I'm sorry if my below questions have been already push, but i'm not very good in english and I'm not sure to have understood all the inforamtions available in the forum
I bought 2 fire HD 2016 6th Gen for my childs and I want root them or at least install the Google play store.
Is it possible?
What have I to check?
Which How To, have I to use?

- not possible at present (no root for 6th gen HD8)

Bad news is that WM 7 may delayed to 201?.
We don't know if the HTC HD2 will get a WM7 upgrade.
Neither HTC knows if they will or won't build a CE7 kernel for it.

Hey guys, I am pretty close to snapping up a Kindle Fire and would like to know whether this could be possible at some stage. I don't want this to sound like a whinging demand, just a friendly enquiry
I realise that getting Ubuntu or a similar distro to run properly on the Fire would be a huge task and I definitely don't have the skills to make this possible (though I would love to learn how to). So I am just wondering if anyone out there is or will be working on this in the future. I'd also be happy to contribute to a dev fund to get this done!
It would be so awesome to be able to have a full linux distro on such a portable and affordable tablet as the Fire, don't you think?

Like dude said, no need to apologize. But I do have to ask, did you really search the Kindle Fire General Forum? All I had to do was click "Search this forum" and typed "ubuntu", got it first try.

Yeah, I did search initially but I just tried the search again and found it first go, like you said. I have no idea how I missed it the first time!
Anyway, no harm done. Just pretty keen to be running something like this natively on the Fire. I only bought mine from the XDA Marketplace today and hopefully will be able to try out VNC when it arrives.

Tekify has released a video on his YouTube channel showing how to do it. Worked for me
I just ordered the new Fire HD 10 since the price dropped to $120 (missed the $99 black Friday deal). Won't get it until 12/28. No idea which version of Fire OS it will come with but if it's not 5.6, can I turn off auto-updates during or after setup before it updates itself? It seems from reading here that 5.6 makes quite a few things more difficult. My intent is to install the Play Store/Play Services so I can get the Google apps I like.
