Dude so I was scared to install TWRP backup because it wasn't for this exact phone carrier and I saw a lot of people were screwing up their phones doing the process so do you know of a process which I could get TWRP on this phone whileist not screwing it up like everyone else ?
Phone is brand new and I would have backed up and and installed debloated rom already but again with everyone having issues im kind of hesitant .
So I'm probably going to do it anyway ( my phone is my phone damn-it! ) but I need to read more throughout the forums and see exactly what's causing these issues because I do not want to brick mine and any insight you have as to what happened to yours during the process could be beneficial .

I already tried

For samsung devices, the only method to flash a recovery seems to be odin. I did not find a recovery for my variant
I ended up returning the phone anyway since there is no recovery, its best you do the same. It was a good phone for $30 though. I ended up getting super desperate, and i tried to flash all the recoveries available for this phone, none of them worked. It did not brick my phone however. If you still want to give it a try you can. If it does brick you should be able to restore using power, vol UP and home. Just wait a bit and an android recovery comes up where you can reset to factory. Im not entirely sure about this process. Best of luck to you!

yeah i tried and failed as well . all i want is to be able to use the memory card as storage for apps and whatnot so that i don't run out of 8gb of space after installing only a few programs . what a shame because the phone is not too bad but by samsung removing this feature that's built into the android ecosystem , what a bunch of dicks .
much luck back to you my friend .

Same crap just happened to me sobi flashed a stock firmware thru Odin. Now whwnbi power I n the phonebir foes thru a factory binary loading screen and then all this factory crap. Anyvone know how to get it back to normal?

restore from ROM manager bricked my phone

I did a search and couldn't find much help.
I recently dropped my phone and the screen got a slight crack, so the insurance company sent me a new one.
I figured I'd use ROM manager to backup my old phone, and restore it on my new phone.
New phone restores, reboots, and gets stuck at the black Vibrant screen.
I can get back into recovery mode fine, but nothing seems to work.
I let it sit at the Vibrant screen for about an hour before I try again.
Its attempt 3 when I decided to come on this site for some help.
Specs:
Stock
Rooted
Launcher pro
Nothing too much to be confusing and brick, so wtf?
Oh and I understand I could use odin to reflash my phone, please please please don't suggest odin, because I don't own a PC, I own a mac. Please don't tell me to go out and buy a PC or to download a program that costs $50 to use PC programs on a mac. I could have told myself that kind of information.
HELP, my brand new phone is destroyed wahhhh
From the sound of it you still have your old phone. If so, rather than restore using nandroid, try downloading a copy of titanium backup to backup/restore your apps. I have found that sms restore does a good job restoring texts. For me those two apps get the job done restoring my info. Also, if you haven't, sync your contacts to google and they will auto sync upon load. Of course this all assumes you still have your old phone in working order. ..
Also, there are stock roms flashable via clockwork that basically do the same as odin. Check the ' bible' sticky for links.
Hope this helps

The only way I can think of that a nandroid restore would soft brick you, is because you have restored a version of android with a different kernel.
If the original phone had the original firmware (JFD), and the replacement had the most recent (JI6), this is what would be expected to happen.
Since you seem unable and unwilling to use Odin, your going to have to tell us more details (i.e. which versions of the firmware as related above were actually in play) before we can begin to help. If you don't know, well....
You can also simply take it back to a local T-Mobile store and do another swap, or you can find a friend with a Windows PC and Odin (or Samsung's Mini KIES with JI6). These are your only real options...
both phones had JI6
Thank you for the quick responses.
I'm not unwilling to use odin, but unless anyone knows of a free software to use PC programs on a mac, I'm SOL.
so, you got the new phone, rooted, got rom manager and then got clockwork recovery right?
You did a nandroid backup right (on the new phone), before flashing anything right?
Why not just download Fusion and flash that to get the phone up and running?

Well hmm....so much for guessing on my part. Crossing different build kernels is one sure fire way to brick...
Well, there is a solution for Mac and Linux for reloading firmware on a Samsung phone from Download Mode, an open project called Heimdall. It does everything Odin does, but without a GUI, so it depends on how comfortable you are with commandline/shell.
I'll pass you the relevant links so you can see for yourself what's going on.
[PROGRAM] Heimdall - Cross-Platform Open-Source Flashing Software (1.0.0 Available)
Heimdall's Website, with downloads...
XDA Dev Thread with JI6 Odin .tar file....
Best of luck!

True that...Why didn't I think of that obvious ploy. If he can get into Recovery, and bounce over to clockwork...Well now's a good a time as any to try Bionix or Bionix Fusion...or a few other of the CW Recovery installable builds...Definitely easier than Heimdall or working out Odin on a mac....and definitely preferable to staring at a Vibrant logo...

If there was a step by step walkthrough, I have no problem trying this out.
But I downloaded it and have no idea what I'm doing. Therefore, still SOL
^ are you? You didn't answer my questions.
I'm gonna guess and say you also dl'd the oclf from the market to root too... so now you can't get back into CwR... right?
If you can get adb to recognize your phone then your not SOL. Im not sure what the exact command lines would be but you could delete the update.zip and replace it with another ROM. GL
I just tried using Odin on my roommates PC. An error happened and now the phone is showing a picture of a phone, a couple dots, an exclamation mark, a couple dots, and a computer.
Nothing I can do is taking it out of this screen. Unplugged from computer, took out battery, took out sd card, put it back in... nothing
Am I bricked for good now?
This is a terrible day.
edit: i managed to be able to get the phone into download mode.
No you are not completely bricked! Honestly that is almost impossible on this phone. The only way you'll lose this phone is if YOU give up.
Just keep trying and take a few deep breathes. Take a break actually. Just redo the process from step one.
Edit: you're half way there. Just flash Eugene's froyo that doesn't brixk, reboot, flash JFD or JI6, reboot... then you'll be right back to out of the box status.

No worries, we've all been there. It took me 6 hours lol. Best part is after you go through this once it will only take you 5-10 mins the next time. The hard part is just getting everything setup in the mist of anger, frustration, fear & panic.

Installed Chainfire 3D now stuck on boot screen HELP PLEASE!

Hello,
I installed chainfire 3D ( Yes I know I should have read that jelly bean was no compatible) and am now stuck on the boot screen of my phone. I have got the factory hard reset menu up but don't know what to do apart from that. I have checked on other threads and they are all really confusing for a person that is new to android. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also can I just permanently erase user data or will this brick my phone?

No worries any help at this moment is appreciated haha. I just downloaded the stock rom and yep im in the recovery bootup thanks to this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUwi4YZWbyk
Once I download the stock rom what how do I install it. I don't mind deleting all the stuff of my phone I just want it to work.
If you had cwm you can use adb to remove the .apk via recovery.. twrp even made it easier by having a file explorer inside the recovery..
But if you haven't installed them both i'm afraid you're out of luck..

Recovering your phone at this point wont help you at all my friend :/ you have officially bricked your phone sadly this is beyond my level of expertise in the smartphone world i would take it to a local rooting/roming buisiness on craigslist or i think cricket will do it... call them up and let them know your problem detail for detail they will probobly tell you you soft bricked your phone there is a slight chance they may be able to fix it for 15-50 dollars depending on how bad it is
Can you still get into TWRP or CWM recovery?
If so then you can probably still use an adb interface to push a ROM.zip file to your phone to flash. If you cant then Im not sure how you would go about fixing because we do not have an unlocked bootloader so I do not think you will be able to use fastboot commands to flash a ROM. Maybe someone more knowledgable in this can help you out better than I.
same thing with me
Dude the same thing had happened to me on my gionee p3 and i tried everything but u have to just take it to the service centre and i got mine done for free as i had a warranty but if u dont u will have to pay and also this happens when u download **** things that take the main startup programs of ur phone
.....so best of luck

Hi ,
welcome to the wonderful world of flashing...
Easy way out would be after you backup everything important in your phone ( pics , music , contacts , video....) to flash and stock rom again ( same you had) with Odin and start all over again....
Option 2 but i would trip knox bit would be flash a custom recovery and flash a custom rom....

We all been there....
Easiest way out is reflashing and start all over ......you can try reinstalling from your friend also but you may get into a bootloop and you would have to reinstall firmware again.....
another option would be to download a custom rom for you phone and extract from the zip the missing apps and re install them in you rom again ( with the right permissions usually rw r r) that would possible save you re installing every thing .
Advice get an app like galaxysim unlock

Make an EFS backup and save it in a safe place....( all your imei info is there) sometimes flashing gets unfriendly

Restore from failed TWRP install?

Is there a guide for restoring to stock? Can I just go to sammobile, download my firmware and flash that with Odin should my twrp install fail and throws me into a bootloop?
Thanks
Good luck with that

Hello everyone. The think is that I have read a lot with similar things but I can't fix my problem. I wanted to flash TWRP and root my phone. First day Odin couldn't do it. I had that blue bar but no reaction. Finally Odin works I can flash recovery but that's it. When I'm trying to reset the device after one second Samsung logo disappearing and its starting to reset and reset and reset. Doesn't matter which buttons I'm holding except the ones for download mode.
Samsung galaxy s8 SM-G955F_2017-12-10_08 Exynos dreamltee
And that's all information about my phone because I can't even turn it on.
Is it bricked or I have a chance to solve it?

So basically my phote is sudden death so far because i didnt had a time to think about his ressurection. But what I have just realised... I was struggling with my device because of his not turning on i cant even read any numbers, version, nothing about him at all. But suddenly, I have remind that i was register on my samsung. So there should be everything about my phone.
Ok, can now someone advise me how should I act with that knowledge?
which number I might need to find which rom for example??
Ok, It looks like i have sorted it out. I have lost one hour of my life contacting samsung support team. it doesn't matter what i've asked her - the answer was "we not recomend rooting your device". Yes, indeed
Anyway - based on info I had, I've only remembered that is was sm-g950f dreamlte exynos. But that knowlegde was useless at this time. Basically I hade to read about CSC (Country Specific Code), and then I've just choose first from top. I have download SamFirm_v0.3.6 After filling that csc number and model of my device I just had to wait for firmware to download to my PC.
After that simpli extract to desired folder and we all know what to do next using Odin. Thanks for anyone who read and who's gonna read that post. I hope my lack of developing skills, will be helpfully for your futured adventures.

It's all done mate, now just downloading million of app updates to get back to norm. It is still not rooted but I'm glad that I was able to fix it. Maybe I'm not posting much , but reading a lot of threads on XDA. It is the best developing school I've ever seen. And I'll try to root it tomorrow

You have to get twrp installed first once you get that done you got to remove device encryption so you can access the data partition of twrp to be able to do a nanodroid then you flash magisk and you good to go... Then do a backup and flash xposed and you then open up your device to many more possibilities

Everything is ok now. I've spend 30 minutes maybe. My device is rooted thanks to @dr.ketan and his guide
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/samsung-galaxy-s8--s8-cross-device-development/fix-data-mount-fix-s8-twrp-oreo-t3769254.
I've made backup efs and big asking for easy explanation what to do next. Do I need to uninstal magisk for example? disable some updates?
Please guys, I have never been so far, that I dont want to screw anything because of not turning something left or right.

Well, first I've flashed twrp via odin, I've reboot phone in recovery at first attempt what really surprised me. Then in recovery I've flashed pie root for OEM. And after that I've stuck for a while didn't known which option to choose. But I've just click Next, yes, next and five minutes later phone was rooted. I've check results with root checker but it wasn't rooted. Till next restart. And of course I've download and install magisk and flashed recovery. I've made all backups and titan backup just in case. And I've turned off Google play updates. I've just followed instructions carefully I'm still confused about, what next? I was tying to find what is after root. But I couldn't find anything bout that. All atemps finishing differently based on devices and software versions. No, I'm sure that I have did that root correctly, there was no leaf clover, you know ?

Well after rooting you start building up your daily driver the way you like it with the apps you want...
And the customizations yuu want for your phone.... You should install a adblocker for your phone so you won't get any ads since you rooted you can go with adaway use a host file and have ads blocked don't have to worry about a background service to block ads which utlizies memory that could be going somewhere else and battery life like non rooted people have to deal with... Even tho if your phone has alot or memory to spare you can use adguard which has a mode for root users also but it's always running in the background

Just periodically do backups in twrp so if you mess up you can always revert the backup and you be exactly where you wore before the error so you wouldn't have to factory restore and if you do modifications to the system partition as well then in that case a rom reflash cause a factory restore doesn't fix system partition errors cause that partition is read only can only be accessed via root permissons or threw twrps file manager which you would have to mount system partition in twrp first then twrp file manager can access it
