Note 3 car bluetooth issues - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Kenwood excelon DDX793 radio with BT audio and phone. Two problems:
- I experience stuttering while playing music, and sometimes it's so bad that the music app crashes.
- I can't hear anyone nor can they hear me when I make or receive a phone call. It does show an incoming call and I can make an outgoing call from the radio, but anything audio related, forget it. If I do talk loudly next to the microphone, while listening to my land line phone, I do hear a very low pitched sound. Picture and old Walkman cassette player running out of batteries.
I've searched on the net, but I couldn't find anything really useful, or I might be using the wrong wording.
It's a Note 3 SM-N900W8, factory unlocked. I did not try the stock ROM , as I went straight to rooting it and using a custom ROM. I've tried two stable ROMs, but both do the exact same thing. Could I be missing out on a firmware update?
I've tried safe mode, factory resets, different ROMs, as mentioned above, but no changes. I can live with a bit of stutter, but if I can't hear the other individual at the other end, that's a huge problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

Got it fixed. Used a stock Lollipop ROM and it resolved the BT issues. Now it's my hot keys that don't work. Oh this is rich...

Crackling in voice calls

I know that other posts on this topic exist, but I've done a bit of digging and believe the problem doesn't lie with the speakers, so hence, new post. Sorry it's so long...
I've had my HD2 a week now and have noticed the same problem as some others here (it's the crackling during calls, it's driving me nuts, even on the lowest volume setting). But something about the "quality" of the distortion got me thinking (ie it didn't sound quite like what I would expect from a speaker taken beyond its capabilities).
I therefore tried a few different things to try and see where the problem was:
First I needed to identify if this was source related, therefore I tried playing different things through the earpiece. I downloaded audioroute from xda (I forget where) and tried routing all sorts of things through the earpiece. I tried music, skype, video and normal voice calls and the only one that caused crackling appeared to be the normal voice calls. I made sure my sources were loud enough to rival the loud calls, but no matter how hard I tried, it was only the calls that caused crackling (at least the type that was p****** me off)!
Next I tried to see if it mattered which output I routed the sound through. I tried the earpiece, the back speaker and the headphone jack (with both the supplied headphones and some good quality Sennheisers). Again, I found that all sources, other than the normal voice calls, were fine. What surprised me though, was that the normal voice calls taken through the headphones crackled too (not just through the earpiece and back speaker).
Finally, I tried to determine the effect of volume on the crackling. To my surprise, I found that with my Sennheisers, the crackling did not appear to get worse with increasing volume. I chose the Sennheisers here because they could handle volumes way in excess of what the phone could produce.
These tests lead me to conclude that the audio path including the amplifier and speakers in the phone, may not be to blame. I also believe the problem is voice call specific. My understanding of what happens to a normal voice signal is somewhat limited, but here's what I think. I reckon the digital signal processing in the decoder for the phone signal may be to blame, as it has to pass through this BEFORE moving through the rest of the audio path (the volume independence was the clincher). This does provide some hope of a fix though, since the decoder is probably in software so can be modified. I'm thinking radio ROM here though, so not something we can hope to mod ourselves.
Anyway, sorry for the long post, if you're still with me, what do you think? Am I talking a load of bull. Can any of you replicate what I've found?
Interesting post, I have the same issue with my HD 2, definitely gone backwards from my previous phone which was an N95, I'm always adjusting the volume to reduce the distorted crackle when talking to people, the speaker phone is borderline crap as well, at least with the N95 you can actually hear a little bass.
when you say crackling do you mean like the person talkin on the other line says your voice gets messed up ? because this has been a problem with my hd2 since i baught it...about 1 month ago and im running 1.66 latest official WWE rom....
I had this problem with my first HD2 and also with two replacements phones from my provider T-Mobile in the UK. These phones were running ROM 1.43.
I have found the problem is completely fixed (on the same handset), by updating to the new 1.66 ROM.
I didnt really understand how to flash my phone with a new ROM despite reading a few posts. However, after following the thread (The Complete HSPL Video Guide - 621930 - in the HD2 ROM Development forum), I realised it was very easy, and had successfully flashed to the new ROM within an hour.
I have had and still have this problem. I havecontacted HTC, flashed different ROMs, and have had a replacement but the problem still persists. I am learning to live with it as the good out weigh the bad.
Thanks for all who have replied so far. I like the phone too and don't intend to change to any other, but may consider sending it back for repair. I also have a rattle (not the volume switch though, this is coming from near the rear speaker, this definitely doesn't seem right). I run the 1.66 WWE official ROM and it hasn't fixed the problem for me when I moved from 1.48 which it shipped with.

Audio routing with headphones

Ok this is an issue that's plagued this phone since 2.2 came out(at least that's when I noticed it) and I'm asking if anyone knows of a workaround, fix, or otherwise to resolve this. My issue is that when I have headphones plugged in, listening to music, playing a game or whatever, I want(and expect) notification sounds(ringers, new text, new e-mail, etc.) sound to play through, and only through, the headphones. Instead what I get is that it plays through the external speaker(huh?) AND the headphones. I would expect that with anything plugged into the 3.5mm jack that the external speaker is entirely muted and remains that way until whatever's plugged into it is removed.
I work in a fairly quiet environment and sometimes forget to turn my ringer off when I get to the office. I am almost always listening to a podcast with my headphones though and it's disturbing to those around me and startles me, lol, when my phone rings, blasting it out to those around me. I have experienced this issue on the official 2.2 froyo build(and it's patches). I installed SFR(all versions) hoping it might do the trick but so far no. Is this something that might be fixed in a different kernel? I know I have options to run a different one and am not averse to trying it out if this is fixable. SFR has Voodoo control pre-installed which I checked to see if it had any settings for this type of thing and found none.
Help?
This is an issue with Android itself (all versions) and it is the same on every phone. I think Cyanogenmod is the only "solution."'

No audio during calls (no speaker, no microphone)

I suffer this behaviour on my i9505 since long time.
No audio during call (I don't hear the other, the other doesn't hear me) but only with the phone itself.
If I use a bluetooth earpiece, everything works.
I've tried deep clean, reset, custom rom, stock rom... no way.
Please help me, I think there's a way to solve it but I'm not able to find it.

No audio or voice with calls? Pls Help!

My sister has TMO S4 stock and for some reason she's loosing the ability to hear any call and no one can hear her either.
I went as far as to check the phone myself and it's not the hardware at this point.
I was able to record audio and play back no problem but all calls there was no audio, not even through the headphone jack.
However, I was able to playback audio such as music no problem, even recorded audio and playback through headphones without issues but not calls. Bluetooth worked but she doesn't like it, ugh.
I just had her do a factory reset thinking it might be something she downloaded that might be the problem. The audio seemed to work but now after about 2hrs it stopped again and this is before she even re-installed any apps.
Has anyone come across this issue? If so how did you fix it?
Thanks!
What apps did you install?
Press Thanks if I helped

In call speakerphone issue on Android 8.1

Hi,
I never had any issues with my 6P, but out of nowhere, observing since few days that my speakerphone whether be in regular phone call or whatsapp call is not working. However, audio plays fine otherwise in apps like youtube etc. I tried doing factory reset, and reflashing 8.1 stock, still didn't help.
I tried going to 8.0 Dec firmware but ended up in bootloop issue(which I never saw otherwise), so re-installed 8.1 Jan package.
This is driving me nuts not being able to use the device for whatsapp kinda calls.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
anyone please?
Do you mean people can't hear you or you can't hear them on speaker phone? If other apps are working, it's not speaker but mic problem.
I can't hear on speakerphone, others hear well.

I would do a complete wipe including internal (back up everything.) Then flash latest 8.1 with bootloader, vendor and radio through fastboot. If still doesn't work must be issue with hardware .
I have the same phone and the same problem. I doubt it's a hardware problem. I don't have a solution either as I've tried many things.
Same issue with mine, they haven't missed off the lines of code again, on speaker phone audio is only coming from 1 speaker.
I still have this issue, has anyone managed to resolve this.
Same issue here. I thought it was Bluetooth related until I tested it today with Bluetooth off. When making or receiving calls sometimes audio will not work at all thigh speaker phone or regular call audio out.
A temporary fix for me is turning speakerphone on and off a couple times then audio is usually recovered.
I noticed this typically happens when audio interruptions occur for instance your listing to Spotify via speaker or Bluetooth and then make a call causing an audio Interruption to switch to call audio from media audio.
Definitely not a hardware issue and very annoying hoping to have a phone for more than 2 years without so many issues.
