Any way to change the fingerprint sensor to only respond when unlocked? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Is there any way to change how the fingerprint sensor responds so you have to press the button to turn the phone on instead of it just recognizing your fingerprint?

Doesn't that kind of make it pointless?

Its already set up like that.
If you don't place your finger into the button properly for scan, and press the button imstead than it just turns on screen and goes to lock screen.

I want to be able to hold the phone in my hand without accidentally unlocking it. I'm used to a Samsung phone where it's unlocked from the front button and now I'm constantly unlocking the phone just by placing my fingers on the sensor, that's why I'd like it to not read my fingerprint until I press the button.

OH, I see. You want it to not engage until the button pushes in. Not sure how we could go about that. I've unlocked on accident a few times, but I've gotten used to holding the phone a certain way and it's not too much of a problem. I actually like it to be honest. I've registered both index and middle fingers on each hand, and when I pick up the phone, I kind of slide it into my hand a certain way where it just falls on one of those fingers perfectly, and I get unlock immediately.
I get your point though.. Hopefully someone can find a way. Shouldn't be too hard.

Screen lock unusable?

With all that screen to touch, having this thing wake up in your pocket (or holster in my case) it bad - it registers keypresses all over the place, and so far it's deleted appointments and other fun stuff for me.
There is the screen lock (hold down right-most softkey a few seconds) but for me at least if an alert wakes the phone, the screen activates and looks normal, but all hardkeys are disabled. Can't even shut the phone down, have to hit the soft reset button, so conveniently located under the battery cover (argh, talk about dumb design choices...)
So anyone have any ideas on the screen lock? I'd even be willing to dedicate the left-most soft-key long-press to a third party lock, as long as it works properly.
u can use s2u2 IPHONE like screen lock
Hold the hang up button to lock, to unlock press the word unlock and a screen will apear saying To unlock device Tap unlock.
Yeah I did that, the hold hang up button thing... that's what's partly unlocking itself, which is a pain to say the least.
Gonna try Throttlelock. Haven't found any really Manila-lookalike skin yet but it seems to do what I want - lock the device - and even adds a little security.
And what about just clicking once on the power button after locking the device using the hold hang up thing?
Doesn't it does what you need? Press again to wake up the mobile?

No, what happen is: I hold down end call to get the device to lock. Then I tap the power button to close down the screen too.
However, a reminder kicks in and that brings the screen back online AND live, so touching it can do stuff. But, the device is still somehow "locked"... except the only thing that is well and truly locked are all the buttons. Power button, volume buttons, even the softkeys on the front, none of them do anything, but the screen works only too well.
There is now way I found to recover from that state except a soft reset. That boots the device - in locked mode, so I have to hit Unlock and then tap the button on the middle of the screen.
I need a lock that is lock, ie it doesn't activate the screen or buttons no matter what, until I unlock it myself. Looks like Throttlelock may be the answer though.

keypad lock/unlock buttons

Is there any way of changing the unlock proceedure of pressing the left proud button, then the right one?
i'm having issues with my phone inside a krussel wallet when in my pocket.
it puts pressure on the 2 buttons, eventually unlocking the phone.
cheers
Richard.
Yeah, get another locking program, like ThrottleLock or S2U2.

[Q] Making touch keys less touchy/easier unlock

Annoying Touch buttons
I think that the most DHD users have the same problem, touching the buttons at the bottom if you really dont want to.
So my question is if it would be possible to change the "Home" or the "Menu" button (pushing long) from "last used apps" to "turn on/off the touch keys???
that would be awsome
thx Dr.Pepper
Never been an issue for me, although i was anticipating problems with no hardware buttons its been fine...

Can't help but say, "you're holding it wrong!"
Seriously though I've never encountered this problem on either this phone or my N1 which has a smaller screen.
How exactly are you managing to press the buttons by mistake?
Regards.
iam the only one who has the problem that he accidently hits a touch key while using the phone or playing a game? every little contact triggers the keys. i.e. if i use the thumb to type a message, holding the phone in the right hand, i sometimes trigger the search key.
my idea is to make it harder to trigger these keys. as they are part of the touchscreen, it sould be possible to do anything that can be done with the touch sreen. my ideas:
1. double-touch; tapping the key 2 times (like a double-klick) triggers it once
2. sweep; i.e. you touch the home-button and sweep out of it, then release. can be even harder with sweeping out and back in.
3. circle-touch; making a little circle over the button triggers it.
other ideas welcome.
---------------------------------
2nd problem: easier unlocking;
i feel it sometimes tricky to unlock the pone, wich is done by pressing the powerbutton at the top of the phone and sweeping on the bottom of the screen. the phone is'nt very small (or i have small hands). if iam holding the phone at the bottom, i can nearly reach the whole touch area with my thumb, but to unlock, i need to use my 2nd hand or to juggle the phone so i can reach the power button with the right hand. with the G1, which had a menu button at the bottom, it was just double-pressing that button and the phone was unlocked. iam looking for a similar easy way to do it.
its just annoying to take the phone out of the pocket and use both handy or juggle around to unlock it...
i dont know it it wastes additional energy to have the touchscreen active, so it can be used to unlock the phone. so my ideas:
1. use the touchscreen to unlock; i.e. draw a pattern, press the bottom key in some order (home, back, menu to unlock)
2.1 use the volume keys. if the screen is disabled, they are used to change the audio volume (or is that only the case, if music is playing?) When holding the phone at the bottom with the right hand, the volume-down hey is easily reachable. so you can do volume-down (which activates the screen) and then slide on the screen like you would do if you have pressed the power button. pressing volume-down with deactivated screen does not change the volume, but pressing it twice does (i.e. 1st press unlocks the screen and 2nd press takes volume down).
2.2 press vol-up and vol-down at the same time to unlock the phone. if i do that the phone vibrates sometimes, no idea why.
3. use acceleromater (or a other sensor?) to unlock, i.e. shaking the phone in a special way (i.e. a circle), activates the screen, so you can unlock it by sliding on it. also full unlock by shaking a phone could be possible (also known as kung-fu-unlock )
other ideas also welcome.
Proximity sensor for unlock when taking it out of the pocket :-D. I have the same problem as you so a 'fix' would be nice
yeah, you take the phone out of the pocket and it unlocks and says "hello raw, how you are doing?".
but that would be nice. question is if constantly checking the prox sensor would drain the battery much. it needs to be checked every 3 seconds or so.

Screen Lock & Freeze w/ Camera+Left

In trying to set up controls for a game, I found a very unhappy button combination. If the camera button is fully depressed while holding the left key on the hardware keyboard, the screen will lock and usually freeze the phone. Another user who tried to replicate this for me got an unresponsive camera app that required a reboot.
What are other users' mileage here? Anybody have any ideas on a workaround, or is this probably just a hardware quirk?
i tried every diff combination of left and the camera button, and did not have the same experience. i do know that if your in the camera app, and press power, it does lock the phone, but i think it is supposed to. pressing the power button a second time unfreezes it. imma do more research. i read something about this once on ppcg.
i found this.may or may not be the same thing for your friends.
"hey folks For those of you experiencing a lock-up while in camera mode, I thought it happened to me the other day as well, turns out its not a bug its user error. If you try to turn off the screen while in camera/video mode by hitting the screen lock button you are locking the camera mode, which mean you are making it so that the phone does not accept any inputs aside from unlocking by hitting the power/ screen unlock button again. This "lock mode" is indicated by lock icon appearing in the top corner of the screen. The reason for this screen unlock button again. This "lock mode" is indicated by lock icon appearing in the top corner of the screen. The reason for this mode is actually good, if you are filming something important you don't a finger slip hitting the back/home buttons and ruining your video, so you can lock it and not worry about it. Of course this means if you don't know about the feature and you activate it, instant freak out. But, now you know mode is actually good, if you are filming something important you don't a finger slip hitting the back/home buttons and ruining your mode is actually good, if you are filming something important you don't a finger slip hitting the back/home buttons and ruining your video, so you can lock it and not worry about it. That may have something to do with it, but is not the problem I am having. When I am somewhere outside of the camera app (homescreen or game, for example) if I hold the left arrow key and fully depress the camera button, the screen will turn off and make the lock sound. Usually I can unlock it with the power button or this combinaton again, but it will occasionally freeze and refuse to accept input from the touchscreen or capacitive buttons.
(If it's at all helpful, I was trying to set up the camera button as the R shoulder button in SNESdroid.)
It could be that the phone is getting confused and thinks I'm trying to lock the camera app, but since I'm not in the app it locks the entire phone.
I just did it while reading your post lol I can confirm it freaks out lol

*bug*? Bypass the fingerprint + lock screen with camera app

I'm facing with a serious bug (or maybe wrong configuration?). I activate the option to quickly launch the camera app by double tapping the home button.
So when im in my lock screen, which normally would requires my finger or pin to enter, when i double tap the home button, it takes me to the camera and I found out that I can simple press Back button and it will take me to the home screen (NOT the lock screen).
I've also noticed that even with camera double tap turn off, I can also double tap the HOME button to get into the phone.
Is there anyone else have this issue?
P/s: I've also tried changing my finger while pressing double tap to make sure, it still bypasses the security. (and no it's not a clone phone, It's straight from AT&T). Stock Firmware
Should I try reflashing the stock?
Mine goes back to the lock screen perfectly

Dude by the time you double click home button it recognizes ur fingerprint. For checking u can tell someone else (whos fingerprint is not registered ) to double click it would not bypass.

I seriously doubt that this is the problem. I have fingerprint unlock set on my phone and it works properly going back to the lock screen when backing out of the camera.
Unless of course the OP is holding the button for a long time.

I thought I had the issue too. Then I double tapped with a finger I ain't registered to unlock the phone and it stopped. Probably just resting his registered finger too long on the home button
