Samsung galaxy tab a 10.1 2016 - Disable capacitive buttons - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

Hi everybody, I recently got a 2016 Tab A 10.1 and I was wondering if there is any way I can disable the capacitive buttons and replace them with on-screen buttons as I press them very often by accident when I'm using the tablet in landscape mode and it's really annoying.
I haven't rooted it yet but I don't mind to do so if needed.

Hi buddy, I had the same problem specially when playing Asphalt 8 and pressing by accident the recent app button then I get kicked form the race...
There is a way to deactivate the buttons temporally.
Go to settings then to lockscreen and then to advanced security and check pin apps (or something similar) it will give you the ability to lock the back and recent apps and also home button when you want to so pressing them will result in nothing, the only way to disable it is to press both back and recent apps together at the same time.
It's not a perfect solution but it's pretty handy and it suits me well, I don't feel the need to root and disable capacitive buttons.
Voilà https://www.cnet.com/how-to/ho-to-pin-apps-in-android-5-lollipop/
You'll be able to do this, so you can get ride of capacitive buttons when you need to.

Thank you very much for your solution sifou although I agree with you that it's not a perfect one.
Do you have any idea if there is any custom rom allowing such a thing?
Regards

Well, I am not aware of any custom rom that has this option included ,the only rom I know exist here over XDA is a light rom (not very custom just a stock rom without some stuff) made by a member for personal use , he got rid of bloat ware and made it Xposed or something .
As for capacitive buttons, of course you can turn them off easly with root, I believe there are apps that deactivate them and replace it with softkeys just like all other android phones.

Hi, my solution was to install these two apps (free and no root needed) to disable anoying physical buttons and enable virtual ones "à la nexus"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.irishin.buttonsremapper
no action for recent apps and back buttons

Hi,
in my opinion the best solution is to root your device. I've tested many apps, but my best solution was to root and install XPosed Framework with GravityBox for Marshmallow
In Gravitybox you can disable hardware-/ and enable on-screen buttons.
Here are my working steps from the stock to the end:
=================================
Install Recovery (TWRP)
=================================
- Activate Developer Options
- OEM Unlock
- USB Debugging on
- Power Off your device
- Go into Download Mode
- Start Odin and install TWRP
- Restart or quit Download Mode: ''VOL DOWN'' + ''HOME'' + ''Power''
- Start Recovery: ''VOL UP'' + ''HOME'' + ''Power''
=================================
Install Custom Rom
=================================
- Start TWRP
- Format Data
- Install Ultra Lean Custom ROM
Then install in order:
- "Super SU"
- ''no-verity-no-encrypt_ashyx.zip'' (disables encryption)
- ''adoptable_storage_enabler_ashyx.zip'' (enables adoptable storage; if you need)
- ''xposed-v86.1-sdk23-arm-custom-build-by-wanam-20160904'' (XPosed Framework)
- Restart to system
=================================
In System
=================================
- Install "XposedInstaller_3.1.1.apk"
- Choose GravityBox (MM) to install
- Restart
- Activate the on-screen buttons
- Restart
- et voila

This is a fine answer for the question ! I really like detailed information, it make you avoid stupid questions.
Well I have a question for you if you don't mind, not about capacitive buttons because I am somewhat a fan of this samsung implementation, I would like to know more about adoptable storage like what is your configuration ,the type of SD card you're using and the issues you're having with adoptable storage, I wanted to instal it on my device but I hate buggy stuff, I heard that Link2SD app is somewhat safer and it works almost the same way, add to that it gives the ability to have two seperate partitions on the SD card so apps are installed on a partition and other media files can be stored on the other partition and are accessible from other devices . What do you think ?

Thank you very much for the detailed guide kanzler, much appreciated.
I followed all the steps but I can't find in the GravityBox how I can activate the on-screen buttons and how to disable the capacitive ones.
Can you please help a bit?

Hi, thx for kudos
adoptable storage works very well. The only bad thing is, if you're using an alternate launcher (in my case Nova Launcher). After a reboot, the launcher starts a little bit faster than the SD card. This means, apps which are installed on sd-card, aren't accessible from your homescreen (you can see the icons, but they are grayed out), but works fine in app drawer.....(Last update of Nova Launcher has fixed that problem).
Also I've tested Link2SD too, works perfectly, but since then there is an official possibility in Android (Marschmallow) to expand the internal storage, so I want to use this function.
Another thing is, in android settings -> overview of storage, there isn't one drive rather two. 1x internal and 1x sd card.

}
If you install an app, there is no possibility to select the drive where to install. But most apps are developed to use the adoptable (especially games).
If an app installed to internal memory, then sometimes there is the possibility to move apps.
If you connect your tablet to pc, there is only one drive. But if you copy files, these will be stored on the sd card.
My SD Card: Samsung MicroSDXC 128GB EVO Plus UHS-I Class 10
With this configuration, I'm using my tablet since a few weeks and got no trouble until now
Last but not least: Sorry for my really bad english

Damn buddy that's a really good answer ! Looks like I may follow your guide too and I was going to purchase the same exact SD card you're using right now, the only bummer I had with this tablet is the limited storage but after this modification, I think it will be a complete package!
By the way you're English is perfectly understandable, none of us is a native speaker ?
Just one thing I wanted to know, my device isn't rooted yet, do I have to wipe or factory reset in order to get adoptable storage ? I'd like to keep my data as is so I am afraid that I'll have to reset my tab.
Thanks again for all the efforts ?

This worked perfectly. Thanks so much for the post.

INSTALLATION GUIDE
1) START HERE IF YOU JUST BOUGHT THE PHONE:
- Download and install usb drivers for your phone: http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Ap...&SC=EMEA_27
- Flash a recent bin (I suggest the 39 'cause it has an updated baseband); you can download it from here: http://tinyurl.com/34tq4yp; somone else suggests the 09... you can download it from here: http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/OS...amp;SC=EMEA_17)
- Afer following the instructions you'll have an up to date bin.
2) START HERE IF YOU'VE GOT AN UPDATED ROM BUT WITHOUT MALEZ RECOVERY
- It's time to install the malez recovery
- If you didn't, install your USB drivers now...: http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Ap...&SC=EMEA_27
- Download the malez recovery 0.5.4: http://www.multiupload.com/402AVV1SI9
- unzip the archive and click install-recevery-windows.bat while your phone is ON
- Your phone will reboot several times during this process
3) START HERE IF YOU'VE GOT AN UPDATED ROM AND THE MALEZ RECOVERY
- Almost done...
- Download ROM LS 2.1 (you'll find the links below)
- Connect your phone to the computer, activate the date-exchange by usb (once you've plugged in your phone a notification will appear, tap it)
- Copy the downloaded file in the main directory of your SD Card (Without extracting it) [Please Note: You've to copy this file in the MAIN DIRECTORY not in a sub-folder]
- Reboot your phone in recovery mode (If you did pass trought 'point 2', you'll find, in the malez recovery's pack, the file "reboot to recovery.bat" doubleclick it with your phone plugged in by usb, if you didn't, well, its better to download it from the point 2 or from this link if you're to lazy to scroll the page up: http://www.multiupload.com/402AVV1SI9 .
- Once you're on recovery's main screen you'll have to move through its menu by Volume UP/Volume Down buttons
- Go to "Flash/Test menu" and press the MENU button (the last touch button of your acer liquid, the one with three stripes)
- Press Menu once more
- Go to SDCARD:LS2.1 and press MENU
- press HOME (bottom left) and wait for the process to end
- Once this installation ends press BACK (the "<" button) to go back to the main menu, then press MENU to reboot your phone.
- If you want to delete added aps (the ones in /data) and to have a clean ROM it's the moment to do a "Wipe Data Factory", obviously the widgets of the removed apps won't work and you'll have to delete them from your home. I suggest to keep them cause they're very useful.
4) START HERE IF YOU ALREADY INSTALLED THE ROM LS
- Congratulations!
- The first boot will last a bit more than the usual, don't worry.
- Once you're phone is on, select your language and follow the setting wizard
- Once the wizard finised go to the apps menu and open LSsettings
- Here you can set the touchscreen sensitivity and many other things
- If you'd like to install the theme pack or an OC kernel (if you don't know what an oc kernel is don't install it, you don't need to); you'll find links below; every pack has got a README file explaining how to install it
- Tip: select HTC_IME keyboard by holding a textbox
- Once you've set the ROM reboot your phone.
- Now The ROM LS is installed and ready to use! Have Fun!
NOTES
- Once you've turned on your phone, tap the taskmanager widget to end every app you dont need
- Don't WIPE your phone after the installation or you'll lose every added app. If you accidently wipe it, simply re-flash this ROM.
- App + Data on SD may causes really problems to the system. Please, choose app on SD only
IF YOU NEED MORE INFORMATION, SIMPLY ASK HERE! WE'LL BE HAPPY TO HELP YOU!

Don't be sorry for your English, at least you try and we understand you just fine
I am using this ROM and have been since the release and it's as stable as they get. I recommend it my friend!
It does have Camera app.. was that your question?
hi Lain & Suxem this rom is really fast and stable,
there is a way to enable compcache in this rom at boot ?? or tiny swap??
thanks and really appreciate your hard work!!!
for me any overclock kernel broke compcache!!!!!!!!!!!
can someone help me?
I like this ROM...!!!!
thx suxem..
Sorry, double post..
my internet is slow..
the best work i've seen for an android phone !
themes apps overclocking.... everything sounds perfect
the only problem i am having is with launcher pro ! i have the app for the plus version and i cant install it with astro or any other file manager !
any solution for this
you use the unlock launcher pro plus from the preferences
if your trying to use an older version that you downloaded then not much i can do to help with that
i tried and its asking for a paypal account !!!!
yes
you understand that launcher pro plus is something you have paid for??
meaning that if you didnt pay for it you wont be able to unlock it?
that is not a bug and if your trying to get the pro version for free - that is why the app maker changed the way the pro version works and is no longer a seperate apk
so you cant steal pro anymore
pay for it or stop whining - its not a bug
i already paid for the app and i have a backup of the paid apk... thats why i want to use it and not pay for it again ... hope u can understand that
thanks for your work again..... but u have to work on your people skills
- App + Data on SD may causes really problems to the system. Please, choose app on SD only
how cn I use app on sd only?pls tellthanks
thanks man. i contacted the developer and he fix my account issue
still i think this is the best and most complete work for an android phone
yaseramin: open the LS program in the menu. choose APP2SD
Does the LS2.1 support Chinese language???
Hiya... I'm just wondering if this rom will support chinese language overall n is my current rom (Acer_LiquidE_1.100.09_AAP_GEN2) compatible to this? Beside, will it be possible to return to the stock rom afterward?
Much appreciate for your effort on this LS2.1 and looking forward for your advise, thx~

[Guide] A complete MiniCM9-3.0.4 how-to

Hi guys
This post is essentially going to be an aggregation of info regarding MiniCM9, bringing together in one place all the random bits and pieces I found to get things working at their best. I originally started writing this for myself (to keep track of things when updating/reinstalling) but as I've responded to questions here and there I thought it might be good to have one place to link to, rather than trying to find my previous posts.
MiniCM9 basic setup
SD card:
Create an ext4 swap partition from CWM; (at least 128M, I recommend 256M+)
How to get a swap partition of any size OR configure swap separately from an sd-ext partition:
Follow this basic tutorial
If you just want to adjust the size of your swap partition and/or sd-ext partition, it's not necessary to completely erase your SD card/remove all partitions and start from scratch
You can work with the Resize/Move options and still get what you want.
System setup:
Flash minicm9 and gapps as normal (in the installer, choose only apps you use; would not recommend Apollo)
Boot up your system, grab your favourite root browser from Google Play, and remove remaining unwanted applications and services (e.g. for me, Google Talk, FM radio, etc.) by deleting them from system/app.
Do not 'install a2sd' via console
System configuration:
Set up your autobrightness settings like this
Test your pulse notification light. If it stops flashing after a couple of seconds, go to system/lib/hw via your root file manager and delete/rename lights.shakira.so. Once you reboot, your notification light should work normally.
Disable Google's location service unless you need it as it may drain battery (GPS is okay)
Min CPU: 320MHz (important!); Max CPU: whatever you feel like (provided your phone can handle it)
Governor: SMARTASSV2
No Undervolt
Disable zRam
Do not enable 'Allow purging of assets'
Do not enable Kernel samepage merging
Surface dithering: Yes
16bit transparency: No
Disable boot animation: No
NB: minicm9 settings will not pick up on your swap partition (claiming swap is disabled). Open terminal emulator and type in 'free' to see your available memory, it should correctly show the size of your swap partition.
Further performance tweaks:
Do NOT use Supercharger.
Move large apps that are not usually running to SD (e.g. Opera) via Settings»Apps»Move to SD. If this option is greyed out, follow this guide to move them anyway (NB: the command for the ICS platform is set-install-location rather than setInstallLocation). You do not need App2SD.
Optimise your SD card's read ahead cache (significantly increases read/write speeds on higher end SD cards). There are two ways to do this; by manually creating a script (recommended) or by installing a third party application.
To do it via application, install SD-Booster and a SD card speed test of your choice. Adjust the cache until you get an optimal read/write speed (for me, this is at 4096KB) – more is not always better. You can uninstall the speed tester once you're done
To manually set your SD read ahead cache on boot, go to this thread and follow the instructions for Version 1. Replace 128 with the optimal value for your SD card (determined as above).
Set swappiness:
You can customise your swappiness by creating/adding the following to userinit.sh in data/local/
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
#Swap
swapon dev/block/mmcblk0p3
echo [COLOR="Red"]50[/COLOR] > /proc/sys/vm/swappiness
Red value ranges from 0 (don't swap unless you run out of memory) to 100 (swap from the get go). Feel free to experiment; in my experience performance is most stable around 50. Don't forget to set permissions (to rwxr-xr-x).
You should now have a beautifully smooth, stable miniCM9 on Trebuchet (battery life should be good). Stock browser should run fine thanks to swap, apps will stay in memory and load quickly. Make sure to free up apps via home button » swipe if you no longer need them, especially if running on less swap memory.
How do I get ... working? / Extras
Set custom lock screen icons:
After selecting your application, tap on the icon to get a menu allowing you to choose from your gallery or system (white lock screen-styled icons)
Enable lock screen rotation:
Follow this guide to patch your framework-res.apk to allow lock screen rotation, or replace yours with the one attached (but first, make sure you are using the same version of miniCM9! the apk is for 3.0.4). In either case, backing up is a good idea, folks
framework-res.apk for miniCM9-3.0.4
Fix Japanese font rendering on ICS:
Probably not something that concerns most people; but if you are using Japanese on your android, you will have noticed that by default, Chinese versions of unicode unified ideograms are rendered (which can be less than optimal at times). To get proper Japanese text output across applications, you will have to install the Japanese Droid font (DroidSansJapanese) and insert a reference to it in your font fallback .xml.
To make your life easier, I have included the files in a zip for your perusal:
Extract the files
Copy DroidSansJapanese.ttf to system/fonts
Replace your fallback_fonts.xml in system/etc with the one provided
Japanese font files for ICS
Dark Holo themed apps:
If you like the dark Holo ICS theme, and want your applications to suit the rest of your system, you can find various inverted google apps for ICS-based roms around the web. I've included the ones I use and work well on miniCM9 on our X8 here for convenience.
Extract the files
Replace your apps in system/app with the ones included
Reboot & enjoy a true ICS UI
Dark Holo ICS themed apps for miniCM9
Get voice input working on miniCM9:
If you've ever used voice input features, you will have noticed these (while present) fail to work after installing the rom. So will any type of android-based voice recognition. To get basic voice functionality working (sadly not ICS flavoured) do the following:
in system/app delete your voice search apk
reboot your system
now find Google Voice Search 2.1.4 (for Android 2.2+) on Google Play and install it.
voice search and recognition should now work as it did on older roms.
To get voice typing working you will have to replace your input method (or install it as an additional IME to switch to when you want to use voice typing).
install IceCream Sandwich-ICS Keyboard by VLLWP from Google Play (for Android 1.6+). DO NOT UPDATE this, as its Jelly Bean version or other ICS keyboards will not work with voice typing.
enable and select it as an input type and hit the microphone key. Confirm the prompt, and you should be able to use basic android speech recognition in any text form you like.
Lightweight Jelly Bean keyboard:
More of a recommendation, but what it says on the tin;
get this app from Google Play (keep in mind like stock keyboard it won't work with voice input, so you might want to run it in addition to the aforementioned) and install it -- once you're all set you can now safely remove LatinIME.apk from your system/app
you save memory (both in usage footprint and SD card space) and get a fully featured Jelly Bean keyboard with functional word prediction in exchange, which is a fair trade, no?

... and that is all I can think of right now. May update this thread as things change
Nice! I want to ask you something. Is the way to check if swap work? I am not sure
1. Create partizion (256 mb)
2. Create file userinit.sh and added it into sdcard
3. Copy and paste it into data/local/
4. Set permission
5. Reboot
Correct?
Does it improve battery saving or performances ???
Thank u for ur efforts...
It really helps.
To the modslease make this thread sticky.

Swap should work as soon as you have a partition on current versions. The userinit is just if you want to set swappiness/specifics.
The way to check is going to terminal emulator and typing in 'free'. You should see your swap space listed.

Does what improve battery life/performance? Both are more than decent with the settings provided, if that's what you mean. I'll see about adding screenshots.

Have not extensively tested it with the latest build so it may have been fixed since, but last I tried it caused performance/stability issues for me aside from the battery drain.

Yes, using gparted (see linked tutorial) you can resize your existing partition.
did any1 faced with lag on calls? ei: when i'm reciving call, the screen is black for 2-5secs, and after lights on. i dont have any idea whats the problem, maybe can it be the low cpu freq?

Not if you have a partition, no.
nice broo..!! About swap,I must download swaper2 from market ??? or use from system rom only ???
The first post says it all.
You don't need anything except the rom (+ kernel) itself.
The apps on my phone often take 2-5 seconds to start. I thought it is because some of them are on the ext4 partition, but even the settings app does the same, and it is really annoying. When I click on an app, the ICS gradient dark background is shown for some seconds, then it is loaded. Is there a solution for this? Or is MiniCM9 just like that?
The first time you open apps might take a second to load (depending on your settings)
After that they should remain cached in normal use and open more or less instantly, without the empty screen.

S-Health
As you probably know... In order to setup S-Health, you need to have Knox... (during S-Health's initial setup only... then you can remove Knox) Since the ROM comes without Knox, there is no chance to setup S-Health. But don't worry... Use these 2 flashable files:
- Knox Installer (Includes S-Health) -> Flash it... then wipe S-Health's data and run S-Health... walk thru the setup... and Done... S-Health is ready!
- Knox Remover -> Then flash the Knox Remover in order to remove Knox (again) and voila... No Knox and S-Health still fully operational.
*Note: Remember that you CAN'T update S-Health... so... avoid Google Play S-Health Updates.

Well, the rom was always tested by wiping full internal data... so that's basically my recommendation. (the 1st time only... later on you can simply dirty flash the rom) But you can try without wiping data...

i did probably fried my internal memory , i thought so at first , after taking nandroid backup , i have copied this rom to phone memory and , i dirty flashed over Hydra 1.2 rom , flashing went successful without any issue , after flashing , i have rebooted the device, alarming device stood in the boot logo for nearly 9 mins , then i force rebooted ............ Device rebooted and shows a screen with "encryption falil kinda error"it was showing me to wipe the device......
came back to TWRP F**** my phone memory has been wiped and am unable to mount data....now again am starting from scratch
FYI all Guys :- just to make sure that u have ur nandroid backup , make sure to use the External SD card as the backup storage ...
Also mates , Fresh installation by wiping data partition is a must ... ( you will lose all data in your Phone internal memory )
Cool nice to see you here dude
Used your Rom on my s7e and n4 loved them
Look forward to flashing this as soon as i get @home!!!

[ROOT] Remap Bixby Button with simple, double and long press

The ultimate solution for assigning an action or application to the Bixby button
I found a trick to assign the Bixby button to an action, application and more... Support a single click, double-click and hold (also works the screen off)
Here are the functions you can assign to the Bixby button
Navigates: back, home, recent apps...
Controls: sleep/wake up, show power menu, shutdown, reboot, expand notifications panel...
Rotation control.
Media controls: play/pause, next, previous, stop...
Fast scroll: scroll to top/ bottom.
Edit: copy, paste...
Universal copy, one tap copy text every where.
Settings: auto brightness, rotation, wifi, mobile data...
Start app/shortcut/activity, finish activity, previous app/next app, kill app...
Freezer: freeze/thraw app.
Input gesture, key event, text...
Shortcut panel, app drawer, freezer drawer, side bar...
Floating widget.
Swipe adjust: swipe on the edge to adjust brightness, screen filter, volume...
Gesture pointer, extends your finger.
Notification, speech, toast.
Screen filter, torch.
Conditional: if screen on, keyguard on, wifi connected/disconnected, battery level, time period, wifi connected to, app focused...
Multi action, saved multi action.

Which carrier model do you have and on what firmware version? I have heard there are some issues with Xposed on perhaps the Sprint models? I have the Verizon S8+ and Xposed installed just fine for me.
I am using the AQGL sprint system file provided by sammobile and flashfire to install the zip. I haven't had the time to retest this, but was able to remap the bixby button with just a root explorer.
Sprint seems to be the last to get cool updates, so I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't work for some reason just on our phones.

There is a possibility to make it work, but you have to buy the Xposed edge pro app for that. After you have to program a condition that I put on video. I made the condition assuming you have a password to disguise the screen.

2. Download the SuperSU .tar file from the link above and place it in your C:\ODIN folder. DON'T extract this archive;
3. Download ADB from the link above and extract the contents of the archive to C:\ADB (create a new folder);
4. Make sure USB Debugging AND OEM Unlock are ENABLED in Settings --> Developer Options on your phone. If you don't know how to activate Developer Options, check this out. After you've enabled these, connect your USB cable from your phone to your PC.
Note: If the phone tells you an access request is being received from your PC's fingerprint, accept it.
6. Open ADB on your computer by going to a Command Prompt, and typing cd C:\ADB;
7. Type adb devices to make sure your phone has been detected by ADB, like so:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
8. In the Command Prompt, type adb reboot recovery and press enter to reboot your phone into Recovery Mode;
9. Once your phone has booted into Recovery Mode, select the Wipe data/factory reset, and then select Yes when it asks for confirmation:
(Note: THIS STEP IS MANDATORY. If you don't wipe your data, the encryption on your phone will remain and you will be unable to root your phone.)
10. After you've wiped your data, BOOT DIRECTLY INTO DOWNLOAD MODE FROM RECOVERY MODE. You can do this by holding down Volume Down + Home Key + Power Button WHILE STILL IN THE RECOVERY MENU.
Important Note: Ideally, you should still be in the recovery menu after doing a factory reset. Then do the instructions above to enter Download Mode. If you reboot AND THEN go to Download Mode, this method won't work, because your encryption will be put in place again and your phone will become unrootable. Please do the above steps with caution.
11. Hold the buttons down. If you did everything correctly, you should see a screen like this pop up:
12. Press the Volume Up button to proceed to the flashing section. You should see this screen:
13. Now, make sure that the USB cable is still connected to your phone. Open ODIN on your PC, and click on the AP button, then select the SuperSU archive that you downloaded. Make sure that your phone is detected, Odin has to say "Added!!" in the log to the right. If it doesn't say that, re-connect your USB cable to your phone, or switch the USB port on your PC. Then press Start to begin flashing SuperSU and rooting your phone:
14. After Odin has finished flashing your phone, it should say PASS! at the top left of the window, under it's name. Your phone will reboot automatically.
15. Once your phone has rebooted, you should be greeted by the usual setup screen that happens when you factory reset your device. Set up the settings as normal, and install SuperSU from the Play Store HERE once the phone is set up. (This is VERY important.)
16. After you've installed SuperSU, download Titanium Backup from the Play Store, and uninstall the system app "Knox" and everything with "Knox" in their name, and also uninstall "Device Security". They could mess with your boot and spam you with "Unauthorized Action" notification. You don't need them anyway -- once you're rooted, those two don't work anymore.
And that's it!
Your phone should be rooted now! I recommend installing Root Checker to see if you have done everything correctly. It should return this result if so:
Thanks for reading my tutorial! I hope it has helped you root your phone. If you did everything correctly, you should be rooted now. If you have soft-bricked your device and your phone is stuck on the Samsung boot logo, please download the included backup firmware and re-flash your phone, and do not attempt to root your phone again.
Hit the "Thanks!" button if my guide helped you!
Please leave any problems you might have in the comments, and don't be immature. I will not help people with a bad attitude. As I said, if you **** up, it's your problem and I am not responsible. But I will still try to help.

Recommendations (Optional):
I recommend the following root-only apps to enhance your rooted experience.
1. Titanium Backup - Must-have app for rooted users. Useful in debloating your phone, freezing apps (hiding them from app drawer and disabling them - even system apps), backing up apps and more.
2. FlashFire - Useful for completely backing up your phone, flashing your phone with ZIPs, restoring backups and more.
3. Link2SD - Useful for moving apps to the SD card or to the Internal Storage, and more.
4. Greenify - Greenify working in root mode is the best battery saving app there is. It hibernates the apps that you don't use so that you can get the most out of your battery.
5. ES File Manager PRO - The perfect file manager. It lets you back up your apps, has a root explorer function, can let you see hidden files, lets you create shortcuts to any file on your home screen, and much more. There is a free version too, but I strongly recommend the PRO version.
Note: You guys can leave root-only apps in the replies as well, I didn't include a full list of them, obviously, so you guys can help people finding the apps they need to enhance their newly unlocked root experience.
If you want me to send you a list of safe to uninstall system apps, PM me.
Quick extra tip: To disable the ugly white frames for icons in the TouchWiz Home launcher, go to Settings -> Display -> Icon Frames and choose Icons Only.

Revisions:
- Added extra step about Knox resulting from the feedback of a user.
- Removed system app section. Seems to be giving people boot issues.

Root again and check every step carefully.
After you've checked everything was done properly, ONLY UNINSTALL KNOX AND DEVICE SECURITY. Don't attempt to uninstall other system applications other than the ones listed in the list.
That's why you're getting "Unauthorized Action" warning. Because Knox is still in effect, and it's detected that you're using a rooted phone. Therefore it warns you. So uninstall it completely, and everything else with "Knox" in its name.
I'm going to add this to the guide so that this doesn't happen again.
NOTE: Also don't worry, once you have completely re-flashed your phone with default stock firmware, it's not rooted anymore and rebooting is safe. Rebooting while rooted is also perfectly safe, if you can do tutorial steps correctly and don't skip over any steps.

Don't try to uninstall system apps. I will remove that whole section - seems to be giving people a lot of trouble.

Well, don't remove OneDrive then. I have no idea what's causing this issue. I uninstalled all those apps in the list on my phone and it works just fine?
this did not work for me. After rooting the device I am stuck with SAMSUNG boot logo. I think I have android 9 might be the issue.
