G930U Firmware - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

Ok so I have been seeing a bunch of stuff about the G930U firmware and I am trying to understand what the benefits of this firmware is. Also does everything work on this firmware, like volte, WiFi calling, HD calling video chat all the good stuff that the stock Verizon firmware has. Anyone who is on this firmware or has tried this please help me out here and one last thing is the Android Nougat beta test available for the 930U firmware
Thanks for the help in advance
Tony

Anybody have any information on this,,, please help out
Thanks

No carrier bloat ware. I'm on sprint, but you will lose any carrier specific apps. For example, our sprint app and sprint visual voice-mail do not work
Sent from my SM-G930U using XDA-Developers mobile app

That's not the only difference, there are subtle changes throughout the UI that I've noticed. I'm loving it so far.

Is there anyway to get any carrier apps to work like use My Verizon to pay my bill and also use WiFi calling and video chat do these things work or can they be made to work anyway

To my knowledge you can get those features, but you would need to root and edit the CSC file. I read that it worked for other people, but I have not tried it.

i have a g930v rooted with xposed, i just got all the firmwaRE FILES AP, CSC, BL etc.for g930U and flashed my phone and viola. oh i also used the vzw pit file, important part i presume. no problems so far. running fast, not heating up like it was. ill post if any problems arise. but so far so good.

His question is that, are you getting all the Verizon features with the U firmware. I know that you don't get them, as I have the G930U phone and they don't work.

Yes because I have a vzw sim, I still can use vzw features.

They mean like wifi calling, advanced calling my Verizon apps etc.

Wifi calling, my vzw, and all security and cloud features work.

That is still not true! I have the Verizon sim (you cannot have anything else!) and on my G930U those features don't exist.

Do I have to root my G930V device to put on G930U or can I just ODIN the G930U firmware onto the V firmware?

No root needed. The U firmware just needs to be the same bootloader or newer.

I recently flashed the G930U firmware and I am very happy with it. No carrier bloat. The battery life is much better and it does not get as hot.
The G930U firmware, unrooted, does have a setting to enable volte calling, but if it's working it's not quite as clear as the HD calling on VZW firmware.
The G93OU firmware, unrooted, does NOT support WiFi calling, Visual Voicemail, or HD video calling.
You can download My Verizon from Google Play and it will work just fine for data measurement/billing/support/whatever on the G930U.
I do not believe Nougat is available for the G930U firmware yet.
You do not need to root in order to flash G930U. You flash it via Odin.
From what I understand, you can root your phone after flashing the G930U using the same method as you would on the VZW firmware. If you root on G930U firmware you'll still end up with the same cruddy engineering kernel you would have if you were on the VZW firmware, so you'll still need to apply the "fix" files after rooting, but just use the one for generic firmwares. I'm not sure if root on G930U performs any better than on VZW firmware but my guess is it doesn't (and root performance on this phone is terrible).
I hope this helps clarify some things.
If jbevins9988 has actually figured a way to get wifi calling to work on the G93OU firmware without rooting it certainly would be nice if he'd share the details of how he enabled it.

7hrs 51minutes.
I was on the the phone almost the entire time (as you can see)
Was testing what I could get. If I had not have been on it the entire time it would have stretched and would have lost minimal screen on time.
This was also with terrible radio reception, at one bar.
That would have raised battery time aswell. Decently I would assume.

[Q] Unlocked, now a question about ROMs

Good afternoon. First, thanks to all the developers for all of the work that they do. I really appreciate it. On to my questions:
Using the unlock guide, I'm now using my Spring S4 with a Straight Talk At&t Sim card. I flashed the JFLTE GPE Rom back in February, if I'm not mistaken. I have even updated the ROM, using the OTA updater. Lately I was getting very choppy playback with any music player and I kept having a recurring issue with my network. I would have a pop up asking to sign into the At&t network. This only started happening with the latest update. But since I had this ROM for a while, I figured I'd try something else. I flashed the latest GAMER 5.1 ROM, specifically for the Sprint S4 (L720) and didn't get any network service at all. I thought I lost my unlock. So I flashed back to GPE got my service back. I was under the impression that I could flash any ROM because my phone was unlocked. My first question is, with my unlocked Sprint S4 using a Straight Talk At&t sim card, what ROMS can I flash and keep my unlock? I tried to flash a At&t ROM, but the flash fails and states that the ROM is only for JFLTEATT and that I have JFLTESPR.
Would this happen if I was trying to go to Lollipop 5.1.x from 5.0x? Do I need to stick with only Sprint ROMS?
Also after all this, when I went back to GPE, I can no longer send any texts. I have tried all of the Straight Talk APNs, but keep getting At&t error code 96 when attempting to send a message. Any ideas on what could be causing this issue?
This has been going on for about 4 days now. It's been that long because I have been reading and reading, trying to see what I did wrong, or what I need to do to fix it. Please help. If anyone wants to help, but needs more info, please ask and I will get back to you asap.
Have your tried a non-AOSP ROM? The stock ROM?

I have not tried either option. I didn't want to try an option (stock) that might take away the unlock because right now I'm limited to using my work laptop and cannot use anything that will need "administrator" privileges. I can't even run Odin without the system blocking it. I will try a non AOSP Rom when I get home tonight. Thanks for your help and I will get back with you.
Hey, I have updated the ROM to CM12 and go into the Phone Info menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and I see where it says LTE/CDMA and I can change it to LTE/WCDMA, which is what it was in the unlock sequence. It will show the service switch over to At&t (Straight Talk At&t sim) and even show my number. However this doesn't stick and it reverts back to LTE/CDMA showing the provider as Sprint. Is there a way to make it stick? What is causing this? Its as if it knows it's unlocked but can't hold onto it.....I will try a non AOSP ROM as soon as I can get to my laptop . May I ask why you think that would work? I'm not doubting you, I'm just asking because I'm curious and really wanna know what would be different.

AOSP ROMs are notorious for data problems. Touchwiz is what was made specifically for your phone, everything just works. I'm just saying that will be an easy way to see if the ROMs you are using are the problem. There are custom Touchwiz ROMs that pack a lot more punch than ugly old stock.... like mine- Wicked X

Ha! I swear I was just looking at your thread for your ROM. The exact same one! I noticed that tag/picture and was thinking, is that the guy who has been helping me? Maybe I should try that one. I'm dl'ing now. Thanks. I think I found out the problem or at least some type of solution., even though I still can't seem to send any messages. In the Mobile Network option, I changed the Preferred network type to Global. Then in that same Phone Menu option, the LTE/WCDMA option actually stuck. I have data and can make calls, just not able to send messages. This was with the official CM12 Rom for jfltespr. It wasn't working earlier on this Rom, so maybe there's hope. Like I said, I'm dl'ing your Rom now and will install in the morning. Thanks and I really appreciate this. I will let you know how this works out.
Yeah WCDMA is AT&T.
Just one tidbit.. You can't flash *any* rom because your phone is unlocked. VERY important you know this.. Unlocked has to do with carrier and your sim. Unlocked means you can use it on any network.
Roms are typically made specifically for certain phone models and their varients..
Just keep this in mind

Thanks for confirming this. I looked through quite a few pages on the Domestic Sim Unlock Thread to find where I asked that particular question and read quite a few pages afterwards but never saw a reply to my question. What's crazy is that I did see people who said they unlocked the L720 and said they flashed t-mobile Roms. I also recall that they were having quite a few issues with their service as well though. But when I tried to flash At&t roms, it stops during the flashing process and won't let me go any further.
Last night I downloaded quite a few rom (Sprint specific) and flashed them. After playing around with each, I was able to get data and calling, but my messaging is still not working. I've tried several different messaging apps (Google messenger, hangouts, Textra, Go SMS) and none are working. This leads me to believe this is a bigger issue. Is there anywhere that this feature might have been locked again, if that is even possible? Thanks for replying and all of your help. I appreciate it.

Helloo!
I tried to install your rim earlier and the flash kept failing. I'm going to try again when I get home. Couldn't figure out what I was doing and forgot what that Status 7 meant. All I remembered was that it wasn't good. I got it back to stock, no extra steps to get data and calls, but still no messages. No matter what app, apn, etc.
Edit: I've installed your Wicked Rom and it's beautiful!!!! Fresh, clean, and quick! There's one issue for me.........and I'm sure it's not your Rom, but I still can't send any SMS/MMS's. This is frustrating beyond almost any issue I have ever had with a phone.

Once again I was explaining the difference but yes there are certainly times where other varients Roms will work on different phones but has nothing to do with unlocked sims.. Just have to be careful and confirm it's ok first.. Sometimes need a custom kernel.. Usually phones that are really similar will work.. ie I'm on Canadian note4 but it's the Tmobile Roms that work (with kernel) or my old S3 it was AT&T Roms.. So may variables but nothing to do with unlocked or not

Thanks for the clarification. Let me ask you, could a kernel cause problems like this?
Also, I just saw in another thread that going to 5.1.1 would mess with voice, data, messaging possibly. But if this is what happened, why would this stay an issue after I changed Roms, but especially since I went all the way back to stock??? I know this is something that you may not be familiar with, just reaching and hoping that I can get some help with this issue. I'm banging my head against the wall trying to get text/mms back. !
[Solved]
Hey, I've solved the issue through a few steps. In the Phone Info menu (*#*#4636#*#*) I saw a bunch of things that I really didn't recognize. I Googled each one and eventually came to SMSC. When I hit update, I kept getting an error. When I hit refresh, it gave me "4", 129. After googling it and really updating it, I got my messaging back. I don't know, but it seems like going up to 5.1.1 really messed with some things for my phone. Thanks for your help everyone. I really appreciate it and I hope this may help out others who come across this same issue.

Best Note 5 port?

I see the Kyubi rom, de bloated Kyubi, light debloated Kyubi and others.
Which Note 5 ported Rom is the best right now? Most stable, less bugs etc. I see the Kyubi roms has bugs with the screen off memo app.
I also happen to like the Samsung apps and touchwiz so i would like to keep those too. Please like me to which one you think is best at the moment. My goal is to have a Note 5 experience that is as close to the original as possible. No custom skins features etc...
Thanks!

I dont know if it is available for Snapdragon verison.
I m using exynos
I´m using SIXPERIENCE Rom v2 and in my N910U and is AWESOME!!
Currently dn5 is only available for the N910C exynos variant. Best so far for the N910F is kyubi rom n5 v1. Bear in mind it is the first release so there may be a few small things to iron out with some updates but I've been running it and testing it all day and so far the only things I have found are very minor. It is smooth, has superb battery life and is a good solid rom. I do have the blue bars on the sides of the screen off memo however that doesn't bother me too much. It works as it should so why complain. Echoe rom is another option however I gave up using it after a day as there were too many bugs. Kyubi n5 v1 is the best I have found so far
I have n910w8. Looks like there is no rom compatible with this version. It's a Rogers phone and rogers hasn't updated past 5.0.1 and never will as per their page. All other Canadian carriers are on 5.1.1. I don't understand why samsung phone require 5.1.1 already installed to use a 5.1.1 rom... i thought the whole point of custom roms was to install version and updates outside the normal schedule. On my HTC One i was able to install the latest version of android even tho my carrier didnt have it yet.. why are samsung phones any different?
I looked everywhere online and cant find modem or bootloaders for 5.1.1 other than 910f which obviously failed to install on my devices. Im so bumed right now, i even voided my warranty by rooting just to find out my phone cant install any roms at all.

Been using kyubi since note 5 rom was uploaded and I have not found any bugs what so ever. No fc's. It's smooth and fast and very stable.

As long as it's the same phone, it should be safe to flash.
Manual Camera
in these roms, the note 5 camera allow to use it with pro features?
i want to use manual control with this camera
i know that stock camera apk haven't speed shutter, but with other app as "manual camera" or "Camera FV-5", it's possible to use all control (on samsung s6, s6 edge and i think note 5).
Thanks!

Yes it is safe to flash. All Canadian Note 4's are N910W8 and exactly the same except for carriers firmware is just a matter of the bloatware they individually pre-install, otherwise everything else is the same. I have a Rogers Note 4 now running the Bell 5.1.1 firmware and it works just fine. You can also change your phones CSC code to any of the other Canadian carriers no matter which firmware you have meaning they are all the same except for the bloatware.
I am also curious if the camera app has been ported. I could care less about the other stuff.
I actually going back to the note 4. I have a S6 now and can't stand the battery life. With the note 4 before I would get easy 4.5 hours screen on time and now with the s6 I get only 2.5 and that sucks.
But the camera app is much better.

[Guide] Cricket - Get Marshmallow! (6.0.1) - HTC 626s

Unfortunately, Cricket has apparently decided that our phone isn't worth an update. However, with a little knowledge, you can get it up and working in no time.
Thanks to @nightbreed813 for the original debloated MM ROM. Thanks also to @noaone for his tips. Without them, I'd still be on Lollipop.

Prerequisites:
You MUST have a custom recovery (preferably TWRP) installed. No ifs, ands or buts. If you don't currently meet this requirement, see this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-626/help/complete-detailed-step-step-root-t3217505
Easy method:
Download the modified zip from this post
Copy it to your device's internal storage
BACKUP YOUR CURRENT DATA. This should work, but you don't want to be caught off-guard. DO IT!
Remove the SIM card. Keep it removed until you have completed the setup process. Replacing it before then will screw Android up, and you'll have to reflash.
Wipe System, Data, DALVIK & Cache
Flash the file you downloaded from this post.
Reboot your phone and wait for it to start the setup process.
Bypassed hands-free activation. Tap 'Done' in Self Service and accept that there wasn't a network to register to.
You can reinsert your SD Card at this point. Cricket will now set the network up for you.
.
You should be done now. Enjoy Marshmallow.
Manual method (Long):
Download a zip from nightbreed813's post.
Open the zip (preferably with Windows File Explorer), and, without extracting, navigate to \META-INF\com\google\android\
Open updater-script with a text editor, preferably Notepad++
Change the first 2 lines to
HTML:
#ASSERT
unmount("/system");
, replacing what's there.
Save, and let Windows recompile the zip
This zip should now flash on your phone. Follow the Easy Method instructions (excluding step 1) to install.

Hi, thank you for providing the instuctions. I flashed the rom to my 626. Unfortunately I'm not able to connect to LTE on GSM band. I guess this is because it is a Sprint Rom that's designed for CDMA network technology ?

I see no reason why it shouldn't; Cricket is on AT&T's network. Still, make a TWRP backup just in case it doesn't work out, for whatever reason.

No, as long as you have a 626s on Cricket, it should work. (Besides, I think Cricket is running on CDMA anyhow, though I might be mistaken.)

It's actually a 625 from Cricket that I'm using but it's considered to be the same as the 626. Cricket is using ATT's GSM network. I really hope I can enable LTE connectivity.

Well, that's probably what your problem is. After following the instruction outlined in the post (on my HTC Desire 626s), I've not encountered this. If everything else is the same beyond that, it's the only option.
PLEASE check that you've followed the instructions perfectly, especially steps 4 &8.
If you're 100% sure that you have, it may just be that the 625 on Cricket is somehow incompatible here.
At any rate, I can only help with what I have, and I have a 626s. If the exact same methods that work with my 626s aren't working on your 625, I can't do too much. Sorry...
If I can help anyway otherwise, let me know.

I used a Cricket 625 with the 626 ROM. Worked fine with the AT&T (StraightTalk) SIM.
A word of caution: this phone has very little room for much of anything. The stock ROM completely fills up the phone after all of the updates download (under Lollipop). This ROM gives you a bit of extra room, but not much.
I'm very happy with my no-ad Moto G5+ from Amazon. At $219, it's an incredible value. The bootloader is unlockable, and it's fairly "current" with nougat on the phone. Oreo is already in the pipe, and you can always switch to more custom ROMs after the Oreo updates quit coming.
With all of security issues plaguing phone users, old phones that can't keep reasonably current need to gracefully fade away.
como consigo desabilitar simlock que ahora me dice que esta habilitada y no tengo red ni datos ahora tengo el 626s

Exactly the reason why I would like to run Android 6 on this phone so I can use adoptive storage
I also have trouble opening the APN settings after flashing this rom. Most of the times the phone shows me this "Select your carrier" screen. When I select my carrier (Telfort), internet works but after a reboot I have to choose my APN again. Anyone knows how to get rid of these preset apn settings ? (I tried these instructions for editing the build.prop to get full access to the APN settings. All suggestions are welcome, thank in advance !
I think I used a ROM called "AdvancedStock626_V5.zip". It's a bare-bones ROM, and I was able to manually set the APN.
You have unlocked your phone, right?

Yes, the phone 's bootloader is unlocked. I assume you mean this rom:
Is that Lollipop or Marshmallow ?

Don't see why that should be an issue since LTE it working flawless on my Desire 625 with stock 5.1 from Cricket ROM.

Whoops! I was wrong on which I flashed. My apologies....
I couldn't get the Advanced stock to "recover" with TWRP. Instead, I installed the debloated Sprint_Stock_MMDB from this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/de...-flashable-stock-htc-626s-debloated-t3293602/
I had LTE, or at least I thought I did. Everything seemed to work with my StraightTalk (AT&T) SIM.
Maybe this Sprint Rom doesn't support European LTE frequencie, I bought this 625 phone from Cricket last year when I was in the States. I see that I'm 3.5G now which is fine by me. One thing that concerns me is that the data roaming icon is greyed out. I'm flying to another EU country next week, does this mean I don't have internet abroad? I modified ro.com.android.dataroaming=false in build.prop into true, still can't select data roaming. Anyone know how to fix this ? Appreciate all the help!

Root, Recovery & Roms, Guide & Info

Hello all,
This post will contain most information regarding Root Recovery & Custom Roms for the Samsung Galaxy s10 5G.
Disclaimers:
1 - This WILL TRIP KNOX 99.9% of the time. Once knox is tripped it cannot be untripped. Once knox is trio certain apps and features such as Secure Folder, Work Profile, Samsung Pay and more will either; NOT WORK without a workaround or WILL NEVER WORK AGAIN.
2 - Once knox is tripped YOU WILL MORE THEN LIKELY LOSE WARRANTY ON YOUT DEVICE. Some countries require companies to have limited warranty on devices despite software status. Google is your friend.
3 - I and any other developer ISN'T RESPONSIBLE with any bricks or mishaps due to user error. If you find a bug report it to the developer. Nor I or Developer offer 100% Guarantee that your process will be smooth and while most software including magisk, TWRP and Custom Roms are developers and tested, unknown bugs can appear. You have been warned.
4 - This guide is for EXYNOS VARIENT MODELS ONLY. Most snapdragon variants contain locked bootloaders which currently doesn't allow custom firmware including root to work. Some snapdragon models do have an unlocked bootloaders but no method of achieving root, recovery or a custom Rom has been disclosed. This warning will be removed if a safe method appears.
Root (Magisk):
Achieving root is exactly the same process as achieving root for the Samsung Galaxy S10/+/e.
So follow johntopwu's guide CAREFULLY.
https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#samsung-system-as-root
Recovery (TWRP):
Recoveries are build for each device separately and are not universal amount most devices. While a recovery for one device may work on another, it is not recommended as unforseen bugs can occur and you can softbrick your device by using a recovery built for another device. Currently TWRP is unmaintained, meaning no one officially updates it. Currently Ianmacd unofficially updates it if and when he has spare time, Don't annoy him over it. The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G kernel releases later then the Samsung Galaxy S10/+/e, meaning the S10/+/e will be updated the latest version before the S10 5G. This is out of any developers hands as we rely on Samung Releasing the kernel source in order to update TWRP.
Same rules apply, Follow CAREFULLY and select the correct TWRP for your device. Read and make sure you understand everything before proceeding.

Root will work for any exynos varient of S10 5G. My personal model is SM-G977B, but root should work as long as your device is exynos and NOT SNAPDRAGON 855. As for recovery, Other device models such as SM-G977N (I believe it is) should work, but I have no evidence stating it does or doesn't work so proceed with caution.

Hi , It seems that you have attained root on the Sprint Snapdragon phone. It is great that you have accomplished this. MarshiMello's given steps are for Exynos phones. Can you please provide more details on how you have achieved root on the Sprint (Snapdragon) phone. Is there a rooted firmware available for the Sprint phone? Could you please provide links to the rooted firmware ?
Thank you !
Hi @MarshiMello ,
I was wondering if a rooted firmware is now available for the Sprint Samsung S10 5G phone with the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset ? May I please know if there is any work underway to root this phone, and if yes may I know by when we can be expecting an update in this regards ? I really need to root the phone for my work, and would really appreciate any assistance ! Thank you !
Also it is great to see that you managed to root the Exynos version of the S10 5G phones !

Bootloader is unlocked on certain snapdragon models, So root is theoretically possible. I haven't had experience with these models and cannot provide support on them. But if I do find a willing tester I can see if the default method for exynos works for snapdragon and will update the guide based on these findings.
Oh okay cool, thanks. Hopefully root can be achieved on my phone one day. It was so much easier back in the jelly bean and kit kat days.

SM-G975U s10+ verizon - your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware

Hi folks,
I've been facing issues while trying to upgrade my android version through verizon. I keep getting this message: "verizon error message your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware".
I'm attaching a screenshot with my device info for the experts to interpret. i'm not sure what needs to be installed to get regular updates on my phone. any guidance is really appreciated. thank you in advance.
Note: i have read about restoring to stock firmware using odin, if someone can guide me to the right thread that would help as well.

They absolutely DO allow online firmware downloads. Their firmware is posted everywhere, on tons of firmware websites. So I'm not sure why you would say that it's not.
@Samallos you're getting that message because your Baseband doesn't match your Build Number. So I'm guessing that either you or possibly a previous owner paid a 3rd party business to do some type of unlock or repair on it. You can fix the error by either Odin flashing (in the CP slot) the file that I'll attach here or 2) downloading the entire firmware package of the version that you want to be on, and flash that in Odin

Who said anything about Samsung Firmware? Verizon Firmware is what I specifically mentioned. These links do not point to Verizon Firmware because Verizon DOESN'T ALLOW IT! Samallos won't be able to update Verizon Firmware because the device is branded by a different Service Provider, CCT which is Comcast. He can keep the Verizon SIM in the device as the Active CSC and use it for basic functions but won't have all features like Carrier Aggregation and 5G. If he takes it to a Verizon Service Center, maybe but not likely. SM-G975U1 is Unbranded Samsung Firmware for Unlocked Devices, it won't ever update Verizon Firmware since it's not Verizon Firmware. If he wants to update the device he needs to insert a Comcast SIM to receive the update. The only other option since it a Multi-CSC Device (OYN) is change the CSC to VZW by entering the following code on the TouchPad. *#272*YOURIMEINUMBER# Select VZN then install. It's a Longshot but it MIGHT do the trick.
