PF4 pre rooted firmware - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Looking into a root for this device and found this guide: http://www.androidinfotech.com/2016/08/samsung-s5-g900v-verizon-rooted-marshmallow-firmware.html?m=1
I'm currently downloading a 1.6g firmware file that is supposed to be PF4 stock pre rooted. I have never had a root on this device and I'm not sure if this is the best method. It worries me that I see no mention of this method on XDA as this site is my usual go to for all root methods I have used before.

This will not root your device
Make a backup with Samsung smart switch or whatever way you prefer to use
Make sure to Move all important data to pc via USB cable
The best way to root is this method ok3 root method on xda under s5 Verizon section here http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370
You will have to downgrade to lolipop ok3 or pb1 firmwares from Sam mobile.com firmware section
This will cause a soft brick boot to recovery mode and wipe data and cache
Make sure you remember Samsung account sign in info
Then it will boot set it up then go to the root thread

[Q] NOOB trying to update MK2 firmware to Lollipop

As the Title states I have been trying to flash to Lollipop using the thread Update to lollipop and keep root using Flashfire app. I have downloaded and followed the procedure (yes I am rooted and confirmed with RootBasic) with it failing.
What happens is I load the files in order stated per the guide hit the lightning bolt, does the reboot and then gives error no command and then sits at stock flash update where you can either reboot, flash file or few other choices. I have tried numerous times with each time same result. What is going wrong? As I stated on am on MK2 firmware with ATT update frozen so not sure why this is. When put in download mode I confirm Knox 0 and Offical software with it having 0x30 for bootloader. Any suggestions or should I ODIN update but with what?

We just discovered this morning on the Vz S4 that FF does not function properly on their MK2(4.2) firmware which is likely also the issue here. You will first need to update to KitKat using the following file then root with towel root before updating to 5.0: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358548937
Before I proceed to KitKat with file linked to is there a guide to properly performing this and then rooting? I will update from MK2 to NB 1 then I need to root, then do the FlashFire and Lollipop undate. I see the guide to use ODIN but then I will have to root I also have not used towel root either so any guide would be awesome. This should not change KNOX either correct (although I guess it does not matter since I am long out of warranty)?
I want to have a clear understanding of procedure so I don't brick the phone! I have not used ODIN before since I haven't really done much rooting other than when I first got the replacement phone last year
I'd suggest [GUIDE]Odin to Stock, Updating, Rooting, and Installing Safestrap by guut13, and of course [How-To] Update to I337_OC3 - 5.0.1 and KeepRoot (4/7/2015) by muniz_ri for rooted Lollipop. Look in the I337 General forum for both.
Thanks Creepyncrawly and muniz_ri for both of your help it was easy to update from MK2 for this noob!
Ok I followed the guide and did update to stock nb1 and rooted, used towel root and then used flashfire to Lollipop and all seems to be working (I still am in process of setting phone up but it is running lollipop).
Since this is oc3 rooted is there anything else I have to do such as freeze att update? Anything else I should do right away?

Phone Stuck On Splashscreen

My phone is a verizon gs5 SM-G900V and I tried to root it but something (I honestly have no idea) went wrong and now it is stuck on the splash screen. I have tried everything i thought of, doing a factory reset, clearing the cache partition, I tried reinstalling the stock rom using odin but of course because there was no root and the bootloader is locked, I can't reinstall. I tried applying updates using SD no dice. I am able to access the bootloader and the and the android recovery menu if that will help at all. I don't know every acronym/term because i'm still fairly new to these terms so any help will be greatly appreciated.
I'm guessing you are on lollipop because you say you can't downgrade to KitKat aka stock
so what you should do is go to Sammobile and download either lollipop official firmware bok3 or Pb1.
then install via odin in either ap or pda slot
with the phone in download mode after that wait for the Phone to boot then set it up
then use ok3 root method by Jr Kruse on xda it's a sticky in the s5 verizon forum to get root

Need help wiping phone

Ive been having issues with my S5. Whenever I open the play store it crashes right away. I tried everything. Even reinstalling it.
Im going to just wipe everything and re root. I flashed NK2 kernal, but it didnt look like it changed anything. All my settings were still the same from after I tried the factory reset.
How do I install a fresh install again? I dont see the instructions or files any more. Seems like you had to go down to 4.2 then 4.4 then root.
I need to get this thing rooted again by saturday. I have a trade show this weekend. Need tethering. Ill lose a lot of money if I dont.
Thanks guys
You can check what firmware you are on NY going to recovery mode. To boot into recovery turn off your phone then hold power button home button and volume up button at the same time. Then check what firmware it says on the screen.
If you are on kitkat yes downgrade to 4.4.2 download the firmware on Sammobile. Com
Flash firmware using Odin
Then setup your device
Then root your device with towel root download
Then click make it rain and you should have root
After that try these Tethering apps
http://mashable.com/2012/08/16/free-tethering-apps/#43d31vkkSmq8
If you need bootloader unlock you can go to getex's kk-mm bootloader unlock thread on xda in s5 Verizon forum
If you are on lollipop go to Sammobile. Com and download and then flash bok3 or pb1 firmware in Odin to your phone
Then set it up and go to ok3 root forum on xda under s5 Verizon and follow jrkruses method to get root
Then try the Tethering apps from the link above
If marshmallow downgrade to ok3 or pb1 then follow the lollipop instructions from there

new?

there is a new updates on pf4 that can be rooted in this days?
PF4 is only rootable if your CID starts with 15.
You can't root mm on s5 Verizon
you have to downgrade using Odin to pb1 or ok3 firmware
Download Samsung drivers from Samsungs website for s5 Verizon
First make a backup with Samsung smart switch or whatever way you prefer
Then backup any other important data to your computer
downloads ok3 or pb1 firmwares from sammobile . Com
Download Odin to your Pc and install it
Connect phone to pc using USB cable flash firmware you downloaded in Odin in ap/ pda slot
If it bootloops boot to recovery and wipe data factory reset and wipe cache
if it still bootloops flash kernel file in odin from JrKruse ok3 root method the download includes ok3 kernel and pb1 kernel
Then go to JrKruse ok3 root method on xda under s5 Verizon section to get root

Like I said, it is rootable if the CID starts with 15. If it starts with 11, you're out of luck

Galaxy S8+ Sm-G955U root on chainfires list of devices

Who would be kind enough to try the C.F. Auto root on their device not sure the outcome but it is available for firmware QD9.
If it works we can flash stock QD9 Odin firmware and have a rooted phone. Let's get the ball rolling on this.
Won't work because of the bootloader being locked. Others have tested, no go.
i would try any time why not right lol
I remember when he had a temp root that would temporarily work to flash mods and such but retain stock
