Yes... However, Google merged a commit which broke RRO in source with 7.1.1. It's currently broken for any 7.1.1 ROM. Don't use it to theme Android System or SystemUI. Anything framework related will cause a boot loop. IIRC, someone involved with substratum development commented on the change and a Google engineer replied back saying it was already fixed internally and they would push an update soon. Might come with a quick 7.1.2 follow up, maybe the January security update, or maybe later. We'll just have to wait and see.
That's legacy though, ROMs with OMS should be okay. Just know how to recover if you boot loop.

Also you can try this if you can use twrp:
- Mount system partition
- Go to: advanced, file manager
- System/overlay, select it with the right bottom icon, delete and swipe to confirm
- Reboot

Don't blame the theme, it didn't do anything on its own. Substratum gives a very clear warning about bootloops with stock 7.1.1 that you willingly chose to disregard.

Swift Dark is 7.1.1 compatible. I am using it on stock Nexus 6P with no problems. She probably didn't choose the correct Android build from the drop down menu when installing the theme.

That may be but Substratum doesn't officially support stock 7.1.1 at this time, and blaming a theme for 'killing my 6p' isn't cool.

Substratum does warn of potential bootloop problems but Swift Dark theme has a drop down menu to choose the correct Android version before installing. The dev of that theme does say you can disregard the Substratum warnings, which obviously wasn't wise in this case. But that theme won't screw up a 7.1.1 stock Nexus phone if it is installed correctly.
People also ignore the instructions that Substratum doesn't play well with CM based roms and complain when it screws up their phones. Most of the bad reviews in the Play Store are from people who didn't read the instructions first.

Kitkatify your PA ROM (Holo Blue Genocide) {Updated 16th April}

Holo Blue Genocide Mod is already popular and doesn't need much introduction. In brief, it makes your Kitkat based ROM more like Kitkat and less like ICS and Jellybean. It replaces all Blue (#33b5e5) colors with White (#ffffff).
This completes the Kitkat look and make your ROM look more aesthetic and unified in terms of colors.
Most of the devs don't really mod for PA based ROMs because Official PA team makes it a bit hard with heavy modification and follow different guidelines unlike CM or AOKP. Thus, we haven't seen any such mods so far.
@Gingerbread1611 has done it for PA 4.1beta2 but haven't really updated after that; I am taking this forward from now on and will try my best to keep it aligned with latest PA builds.
Much thanks to @Gingerbread1611, @EnricoD and Slimkat team for this.

There somehow is a holo icon in the quick settings area. When you click it the system completely crashes. Reboot won't fix that and the ROM gets unusable. Somehow my recovery also got corrupted by that and I wasn't able to reflash the ROM. I had to sideload it to get things going again.
So my advice is to not flash that mod while that error is not fixed...!

Just flashed and got the same system crash, but without clicking anything, just booted and the repeated crash started, i did flash the first link for official PA, however the zips name is Holo_Genocide_for_PA4.2b4_by_Aniket-XPJParadroid or something like that, maybe you uploaded the wrong zip there because it shouldnt say paradroid

Yeah the links are switched
Worked great until I noticed the halo button and clicked it out of excitement.
Rom because unusable and my recovery is corrupted so I can't flash pa and gapps again.
How do I fix this ?
Thanks in advance,

Now I flashed the Official version (which is in the link for Paradroid, and it booted fine, but google search started to crash over and over, the dark grey background was now a light grey background, very ugly and whe i opened the dialer it crashed and the phone screen went black, Im running PA 4.2 beta 4 with no custom kernels or modifications, i do not recommend to flash this zip, its very messed up :S

- XjParadroid version in about phone settings.
- When selecting an conversation in hangouts the background will still turn blue.
Not trying to be a whiner or anything just hoping to help out with overlooked things.

Working: Substratum theme engine and Theme for CM14.1 LineageOS

Tested working on MI5-Gemini running on CM14 LineageOS, Other CM-Based ROMs still to be tested.
NOTE: Admin kindly delete this thread or close it if it has already been discussed.
WARNING: Your device may end up in bootloop if you are not careful! Follow at your own risk! BACKUP EVERYTHING BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE...
Now, unto the best part!
Tired of the whites? Try going dark! We all know CM Theme engine has been missing on the latest CM 14.1 builds. And we all know that substratum causes bootloops in cm 14.1 based ROMs. I have found a workaround for this problem through a substratum theme provided at the playstore (hurray to the developers!)
How to make it work (Root Access Required)
1. Download substratum app at the playstore
2. Install this paid theme (also at the play store)
(Swift Black Substratum Theme *compatible with Nougat 7.1.1)
3. Open substratum and select Swift Black Substratum Theme
4. Allow root access
5. Choose android version 7_1_1or 7_1_1_OMS
Patch everything Except Android system!
(Device may end up in bootloop if you do so... I havent tested compatibility with this yet so if you are not sure, un-check it! (Refer to attached pic in post)
EDIT: if you choose 7_1_OMS setting it will work fine without bootloops even after patching Android System provided, that the thene supports this option. (thank you @etoy)
6. Restart device.... Enjoy!
Credits to all the developers of Substratum and theme makers!
and to Cyanogen/LineageOS
*This is my first XDA thread ever so please forgive me if i cant post some links and pics ATM(due to post requirements) but im very much obliged to answer your questions)
Confirmed working settings for LineageOS in substratum
*Android 7_1
*Patch everything except android System
*Theme is lost after every LineageOS OTA update or Version update.
*If this happens just re-patch substratum all over again...
*Haven't tested Non 7.1.1 compatible themes, only this one... If other themes worked for you, then let me know so i can check out too...
UPDATE:
Using an alternate rooting technique for the latest LineageOS Build, I got it up and running again!
*Works with 7_1_OMS setting

Other working themes (Free on Playstore)
PixelUI(fully compatible with 7.1.1 LineageOS)
Galaxy Evolution (fully compatible with 7.1.1 LineageOS)
SIX Theme(Works but dont patch "Android System")
Lemme know if any other themes worked for you so we can add it on the list!
The only substratum stuff I want for LineageOS is the font changer!
I also tested some others Substratum themes ... will add functional later.
I do hope they will be fully compatible with LineageOS soon as CM Theme manager seems to be dead on CM14.1 due to a different RR implementation.

1. You don't need to install that paid theme. I'm using Pixel UI Substratum theme just fine. Those instructions are misleading. One might think he need to put money in that theme developer's pocket as a necessary step to use Substratum.
2. Dark theme is cool and less painful for your eyes. And that's about it. Less battery drain? Only on AMOLED display. Our MI5 is LCD so the leds will produce light. On black, on gray or on white. No difference. And even on AMOLED displays, a dark theme will save battery only on true black (#000000). Anything else means led "on" and therefore power consumption.

can anyone confirm that it's working on the LG V20?

I'm new to OP. Any guidance on Substratum?

I've just come from Dirty Unicorns and Pure Nexus on a 6P, and I've loved substratum for theming my phone. But... OOS would be legacy, I understand. Has anyone tried Subs on OP5, any recommendations? I've also seen a Magisk module for making legacy systemless. Anyone tried it? I don't feel like boot looping my new phone!
Also if I'm just rooted, can I install themes like swift black?
Don't use Substratum on OOS, rooted or not, I tried it and ended up having to restore the backup I'd made after it caused all sorts of complications, my advice? Wait for the custom roms to start appearing.

Thank you for saving me all sorts of trouble.
I tried "Navigate" to configure the navbar. Works without issues. But i wouldn't apply system wide themes. Like @djsubterrain said.
With root you can apply themes system wide that support OOS (I think only swift dark and black right now)
I did and it's working fine, full black apps and system.
If you're paranoid then you can just theme apps and use built in themer to make system black or white.
Does anyone tried ozone substratum?
im rooted and with sustratum working fine, im using swift black and inversion themes.

Yeah... I was always able to theme via substratum on all of my rooted devices, including oneplus 3 on stock.
The thing is, you generally, (lie 99% of the time) should not theme system ui or android system as that almost always results in a bootloop.
This is with the exclusion of themes specifically designed for oxygen os like k clock and swift dark

I use it for centered clock, QS Tiles 4 icons and Clear All (tasks) button on the left.
No problem so far.
I'm using Valerie as the main theme, and Big Blu to fill in things that Valerie doesn't do.
Also, Ozone for center clock and QS 5.
Fontio works with a .ttf file (or choose one of the provided fonts) if you use the flashable zip option - in the settings there's a place to create a restore zip, so do that first in case. Both files will be put on your internal memory in a Fontio folder.
edit: I forgot that the power menu doesn't work with this setup, so I made my own with Tasker/GMD.

Stock has the same substratum support as freedom Os... It's the legacy layers theming, so if you root stock, it will work the same way. Just install the substratum app from the store and try out. ?

Substratum & Oreo

I flashed Swift Dark theme for OOS using both root and rootless method via Andromeda and using either method the overlays seemed to create a very perceptible performance hit in certain apps which is something I never noticed on pre Oreo versions of Android. I'm curious what kind of experience other people have had flashing Substratum on the OOS Oreo builds.
First, there's no talk about "flashing" here.. You don't need to flash nothing... Then, i'm using swift dark and some other themes with open beta and they're working perfectly like they work in nexus oreo... No performance lag or hit.. I'm rooted with magisk

Ok I installed the overlays. After I did there was scrolling stutter in Play Store and Google App that wasn't there before. I didn't notice it in other themed apps. I'm using Magisk as well. Maybe the custom kernel I'm using has something to do with it. Are you using the stock kernel?

Yes I chose Oxygen Oreo. I didn't try to remove the overlays and then reinstall them. I rebooted after applying the overlays and noticed the problem. Removing the overlays didn't fix it either--i had to dirty flash the ROM to get everything working right again. There was a popup warning when I opened Substratum suggesting that the rootless method would work better in Oreo. I bought the Andromeda app and applied the overlays the new way but I didn't notice any difference. I had the same scroll stuttering in the same apps. I guess it could be related to the fact that I'm using a custom kernel.

I might in the future. For now I don't want to screw around with it again.

substratum and OP6t

Has anyone tried this yet ? Since we don't have a fully working TWRP I don't want to risk a bootloop just yet!

Did you reboot after you applied the theme? Pie took away OMS support so Substratum doesn't theme on-the-fly anymore so you probably have to reboot for the changes to take effect.

No not supported on pie without root. Google made some changes to pie that purposely killed Andromeda.

when i tried to apply substratum with djdarknjghts Sprite, i rebooted to apply the theme. when i rebooted, i was forced to wipe the phone to get it to boot. i had another member say you have to set the boot slot etc, but if you dont mind, can you tell me precisely what your steps to apply were?
i miss my theme, but if i can avoid another full wipe for nothing, that is ideal. lol.
im on OOS 9.0.5 rooted with magisk 17.3 . Thank you!
EDIT:

Presume I haven't been flashing and theming android devices since a855 (d1) what are your steps?
my steps were:
1) bl unlock
2) root with Magisk 17.3 (beta)
3) install substratum
4) install Sprite
5) Build and apply theme.
6) Reboot
Then i ended up having to wipe the device and could not boot.
What am i missing? lol
edit 2: yeah, gotta use a theme compatible with OOS. lol.

The theme you are installing is not oos compatible, try themes like Swift Dark/Black/White, PitchBlack, Flux themes etc which are OOS compatible :good: Other themes may require full OMS support which is not present on OOS so you would end up bootloop.

yeah, that was my experience. i checked in the devs telegram and its not compatible with OOS as he doesn't own a OP device. if i were wealthy, id straight buy him one bc his themes are that amazing and thorough. i havent seen another one that themes status bar icons which is awesome.
i bought PitchBlack a while back, so i guess i will just live without statusbar icon colors for now.....
i actually like stock OOS more than i ever thought i would have. i wish they would make a status bar background and icon color picker just like the theme color picker, but with a simple RGB color picker like old school android apps had, but its probably just a pipe dream. lol. that and long press button functions are all im missing to complete my android experience on One Plus.
Good news, the wait just got shorter.

lol. the theme dev whose work i wanted to work on OOS is getting a OP6T...so the wait to Sprite on OOS is shorter.
maybe i should want to win the lottery or land a decent paying job in tech if my wishes are coming true. lol.
