Anyone in U.S. using this phone yet? - Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Questions & Answers

Subject asks the question.
If someone using it, I'd be interested in your thoughts on it, where you purchased it, is there an evaluation period (returnable after 14 or 30 days).
I'm interested, but concerned about support.

Doubtful. The global lte variant hasn't been released yet. Unless someone was extremely impatient or visiting the u.s., I doubt anyone has it yet. I've got mine preordered from GearBest for the time being. I didn't think I'd ever purchase another Xiaomi device considering the Mi Note Pro got such horrible software support (still on lollipop), however this phone was just too good to pass up lol

I want to order one it will work on Verizon because it has all global bands

Got a global variant; still only 1 rom version (Chinese with English option). Had to install google services from Mi AppStore (like Mi Mix) and, like the mix, I am finding lots of apps that won't work on this rom. I travel a lot and JetBlue and Delta don't work; also, for some reason, this rom won't support Android Pay. Even though I am using official ROM and locked bootloader, I am getting a message when trying to run android pay that it can't due to security issues (either unofficial rom or unlocked bootloader) - Others on Mi Forums have said the same. Nice phone to look at and I got great LTE speeds but, for someone who travels a lot, too many problems to be my daily driver.
I also got a HUAWEI Mate 9 Pro with global LTE bands - zero problems with the phone; everything I use installed just fine and the phone came with google out of the box. Given the two are almost the same phone; my pick would be the Huawei. I also like that the Huawei has native support for OLED "glance" screen (time/notifications when the screen is off) and you don't have to install third party app like on Xiaomi.

Thanks for that input.
I presume the Mate 9 Pro is in fact the 6GB version. I haven't been able to find it available.
I was also considering that but came to the realization that the global version is not compatible for CDMA / Verizon. One would think that if they are in fact expanding to the U.S. They would want that business too.

I have the Global version and am using it on Verizon. It has a vendor rom installed and I'm trying to put the stock rom on there as the apn settings wont stick. Calls and SMS are fine though.

Which ROM do you have? Can you pass SafteNet test in the "SafteyNet Helper" app?
I have 8.0.13 stock ROM and have not unlocked bootloader, but I cannot pass SafetyNet test to add cards in Android Pay (I've selected HCE and Android pay as default payment, as well as granted all permissions to Android Pay & Google Services). SafetyNet is the road block for me to use Android Pay. It seems 8.0.13 went out on 11/29/2016. I am not sure how long (if ever) I will be able to pass SafetyNet test...

I am happy to announce that after the updated to 8.0.15 ROM, it passes CTS profile check today and I am able to add cards in Android Pay. :good:

Any update here guys? Mine is coming in this week, I had to grab it after the prices went under $500, what can I expect, are the latest official roms any better, I see a global one being discussed on the mi forums, also has anyone heard any news on possible Android 7, seems weird a high end flagship phone to be left behind like this considering my Mi5 is on the official Android 7 over 2 months now?

Yep I've got the Global version and I'm using it on Verizon and have zero issues. Coming from a Nexus 6P, I'm loving it so far, only had it for about a week.

Using it on AT&T, and running into minor issues as I tag along.
1- If you are using the global version on AT&T don't bother giving them the IMEI number of Xiaomi Note 2, instead give them an old phone IMEI that AT&T Recognizes. I wasn't able to register on their network and was only getting HSPA+ instead of 4g LTE.
2- I am running into issues with data not working during phone calls? Anyone else having the same issue?

[Q] Google Wallet Tap to pay

Does anyone know if any LG devices are or ever going to be able to support the tap to pay function on google wallet? According to google support it is only supported on devices with a secured nfc chip, which the lg g2 has,
When I contacted LG, they pretty much dodged the question and acted like no one should ever use google wallet in the first place, then told me it is totally up to the Carrier, in this case Sprint, then they said they do not provide support for Sprint subscribers...
Then I contacted Sprint and they said it was up to google which phones would have google wallet, i then explained a little deeper and they told me it would definitely be up to the manufacturer.
I played their little game and called the manufacturer back, played the call recordings for them and he said he would submit a ticket. I asked if maybe it was going to be included in the kitkat update and he said I would have to check my phone....
Needless to say, I got no where.
So I am just curious, DOES ANYONE HAVE TAP TO PAY ABILITIES WITH AN LG PHONE?
On the AT&T and T-Mobile variants tap to pay has been removed. Sprint is a Google wallet partner so I imagine it will be available with kitkat.
Works just fine on 4.4.2 roms. Problem is that Isis doesn't work.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Thanks for the quick answers...I wish I would have known before I got this phone. I sold my s4 and got the lg g2 for $150. On my way home I needed gas but I didn't have any cash on me and knew I had some money on my google wallet account, but I could not get tap to pay to work. While waiting for someone to bring me gas money I made all those calls hoping for a good answer, to no avail. I ended up having to close out my wallet account to get my money, but that only took four days.
So when you say it works on 4.4.2, is that aosp, aokp? or which one? I was trying to find one that was closest to stock, but they're all named pac-man, etc. I wish there was one that was straight aosp, any suggestions?
I am using CM 11 right now. Paranoid Android is very nice as well. They are mostly AOSP. To stay mostly stock seems to mean no wallet, at least for now. Once an official VZW KK comes out I would think both Isis and wallet will work. Fingers crossed.

You can get wallet on there no problem even with a mostly stock Android.( Yes ATT and some others block tap to pay with it. However, look around, it works and you can get it working fairly easy. I have it running now and used it a Home Depot in Atlanta earlier today ). PA and CM11 as well as some others will work with it just fine as well. Wallet does NOT require a secure element on any phone since KK. It's now done via card emulation at the server side by google.
I use Power User Edition ROM and it works just fine on it. Based on an international rom I belive where it IS available.
ISIS works fine on the ATT phone. You just need to get a newer SIM from them if you haven't already.

I am not familiar with Isis, I have Sprint and we dont even get PC Suite to back up our phones, we have to root our phones and use a custom recovery to backup and restore, we don't have a choice. Paranoid Android is one that I was looking for, the problem is I don't think its available for the Sprint variant yet. With the galaxy S4, I was reading that the roms were interchangeable because of the GSM capabilities on Sprint variants now, but I tried installing a vzw rom to get PC Suite working to no avail, I guess I'll keep trying the Sprint thread, now that we have our own, I appreciate all the info

I feel so lsot not knowing what Isis is, I'm new to the LG G2, there isn't much for software on the Sprint variant, I just checked out the Power User Edition thread, it looks awesome like exactly what I'm looking for, I'll have to keep checking the Sprint Original Thread looking for it, thanks for the info
Isis is just like Google wallet although it s a little bit more restrictive to what types of Cards you can use. For example I think it's only American Express and Wells fargo cards that you are able to add to the program in order to pay. I'd choose Google wallet over that any time

New Variant (ME375CL) released into the wild April 2015

This is the model AT&T will be carrying starting April 10th. Seems like a watered down version of the ME572C plus LTE connectivity:
Press release
Too noob to post links... sorry!
K00X?
Well that's strange... I picked one of these up today from AT&T and the model listed on the box and back of the device is K00X.
Now I don't know what to think. When I do a search for that I only get results for Asus Fonepad 7. But the box is clearly labeled Memo Pad 7 and the device does not appear to be equipped to make calls.
Now I'm trying to remember where I saw the "ME375CL" designation. I know if you search for this on Asus' website the correct specs for the device are shown, whereas K00X doesn't return anything.
Kingo Root did not root.
Towelroot failed to make it ra1n.
RootZenFone reported "This is for ZenFone only".
Dose anyone no how to root it?

I am curious of this as well.
AT&T is "giving" this away in a promo now so there might be an influx of people searching. Mark me up as one of them.

Right, that's how I got mine... I already have a Nexus 7, but figured for 99c (well, plus $10 a month for LTE), why not. Have 14 days to return if also. Not sure if I really need another tablet, but I guess I will need to decide pretty quick though lol.

Same here. Picked mine up yesterday for $0.99 as it seemed like a good deal. But definitely don't want kitkat on it. Any news as to whether this has been rooted for Lollipop or Marshmallow?
Thanks.

To date, no root, no lollipop or marshmallow, at least that I've found. Issue seems to be that even though it's a memo pad 7 its an ATT-specific variant that's different enough that the standard rooting tools for the Asus memo pad do not work.
On the plus side, as already mentioned since att is basically giving these away they'll be more out there so possibly some development may occur soon.
Realistically, I'm leaning toward taking mine back - sure it was only $0.99 but I've already got a nexus 7 and do I want to pay ten bucks extra a month for this ( for the additional LTE device) when I really don't need it. All things things considered it's a pretty neat little budget level tablet and if I didn't already have the N7 I'd probably be keeping it for sure... on the fence right now though...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
EDIT - I will say this, the MP7 smokes my Nexus7 in regards to battery life.
Fiddled around with some rooting tools for the Memo Pad and Fone Pad, ie mainly the temp tethered recovery solution just trying to flash the SuperSU zip... everything seems to work except the custom recovery never launches, probably due to there not really being a recovery out there for this model. I tried various memopad/fonepad versions of twrp and cwm but nothing seemed to work. .
I've got until Thursday to return it - my luck someone will figure out how to root it Friday lol. But, I don't want to be paying $180 over the next 18 months for a tablet sitting in my desk drawer either.
Well my two weeks ended today, so I took it back... no point in paying $180 over the next year and half for something I would rarely use, it at all.

Anyone know where to get a stock ROM for this thing? I've got some kind of corruption issue that doesn't seem to be resolved with a factory reset, I think, and I would like to get the built in recover to reload the OS from the MicroSD card if possible. Asus wants me to sent it back in to them but I'd rather fix it myself. Any pointers to a copy of a recent stock ROM?
Thanks!
I got the same tablet (ASUS K00X) from AT&T and tried all the rooting solutions for the Memo Pad 7 i could find, but nothing worked. I guess we'll have to wait a little longer before getting this tablet rooted.
I don't even care about rooting it. Stock ROM is all I need..

Anyway to network unlock this ME375CL from ATT? Would like to use it while travelling....
I too need to network unlock mine. Might just have to pay for an unlock code, sadly it's hard to tell what sites are legit or not for that service.

I actually submitted an online unlock request to AT&T (after their system was messed up for 3 days) and they sent me the code for free within 2 business days. I was really surprised, I thought it wouldn't be eligible for unlock since it was an un-used Go-Phone device. I guess they were feeling generous. Works great on T-mobile, although the process of getting the free 200mb of monthly tablet data was a chore. Have yet to use it, I don't really need it for anything (tab automatically connects to my phone hotspot), just figured it was cool to have for free.
any how to on installing Xposed on a KK OS of this tablet?

Sucks, I did the same today and I got this: "We're unable to process your request because the device is currently active on another AT&T customer's account."
But in fact, this was a prepaid tablet and not tied to any accounts...
Anyhow, I don't have an AT&T SIM and it won't even let me update. Is there a ROM that I can sideload to upgrade to Lollipop? I'm still on the initial KK build, has quite a bit of crashes.

A few questions for the TMobile Variant

I'm pretty much sold on the thing, since I can unload my 3T at the same time--but a few questions first.
1: Can anyone test Samsung gear watches with the phone? I've read Samsung pay only works if you sideload the gear app, but would prefer it working 100% since I plan on staying unrooted.
2: VPNs have caused some issues on past carrier phones, basically using hotspot data rather than regular data. Can anyone just run a quick test to make sure this isn't the case? Mostly for use of Blokada.
3: Does RCS work? I know TMobile was rolling it out by device, but it seems this would be the perfect time to add it with the 6T.
Thanks!

1. Setup my gear s3 and it works perfectly. Everything is sideloaded as you install from the galaxy Wearable app.
2. This device already seems to have a private VPN set up as default, didn't touch it but it gives you the option to add.
3. RCS I'm assuming does not work and depends on tmobile actually activating them over an OTA update.

Thanks for the quick reply. For the gear stuff, I know it sideload through wear but I had read with the OP6 you had to get S-Pay from an apk mirror. Have you tested pay and it all works?

I'm pretty disappointed that RCS nor the Samsung/LG version work. It is super important to me, believe it or not. I'm hoping they release an update for this to work sometime soon.

It's a TMobile issue not OP, sadly. No idea why they're doing it in stages and by phone.
My TMobile version does not have the hold power button down to activate Google Assistant feature. Is everyone else missing this?
I got some tmobile variant questions aswell?
Im from México but my brother is on vacation in USS.. in thinking on buying the oneplus but im a little confused about unlocking the phone... Some people say i have to use it with tmobile for 40 days to be able to unlock it even if i make the full pay for it.. othe people say you can unlock it the same day you full pay for it with the tmobile app..
So, can someone confirm who is correct with this because i wont like my brother to buy me the phone and then cant use it because of locked sim..
Also another question.. do you know if later we could install the international firmware on the tmobile version and get the updates directly from oneplus??

1) SIM Unlocking:
YMMV,only way you'll know for certain is trying it yourself. My recent experiences w/Customer Care lead me to believe they'll accommodate you.
2) Int'l ROM flashing onto a T-Mobile variant.
No,that is not possible. Perhaps some aftermarket ROM will be available later, but,no ,not at this time, official,or,otherwise.
Updates will come from T-Mobile.
If you're gonna buy it outright, why bother w/T-Mobile anyway, just skip the hassles & go for the unlocked version.....................

Because TMobile will allow you to buy the phone for 280 out the door with an approved trade-in device.
This is my current situation....I like to tinker and flash ROMs/mods. Hopefully if I end up with the Tmo version, I'll still be able to flash custom ROMs once development gets going for the device.

Well it looks like I'll be ordering from OP directly. It seems if I pay 280 and get the device I'll still pay 12 dollars and change a month until I hit the 570 mark to have the device "paid in full." I guess the 300 dollars goes towards savings on the bill. I read comments on here saying even if you buy the phone from TMobile, in order to "buy it outright" you still have to pay the full price of the phone. I need an unlocked bootloader and root so I guess I'll just pay OP directly.

Yeah it's really only a good deal if you're already or going to stay a T-Mobile customer. You wait a couple of months for the billing discount to kick in and you pay off your device in full. After that you'll still get your discount every month and you'll be able to unlock your sim card and unlock your bootloader.

I am a TMobile customer and plan on staying with them. Flashing the latest updates is kind of a big deal to me....I've been a Nexus/pixel user for years and am not use to being locked down by carrier restrictions when it comes to unlocking devices. I just don't feel like dealing with the clutter and hassle of having sift through the carrier's rules before doing what I want with my phone.

I agree, and I'm the exact same way. I've been on T-Mobile forever and have had a Nexus device since the Nexus 4. I had a Galaxy 4 for work and hated it.
This is my first carrier device pretty much ever. Before the Nexus 4 I was using the HTC HD2 and before that I was using Palm Windows and Palm OS devices.
Pretty much the way I see it is if this is too much of a pain, I can always sell it and go with my original plan of getting a used Pixel 2 XL on swappa.
I'll give it a chance. The price was just too good to pass. And I'm fairly confident in OP's laziness on locking down this phone. I have a feeling it will be pretty simple to swap over to the international rom, and if not, at most we'll have to wait a day for someone to repack the official rom removing the modem and/or bootloader. And if not, on to swappa it goes.

Rooting a New OnePlus 8 Pro for Activation at Verizon (Noob Questions)

I'm very sorry for the noob questions but It has been a VERY long time (Droid X days) since I've done any sort of modding to an android phone.
I've been jumping from Samsung flagship to Samsung flagship since then but now as I have become more concerned with my digital security I want to have a rooted phone again.
If I buy a US version of the OnePlus 8 pro from OnePlus' website will I be able to root the phone and activate it at Verizon?
From what I've read on the internet, this should be possible but I was just confirming with the most knowledgeable community I know of.
Thanks so much in advance.

If you are buying a carrier unlocked phone straight from Oneplus then the carrier doesn't effect anything. Yes you can root it. Using my rooted 8 Pro on T-Mobile right now.

Yes, you can. I received my OP8Pro Wednesday, took it out of the box, powered on, unlocked, then put the SIM in and activated it on Verizon. Root can come after. Make sure yo have your account flagged as CDMAless for the OP8Pro. You need it so messaging works correctly.

Thanks to all of you. I bought an 8 Pro in Ultramarine Blue last night and should be getting it by Wednesday. Can't wait to get it and start modding it with the help from the fine folks on XDA.
I purchased the 8 from Verizon they have it so locked down you cant root,or unlock bootloader. I returned that one and purchased the 8 pro directly from oneplus. Using it now on verizon unlocked, rooted and on Dp3. Only note is that verizon wifi calling don't work. Not a big deal for me.

I haven't investigated yet, but I've read about root required edits that may activate Wi-Fi calling. Only thing that'll screw it up is if it's just not available from Verizon

S8 sm-g950w (canada) gonna break it or smash it. Volta Wireless?

Hello XDA community. Just want to thank the providers, mods and users in advance for providing a cool forum to discuss related matters, as well as for any help provided to me in my struggle to get past this carrier locked bootloader. I find it very bothersome to not have access to my own phone by root. Especially now when my carrier (to be unnamed here) is forcing a sim card swap and re-branding of its company in my province in Canada under new agreement and terms in time with the passing of bill C-11.
Bill C-11: An Act to enact the Consumer Privacy Protection Act and the Personal Information and Data Protection Tribunal Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts.
Given the political climate, i'm deciding to leave this carrier. I've a sat phone with a large bank of minutes which lacks the usefulness of a smart device. But will have to do if alternative carrier (volta wireless https://www.voltawireless.com/ ) is unable to provide functional alternative. I'm currently waiting for a sim card from Volta but have concerns about the ability to use their app on this phone with the current firmware installed. I've already discovered, after resisting 3 years of updates on this phone, when i allowed the phone to update in order to install gopro software ( it killed me to do it, but needed camera for an event and panicked), that certain radio show app would no longer access or buffer stream from source. So i have a feeling apps like Volta Wireless one are going to struggle as well. I've not tested with their sim card installed yet, but currently the Volta app is able to receive sms, but not send. Voice and data appear to be working though. So a third party voip app would likely function. (need to test) I've heard reports of others with this issue leading me to wonder if the One Ui or android version might be playing a hand?
Please bear with me. My experience with much of this technology in terms of unlocking or rooting is limited. I've jailbroke my Iphone4 a long time ago, my samsung S5 (also had a carrier locked bootloader that was able to circumvent) i rooted about 5 years ago with cyangenmod and then drove over it with my truck.
My current phone delema:
Samsung S8 sm-g950w / G950WVLS8CTI1 question? does the "S8" mean it has vers 8 bootloader?
One UI version 1.0 / Android ver 9
Currently i'm 100% missing the "OEM unlock" toggle. No amount of changing date and queuing the update will help as is a Canadian carrier with modded rom - G950WVLS8CTI1 i believe.
I could use some guidance from the more experienced than I. Even if to simply tell me there is not currently a viable option for this phone. Newb question- Can Odin flash a rom on the dl screen with a locked bootloader? I'm curious how a rom set by sammobile would work? - https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s8/firmware/SM-G950W/XAC/download/G950WVLS8CTI1/376914/ As i recall that was the solution to getting past this same issue with my old Samsung S5. I followed a guide on that and likely different circumstances on my S8 phone now.
Security is of concern so root modding with online service seems too sketchy to me, both in terms of the phone and the credit card required. I think sammobile would be pretty secure if solution was applying their rom if possible?
Once again, thanks in advance for any who read this far. I appreciate any advice or opinions on anything discussed. Let me know what your thoughts are on service like Volta. There is not unlimited data plans in my province / region. So if their service works then it will be very worth it. I just need a good rooted phone with secure platform to test their app on to know if it works with their carrier sim card installed. They do sell a phone but i'm wading in on a month to month to test first. This service is more or less in beta in my region and they are ruffling feathers (based on bot messaging on youtube results). I'll report my findings here.
