Samsung tab A 9.7 SM-P 555 hard/soft bricked - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

Hello everyone, yesterday i was trying to create swap memory for my rooted tablet using sd card.
I completed three partitions successfully fat32,ext3 and swap.
Then i installed busybox and used swapper...checked the option to create swap at bootup in swapper.
Everything was running well until i rebooted my tablet
It just crashed, now the tablet wont go in download mode nor does it shows the charging icon even if plugged for 4-5 hours.
I had purchased it in new Zealand so the warranty is not covered in india.service centre is not able to repair it even if i pay becuse they dont have the rom and spare parts for this model.I told them i have the rom they still dont agree. Is this a hardware problem or software issue ?
The only option for me would be to courier it to nz and then it would cost me 10000 rs in total..can anyone help me out.many of the repair personnel said they could do it for 3000 rs but i have this strong feeling that they would replace the original parts with fake chinese one even if they are in working condition.
If any one can give me a working procedure step by step and i am able to get my tab to work,i will be really thankful and gift 3000 rs in his/her bank account.
Tab is 9.7 spen Lte version
Thank-you

Take the card out. Ensure the device is plugged in to mains. Hold POWER + VOL DOWN + HOME until the device restarts and you see download mode.
Reflash the stock firmware.

Maybe a bit longer.
If still no response then you may have to disconnect and reconnect the battery.
Are you sure you didn't format the internal storage? How did you format.
Also you didn't answer my query about Windows.

I can not find anything you asked about windows ..i used mini tool parition to create partitions on sd card using windows 7...i am sure i didnt format the internal storage...

I could've sworn I asked if windows detected the device, but can't see it? [emoji54]
Also you're saying the device crashed. Are you certain it didn't actually just die because the battery was depleted?
I would certainly be trying a different mains charger before condemning the tablet.

Then it seems your last option is to remove the battery.

I have removed the battery and plugged it again with chipset ..i am taking about the plug that you see with four wires when you remove the back cover.

You can't flash anything until you can access download mode. You can only access download mode using the 3 button combo.

Is there a way to reinstall the download mode?

Samsung Omnia i900 SD Download Mode

I broke my phone (radio rom) while trying to flash my dear Samsung Omnia i900 using GrandPrix. The full story can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418917
Here is the latest help I receive from chaimd:
The other way, I found strings of "phone.bin" or "SD download Mode" in eboot.bin.
I think you can try below;
1. copy i900DXHG4_phone.bin into a microSD as "phone.bin"
2. set the microSD and power on your OMNIA
you can try with microSD format FAT16 or FAT32.
And perhaps, entering SD download Mode need some key combination with POWER key.
Good Luck

I will try this out. Does anyone know how to enter the SD download mode?
10x for this
i try format fat 32 sd card i copy phone.bin and try some key combinations my omnia power buton light blu green and red but noting. How to setup in menu my phone boot whit mmc?
this is help as?
To boot from a program, create a folder entitled "MCSTART" which contain a programme call "AUTORUN.EXE". When you insert card, windows will copy executable and launch it with parameter "install" (and when you remove it, windows relaunch app with "unsinstall parameter")
So maybe you can create an executable that launch ROM update
NO you do not need autorun, bootloader should exevute the flash from SD but i am unaware of the key combination
Bootloader

Thats were there is a little problem in the Omnia the boot loader mode is automatic. When your device starts up and you see the Samsung Omnia logo this is bootloader mode. If no request is made to to the system to enter bootloader the normal startup proceeds. This is why when you flash from Grandprix you have to press detect first then restart. The detect sends a command to go into bootloader mode.

That's why I think the solution to Samsung Omnia i900 SD Download Mode is to find a program that will activate it from Windows.
Anyone have better idea?
hello
My omnia is 5 days in service center but not alive. any progress for repair the phone part ? i have 2 x i900 one is work and one only pda i try metod phone to phone but not work.
I have the same problem. I tried to download HH1 rom, i followed the steps and the procedure went successfuly with any error, screen say job done. then my phone wont power on again.

anybody have more details of i900 SD Download Mode and how to use it?
will it recover the bricked phone? my phone wont power on now.
So, does anyone have idea?
Hmmm. Yesterday I kill 2 pcs I900 Omnia with GrandPrix 1.8.1 trying to flash with HH1 version (only PDA part), but after that I flash them with old version (HG3), and everything looks ok. I think if You do not kill the boot sector, you should bring your phone to live. And one more. NEVER try to flash bootloader in phones like this, because there is no solution to restore it!! It's this same problem like qualcomm phone series. No TestPoint, no solution, at now.
how can you flash it again it the power cant turn on? the main problem now is the power cant turn on. any ideas?

I think there is no solution to our bricked omnia's but to send them to Samsung Service centers. If warranty covers it, it will cost $150 or so for shipping. Losing $150 is better than $700. Once I get it fixed, I will sell mine and won't get it again. If a firmware update caused this issue, I cannot rely it as the device of my choice. I have not even used any tricky methods, just tried to update with its firmware and now in Monahan's. Sucks big time.
I contacted samsung US. they told me they will only support handsets manufactured in US. I also contacted samsung singapore, they told me that there is no warranty on exported handsets. warranty is only availiable to handsets purchased from local stored in asia countries. all handsets purchased online from europe, US, do not have warranty, so samsung will not support those.
I am so disappointed with samsung. there are people all round the world purchase products from ebay and online stores, samsung do not provide services for them. this is a big problem.
I will say, can we all complain to Samsung? may be see some light? may be i am too silly.... If we don't try... we do not know the answer; Right?

OK, here is time for report what I've done so far.
Firstly, THERE IS a function to download from SD card, but at this moment, there is only 1 way to activate this function, have to be done through telnet from JTAG.
People have MONAHANS is problem with PDA bootloader (PXA312) , then PHONE problem is related to Qualcomm bootloader.
Secondly, there is some functions that I tried on PXA312
sys.cpu PXA310
sys.JtagClock 10MHz
sys.option WAITRESET On
sys.up
data.set 0x40e10414 %long 0x00001841
after this, it will bring you control of MONAHANS

Start calm.
All you need is a cool mind now.
Search for the USB JIGGS available on xda and see if someone from your area has it. You can then take help from that person. If not then just go to service center, tell them that it stuck like this while doing software update and act like you no nothing about rooting our flashing. That will do.

The last 'n' only hope left is this:-
Install ur phone specific driver on pc.
1. Take out battery, sim & sd card.
2. Open odin.exe on pc.
3. After this, connect the phone via USB cable to PC(yes! without battery, sim & sd card)
4. Press the download mode combo keys.
5. While keep pressing all those keys, insert the battery now.
6. Now, odin should detect ur phone so that u may get it updated with stock firmware.
And if this also doesn't work, then bro u might have lost it at all

Removing USB connection while flashing

Hi all,
I have a serious problem with my G2 which I could not solve: I used the new LG Flash Tool 2014 with stock KDZ file, everything was going just fine till I received an error message that LG server is not available, I disconnected the USB cable by mistake from my G2 and afterward I saw that it was in the middle of flashing process (12% was completed). I turned it off and tried to reach download mode again and nothing!, I'm receiving the "LG" logo and nothing- the screen goes black (it is still on).
I tried also to connect my phone to the computer- I received a list of 13 "new" local disks "H" to "T", only "H" disk is available and it's showing "image" folder with list of files.
I cannot reach "download mode", nothing is working!
I hope this is not the end for my G2..
please help me
Thank you so much!
If you could receive all those hard disks then you could maybe fix it with linux/ubuntu if you have it. Search for guides to cOpy the neccesary stuff bacK like the bootloader. I can't really help you atm as i am too sleepy.

Thank you for your reply. I found this on the sticky threads: "[FIX] NO Recovery mode, No download mode, after OTA on rooted LG G2".
I installed ubuntu and followed the instructions. when I type the following: "gdisk -l /dev/sde" I receive an error message:
"GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.5.1
NOTE: Write test failed with error number 13. It will be impossible to save
changes to this disk's partition table!
Problem opening /dev/sde for reading! Error is 13
You must run this program as root or use sudo!"
My device is not rooted, is this the problem?
Please help me!!
Thanks
@NNCa It says you need to run the program as root on ubuntu.
Just use sudo in front of the commands.
You need to type once your password to use sudo, you can't see the password if you enter it for safety I guess but just click enter after you typed ykur password.

Hi,
I powered off my phone by pressing volume down + power for a while ("LG" logo blinked once and phone was fully powered off).
I pushed volume down + power till I saw the LG logo, released it, and pushed again- and finally I reached the Factory Hard Reset screen. I have pushed 3 times the power, and I have got "Factory reset processing..." and nothing is appeared, even when I'm pushing several times on power again.
I guess this is the end of my G2 :crying:
Thank you all for your support, this is an excellent forum!:good::good:

Nope it isn't the end try to install the recovery again or try to push the custom twrp recovery again to the right partition! Dont give up that fast when i hear your things then its still fixable! you already got the factory reset processing so try to Push the Recovery again and search for an guide about recovery maybe Then you would probably get your device fixed.
Just read my things about simplicity so think easy and you can fix it. AND STAY POSITIVE You will repair your phone today :good:

Hi, sorry to say but you have unfortunately completely hardbricked your device. It happened to me too however I was able to get it replaced under warranty at no extra cost.
What happened was that when your phone was still detected by linux, you had a chance to recover by flashing the correct partitions to gain access to download mode and from there, flash a KDZ to go back to complete stock. However, the files you used were probably incompatible with your variant which has now corrupted your bootloader sequence. I suggest you read this reply by fizzy177 as well as the rest of the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51522304&postcount=118
So right now, you cannot do anything as you have already found out, no computer will recognise that your phone is plugged in. Your phone fails to boot when you try enter the download mode and it just freezes on the splash screen which looks like this: http://www.lg-phones.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/image2.png
What's meant to happen is your phone should load past that initial splash screen into this http://www.androiddunya.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/LG-G2-DownloadMode.jpg which accepts KDZ flashing and warns the device has been rooted.
So it's a blessing that your phone cannot boot as LG cannot find out you have voided warranty and you will be able to get a replacement free of charge.
Issue was solved- device was fixed under warranty
Hi,
I just want to update you all that my device was fixed under warranty! (motherboard replacement)
Thank you all for help and great support, this is a great forum with great community :good::good:
Hello
From past 2 weeks i am wondering on internet for a solution . Hours and hours of surfing and articles but still
Hope some one solve this issue.
Okay. First i m using LG G2 F320 K update to lollipop . Non rooted. It was working fine . I can transfer files in MTP .
But about a month ago i get an update for my phone . And after some days i need to transfer some files to my phone , i wonder when i connected my phone to computer nothing happened . No notification on mobile for changing PTP MTP option . Also nothing happened in Computer device manager..
From that day i am unable to connect my phone with windows 10. It always charging mobile.
I uninstalled all drivers in device manager and installed from LG website. I updates windows N and NK MTP update from windows for windows 10.
I changed different data cables and different computers and different ports . All stuff i can do. Still no luck.
When ever i plug USB data cable it always put my Mobile on Charging . No notification on Mobile. Also i go in setting > storage> and there is no option in upper right corner to select USB PC connection .
I am in developer mode and debugging mode is on also. Also USB tethering option is Disabled .
Kindly some one help me regarding this.
LG G2 F320K updated to stock Koren lollipop 5.0.1 . Non root.( i updated lollipop in April 2015)
Issue i am facing is no notification for Charging/ MTP/PTP Usb Debugging on mobile notice bar when i attach my phone using USB cord with computer. Also in computer device manager nothing happen. Even i checked on windows 10 , 8.1, 8, 7 .
I remember it was working like charm 4 weeks before I can change MTP PTP or Charge only mode by selecting notification when i attach it to my laptop. I can transfer files can use LG PC suit .
Then i received an software update like 40 mb and i updated my mobile. That i remembered.
After that 2 weeks before i need to transfer some books from laptop to my mobile. When i plugged my device there no notification to select MTP mode . Also there is nothing happened in my windows 10. I looked in task manager. No yellow icon in computer task manager for driver thing.
Laptop is just silent and mobile is just on charging .
Then i go to setting in LG and looked for USB PC connection settings. I wonder there is nothing . Settings > storage > 3 dot in upper right corner.. it suppose to be there . But here is no 3 dot in storage. Then i looked into share and networks in android setting and i found that USB tethering. But its faded mean it is disabled and i am unable to use this feature also.
I tried on different computers different cables , original, but nothing. Always when i plug usb mobile went on charging and in all computers nothing happen in device manager.
USB debugging is on.. I factory reset device 2 times. but useless. Also i uninstall all drivers from my laptop and then reinstall drivers from LG website also i tried google drivers , ABD, different ports. Nothing nothing happen.
Also now if i try put mobile on download mode by turning device off and then push + vol button and then put cord in mobile . No download mode also it went on charging. Well charging from laptop or from charger is okay.
Hope i explain all.

My Note 4 (910F) won't turn on!

Hey guys, so I flashed Kyubi ROM a few days ago, I used to use that for a loooong time, so I'm pretty sure it isn't the ROM, what I did notice was the last few weeks, every ROM I flashed was a bit laggy and glitchy (not sure if it has anything to do with that).
So anyways, I was at school, pulled my phone out of my pocket to see it has turned off, tried to turn it off again and nothing happened, I thought it was just a dead battery. But once I got home, I plugged it in the charger, but the battery indicator didn't pop up. I googled for some stuff, tried a lot of ''fixes'', but nothing seems to work. I tried putting in a different battery, tried different chargers, but nothing seems to work.
Does anyone have any idea why this isn't working? This is very frustrating..
TLDR; Phone doesn't turn on, tried different batteries, chargers, nothing helps.

If you want your phone to boot by debrick image then you must write debrick image using win32 disk image software in pc to microsd card minimum 8gb capacity and will you also require qualcomm usb drivers install on pc. or it will not work. Are you able to go in download mode ?

Thanks again brother and ill keep you up to date!
Gonna have to do it with a sh*tty s3 mini until then (my moms ols phone) but already rootd it and put cyanogenmod on it to make it somwhat... Fast

One more thing.. Here are the .SDC files for direct sdcard boot repair. So choose what sdc you need and try to flash.
The flash procedure is this:
1.Put the .SDC file to your sdcard (sdcard must be formated as FAT32 and must be SDHC max 16GB)
2.On the phone press VOLUME DOWN + HOME + POWER
3.If all is ok the phone will display SDCARD MODE and will try to flash the phone with the file provided to sdcard
4. IF the process went ok now you have to flash the phone with odin and stock rom.
If the phone didnt boot to SDCARD Mode you will need a USB JIG that you can buy from ebay or somewhere else...
I hope this help you.

but it didn't work, didn't boot to SD card mode or anything
then I saw a different method with flashing pit files and bootloader to sd card with T-flash in odin
so i tried that with my samsung galaxy s3 mini and it just did nothing when I pressed start
can someone please help me, or is my telephone fried for good?
Hey guys I'm sorry for the continuously bumping but... I tried like every single method. And there is one little bit of hope for me, that is that someone gets me the debrick.img which I can use..
but I don't have really much hope for that
still always open for help
I am desperate

pleaaase someone help me i beg u guys i really need my phone

no signs of life (no charging led, nothing on screen) after OTA update

So yesterday I got a notification for an OTA update (I'm on sprint). I am rooted, have xposed, and have twrp installed. Partly because of my stupidity and also just to see what would happen, I clicked download and install now. Now the phone doesn't show any signs of life, even after taking out the battery and trying to drain the capacitors by holding down power then putting the battery back in. Doesn't show up on my computer when plugged in, and doesn't have any power led when charging. I've tried 4 batteries with it (lol I have too many) and they all don't work. They were all charged with external anker chargers. I've tried with the sim card and sd card taken out, too.
So yeah, my phone is dead and I have no idea what to do. I'm pretty sure I'm out of warranty because it's been two years and I've modified it.

You might consider to have a look here if you didn't do it already mate : http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/note-4-debrick-img-t3488114
If you need the debrick.img for the sprint varient, I can give you that.
I thought OTA would not install, if you were rooted and had a custom recovery.

Hey, thanks for the help. I'm not sure how to check if my device is hard bricked? Is it normal for there to be no signs of life at all, not even power LED or vibrations? I can't get my phone to the download mode in order to show up in odin so I'm not sure how I would flash the unbrick file. When I plug my phone into my computer windows says that the device has malfunctioned and I can't find it in the device manager.

It's worth to try it i think. Some users got back their phones to life using this method. @RDChase is offering you a debrick.img for your variant. This method is using sdcard so no worries at the moment with Odin
Similar thing here, Sprint, TWRP, rooted, stock rom one of the early ones v4.4.4?!
Over last couple month it kept trying to update itself at night, very sneaky!!!! I have disabled auto-download and update BUT clearly it found a way around it, bastards!
It was in a reboot loop, extremely hot and buzzing, woke me up in the middle of night, I thought it going to burst in flames like Note 7!
So I pulled the battery out and left it out till morning, but now it no longer powers up, no LED, black screen, PC keeps saying USB drive malfunction and un-recognized, can't put it in recovery or download mode! Odin doesn't detect it also. PC device manager doesn't detect it either! Used volt meter to check both batteries both are fully charged up, but it doesn't show LED charging light?!?
Is there any way to un-brick it?
Again, I repeat phone does not power up and PC doesn't detect it!
Please help, if I can't un-brick it than I have few days until end of year to catch deal on upgrade to LG V20, hopefully it can be un-looked and rooted????
Edit: Just read online there is possibility that Note 8 is coming out either in April or Early August 2017!!!!!!
I need my Note 4 working again and last until new Note 8 comes out!

Will mounting De-Brick.img on sdcard even work if phone doesn't power on or go into download/recovery mode?
Yes. Instead of booting from internal memory, the cpu will boot from the external sdcard. Make sure you prepare it correctly however. The sdcard must be the 32GB+.
Take a look at this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2345860
Is is for the s3, I know... However, it's the same stuff happening.
This works on a soc level, not the bootloader level.

Removed, can't get it back either

hi. once you get it to boot from sd card and configure the phone how do you make it so it can boot normally without the need for the sd card?

:good: Thank you for debrick.img was looking for Sprint one everywhere!
Is it supposed to be 128mb or around 4Gb?
Debrick.img doesn't includes stock Rom, does it? If it does which version?
Next Steps:
1. Copy debrick.img to sdcard?
2. Put in sdcard + battery +press VolDown+Home+Power?
3. USB connect to PC + flash new Rom using Odin?
4. Root again?
Is this correct way to do it?
Has it worked for anyone?

I'm confused, I correctly mounted the image to the sd card and I put it on the phone with a fully charged battery, and tried booting into download mode thru home + volume down + power. it doesn't show anything on screen or any LEDS. it's connected to the computer but it says "usb device malfunctioned". Thanks for your help
I can't get into download mode even with the unbrick sd card in, I mounted it with win32DiskManager and everything. No charging LED or screen or vibration at all.
I installed qualcomm drivers and it shows up as "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008"
After some research looks like this is the only method that would solve my issue.. problem is that nobody has released the files needed to do this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/unbrick-samsung-galaxy-note-4-sm-n910w8-t3249970
Edit: Would a USB jig help me?
dead4ngel - to permanently fix it, just Odin the stock firmware
Others - I wasn't clear in how to prepare the SD card.
To prepare it properly you image the SD card with the debrick image file. This has to be on a 32+ GB SD card. (On a Linux machine where your in the folder with debrick-n910p.img is located and your SD card is /dev/sdx the command is dd if=debrick-n910p of=/dev/sdx)
You then put it in your phone, boot to download mode (it may take a few tries), then Odin a stock rom (PH1 or PK1 only) which MUST contain the bootloader
After this you don't need have the SD card be prepared like this, your bootloader will be fixed

:good: Again thanks a lot for debrick.img it worked, you saved my butt!
Here is what I did to make it come alive, it did take couple trial and errors on my part.
Warning DO NOT copy & paste image file directly onto sdcard, it wont work!
Instead use the diskimage win32 software that was mentioned in Debrick thread before.
I used it to unpack and write file from debrick.img onto 16GB sdcard (only one I have) using that little piece of software.
I plugged in sdcard + battery, than pressed power button and phone came back to LIVE:angel:
Now it is back in my original KitKat Rom v4.4.4 still booted from sdcard, I was able to transfer all my documents and photos to my PC, thank God!
Ps screen got very hot again while it tried to run another software update, I killed it with task manager and turned off Data+WiFi radios for now, until I re-Flash from Odin!
Now for next step to flash new ROM using Odin, do I have to flash original KitKat 4.4.4 or Lollipop 5.11 recovery or can I just flash stock Marshmallow 6.11?
Is there stock Sprint+rooted+De-Odexed Marshmallow 6.11 version I can safely flash?
Do I need to root again each new ROM?
pLz i want to update jn lollipop halp me
Sent from my Panasonic ELUGA Z using XDA Free mobile app
@RDChase One step forward two steps backward arhh!
Managed to put it into download mode + downloaded Marshmallow PK1
BUT still having issue with malfunctioning USB device "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)
I have installed Google & Samsung & Qualcomm drivers to no effect!
How do I fix it?
try differnt usb cords and/ports
unistall/reinstall samsung drivers
take a look at this
yes please !!!!
