Phone always awake after latest update (November 2016 E3 Power)! - Moto E3 Questions & Answers

This update was 22.x mb in size, updated security patch to october,2016. I updated 2 days ago and since then the battery is draining constantly because phone is always awake in battery stats (10% drain last night). Anyone else having the same problem? Any fix?

My friend is also having the same problem after update (same phone). I removed the sim and the drain disappeared. Maybe its because of bad signal? Or maybe its firmware issue.

Battery drain after update
My moto e3 power too is having similar excessive battery drain after the 22mb update due to phone being always awake.
Please reply if anyone has a fix.

I already informed this issue to Indian Lenovo (Moto) team and lenovo's forums also. After getting next OTA system update, it will solve.
Check lenovo's forums .

Don't go for small updates they were buggy and with lots of other issues stay on stock for better experience.
i'm still on 23.0XT1706_S131_160905_ROW and device perform very good (Getting 2.5 day battery backup).

Thank you for that clarification, this was driving me crazy because my E3 had many problems after this update.
Google now launcher force closing, all Google apps force closing, and rebooting every few minutes.
All my system information did not make sense and was wrong.
Motorola have now repaired my device it had to be wiped and the firmware reflashed, it now has System version S131 and was System version S124 before the update.
I have received notification yesterday about another 22.3 mb update, this will increase my system version from S131 to S135 as in my screenshot.
I have not installed this update.
I have read in Motorolas own forum and the E3 Facebook page many people complaining about problems with this update.
Thank you again for making us users aware this update is problematic and possibly faulty

Here is the notification of new update ?

Galaxy Note 2.3.5 high Android OS Battery Use

My galaxy note is constantly displaying Android OS use between 50-70%.
Anyone else experiencing this issue?
Flash a Custom Kernel based on 2.6.35.14 (2 are available). This solves the problem.
thanx for the suggestion.
But i'd rather keep the stock firmware, for now, as this is my first android..don't wanna risk a brick.
From other threads i've read, there's a newer firmware 2.3.6 available for the germany galaxy notes. Any idea if it fixes this bug...its really annoying..i've already done factory resets thinking it may fix it .
I bought my note in st Louis USA . It had european charger and strange language that I don't recognize . it came as KJ4 build . So I don't know from what european country my note came but I downloaded and flashed Hong Kong rom 2.3.6 and its pretty good with battery , wifi , etc . I am just really disappointed with camera . My battery usage for android OS = 8% and Android system 7% . This link might help you . http://leemn.wordpress.com/2011/11/13/rooting-and-installing-cwm-for-the-samsung-galaxy-note/

It definitely fixes it on the German Note... at least mine
I had/have the same issue. I flashed the latest KKA ROM which flahes the KK5 modem. I deodexed it and turned off some unwanted system apps. Running the CF-Root KKA kernel and Android OS spikes to about 30-40% at times. I don't think it really has much affect on battery life. From what I understand and have read, it has to do with wifi Scanning repeatedly. You can adjust your wifi sleep policy to help this.

If it's keeping your phone 'awake' then you should install BetterBatteryStats which monitors Wakelocks. It'll tell you what OS services are going nuts.
It's happened to me a few times with rogue programs and USB host going crazy when I don't unmount correctly.

Same thing happening to me? Do you experience heavier drain on wifi than 3g?

Any misbehaving program either got their settings adjusted (stuff like sync frequency) or uninstalled. The USB host issue was, I think, because I unplugged the USB host cable without unmounting first. I just rebooted my phone in that case.
Well after countless number of hard resets....Android OS use in now around 11 %...
the difference i think was because of some apps....i'm not really sure...but this time i didn't install skype, winamp and viber...cuz every time i installed em...Android OS would be like upto 90%...
I currently have 2.6.35.7 with the KK1
would it be safe to update to the 2.6.35.14?
high OS battery is my only real problem.

I have the same kernel but with kk3....dunno if 2.6.35.14 will help with Android OS battery usage...my note still has no update available....
The only thing i can suggest for now its most definitely an app you installed which is causing high android OS usage...read my previous post....i hard reset my note installed all apps i had before but not winamp, skype and viber....i've kinda narrowed it down to these 3 after many hard-resets...
When i had them installed....my phone lost about 2% battery per hour on standby....But now it loses 1-2% in 8 hours on standby...
I'm having the same this with the high OS battery drain and have skype installed. Going to remove it and see if I get the same result. I didn't have the other two.
I've got the 2.3.6 KKA firmware installed but the drain just suddenly started one time (not when I installed it). I figured it can't have been the firmware itself, but much more likely an application I had installed or had updated.
Doesn't ICS have a better breakdown of service usage etc? Should be perfect if they have done this. Just have to wait and wait and wait for the ICS version.
Surely there is an app out there that can tell you what in the "Android OS" is causing the problem?
As an indication of how bad mine is at the moment, I was 100% at 9am this morning, 11:30am now and its down to 84%.. That's really awful!
I want to reset the battery stats as it could simply be that, but don't have CWM installed on this firmware. I'm rooted though.
[update] I've removed the battery stats file and restarted to see if that will help too.

Yea...let us know if removing skype helps....
oh and i installed Asphalt 6 from the samsung apps store.....its not available in the market....i had also installed it before hard resetting my note.......and guess what....high Android OS usage again.....damn....removed it....and i think its back to normal....but still have to see if removing fixes it for sure......
I guess the battery manager will count power used by all hidden processes and services as Android OS...
I had exactly the same experience with Asphalt 6 too. Good game, but why it sucked so much power when not even in use, hell knows!
Skype not made a big difference that I could tell, but resetting the battery stats made an immediate difference. 2 hours since charged and only down to 98%. Usually it would be 90-92% by now.

Hii,
Following are my stats
Android OS at 35% (Awake Time 1 hr 36 mins)
Display at 25% (on for 3 hrs @ 12% brightness)
Voice Calls at 13% (34 mins)
I don't know if the Android OS is a bit of a drain. Feels so. I think the Wifi Sharing and Wifi always remain on. So does Social Hub - use it to sync FB pictures to contacts as Social Hub offers great quality pictures unlike FB app or Friendcaster.
I do have Skype installed, but its never been initialised, never logged into.
I use GO Launcher, with 9 home screens. TouchWiz has been rendered empty (no widgets, short-cuts whatsoever running there)
I do use APW widget pack - Twitter & FB updates at 3 hours. GReader (with Google Reader syncing every hour). 2 Contacts widgets.
In addition to it, I also have the PowerAmp 4x2 music widget. Homescreen has Simple Calender widget, A "Make youw own clock" widget, a 1x1 Beautiful Widget Weather.
Dunno if the widgets are causing the drain or not.
Like you remarked, my battery drain ATM is around 1-1.5% per hour, with Wifi On and everything running and syncing (as above)
The standby time has been pretty decent. Whereas I am happy with charging everyday, if I could reduce the AndroidOS overload, I cud brighten up my screen a bit more
Dunno wat to do now. I don't wanna root now or try any techy stunts. The phone is only 2 days old yet.
Wud appreciate if anyone can guide me around. I will try to FORCE STOP the Wifi Sharing and Wifi Sharing manager, along with Social Hub, and EMail apps/services tomorrow.
Wud be amazing to lose 2% over 8 hours on standby. Awesome.

[Q] Verizon Lollipop update - Battery life has decreased exponentially

Good morning Everyone,
I received the OTA update to lollipop on Tuesday night. Since then, I've noted the following:
Upon successful completion of the update, I was prompted to update google play service. I don't know for sure whether it actually updated but it did take a very long time to do anything. The phone was largely non responsive at this time.
The phone seems to be a little laggy since the update.
My battery life has tanked. I used to get close to 36 hours out of the battery. This has since decreased to 6 hours.
I do see another user experienced issues with google play services. I have tried clearing the cache on both the google play store and google play services and rebooted as was suggested in that thread, though I was not prompted to update it. I'm running version 6.5.99 (1642632-438) of the google play service.
The main concern is the lag and the battery life. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on?

Thanks DopeShow. It's good to know this isn't necessarily a system wide issue. I'll try reflashing as soon as I can.

I'm backing up my data now.
My S5 is not rooted. What method would you suggest I employ to reflash? I'm guessing recovery mode but wanted to get your thoughts.
My battery life is horrible on 5.0 too... I'm not rooted, so it is hard to tell what is killing it...
Just shows up as android kernel and Android system in GSAM battery program. They are taking over 2x more battery than the screen is.
Might need to factory reset at some point...

You can Odin either an OA8 tar from Sammobile or Odin a NK2 tar then OTA to NK7 and OA8. Both of these don't require root. Also, I'd suggest factory resetting once you flash a tar, as it should improve battery and it might be required to boot.
First thing to try to fix the battery drain is boot to recovery and clear the cache partition. If that doesn't work then a factory reset will be necessary to fix it. I have personally always done factory resets after system updates dating back to Froyo. Just helps to clear everything up.
Thanks for your suggestions guys. I booted to recovery and performed a factory reset. Early indications suggest battery life is greatly improved. I'll post back in a day or so to give you a final verdict.
I hope very few users suffer from this, but if so I trust this information is helpful.
I can't say I have really noticed a decrease in battery life, but I have noticed it takes longer to charge now.
I watched movies and television shows on my device yesterday, all day. Started with a full charge and got almost 8 hours of screen on time before I plugged in. Batter still had 12%. This was with stock non-rooted version of Lollipop. Seems comparable to what I was getting on KK.
I also had issues when updating to Lollipop. I had issues with Google Play Services, and I ended up having to do a factory reset of the phone.
For the most part I have had no trouble with apps force closing or anything like that. But I have had horrible battery drain as well. When I am not using my phone, it seems that the battery life maintains pretty well. But when I use it even for not intense tasks - browsing news apps or something like that - it drains really quickly. I'm lucky if I get 6-8 hours of use per day. I used to be able to last a solid 14 hours of decent use before I had to recharge.
Any thoughts what could be causing it after I did the factory reset? My phone is not rooted.
same problem
Non-rooted S5 and after lollipop update it is chewing my battery and generally laggy (slow response to screen press). Even getting force closes on apps. Backing up now for a factory reset. Hope it helps.
Edit - 3/5/15 Factory Reset and reloaded all apps. Still working through all my website logins and settings. Not enough time to know if it fixed my battery issue but feels like the lag issue is fixed. Only been a day and initial thoughts is a reset was the cure. Will check back after the weekend with an update.

Cm12 lollipop issue (people must check)

I had updated mine yesterday to lollipop via OTA and was succesfull..
SUDDENLY THIS ARE THE ISSUES WHICH I GOT
1) HEATING ISSUE: AFTER LOLLIPOP UPDATE MY PHONE IS GETTING REALLY REALLY HOT EVEN WITH A NORMAL USE
2) BATTERY DRAINING FAST: MY BATTERY IS DRAINING LIKE HELL,ON STANDBY MY BATTERY IS DRAINING AND ITS GET TO 60 PERCENT FROM 100 PERCENT IN 1 HOUR WITHOUT USING IT..I JUST CANT BELIEVE THAT TATS WHAT THE UPDATE HAS GIVEN ME
3) SLOW CHARGING: THE CHARGE TIME HAS INCREASED NW AND IT TAKES MORE THAN 3 HOURS TO FULLY CHARGE, WHILE ON KITKAT IT USE TO CHARGE IN LESS THAN 3 HOURS (ALSO GETTTING VERY VERY HOT WHILE CHARGING)
4) LAGGY: NOW IT HAS ALSO BECOME LAGGY EVEN AFTER ONE DAY SOME APPS TAKES TIME TO OPEN, EVEN SETTINGS TAKES SOME TIME TO OPEN
HAVE FOUND ALL THIS BIG ISSUES IN LOLLIPOP CANT BELIEVE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING
CONCLUSION:
SO YUREKA THIS IS WHAT YOU HAD GIVEN US. AFTER KEEPING US WAIT FOR SUCH A LONG TIME YOU HAD GIVEN US JUST ISSUE AND NOTHING ELSE
I JUST CANT BELIEVE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING.I OWN A CANVAS A1 AND IT IS ON LOLLIPO 5.1 AND WORKING REALLY FINE
BUT YUREKA IS NOT ON 5.1 RATHER THAN 5.0.2 AND REALLY MAKE US UNHAPPY
I AM REALLY REALLY REALLY DISAPPOINTED WITH YUREKA AND WILL RECOMMEND OTHERS TO NOT TO UPDATE TO LOLLIPOP AS WELL AS ALSO LET MY RELATIVES AND FRIENDS KNOW THAT TO NOT BUY YUREKA EVER
IF MY ISSUE IS NOT SOLVED THAN WILL TAKE SEVERE ACTION AGAINST YUREKA
Well I am not facing any of the above issues man ... It may be to some users only ... Try to find the solution instead of blaming

i will blame
because mine other devices are on lollipop and working fine and this **** has given me issues so thats the reason i am blaming
if you are happy then its ur reasn nt mine
on kitkat i was really happy i am only blaming after updating and facing these issues
i am also satisfied with the new update.... volume level increased .... heating down than before... only problem is the reboot....
i don't know why all guys are blaming the phone ... if you guys ate so good at this tweaking rooting and all other things why can't you use a custom ROM ...
if my reboot issue is not fixed in the next update i I'll go for a custom rom ...
rather than that yu yureka is a nice phone....

You can try the following steps for your problems.
First root your phone. There are posts here on XDA and YU forums also mentioning the right way to do it.
Then install Greenify to hibernate the apps.
Download trickstermod app from play store. In the general section of the app set min value as 200000 and max 1497600
Save and apply the frequency lock. Save again. Go to specific section of the app and apply both the settings I.e, temperatures and zram.
Apply the settings and see if it helps.
As for the charging time, the fast charge is to be implemented into the kernel . so wait for our developers to create a 64 bit CM12 kernel.
Hope this helps you
And third step install better battery stats, which helps to find wake locks. Find it and disable the service which keeps the device awake through 'disable service' app.

1st of all i updated my yureka to lollipop officially and through cwm, so i can't say much. However the heating issue rather wasn't much of a problem as it happened to me once or twice in a day after heavy usage for the entire day(yes i am addicted to my phone ). Battery as you have said is draining indeed too but i think you're battery is the problem, i can use from 100% to 16% in 7 hrs. Slow charging is indeed a problem. However for both kitkat and lollipop it takes the same time for me more or less. Continuing the lollipop update is giving me no lag as of now whatsoever. Yes far more improvements are required, but blaming i doubt will solve anything.

CM11 is 32-bit
CM12 is 64-bit
Bottomline: Rollback is not possible.
DON'T TRY FLASHING CYANOGENMOD 11, YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!
are you update manually or by OTA???
I am also facing exact same issues (100% exact) as mentioned by the OP.
My phone was working very well on KitKat but now having issues
So, we do not have option to go back to CM11
Working fine
My yureka is working fine after update, sometime only 2% battery drain after whole night. Alway wipe cache and dalvik after flashing any update and restrict background processes to 2 processes at a time instead of standrad limit.

No.
You shifted from a 32-bit CM11S version to a 64-bit CM12S version.
Moreover, you shifted from Dalvik to ART.
Go to recovery, do a wipe [Dalvik cache and cache]
Reboot. Optimise the apps.
Reboot again [just to be sure]
WAIT for a while.
And all the problems will be gone. I know cause the lags and heating issues were there for me too and a wipe fixed it for me.
EDIT: I AM NOT CONSIDERING THE CHARGING TIME, SINCE I HAVE A FASTCHARGE ENABLED KERNEL.

I wish u could be little humble and less rude. OTA Update usually would automatically Cleans all caches I suppose..

Sorry about the first line. I don't mean to be rude.
And no, the cache isn't cleared properly. And OTA updates are almost similar to dirty flashes.
Dalvik cache is automatically cleared [cache, not necesasrily] during update for complete app optimization for ART. Otherwise heating, lags, and longer boot-up times WILL be experienced.

WILL can be replaced with MAY. For instance, I myself forget to clear Cache after applying OTA on Yureka but everything worked Great, as it did for many. For some, It may not have worked it seems.
But, Clearing caches isn't always for Good. A Month ago, I wanted to help a friend with Karbonn "Android one" phone, to update from Kitkat to Lollipop via Offical OTA. What I did was sideload OTA .zip file and then cleared the caches. Everything seemed Okay after optimizing apps dialogue, but something -ve happened due to that. Clearing caches cleared phones IMEI no, phone serial no, etc prevented me to connect to WiFi or 2g/3g towers. Wiping User data solved things, but still that extra one step cost-ed me lot of frustration and time. (Just wanted to share my experience.. )

Yes I edited my reply as needed.
I faced a few issues myself and on research I found out my flash wasn't complete

DON'T TRY FLASHING CYANOGENMOD 11, YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!

Update destroys battery life?

Hi all...
So, I think I may have gotten the latest update last night, and I think it may have broken all sorts of things. My battery is draining faster than my wireless charger can actually charge it (which has never happened before), and I can't seem to install apps from Google Play. It's super awesome.
My friend with the same phone seems to be experiencing similar problems, and I was just wondering if anyone here was too?
Update: I just plugged my phone into Smart Switch, and it found an update . . . soooo, I don't think that getting an update last night was the problem. I'm running the update now and we'll see if that solves the issue.
I do experience battery drain. This phone battery life gets worse and worse each update. Screw this 3600mah

It's the latest Oculus update. Freeze it or uninstall until fixed. Oculus home is trying to install over and over again.

I'm thinking is the oculus update as well because my lookout continues to scan oculus rooms every 2 mins. It's just a weird coincidence that it happened about the same time as the update though. I'm having severe battery drain, texts and mms not being sent or received sometimes, and generally laggy overall.

Oh man, thank you! The battery drain is being reported as "Android System" which is no help at all. I'll give the Occulus thing a try
Mine is draining from the latest good lock update

Since updating this morning my phone runs hot and the battery drains 35% an hour. Charging is slow and phone has tons of lag. Worst device performance i've had since i ran ICS on my HTC G2
I'm wondering if using adoptable storage is causing it. I'm actually backing up and attempting a factory reset in a bit. My device is not rooted. Never even attempted root on my S7E.
Mine is smoother than ever. But im carefully looking at the battery and it seems to be draining faster. I have to look at oculus. But it doesnt seem i have that install
My phone has the same problem. Lookout is scanning Oculus Rooms two or three times a minute. So, is it an Oculus problem or a Lookout problem?
What baseband version you guys got?
I flashed my phone from sammy mobile (on the 28th i believe) dated 9/21 and security patch dated 9/1 and seems to be working much better than it was prior. Phone was getting hot and now it has not at all. on 2nd day right now. I still having used my wireless charge though.
I had the same issue. I was having extreme lag, overheating, battery drain(54% drain in less than two hours and it was in my pocket) and the screen kept refreshing every few seconds. All my apps were basically affected. The worst was snapchat and the keyboard. I saw the post on reddit about oculus being the problem. I uninstalled all the oculus and gear vr apps that could be unistalled and disabled the rest. My phone is working perfectly now.
It was the Oculus update. They (Oculus? ) pushed a fix out and now it's corrected. Confusing for users of Good Lock, because the Oculus problem happened the same night as the 9-29 Good Lock update, which was also very buggy. Uninstalling the 9-29 Good lock did not fix the problem though. All better now thanks to the Oculus Home update. I believe Good Lock was also fixed with the 9-30 update. I haven't gotten the OTA software update yet (PIA).
Woke up this morning and my battery was down 40%, rebooted which is recommended anyway everything mellowed out, charged my phone back to 100% have over 4 hours of screen time with 47% left. I disabled lookout because it's always scanning and running chewing up battery. I have no idea what Oculus is. Duh on me I guess

Moto x force lags

Hello,
I have a stock Moto X force for about 20 months.
I've been suffering from lagging lately (sometimes it takes a few seconds when trying to switch between apps or the keyboard becomes unresponsive). I think it got worse after the 7.0 update.
I've downloaded an app for system monitoring and I've noticed that at times of lag the internal disk activity is maxed (Read & Write are 100% (not sure exactly what that means)) (Can't add attachments). But, cpu performance and ram usage seems fine. I assume some app is causing this but have no suspects at the moment. How should I continue my debug from here ?
Thanks
Hello Juvesss,
Exactly the same phone with the same problem since one week ago... If you solved it please explain me, this is a pain!
No OS upgrade was involved in my case, I have Nougat since a long ago.
Cache wipe did not help. Limiting background processes to 3 helped just a little (developer menu).

I've been noticing this problem too.
Not sure what the cause is.
I've factory reset and that seems to fix the problem for awhile, but it seems to come back over time.
Something in the stock rom must be cluttering the phone.
Dear roweboat56,
It happened to me after 12 months of having it, so for my experience it is not so frequent. How often happened it to you? (To understand better how long will I "enjoy" the factory reset solution...)
Move to a custom rom!
I faced that issue too! The last update was buggy maybe..and the moto services and rest apps by moto are eating a lot of ram and using a good amount of I/O
.
Try this rom by me (on the latest 7.1.2 build with 5th February 2018 security patch)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo-2/general/lineageos-14-1-build-7-1-2-heating-t3757565
Change battery profile to power save, and see the magic
No heating at all!

Hm I noticed after maybe 2 months of use or so?
Im on Latest Stock FW Android N ,using the device since 8months and not find any lag, in my case it lacks a bit when heated a lot.
I didnt disable any of the Moto Services though.
Try using Greenify if it solves the issue. I will not unlock my phone till it gets 14-15month old and see whether the same happens to me
It is strange... In my case the phenomenon suddenly disappeared some weeks ago, so I think some system update messed it all and later another update solved it. I have the impression it was a system problem and not a particular app, because I tried to uninstall the more suspicious apps without appreciating any change.
