Please tell Google to make search bar in Maps an option

How many people are aware Google has a place where you can submit bugs / feature requests and people can "star" them to help Google rank the issues?
To that end, please go to code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=11176 and press the star in the top left corner to let Google know users should have the ability to turn the search bar in Maps on and off as an option. I refuse to update the app until this feature is added.
Then go to the list and star your other favorite topics. Let Google know what you think!
Thanks!

No he means in the recent update there is a search bar that cant be removed at the top, he wants google to make that bar optional so he can get a full map
I second this I wasn't really happy with a huge bar in my maps.
Oh. Just download Brut maps 16

I've stuck with the previous version of maps because of this issue...I'll never understand why some Google programmer decided it was a good idea to force the search bar...and apparently his fellow programmers agreed with him. Makes you wonder if these guys actually use their software.
Google makes their money by....... search and placing ads withing the results and it´s not like the search bar takes up half the screen.
I prefer this search bar over those in-app-ads that most free programs use.
I agree that I've like the search bar to be removable, but I'm not going to star your bug, because its in the wrong place and thus has minimal chance of being seen by anyone who cares.
Gmail/Maps/Market are closed-source apps and should be commented on in the google mobile forums. The AOSP bug-tracker will only track bugs in code that is part of AOSP, I.E. not Google Maps.

Simple performance gain for Xperia SP

Hi all,
Today I have accidentially discovered something that helped my Xperia a little bit.
I started to look into its lag and performance problems after playing for a while with my wife's Motorola Moto G.
By the way, Moto G is a small miracle I'd say.
So I started to investigate for potential source of problems for Xperia. Then... I disabled the "Google search" app (yes, that one on the top of main screen). And the phone works much, much better now !
This is no problem for me as I never used this search bar. But just to confirm, maybe others could also try out if it helps them, too ? It's easily reversible.
Even i did the same thing and it does really help. My phone is as smooth as it should be. Zero lags. And i love the xperia themes

Yeah, I agree, Google search (incl. Google Now) drains a lot of battery even when unused-it runs in the background. Also the Moto G is great, my bro and dad own it, I am thinking of getting it as well. :fingers-crossed:
can you search anything in browser afterwards?

Of course, since it has nothing to do with this app.
I disabled google search directly after I bought the phone. It runs extremely smooth especially with 4.3.
Google Search app is just for the widget, google now and all of the background stuff it brings - which is definitely a reason for slow devices and battery drain.

For me the 'Google now' icon when long tap home change to search button (a magnifier instead google logo), and then open browser in google.com.... I was using dolphin browser, maybe try this?
also, I didn't notice any improvement in perfomance disabling google search.... but I have no Google Play services drain or anything....

Update: Good news everyone it is working on moto e3 power just popped out on the phone by long pressing the home button . And I'm in India!

I'm talking about full system level assistant. It is not available in my country, but in other countries where it is available, I want to know if it is working on moto e3 power or not.
I've got it this morning on my Panasonic Eluga tapp.I think it is a server side switch from Google.

Playstore Roaming Issue

Hi everyone, just got the moto G5 plus. Everything was great until I realized you cannot download apps from playstore when on roaming. Has anyone found a workaround for this. It is a Android N issue and searched a lot but found no solution.
