New device which has a dot or hole on the power button? - Honor 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Not sure if its an led in the button or a deformed power button that has passed through quality control without being seen?
Am I the only one?
Thanks in advance

I think it's the latter. You should send it back for a replacement, who knows what else is wrong with it.

Really.
So the button is not completely smooth, like the volume rocker switch is?
The light is reflecting somehow at the point you see the dot. I've added a second photo, that shows light reflecting differantly.
I thought at first it was a power led or something?
If you run your nail down the button, does it get caught in the hole or run smooth across it?
Thanks again.

I got the same thing on my phone. I think it's just because of design because your nail doesn't get caught or anything.

Thanks all
I was hoping it was by design, as I really didn't want the hassle of an exchange.
Seems all is well, thanks for your feedback.

Aaaahhh, that's the design of the button (circular pattern embossing with a center point)
Come on man..!!!!

Using your iPad, you've obviously not used other manuafacturers who push off design issues as 'by design'.
After having the device for a couple of days, I am glad I checked.

There is no "hole", the power button has a textured finish that radiates outward from the center of the button, which is why it looks like there's something in the middle of it. If you run your fingernail across the power button, you will notice that the entire button has that textured finish on it.

Opening up the case

Hi
Two days ago, i opened he case to cut the pieces at the backcover to remove display lift. Now it makes "krkkrk" everytime when i press on the silver "thing" at the right site or when i press at the back cover. The loudest point is about 8cm over he speeker and about 10 cm under the Nexus "N". I openned the case about 5 times now. Does anybody also have the problem? How to fix that?
Regards
PS: Sorry for my English, i'm tired.

Glue the pieces you chopped off back on.

Nexus 4 Power Button

I received my Nexus 4 yesterday, but I see that the power button doesn't always respond to my touch. Sometimes, I have to press it the second or third time to make the phone lock/unlock. I understand that 'how much pressure to apply' is a completely subjective thing, but has any one of you noticed this slight issue with your device?
I've seen other people talking about this, I'm not sure if they have figured anything out.
My theory is it's actually lock screen lag that was introduced with 4.2.1. My Nexus 7 sometimes takes numerous pushes. Have only seen it a couple times on the N4, but it is there
it always happened to me because i was 'holding it wrong'.
seriously.. i think it has a sweet spot. remember how cheap this phone is. i havent had an issue with it since i stuck the bumper on. it is immediate every time i hit the button.

Thanks! The issue has started bugging me a lot now. Cos I always hold the phone in a particular way, and sometimes I keep pushing tens of times and it doesn't come on. I have to deliberately and consciously apply a higher amount of force to make it 'click' and 'turn on'. All the other previous clicks do not seem to do anything. Just wondering if I should send it back, or just buy a bumper. If at the beginning it is like this, I guess after a few months of use it would need even greater force.
install a custom rom and use volume unlock
This has always been a questionable design on Nexus devices. "Here we have a button that is undoubtedly going to be used thousands of times, so let's make it small, and not very positive" .
The button on the Nexus 1 was a joke, S and Galaxy were better because it would have been hard to make them worse. Like its predecessors, the design on the 4 can make it more difficult than it should be to make solid contact on the micro switch that is underneath as the button floats above it.
Unfortunately, like so many other things, I miss the extremely positive button that has always been on iThingies. Do they have a patent on that or what?
If you're having issues when clearly pressing the button straight on, without any angular force, I'd send it back.

i tend to agree. it almost sounds like you are pressing the button in harder and harder. even more so as it pisses you off. so what was fixable with a case probably isnt anymore. rma it and be careful with the next one.
me personally... i think they should have designed the button to be a touch lower. when i hold my phone as normal it rests on the inside of my pinky. when my thumb curls in to push the button in... i am at the very bottom edge or off of the button completely. if i hold it and dont support the bottom everything is fine. and why would i ever want to hold my lifeline to the outside world that way. it is a definite design flaw.

Is there no other way to making screen activation happen through volume control apart from rooting? My nexus one power button is gone and up till now i have not been able to root it because the power button is required to boot into recovery. I don't want this to happen to my new nexus 4
you can try touch control. Needs to be rooted as well and might experience some minor battery drain.

I have to agree, the power button is really annoying.

Giving this a try, hope battery drain is better than TC. Proximity sensor wake up working great.
i think im having this problem too.like you said,it has a sweet spot for it to respond.
i have to really press it at the middle,no slightly upper or lower part of the button.not sure if it's manufacturing defect or what, but it bugged me sometimes
Same problem i am facing now
Being the only physical button for power, lock and screenshots the button has become more unresponsive to gentle presses and now requires a great pressure to activate it. Is there any way to fix it before it's too late?

Use of the Grip Sensor

Hi everyone,
i just went through the *#0*# test with my Note.
And i noticed our Note 10.1 2014 has the same good old grip sensor installed the old Note 10.1 has. It triggers when you hold your note on the left side.
I did a quick search for "grip sensor" in google play and found nothing. It seems like no app uses this great sensor build into our notes.
I think this is mainly the case since nobody even knows about it.
So i start this thread now to solve this.
Do you have suggestions on how we could use the sensor?
Can someone write an app that uses this sensor? - or integrate it in an existing app
Feel free to post suggestions and your thoughts about it

Yes, but this doesn't answer the question: What does it sense?
I have a case that covers the sides, does that make the sensor useless?

Hmm it senses the electromagnetic field of your hand perhaps?... im no expert
but it even works if you hold your hand within a 1cm range behind the note. You do not have to touch it.

Nope it works through covers and even through thick cotton.
But try it yourself by dialing *#0*#

I have to add to what one of the previous users posted. This still doesn't answer what it does. What does it trigger? What could it even be used for?

it seems like it triggers nothing... perhaps samsung knows what... but its intresting that they still have the sensor build in "without" using it.
it could be used obviously to detect if you have your device in your hands..
.
You could for example try to use it to hold your device awake while holding it... but i cant say if this works without trouble...
also you could use it as a "button" - for any function in any app.. hmm in games... you have to be creative i think xD
But finding usecases for this sensor is also the reason i started this thread. So try it out with *#0*# and feel free to post suggestions

I ve been trying to turn the screen off & on when you open & close the flip case. Found that the grip sensor dustinguishes the open case from the closed... but how to use this to trigger the screen to turn on & off, I ve no clue.... any help d be appreciated.
It is on every samdung tablet
actually the two lines at the bottom of the device are the grip sensors.. when u cover it it will vibrate when u r testing the GripSensor.. but dunno what is the purpose of it

not only from the left side, actually it will trigger when you cover one of the lines at the bottom of the device, but dunno why they are used for
Its used to block out your hand when you are writing on S Note so you dont accidentally hit the back key with your palm.
Use of grip sensor
From everything I've read the grip sensor is to detect if the device is in a case/cover but as to what cares about case detection is another thing, perhaps Samsung's OS uses it

Maybe it's used for the On Body Detection lock for Smart Lock in Security option?
What about left handed people..?

Maybe Google's smart-lock uses it for the "on body recongition" because when I set my phone on the table it stays locked and when I slap my hand on the geip sensor (where the battery is) it unlocks.
Grip sensor in my note 5(SM-N930G0) is always on.screen never turns blue when i perform the test.
and due to this reason phones battery performance is very low.
Does somebody know how to fix this.
Thank you

Thanks! It's moving like 0,3mm but I guess that's not an issue and won't get worse
It moves a slight bit but so do all the other buttons.
I find all buttons jiggling a bit. That was the first thing i noticed when I took OP5 from the box. But it does not bother me much.
It's definitely looser for me in the middle or top position but it is very slight. Doesn't bother me...
