New Bly R1 HD update, enables band 12 and VoLTE! - BLU R1 HD Guides, News, & Discussion

Updating my phone now, just got an over the air update. It says its version 7.4.2, 372.62 megs, and in the info section it says it includes Band 12, VoLTE, and security updates. For those on stock, you guys may want this, especially those on T-Mobile.

I just tried to update my stock phone and it says no update available.

I still haven't received an OTA update. Are you a stock BLU r1 HD or Amazon variant?
and is 7.4.2 Nougat? just asking because I would think the 7 would mean the version of android and Marshmallow is 6.

It appears it only provides the security patch, band 12 & VoLTE. Android remains at 6.0.

So I've noticed that when I'm at work on band 12 I have full bars on 4G LTE. However it keeps reverting to band 2 where I barley have a 4G LTE signal. Isn't it supposed to connect to the strongest signal automatically? I have to go into MTK and disable band 2 for it to connect to band 12.

still no update here~ and yes I would think it would work on the stronger/strongest singnal, but then again this is "new" on the BLU r1 HD and there could be some bugs.

The update completely messed up my phone. My R1 is a completely bone stock prime version phone. Over half of my apps disappeared, and play store is not working at all to reinstall them. I tried uninstalling updates to the playstore from system settings, but that isn't working either. I hope I don't have to do a factory reset and start all over.
Any ideas of what else I can try?

Nevermind. All of my apps that were on the SD card are what disappeared and wouldn't reinstall. As soon as I moved just one of the apps back to the system storage, the rest reappeared.

Stock phone. Got the update last night. Went well. Wireless Update is now v5.5. Is band 12 & VoLTE of any extra value on ATT?
Edit: Guess it can improve voice calls on the same network.

BTW, if you're on Airvoice like me, and maybe other MVNOs like H2O, you have to call and have LTE activated.

I tried updating many times Everytime just reboots and sends me to twrp and i reboot and the update doesn't work. Fk.

Here's a link on it as well. Apologies for the late inclusion.

Prime/non-Prime update
From what I've been able to gather, this update only applies to the Amazon Prime variants.
...and I literally just converted to the non-Prime ROM via ColtonDRG's guide. Now I'm stuck on v12 without VoLTE (what I really want/need) unless I go back to the Prime ROM I'm going to bed and hoping that this all gets sorted out sooner than later.

still cant get the update

VoLTE is a value for ATT also, not sure if Band 12 will help AT&T subscribers though unless they have some roaming agreements which is possible.
I am stock phone and still haven't received the update.

I was hoping an official update for V12 will be released but it seems BLU don't really care, while amazon is pushing needed updates.
I guess it will be time for me to convert my V12 to V7.4.2 when a safe, clean and open method is available.

Xperia Z5 -> Three UK VOLTE

Now that Three UK has officially declared support for 800Mhz VOLTE on the Xperia Z5 I was wondering if anybody tried connecting to 800Mhz frequency.
I have got a EE sourced Z5 and I wonder whether it will connect to 800Mhz if I fash it with Three software.
If you flash it, possibly. There's no harm in flashing to find out and flashing back if you aren't satisfied.

Sounds like you're just in a bad coverage area, but there might be a certificate required for VoLTE on 3 that isn't on the EE firmware, not sure how its implemented outside of the US

I don't know why you would need a factory data reset. But if you want to go ahead
Your phone should connect to the best band provided by your network by default, I don't think it's going to matter what European firmware you use. If you are on Three I would flash the Three firmware anyway so you can use VOLTE when it comes out.

Use the flashtool to automatically download the firmware for you.
It downloads and prepares the files for you to flash your Z5.

You will have to factory reset your phone because you will get a small system update from Three, which I think enables the 800Mhz network.
Not sure if it supports VOLTE but my phone doesn't show the VOLTE arrows but I have made calls while on 4G.
Or you can try to connect to the 800Mhz 4G network by going to a area where the 1800Mhz 4G signal is weaker.

below is the changelog:
http://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KB425950
Upgrade Device Software for the Motorola Nexus 6 (XT1103)
Instructions :
Update summary
Effective January 13, 2016 Motorola / Google released an Android (6.0.1) update for the Nexus 6 (XT1103) via a rolling Google Over the Air (GOTA) download. A Wi-Fi connection is not required.
What's changing?
OS upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow
https://www.android.com/versions/marshmallow-6-0/
Performance Improvements
What to expect after the update
Although there should be no impacts to settings or data, we recommend that you back up your media files to a PC or using a favorite application (from the Play Store), prior to upgrading the software.
How to update
Google will use a "slow roll" GOTA campaign that starts with 5% of the ELIGIBLE users on day one and ramps up availability to 100% by the end of the first week.
If a user checks for the update via settings before their device is eligible for the rolling GOTA campaign they will see the message that indicates the device software is currently up to date. Users cannot pull the update via Settings.
Once eligible and in Wi-Fi coverage, the download will take place automatically and the user will then prompted to install the update.
Upon receipt of the GOTA notification the customer should:
Ensure the device is sufficiently charged
Connect to Wi-Fi
Select "Install"
How to verify the update
Select Settings from application tray or pull down menu.
Select the More box in the top right corner
Select About Device.
The following information displays:
Software Version: MMB29K
Upgrade file size: 755MB

No sweat. Since I happened to be at my computer I was able to pull it. Link is in my other post.
started the upgrade and the stupid att intro screen tone is still ear shattering loud. how could they not fix that???
stuck on optimizing apps for the time being.
It's about time they did it. They literally skipped the entire 6.0 update. Felt sorry for att users lol.
My phone had been running fine but felt sluggish at times. This feels so much snappier. Not sure if it is the cache flush or the upgrade.... Or both. Either way it feels nice. Curious how the battery life is after a full day running it.
Anyone getting another OTA for MMB29S after receiving MMB29K?

Does this have the Dec or Jan security update? I have an unlocked Google version on AT&T. I was able to get the 6.0.1 and Dec security update before installing my ATT sim. No updates since even if I remove the SIM and stay on Wifi. Don't understand why I can't pull the Jan security update since I thought Google pushed those. I have a friend on 5X on ATT that has received it.
Only December update.
Good news is you can sideload the January update however!

A Marshmallow update should solve this as it uses Android's generic fingerprint API that supports 3rd party apps.
Will it support L-22 variant?
What is the current status of cyanogenmod development for our device ?
Please port Cyanogenmod for the KIW-L22 model as well.
All the 16/2 models should be supported eventually since they are almost the same. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Maybe I should switch to Mint instead of Ubuntu 14.04. Not sure why that would have such a huge impact on building, but it's worth a shot.
Well, I was able to build with the latest sources today!
Is anyone else having trouble downloading apps from Google Play over wifi? I tried wiping the cache for both Google Play and Google Framework but that didn't help.
Finally got CM12.1 built and installed.....................
I've attached a couple pics. I can confirm that dual sim functionality seems to work. I haven't tested it fully yet but can switch data/voice and sms between the two sims and l have sent txt messages and made phone calls with both. The one issue I see at the moment is that the number 2 sim defaults to 2g data and won't switch to lte.
I know this is possible with the stock huawei rom but it seems like cm12.1 only allows lte on the 1st sim slot.
**Update**
After a little more testing, I can get LTE or 3G on Sim 2 if I set Sim 1 to 2G. Only one sim on LTE or 3G at a time.

I used the full version of gapps. Although, I do have data via my sim, I was watching the traffic arrows during the install and they we're on the wifi icon so I assume they installed via wifi. let me turn on airplane mode and try to install something else.
* No issues installing apps from the play store via wifi with airplane mode on to disable cellular data. Just installed wink app

And congrats u did a great job , stock too supports LTE only on one sim and other on 2g .so it's common not an issue either .
Open gapps super, full and aroma versions are not allowing to sign up even on clean wipe on stock .
I flashed and tested all (tried getting enough space by removing previous gapps (not core gapps) ) .
The other one's , full ,mini , micro , nano and Pico are working better and the RAM usage by them is pretty good.

Band 12 after OTA Update!!!

Hopefully read it on the Android Authority Review

Band 12 is not a prereq for VoLTE. VoLTE works fine on band 4 too. VoLTE is a prereq for band 12 (officially speaking, you can enable it without it) so T-Mobile can comply with 911 regulations.

I just downloaded "MTK engineering mode start" from playstore and enabled band 12. seems to be working great on my stock oem build
BLU_R0011UU_V12_GENERIC
MTK engineering mode start does not require root. (it might require developer mode, not sure though that is the only thing I have done to the new stock rom I installed. and yes my phone is a amazon variant that I changed to stock variant by installing the stock rom.)

VoLTE(voice over LTE) is what people want, but there's a lot more to it than just enabling band 12. It also requires software and certification that Blu hasn't completed yet. So, while you may have band 12, you don't have voLTE. Blu says on their web site that a voLTE update will be available "shortly after launch".
There is a way to activate B12 on BLU R1 HD before the official update comes out. Please note that you will not have access to VoLTE services while you are on B12 with this device until the official support of B12 is enabled. This might affect your ability to receive and make calls and limit your access to E911 services if no GSM/UMTS coverage is available in the area. Only data services will be provided when there is no GSM/UMTS coverage available.
Can you please tell which bands were also available to be enabled except 12 ?
Thanks

Does your phone keep the band 12 after a reboot though? I've also gone into engineering mode via Gravity Box (Xposed module) and it enables the band 12 that way but after reboot it does not stay enabled.
I tried searching for a tasker command that could automatically run on bootup to enable band 12 but no luck yet..

If we got band12 with the OTA why isn't it enabled? Sorry, new to this. I'm not rooted because I made the mistake up updating when I got this phone in the mail yesterday.

We did NOT get a band 12 update with the OTA. That's why everyone was cautioned not to take the OTA because it locks up the phone and disables use of SP Flash Tools. So at this time, there is no way to root or flash a phone that took the 6.6 update.
There is apparently an update
Apparently it is happening. Though, my phone says, up to date, when I check (so, may be not for everyone). (I am new, so it does not let me post a link, but, just google "r1 hd volte" and look in news)

Switching to G935U firmware for good?

I was recently thinking to myself to flash Samsung's international firmware on my G935V. The phone's battery is terrible even in airplane mode and I think going to a non bloated ROM would be generally better. I did once have the international firmware but my phones screen started going weird and I flashed it back to the original. Of course it turned out to be a hardware issue and I got it replaced under warranty. Because this happened a day after I flashed the international firmware, I'm scared something similar might happen again. Do any of you guys run the international firmware on a daily basis on your Verizon edges? I was just wondering if it will be practical at all. Also for the one day I had the international firmware, the battery was definitely better without Verizon's crap on it. What do you guys think?
Been on the u firmware for a long time and I love it. However... If you're on Verizons most recent ota your bootloader is version 4 and you won't be able to flash the u firmware with out rooting it.

So what would happen if I tried flashing it through Odin like the old way?
Being on the U firmware the first time was great, but over time it's degraded for new. I'm only getting up to 2 hours of SOT by 50%, as opposed to 3. Not rooted either.
I'm thinking of going to do the PG5 Verizon firmware to see how things are.
Unfortunately it won't flash. The new bootloader will block what would potentionally be an older revision or a downgrade. Currently the u firmware bootloader is Rev. 2. Verizon managed to jump to Rev. 4 with its last update potentially screwing all stock users out of using a stock unlocked debloated firmware with free tethering.

Post a pic of your build version.
Excellent news. As of today the u firmware dropped an update which is on bootloader Rev 4. This is good for you guys wanting to switch and people on t mobile.

I just flashed the new 935U version this morning to my verizon variant. I was getting sub-par battery life on the verizon software so I am going to try this out for a bit. Keeping it unrooted the only thing I can't install is verizon visual voicemail. I have voLTE working but there is no option for wifi or video calling as with the verizon version. Seems to be much faster overall though.
Been using U firmware since June and no issues. Have already gone through 2 updates on U without problems.

How do you know if the VoLTE is working? I installed the latest 935U firmware and i never saw the VoLTE option. I saw it only when i flashed the "Samsung_G935x_QC_Rooted_BOOT.TAR" via ODIN when i was trying to root. I also want to keep the latest 935U firmware and as far as possible avoid root.
I have the toggle in settings and confirmed it by placing a call.

You get to see the toggle before rooting ? Without any other mods to the 935U firmware ?
