash 2.79 SR3 in TWRP and root will be back. Worked for me anyway.
P.S. Don't re-update through the Play Store until they fix the issue, just stay with 2.79 SR3 for now.

I downloaded the supersu zip from chainfire's site supersu 2.46. Flashed it and then rebooted, however the boot never ended, it doesn't seem to be bootlooping it just gets to the final boot animation and sits on that, waited 10 minutes and it still never made it to the home screen, trying to figure out how to get into twrp from here.
Okay, i found this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/booting-recovery-t3488099/page2 which states that pressing the power and volume down button in a certain way will take me to a white screen asking me to reset my phone and that if i have twrp installed (Which i do) it will take me to twrp saying yes, should i do this to get to twrp and then flash Supersu 2.79 as jeston suggested? And should i wipe dalvik/cache after flashing?
Okay i fixed it, entered the bootloader by doing the power and volume button factory reset thing i found and then flashed supersu 2.79, then wiped the dalvik/cache and rebooted, it bootlooped once but it started after that and is working perfectly! Thank you all for your help!
Good to see you're sorted now.

I had the same problem. Lost root after allowing supersu to update from playstore.
Just flashed supersu2.79.zip in twrp and was rooted again.
I lost root after updating SuperSU. I don't think it was from the Play Store, it was a SuperSU notification that kept bugging so I let it do it's thing and then lost root after rebooting. I do not have TWRP because I have a locked bootloader (Samsung on Verizon). How do I get it back?

SuperSU randomly losing root?

I just got my unlocked G5 Plus (XT1687) today and I've unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP and SuperSU.
However, SuperSU seems to be randomly losing root access. It works for a little while, but then I'll get an error in SuperSU about root undetected and I have to reboot back into TWRP and reflash SuperSU. This has happened 3 times so far today.
Has anyone seen this issue in the stock rom? Is there some security process stealthily running in the background that deletes the su binary on a regular basis? I'm running build number NPN25.137-33.
Edit: SuperSU is running in systemless mode
I rooted mine using the Toolkit here yesterday and that afternoon it acted like i lost root. Root checker would say i didn't have root and just constantly flash that it was trying to get permission. I restarted it and it's been fine ever since.
I tried rebooting and it restores root temporarily, but I'm still losing it constantly (no set time interval, but I've seen it lost within a few minutes of a restart). Getting really annoying.
Would flashing one of the modified stock kernels potentially help this?
Hi,
I've the same problem. XT1685
Already done:
- reflash stock
- reflash updated stock
- reflash SuperSu 2.82 SR3 and SR4
Ever the same, after some (short) time the root is lost.
Unrooted from SuperSu app and installed Magisk 14.0: loses root after some moments!
Edit: after some reboots now its working. The root is maintained from 2 days. So Magisk 14.0 works.
Hi.
Here another confirmation. My XT1687 loses root rights once in a while. I’d say it’s about every 3rd day or so.. Simple reboot brings root rights back.
Config:
Build: NPN25.137-83
Kernel: 3.18.31-ElementalX
Root: Magigk 14.0
EDIT: When checking Magisk App I found out that Magisk crashed each time I started Superuser. So, I deinstalled Magisk and re-installed again. No problem ever since.
Always remember to un-optimize Magisk- (or SuperU-) App in battery options! "Boeffla-Doze-Control" also helps to avoid apps from falling asleep.
On StokROM + SuperSU 2.82SR5, I also experienced the same situation.
Running the following command no longer causes problems.
Code:
ln -s /su/bin/su /system/bin/su
Hello there.
I actually rooted my Moto G5 Plus according to this instructions. I flashed TWRP 3.2.1.0 and the last stabel SuperSU.
I also uninstalled SuperSU over "apps" on Stock Rom and tried to flash Magisk, but this causes in an error while flashing (It says something about "Error 1" and about the path, where the magisk.zip is, for further information I would try to flash again and tell you the whole error).
The latest thing I tried was running the command from highwaystar2699 over the terminal from TWRP, but still I loose root randomly.
Can anybody help? =(
Thanks in advance

Well, I can say, that after some updates of Magisk I don't experience the problem anymore. Neither me nor a friend who has the G5 (not Plus) have ever lost our root since being on Magisk Version 16.0
Maybe you should give Magisk a try...

Like I said, installing Magisk returns an error.
Nevertheless, after I ran the command from @highwaystar2699 and canceled the battery-optimization of SuperSU I've got still root after already 5 days of using the phone.
So, thanks for your help, for now =)
I have no ideas that you can solve your problem ...
What I got interested in your post(#8) is "I also uninstalled SuperSU over apps on Stock Rom".
If there is no mistake in my memory, SuperSU have an "unroot" menu, which should be used to uninstall SuperSU.
Did you uninstall by using "unroot" menu?
In any case, I am not sure how to recover the state of your g5plus.
I will not be able to help you. sorry.

Just boot into TWRP and open the terminal (you can find it under "advanced" or "tools", not completely sure right now) and run that command. Maybe you should check where the mentioned su-folder is located right now on your phone, 'cause in my case it was at a different location.
@highwaystar2699: Yeah, afterwards I also realized that unroot-option
So maybe I have to unroot with that option and retry to install magisk. I will try that maybe, if I should loose root again. Or when the next update comes. (I'm a little afraid about that. Sounds difficult to OTA-update after rooting your G5 Plus...)
Either way: Thanks for your help! If I try something, I will report about it here
Super SU working for G5 plus. I don't think so. It has some problems. Bootloops are frequent.
Sooooo, hello again all! @highwaystar2699: I lost root again after one hour when I had to reboot the phone so I just thought about: "Why don't give it a try now?"
So I flashed the superSU again in TWRP to get root, startet the SuperSU app and choose "Unroot". I was asked if I want to unroot because of an OTA update, which I answered with "no". The app closed and root was gone.
I rebooted into recovery and tried to install the magisk 16.0 zip aaaaaaannnnd...
...got Error 1 again.
At the point "Unmounting partitions", TWRP says
"Updater process ended with ERROR: 1
Error installing zip file '/sdcard/Magisk-v16.0.zip'"
Now I'm back to superSU again. Damn, I don't know whats wrong here =(
Short edit for @Yeshu_bablu: Yes, after installing superSU, you've got 2 to 3 bootloops. But only the first time. After it's installed, the phone boots normal.
So, according to you... Which is better? SuperSU or Magisk?
SuperSU is obsolete, twrp you need latest version 3.2.1.0 or higher number if updated.
Once twrp installed you can install the rom of your choice with or without gapps package of your choice.
Then you can install magisk 16.3 for root and modules if wanted.

I'm sorry, SuperSu or Magisk?
Short update and big thanks to @highwaystar2699 and @Wolfcity.
After I completely lost root with SuperSU, I tried to install Magisk but failed everytime with already known Error 1.
But finally, after I got a stock boot.img and flashed it and instantly (!) installed Magisk after flashing the boot.img, the phone startet normal and now I've got root without problems.
FIY: When I only flash the boot.img and don't root it in TWRP, the phone keeps bootlooping.
So, to give @Yeshu_bablu an answer: Magisk is better. SuperSu only make problems with Moto G5 Plus. Magisk works like a charm.

Bootloop?

So I just got my Nexus 6p today and I've tried rooting this thing but it just kept making me stuck on the google logo. I successfully unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP but everytime I installed from ZIP SuperSU or Magisk it would keep getting me stuck on the google logo. I've tried this several times because I could still go to bootloader. I've flashed the stock image a couple of times and reinstalled TWRP but I just can't get it to root.
Edit: I have flashed to stock and I'm on 6.0. I haven't tried reinstalling TWRP but the bootloader is unlocked and everything else is stock.
Edit 2: I just flashed TWRP and now I'm stuck on the google logo. Wtf is this??

Could be because you are on older version of Android. Did you make sure you are on the correct bootloader? Anyways I found with stock you must complete the initial setup then you can go back and root later. I've had success with Magisk 16.0 on nougat and Oreo so don't see why it wouldn't work on marshmallow.

What is a 'correct bootloader' anyway? I am on the latest bootloader and flashed latest factory images and still bootlooping, can't even make it to recovery mode (flashed 4-cores TWRP after I flashed stock).

Ok sorry you said 6.0 in comment that's why I asked about bootloader. Also thought was just the root giving you a hard time not the dreaded bootloop that some 6Ps get.
