Textra Emoji Grid Broken - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I've owned this device for about a month, and I've had this glitch ever since. Never seen it before on my G3 or any other device. I've tried other Textra emoji sets, and it doesn't change. Looks the same in landscape.
I haven't rooted this Edge or changed the dpi. Stock rom & kernel. Has anyone seen this and/or have any ideas how to fix it?

Using my G935P S7 Edge

You should be asking the creator of the app mate.

Maybe, but since I've only noticed this on my edge, not on my wife's S7 or on my previous LG G3, and all using the same Textra app, it seems to be devices specific. I've searched online and here on XDA. Not a thing I can find of it.
Using my G935P S7 Edge

No it's not device specific, since I use Textra and I don't have that issue on my S7 Edge. Although I have the dualsim version.

It's happened to me a few times. Although, I can't remember how I fixed it! I do remember the fix was simple, if that makes sense.
Choose another emoji style, also clear cache. If that doesn't work, backup all and then clear data. Hope those were it!

Thanks for the tip, but I did try clearing the cache a few times. I thought about editing the dpi, but one ap shouldn't need a full system change.
Oh, well. I can put a positive spin on this to say at least someone didn't answer 5 minutes after I posted the OP to say I was overlooking something easy that takes 3 clicks. Definitely a glitch.

Did you switch like I recommended?

Had this also after picking up my s7 edge the other day. I got it after changing my Display Scaling to "Condensed". All I did was downloaded the iOS emoji's, switched to that, and opened Textra back up and they displayed properly. Then went back and switched back to the Android ones and they were back to normal. Not had an issue since.

Yes and no. I had tried downloading the IOS and Twitter style add-ons. I guess I thought by downloading them, they would have been activated in Textra, but not so. When I did go into Settings and choose IOS, it did fix the problem for me. Thanks!

And this worked too. When I did go back to the system icons after switching to the IOS style, it fixed the grid for that set too. That's odd, but okay!
Thanks to both of you. Problem solved!

Can't touch bottom of screen

Well, I'm running the latest CM10.1 Nightly, and no other mods. For some reason, in some apps I can't touch things at the bottom of the screen. For instance, in Snapseed, I can't apply an edit, because it doesn't let me touch it. Also, in the messages app it takes forever to get the keyboard to come up. Does anyone else have this problem? Is it a CM10 thing? TIA!
So, I flashed the Google Official ROM, and still the problem persists. Going to fully unroot and see if it fixes itself.

ouch
Could I please get some opinions? This is getting very annoying. It only seems to happen in apps, because I can access the app drawer and docked apps fine. I flashed the stock ROM, and un-rooted but the problem is still here. Any help?
Go into developer options. There should be an option for Pointer Location. Turn that on, and scribble all over the area you're having touch problems with. See if it is even registering your touches.

while in that same area.. another option is z-device test. go to screen and menu key to perform sensitivity tests and such. if you dont have a menu key in the navbar... it will not work.
Okay, thanks for the tips guys. This is really weird. There's like, a barrier where I can't touch at the bottom of the screen. I took some screenshots to show you guys.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm really hoping this isn't a hardware problem.
For the record, I've flashed back to the stock image, unrooted, and locked my bootloader. The problem persists. Thanks!
Are you using any kind of screen protector? Just that I had some weird touch problems in the past which disappeared when I switched screen protector.

I found someone on another forum who had the same problem. He went with it being a hardware problem, and I recently sold my phone. Shoot.

Looks like a hardware problem :/
I figured this out and it's pretty weird. The height of the deadzone is exactly the same as the height of the nav. bar. Anyone got any ideas? Or has LG f***ed me over?

It would seem to be a software issue, where the launcher believes you are touching the nav bar so ignores input, that'd be my guess.
Try a different launcher maybe?
Another weird discovery. It seems that if I swipe over the dead-zone fast enough, it registers. That leads me to believe that it's a software problem, but after flashing stock ROM, un-rooting, and relocking I don't see how it could be. This is weird.

How to remove "Access your most frequently used apps..." message on the Apps Edge?

How to remove "Access your most frequently used apps..." message on the Apps Edge?
Ok, I've tried searching for advice, but this is proving exceptionally hard to find help for, as trying to search for anything about it uses such common words that I can't even find out if the matter has been brought up before!
I have a standard UK Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, bought from Carphone Warehouse and on EE network. I've no problems with it like that, and don't really plan on modifying it at all.
BUT whenever I swipe the edge screen, I get this 'helpful advise' show up.

Ok, it was useful for the first day I bought the phone, but I can't find any way to get rid of it now that I know what the Edge screen does!
And it really annoys me that it's there spoiling the sleek look of the screen.
I'm now using Nova Launcher, and hoped that would fix it, but it doesn't seem to have affected this matter at all.
Does anyone know if there's a box I can tick to remove the helpful text, or something else I can do?
Thanks!
Following this, was wondering the same thing

Hmm, that's interesting!
Maybe i'll try removing all mine and re-adding...
Ha.
That seems to have done the trick! Very odd!!
So I removed all the apps from the Edge panel.
Restarted the phone.
Added some apps that I'd downloaded, like WhatsApp & Instagram.
And this seemed to do the trick, the 'help text' didn't show up!
I restarted the phone and it was still gone. :good:
.....
But then when I re-added all my apps to make it look like the screenshot above, the 'help text' came back!
So there must be a maximum number of apps that you can have in the 2 columns.
I deleted the 'Travel' folder in the bottom right which had 3 apps in it, and just put 'Gallery' in it's place, with 'Instagram' on it's own in the bottom left; and the 'help text' has disappeared again!
Strange... but hopefully helpful for anyone else with this problem. :highfive:
Thanks Samaksh for suggesting

Just got mine too. Look at the update size!
I'm also upgrading, guess if they have resolved the battery drain issue
Anyone root it yet? Does the usual method per senor Heisenberg's directions work?
Post what's different guys.
7.1.1. Got a support tab in settings. Nothing but help guides. No support staff. New 'Moves' sub setting, which is where Gesture settings now live basically. Still looking for more...
Android Pay now pre-installed.
New Camera app? There's the grid options now.
New 'Restart' option when long pressing power button.
Keyboard has Gif support under emoji menu.
Not seeing anything more right now. Can't be bothered to check stock launcher as I use Apex. Sure there may be circular icons etc but I just don't care!
Seems like the battery Life improved, anyone?
I don't have the battery drain issue like 7.0

There are dozens of articles out there on what's new in 7.1.
I totally hate the support tab. It's completely useless for me, any other XDA member or even any non member with half a brain. In fact the whole settings page has gotten nasty post Marshmallow.
Otherwise things seem to be improving slightly with almost every iteration.

has any one been able to get the new nav bar working?

question
1. not the pixel launcher at default?
2. no Google Assistant
3. the navigation bar still is old design

That's the only thing I haven't been able to get it to do so far. That and I don't have as many round icons as the pictures of pixel scenes show even though I have the pixel icons all installed and the pixel launcher
Probably a silly question, but I got the OTA when rooted. Is it safe to install it from there, or should I flash it manually (I've only modified build.prop for the Assistant and have the Pixel NavBar as a substratum theme).

Not yet, from what I'm gathering it should be safe, but you lose root. I'll probably test it later today, I don't have the time to deal with it if it goes wrong right now.

This is only exclusive for Pixel Phones.
Installed it this morning. Result: No change. not a single round icon or any change!?? I am confused.
Overnight battery drain now negligible. Much better than before.

App Edge notification

My wife owns a S7 Edge. She loves the device and edge features. Problem is, she receives notifications within the edge panel that won't go away. I've done everything short of a factory reset to no avail. The app in question is Google messenger. Any help would be appreciated.

Does she have a notification on the regular app icon too(not the one in the edge panel)? I sometimes have a lingering notification on the Google Messenger icon, haven't figured out much to do about it. But sometimes i just go thru and open my message threads one by one, just to ensure that I have indeed read all the messages lol. Sometimes that fixes it because maybe there was a message that I actually never officially read. Or even if i did read them all, just opening the threads sometimes makes the notification go away.

No. Only in the edge panel. Not only have I opened every message thread, I've deleted them, cleared its cache, uninstall and reinstalled. I've even cleared the edge panel cache and data. As a last resort, I cleared the device's cache through recovery (stock). Nothing seems to work.
By the way, I'm running 7.0 nougat official

Strange theme bug in Samsung Message

Hello
Since I bought the Note 9 I have a theme bug in the message app, the themes that try to change the messages bubbles don't do it anymore.
And the result is quite dirty: I get messages written white on white !
Do someone have the same issue or am I alone ?

You can't use night mode with themes on. They cancel out each other now.
What android version are you on? If you're on Pie but you're installing a theme and the homescreen screenshot in the store shows the clock widget at the Top of the screen, then that theme isn't updated for Pie as yet and will cause issues with theming.
I am still on Oreo 8.1 and frankly I don't think I will upgrade to Pie, I saw it and OneUi on my wife's S9, it is very elegant and round but all is black or white, no more colors
In fact I had the Note 8 before and it worked properly, when the Note 9 went out, I thought it would be better, with more battery, enhanced audio and so on, but basics like the themes do not work, and I am starting to regret the change.
Besides all the apps have been upgraded to their current version under Oreo

It depends on theme you use. I have themes on Pie with colours everywhere.
I tried Pie and went back to Oreo. Many dark themes, even those updated for Pie had elements that didn't work properly (white text on white backgrounds, misaligned bubble menus). Perhaps they'll improve over time.
For now, Oreo works great and many of the Pie enhancements are available through Good Lock.
And ironically, this upgrade has shown up on my phone yesterday.
Trouble is I really want to stay on Oreo
But now there is a notification about the upgrade that is bugging me and I can't get rid of it. I seached google for a solution but apparently without rooting the phone no one found a way to stop it.
It can be stopped by using an ADB command to uninstall the Software Update app.
