Need some guidance in updating (miui global stable) - Xiaomi Redmi 3s Questions & Answers

Hi Everyone,
I'm very new to MIUI. I have the Redmi 3S Prime.
So I rooted my phone (SU systemless) and I was wondering is it safe to update my phone normally through the updater or not?
I'm using TWRP. MIUI 8.0.3.0 (Global Stable).
Are there any special procedures I need to follow?
Also Will I lose root access after the update?
TIA.

Considering you have twrp installed, all you have to do is-
1. Download the update package/zip from the Updater app. It'll be stored in your internal memory under the folder "downloaded_rom" or something similar
2. When the download completes, reboot to twrp recovery and install the downloaded update zip
3. Most importantly, in twrp, tap "Advanced" and select "Disable dm-verify" so that you won't get stuck in a bootloop
You'd have to manually flash the update each time it is released after downloading it from the Updater app and after successful install, make sure you tap "Disable dm-verify".

are you on twrp 3.0.3-1? make sure you update twrp to the latest version first before you do anything
step 1: go to the "how to Install OxygenOS 4.0.1 with Stock Or Custom Recovery without Data Loss!!" thread and download the newest supersu zip file and the FULL 4.0.1 zip file (larger file)
step 2: boot to recovery and nandroid backup
step 3: go to wipe, advanced, wipe cache and dalvik
step 4: go to install and flash the full OOS 4.0.1 zip file then directly after flash the newest supersu 2.79 zip file
step 5: boot to system should take a bit longer than usual then you will be in nougat
hope this helps

[GUIDE] Root using Magisk, keep stock recovery for OTA

This is a guide for people who want a rooted MIUI. It will keep stock recovery and system partitions untouched to allow MIUI OTAs to install without problems. It will also pass Google's safety net test so bank apps keep working. The best of both worlds really
Requirements:
- Unlocked bootloader
- Windows PC
- fastboot (present in the miunlock app folder)
- Latest TWRP (download here)
- Latest Magisk (download here)
Steps:
- Install latest Magisk app
- Put latest Magisk zip on your device storage (SD)
- Shut down device
- put latest twrp.img in miunlock folder
- Connect phone to PC
- Press volume down and power button to boot to fastboot mode
- Open "Command Prompt" on your PC
- Type: (without quotes)
----- "cd C:\Users\[your name]\Desktop\miflash_unlock-en-2.3.803.10" . (or wherever the folder is)
----- "fastboot devices"
----- "fastboot boot twrp.img"
- In a few seconds, TWRP will boot on your phone. DO NOT swipe to make changes to system.
- In TWRP, flash the Magisk zip
Enjoy root

Does it mean I can install TWRP and flash xposed etc and still have OTA updates?

Same as my question. Let say system partition won't touch by root, but twrp is installed over the Mi stock recovery. Will it install Eta?
This guide DOES NOT flash TWRP. Stock recovery remains so OTA updates work.
The only thing that is touched by this guide is the "Boot" partition to install magisk. You can restore stock "Boot" using magisk manager's uninstall option at any moment and be 100% stock again.
Ok, but is Xposed etc. possible?

Well... That's I mean, boot TWRP using adb
After have TWRP, how can i get update via OTA?
it successfully worked for Redmi Note 4 global beta/stable MIUI9.2
even installed camera api 2 using magisk module
Just a quick question. I've TWRP right now with SuperSU. So I'll remove SuperSU, flash Magisk in TWRP. All good till now, but I'd want the stock recovery, a flash-able zip maybe. How can I get it? From where?
**[EDIT]**
Okay. One can get it from fastboot ROMs available at MIUI website (here), extract the pack and get recovery.img.
Installed successfully on miui 9.2.1.0 stable
Now when a new update for magisk is released, how should i update it??
I have two questions:
1. Why does the bootloader need to be unlocked and how can I do that?
2. What happens to Magisk if I install an OTA?
I'd like to keep the phone untouched but I need to change emojis and with Xposed I can use Youtube in background.

Do you mean this?
When an OTA is available, please go to Magisk Manager → Uninstall → Restore Images. Do not reboot immediately or you will have Magisk uninstalled. This will restore your boot (or dtbo if available) back to 100% untouched stock images in order to pass verifications. This step is required before doing any of the following steps written below!

Rooting with official rom?

Hi fellows
I wanted to root my Mi 9T, but I don't want to flash a custom rom, I just want to have root on the official rom (global stable).
As I understand, the correct procedure is:
-unlock nootloader
-flash twrp
-flash magisk
But I have a couple of doubts about this, in particular about updates:
-If my phone is unlocked and I have root, will I still receive official updates from xiaomi?
-if yes, do they install via twrp? Do they fail installation? Do I loose root/bootloader unlock if I install them on unlocked/rooted phone?
-if no, is there an alternative way to install updates without losing root every time?
In other words, what is the best way to have a rooted phone but with official, up-to-date rom? (I have no problems downloading/installing updates manually, but having to reapply root every time would be annoying)

As I know you could receive updates if you unlock your bootloader and flash magisk, I don't have experience with that, I've read that from other brands people do this and still get their updates.
If I'm wrong correct my.
• You will receive the ota but it won't install
• You'll have to install the full rom and reflash Magisk everytime
• Orange Fox recovery can install ota BUT not available for Mi 9T/K20
I'm not sure about Mi 9t (have to wait for bootloader unlock), but it was so on Redmi 3s: I can install OTA updates, it goes through TWRP, but after every update I have to flash Magisk.
It was several years ago, so probably they've changed something
Thanks for your replies guys.
I can now confirm (just tested) that to update a rooted mi9t all you have to do is this:
-flash update zip with twrp (you have to download the update zip from somewhere, like mifirm website, the one downloaded by the update tool is encrypted and won't work!)
-flash magisk
-reboot
Very simple! No need to reflash magisk modules, just the magisk base package and everything works as expected ?

First TWRP that came out (LR Team), but that is because it was the only one available at the time, there might be better ones out now, check the TWRP thread for more info.
Magisk, I used the latest stable release.

I think it is more simple to do the update and reflash magisk instead of searching for the update package manually, isn't it?

You mean flash the fastboot rom using a computer and then reinstall twrp and magisk?
Seems more convoluted to me, since you still need to download the rom from an external website and additionally you need a pc and you need to reflash twrp every time.... it'll probably work fine, but it seems more complicated to me

Nah, I mean you flash the update you get the usual way. And then magisk afterwards. At least I've never lost twrp with OTA updates.

You mean the one downloaded through the miui updater? I can't flash that with twrp, it's encrypted. In fact, I can't even open the zip file with file manager, it says the file is corrupted. How do you decrypt/use it?
Few days ago I got OTA update while having magisk root and TWRP installed. It rebooted phone into TWRP and installed itself through TWRP. So it seems Xiaomi can now detect what recovery you are using and instead send you recovery OTA instead? Sadly I lost TWRP and root this way and needed to find newer TWRP (old one didnt boot and caused bootloop). Rom also didnt boot (after flashing new TWRP) until I flashed magisk.
Thank you all, it's nice to find this post before I create a new with the same questions.
I bought a new "Mi 9t", it received the latest OTA update, and it has been unlocked after waiting 170 hours.
MIUI Version: MIUI Global 10.3.11 Stable
Android Version: 9 PKQ1.190302.001
Model Name: M1903F10G
Now I need to root it without flashing twrp, I need to be on the Stock recovery because I don't want to lose the OTA update.
I ran this command :
Code:
C:\adb>fastboot boot recovery.img
Downloading ‘boot.img’ OKAY [ 1.404s]
booting OKAY [ 0.127s]
Finished. Total time: 1.560s
but the device reboot to MI-Recovery 3.0, can someone correct me if I'm wrong? also which twrp version support MIUI Global 10.3.11 Stable?

Weird, I tried that (downloading update from the updater app and rebooting to twrp to auto-flash it), but TWRP said update was corrupted. I had to download an unencrypted version from mifirm site to flash it with twrp.
Maybe it's a problem with the version of twrp? Which one are you using? I'm using the one from LR Team

oh I wish I knew After update when I went to flash back old twrp and magisk it resulted in bootloop so I was flashing all twrp I could find just to make them boot and then be able to flash magisk. However name of my file is "recovery-TWRP-3.3.1-0607-REDMI_K20-CN-wzsx150" I think its "fixed" chinese one.
Is "recovery-TWRP-3.3.1-0607-REDMI_K20-CN-wzsx150" support for MIUI Global 10.3.11 Stable?
Can I boot from it to root Mi 9T without flashing?

How do i root global stable rom 10.3.11 without bootlooping? Just rooting and no twarp .

how do I update my rom

Hello all!
I am running AOSIP pie right now but I can see it exist a new update. My question is how do I do that?
Is it easy as just go in to recovery mode and flash the new update? Or do I need to do something more?
My phone is a Oneplus 6T
Oneplus 6A000
Help me please
If you're trying to update your phone you can just use the intergrated updater in the settings but be careful because it well override TWRP and you may lose root. You have one other way which ensures you keep TWRP and Root while you update the phone, you have to download the update either from the AOSIP or download the update from the updater in settings. After you download the update, use a root explorer app (Use this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.solidexplorer2 ) and locate the update which should easily be found with the search button. Search .zip and it should come up and once you know the location go to TWRP and flash in this order:
1. ROM
2. TWRP FLASHER
3. GAPPS
4. MAGISK
This is how I update Custom ROMs. Hope this helps you out.

Software update whit root and Twrp

Hello friends, this morning I skipped the update 11.0.5.0 on my xiaomi Mi 9t Global, but I have a Root and TWRP user and I would not like to have to revert that to be able to install the update there is some way to update it without losing root and twrp? I would appreciate the help AND SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH
Hello,
If you don't want to lose TWRP after OTA update => Use TWRP OrangeFox Recovery (10.1_1) => https://files.orangefox.tech/OrangeFox-Stable/davinci/OrangeFox-R10.1_1-Stable-davinci.zip
You can't keep "root", but it's simple to flash again Magisk zip installation in TWRP...
Question: What Magisk modules did you install?
Info: It's safer to download and install Full package update (=FullOTA) instead of simple OTA.

As a fellow user of a stock rom, I can recommend OrangeFox as taking OTA updates with it is SO much easier. Make sure you follow instructions to get it set up, then you just take OTA like stock. When you have to flash the full OTA, it's a great time to switch as that's part of setting up OTA on Orangefox
