LG Stylo 2 Plus Bootloop - LG Stylo 2 Plus Questions & Answers

Model: LGMS5500, Lg Stylo 2 Plus (MetroPCS), Android Marshmallow 6.0.1
Here's my issue.
I recently rooted/installed TWRP for this phone, all was working well until one day the system started running extremely slow.
Pulling down the notification bar took about five seconds; it took about the same amount of time to turn the screen on/off.
I searched everywhere for fixes and tried every one to no avail, so I figured I'd do a factory reset.
After trying the factory reset from the settings app; all the phone did was reboot.
So I went into TWRP and reset/cleared data from there.
Now when the phone starts, it brings me to a screen saying "Encryption unsuccessful" and only gives me the option to reset my phone.
When I press this button, it just reboots to the same screen>
I can't get into TWRP because before all of this happened, I disabled USB debugging.
So I can't use my PC to get into recovery.
There's also no way to boot to recovery with just the hardware buttons; the only way to get to TWRP with this phone is either from apps on the phone itself or using ADB.
Am I S.O.L here? Am I going to need to buy a new phone? I'd rather not have to drop another $175 because of something this dumb.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Bump, please halp

Try reinstalling lg drivers .i had to do that. Use the lg tools and don't have phone plugged when you install them. Then try again to clear data prompts. How it helps

[Q] Bell D803 constant re-boot

A bit of an SOS situation if anyone knows the right steps please
Well, I restored a Titanium Backup and mistakenly toggled the "restore system apk". It ran fine, all restored and then when I rebooted got stuck.
By "stuck", it re-boots constantly. It shows the LG animation, then all I can see is two messages before it starts booting again:
1) "Unfortunately, Google Play Services Has Stopped"
2) "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped
... and then it does the entire boot sequence, animation, again, and again.
Here is what I can do:
* It is in USB debug mode.
* I have drivers on laptop
* I am able to connect with adb and also shell into phone.
* With adb, I have output to the file an "adb bugreport" as well as an "adb logcat".
* I have several backups:
a) The modemsst1.img and modemsst2.img created by Titanium Backup
b) Titanium backups (full apps and data)
c) an "adb backup - all" backup
* I managed to get it into firmware update mode by pressing the volume up button and the power button and then when it flashed red a few times, just the up button. So, I can get it into Firmware update mode.
Of course, I have never really used adb before, except to dabble a bit. So, I am encouraged that I can somehow get into with shell.
I am not unplugging it until I know what to do!
Since then I have been able to turn the phone off and also put it into charging on USB.
This is what worked:
* Hold down power and volume down button until booting stops and phone turns off completely.
When it does shut down, I kept buttons down until it flashes logo again and then shuts down again. Then I let go. Phone is off and when I plugged in the charger it shows charging animation.
Now, after inspecting the bugreport, I noticed a lot of these messages for all the system apps like this one:
"I/PackageManager(21318): Expecting better updatd system app for com.lge.sizech"
I think the cause of all this shralp is this, I did a LG Mobile Support Tool "Upgrade Recovery" and then in Titanium Backup I restored an older backup (incl system apks). At least that makes sense seeing all the "Expecting better apdat system app" messages in the bugreport.
Still not sure what to do next
I tried the very good instructions here:
[Guide] Unroot/Unbrick - flash official factory firmware with LG Launche
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370
The update succeeded. However, when I rebooted the phone it is in the same boot-loop with message that it was before.
I used the BELL D803B10D_00.kdz file. Now I will try with the earlier version BELL D803BA_00.kdz file.
We will see what happens ...
do you have nandroid backup from previous rom?
I have three backups:
1) Titanium Backup (full)
* This was my first backup performed right after rooting device and installing Titanium Backup.
2) Titanium Backup (full)
* Did this 2 days ago. Device was working OK and did as precaution.
3) ADB BACKUP. I did this one before my Titanium restore.
I restored the first titanium backup and that (ooooppps!) was after I did an LG Firmware update.
ALSO:
I am on Windows 7 64 and although adb works fine, fastboot does not. I understand that might be a problem with windows 7 64.
So, unless anyone objects, I am going to redo on my windows 32 machine and also "fastbook oem unlock".
Since firmware is OK, if I do the fastboot oem unlock, that will wipe everything. But I can still boot and re-setip the phone, right?
Just checking before I fudge everything up here ..
ALSO ALSO:
I had antivirus/theft security installed and I disabled it partway through last restore.
Maybe that has somethng to do with this all .
But I am still cool because I can ADB and also firmware install seems ok.
ADB works and that is the one good sign.

I don't (didn't) have TWRP installed. How can I sideload without it?
Also, should I adb oem unlock to get it wiped at this point?
I'm having a similar problem on a Bell D803. Just happened very randomly today. I turned my phone off for an exam, then turned it back on after.. initially had no signal and a black background. Settings for factory reset wouldn't work. My phone is rooted and has TWRP. I went into recovery and formatted.
Bootloop.
Bootloop.
Bootloop x 20.
I however, don't get the same two messages. I just keep bootlooping.
Got home, tried to go through download mode to unbrick it, but for some reason my computer isn't picking it up. I have all the drivers, and before this incident, it was recognized.
Any solutions?
I'm thinking of buying an OTG USB and then just flashing a stock zip from recovery. Would that be a possible viable solution?

Well, I am able to connect with adb fine on my laptop (Win 7 64) but not on my desktop (Win 7 32)
But on my Win 7 64 I cannot get into fastboot.
I am wondering if the driver install on my desktop went foo-bar and needs reinstall. Also, I noticed that the website drivers are more recent USB drivers than some of the ones linked on this site.
I used adb uninstall package for many user packages and it was success. But I still see the packages listed in the bugreport?
For example: I already uninstalled "com.benhirashima.skiplock" and also "com.lookout".
Why? What to do to really zap them for good?
Sorry, I posted the wrong link earlier.
This was the guide I used which succeeded but made no difference to the boot-loop.

I have followed this to a t.
Succesfully flashed the stock firmware that came with the phone when sold.
Did hard reset using the the power button and volume down
= phone rebooting every 10 seconds, no wifi, imei = null
adb devices = offline.
Really depressed right now. If anybody can help me I would appreciate it.

Press the power button down and hold it.
It should turn off, then look like it is turning on, (flash logo very briefly) and then turn off.
Let go of power button and it should stay off.
Do that. Now, does it work to turn off completely?
Let's see if you can do that first.
Then .. do hard reset, exactly like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ogBvzbPikc
Does the hard reset screen show and give you hard reset options?

Yup. I totally understand what you are saying and have done it many times. I had to use that method to get into download mode and also had to use it to do hard reset.
I just reflashed the phone all over again a second time succesfully.
Reboots every 5 seconds. Keyboard came up for a few seconds for the first time in 48 hours during the initial setup phase. 5 seconds later as I was trying to input a wifi code it would not appear. then it rebooted as usual.
I really appreciate any input right now. :cyclops::crying:

1) Yes absolutely. It is sitting next to me right now doing nothing at all because I turn it off when I am not trying to fix it, otherwise it keeps rebooting relentlessly.
2) a) Yes, same as the video. b) Yes it says the same exact thing as the video. I press power key twice and it begins. The stock recovery android appears with a loading bar on the bottom for ~1 minute then it goes to the boot "lg animation".
3) Yes it was. Before it was bricked I essentially always had it in debug mode because I successfully rooted it and simply left it on debugging mode after having to activate it to root.
4) D801V11B_00.kdz The EXACT same as the original. This is a Videotron (canadian) phone. I can clearly remember without a doubt going into about phone and this is what it was running before all of this happened.
5) I am having a bit of memory strain here, but I do believe it also said adb devices before any of the issues came. It is a good point I will try "adb device" from another trusted computer.
Other notes: I can browse the android os for a few seconds. Sometimes sound does not work, wifi is non functional (even though the keyboard never appears, I managed to have a security free wifi in my proximity and it would not connect (was saying: temporarily avoiding bad signal)) and also I do have modemstat1.img and modemstat2.img backups for EFS.
adb devices consistently shows "offline" but it is definitely recognizing the phone. I have also tried using usb debugging activated and still "offline". Drivers are up to date and all.
The upper drawer in the usual g2 user interface is strange now. it doesnt have anything except for the date (1970 something...) and a "gear" icon for system settings. I am talking the drawer you drag down from the top of the screen.
This phone was working with absolutely no problems 2 days ago.
Thank you so much for looking into this. I have certainly exhausted my repairing capacities. I am entirely dependent upon the knowledgeable individuals in here from here on out.

Hmmmm..... why your adb devices is not working? But the re-pair works and you can then do hard reset.
But that is good information you shared.
Maybe someone else can chime in.
From my experience:
1) adb usb access seems spotty. My win 7 64 connected fine and it even kept the shell through the reboot cycle. But on my win 7 32 machine it was only detecting device and then not able to shell.
2) I was also able to use from the LG website LG MOBILE SUPPORT TOOLS.
Download the LG MOBILE SUPPORT TOOL
I downloaded the most recent one from the LG website and make sure to select your options >> country and then the correct phone model at the upper right hand corner of the tool.
Then install USB driver for correct phone model.
Then see if USB works, "adb device" should return the device code.
"adb shell" should show the shell prompt.
3) There is always fastboot. But I an noob and know 0% about how to properly connect and use it.
Some others please chime in and help this droid bro!

[Q] LG G2 bricked, with disabled usb debugging ( PLEASE HELP!)

I rooted my lg g2 D802, put cwm recovery and flashed cyanogenmod 11. It worked perfectly for 80 hours, when my battery died. I tried to recharge it but my phone won't boot anymore, I only see lg logo. I can't get into recovery, but i can get into download mode. I tried flashing stock ROM through PC but it doesn't work. PC recognizes phone in ports but when I start Flashtool it just says "Waiting for Connection". After reading tons of threads about bricked phones, it seems that phone has to have USB debugging enabled. When i flashed cyanogenmod USB debugging was disabled. And now my phone is bricked with USB debugging disabled.
Please help me to restore my phone, I'm desperate now. I've been trying various methods for 3 days and nothing seems to work. What should I do?

If you have lg logo use lg support tool. I had the same problem and it restores my phone to factory firmware. Dont get scared if you see a lot of ?????????? On lg suppor tool. Just look for the options.....check where the options are before connecting phone because when plugged letters change to ??????. Works 100% for me.

To be completely honest, I'm not sure how exactly did I manage to unbrick it. I tried to dig something with adb and fastboot. I don't know what exactly did I do but I didn't get any visible result. In my desperation I tried to enter recovery (power + down) once again (after at least 10 attempts during these 3 days) and it somehow worked. Then I flashed ROM that was already in my memory. It seems that my problem was consequence of OTA update.
I'm new with android so I'm still noob. I'm sorry that I can't help more.
i have a same problem if u solve it
Did you try doing an upgrade recovery using LG Mobile Support Tool on Windows 7 machine?

[Q] Hard Brick D800 - Please Help! At a loss

Any help is appreciated! First some background:
Flashed device to stock using KK 4.4 version d80020c following steps found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476. Successfully rooted using directions (and ioroot25) found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKuedInhdjU&noredirect=1.
Here's where I got into trouble...Downloaded TWRP 2.7 recovery img and flashed via Flashify. Since this step, my D800 has the exact same symptoms found on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142.
- No download mode (tried many times)
- No recovery (tried many times also)
- Secure booting error
- LG detected as qhsusb_bulk in device manager
- Device is recognized as 15 different drives, one of which contains a folder named image with 79 different files being .B0X files and Microsoft Access Add-in Data files
- Upon restarting, LG logo with secure booting error, then the screen goes black while your phone is still on
I've followed the steps in the thread that matches my G2's symptoms, run ubuntu 13.1 in VM, apply usb filters for my device which is then recognized as either LG Electonics Inc. QHUSB_BULK or Unknown Device 05C6:9006 when running in VM.
Upon running command ls /dev/sd* in VM Ubuntu Terminal, all that is returned is /dev/sda /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2 /dev/sda5 which are the partitions for Ubuntu, no LG.
I've tried to download and update the Qualcomm drivers, device manager tells me that the drivers were recognized, but cannot be installed and do not pass the hash check (Note: PC is running Windows 8.1).
I've spent over 12 hours on this trying to fix this problem, researched and searched everywhere. If I could get ubuntu to recognize the device, I would be able to continue on with the instructions on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142.
Links for windows 8 qualcomm drivers, suggestions on how to get the device recognized in ubuntu vm, experiences from others in similar situation, or any with experience working with LG to get a repair done if I'm SOL (as in eMMC is fried) would be so helpful right now.
Thank you all!
After flashing recovery did you flash a patched kernel to boot stock kk?
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk
I had the same, also with a lot of drives etc.
Screen is black but low backlighted?
Then try with pluged USB Cabel in Phone, hold Power button until screen is realy off, then hold the Power Up Button and plug Cabel into PC.
So I got download mode after I tryed many times
I had problems a few weeks ago getting mine to go into Download mode... turned out that the cable I was using was great for charging, but sucked for everything else. Once I switched to a different cable things worked fine and I was able to load D80010c on the device.
I was running D80020c this morning (with the D80010c boot.img to have a custom recovery) and decided to do an update. Since you can't load D80020k if you have the older bootloader I went all the way back to D80010c, updated to D80010o, D80010q, D80020c and finally D80020k. I was able to root that using IOroot and have restored everything back onto my phone.
-Daryel
Thanks so much for the responses! I've tried endlessly to get the device into download mode, and tried a new cable to no avail. Any other suggestions?
The URL you've linked to will help you solve your problem.
So once you power off your device, hold volume down and power till the lg logo shows, then release shortly and hold them again together till the white window with "factory reset appears", you should notice a text behind the white screen it's fine. So right now when you think it's gonna enter recovery mode the screen is gray(not black), now you connect your device to your ubuntu or whichever linux. You will notice the screen repeatelly blinking when linux is trying to automount the partitions. Figure out which device it is according to the messages it throws. (sdc, sdb, sdX)
This way you should proceed according to the instructions on the thread you linked.
d800 partitions are here

Thanks for your advice.
I got the white screen asking whether or not I want to perform a factory reset. If I choose No, the phone sends me right to the LG Logo with the error screen. If I choose Yes, it does the same thing. If I plug my phone into my computer while on the white screen asking if I want to perform a factory reset, the device isn't recognized and the PC doesn't see it as plugged in or mounted. I'm not sure what you mean by the timing of when I should try to plug in my device. Thanks again for all your help.

As soon as in the background of the white menu (factory reset) the secure boot appear plug it in. I'm not sure how much usb filter helps you(maybe it does) but try installing ubuntu over WUBI installer so your win remains. Or at least try ubuntu from usb stick. So you can know for sure if it's working.

you are not alone dude. i had the same issue since sunday and i have spent almost 46 hours already trying to restore my LG G2 F320S korean model.
i followed that instruction in linux, everything went well but then I ended up with a phone not going past the LG logo. the screen no longer dims like how it used to with the secure boot fail error. again, it stucked at the LG logo and thats it.
pressing the 3 buttons though for 5 seconds shows a white screen with 3 options and a bar code under.
but all of these options will just take me back to the LG logo.
I went to a phone technician today, and they said the doing a JTAG fix is the only way to resolve the problem because after trying to fix it with linux, it is no longer identified by my PC.
what are your solutions so far?
anyways before this issue came up, i tried to flash TWRP using flashify, it failed. then went back up. tried to update the OS via OTA then thats it.
i home someone could help us out.

pressing the 3 buttons though for 5 seconds shows a white screen with 3 options and a bar code under.
but all of these options will just take me back to the LG logo.

Removing USB connection while flashing

Hi all,
I have a serious problem with my G2 which I could not solve: I used the new LG Flash Tool 2014 with stock KDZ file, everything was going just fine till I received an error message that LG server is not available, I disconnected the USB cable by mistake from my G2 and afterward I saw that it was in the middle of flashing process (12% was completed). I turned it off and tried to reach download mode again and nothing!, I'm receiving the "LG" logo and nothing- the screen goes black (it is still on).
I tried also to connect my phone to the computer- I received a list of 13 "new" local disks "H" to "T", only "H" disk is available and it's showing "image" folder with list of files.
I cannot reach "download mode", nothing is working!
I hope this is not the end for my G2..
please help me
Thank you so much!
If you could receive all those hard disks then you could maybe fix it with linux/ubuntu if you have it. Search for guides to cOpy the neccesary stuff bacK like the bootloader. I can't really help you atm as i am too sleepy.

Thank you for your reply. I found this on the sticky threads: "[FIX] NO Recovery mode, No download mode, after OTA on rooted LG G2".
I installed ubuntu and followed the instructions. when I type the following: "gdisk -l /dev/sde" I receive an error message:
"GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.5.1
NOTE: Write test failed with error number 13. It will be impossible to save
changes to this disk's partition table!
Problem opening /dev/sde for reading! Error is 13
You must run this program as root or use sudo!"
My device is not rooted, is this the problem?
Please help me!!
Thanks
@NNCa It says you need to run the program as root on ubuntu.
Just use sudo in front of the commands.
You need to type once your password to use sudo, you can't see the password if you enter it for safety I guess but just click enter after you typed ykur password.

Do I miss something?

Hi,
I powered off my phone by pressing volume down + power for a while ("LG" logo blinked once and phone was fully powered off).
I pushed volume down + power till I saw the LG logo, released it, and pushed again- and finally I reached the Factory Hard Reset screen. I have pushed 3 times the power, and I have got "Factory reset processing..." and nothing is appeared, even when I'm pushing several times on power again.
I guess this is the end of my G2 :crying:
Thank you all for your support, this is an excellent forum!:good::good:

Nope it isn't the end try to install the recovery again or try to push the custom twrp recovery again to the right partition! Dont give up that fast when i hear your things then its still fixable! you already got the factory reset processing so try to Push the Recovery again and search for an guide about recovery maybe Then you would probably get your device fixed.
Just read my things about simplicity so think easy and you can fix it. AND STAY POSITIVE You will repair your phone today :good:

Maybe I did a mistake when trying to push those image files.. I guess there is nothing I can do to fix my phone..
Do you have any other suggestions?
Can someone please help me. How can I get to the LG device- Is there another software I can use to flash files into this device?
Thanks

Hi, sorry to say but you have unfortunately completely hardbricked your device. It happened to me too however I was able to get it replaced under warranty at no extra cost.
What happened was that when your phone was still detected by linux, you had a chance to recover by flashing the correct partitions to gain access to download mode and from there, flash a KDZ to go back to complete stock. However, the files you used were probably incompatible with your variant which has now corrupted your bootloader sequence. I suggest you read this reply by fizzy177 as well as the rest of the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51522304&postcount=118
So right now, you cannot do anything as you have already found out, no computer will recognise that your phone is plugged in. Your phone fails to boot when you try enter the download mode and it just freezes on the splash screen which looks like this: http://www.lg-phones.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/image2.png
What's meant to happen is your phone should load past that initial splash screen into this http://www.androiddunya.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/LG-G2-DownloadMode.jpg which accepts KDZ flashing and warns the device has been rooted.
So it's a blessing that your phone cannot boot as LG cannot find out you have voided warranty and you will be able to get a replacement free of charge.
Issue was solved- device was fixed under warranty
Hi,
I just want to update you all that my device was fixed under warranty! (motherboard replacement)
Thank you all for help and great support, this is a great forum with great community :good::good:
Hello
From past 2 weeks i am wondering on internet for a solution . Hours and hours of surfing and articles but still
Hope some one solve this issue.
Okay. First i m using LG G2 F320 K update to lollipop . Non rooted. It was working fine . I can transfer files in MTP .
But about a month ago i get an update for my phone . And after some days i need to transfer some files to my phone , i wonder when i connected my phone to computer nothing happened . No notification on mobile for changing PTP MTP option . Also nothing happened in Computer device manager..
From that day i am unable to connect my phone with windows 10. It always charging mobile.
I uninstalled all drivers in device manager and installed from LG website. I updates windows N and NK MTP update from windows for windows 10.
I changed different data cables and different computers and different ports . All stuff i can do. Still no luck.
When ever i plug USB data cable it always put my Mobile on Charging . No notification on Mobile. Also i go in setting > storage> and there is no option in upper right corner to select USB PC connection .
I am in developer mode and debugging mode is on also. Also USB tethering option is Disabled .
Kindly some one help me regarding this.
LG G2 F320K updated to stock Koren lollipop 5.0.1 . Non root.( i updated lollipop in April 2015)
Issue i am facing is no notification for Charging/ MTP/PTP Usb Debugging on mobile notice bar when i attach my phone using USB cord with computer. Also in computer device manager nothing happen. Even i checked on windows 10 , 8.1, 8, 7 .
I remember it was working like charm 4 weeks before I can change MTP PTP or Charge only mode by selecting notification when i attach it to my laptop. I can transfer files can use LG PC suit .
Then i received an software update like 40 mb and i updated my mobile. That i remembered.
After that 2 weeks before i need to transfer some books from laptop to my mobile. When i plugged my device there no notification to select MTP mode . Also there is nothing happened in my windows 10. I looked in task manager. No yellow icon in computer task manager for driver thing.
Laptop is just silent and mobile is just on charging .
Then i go to setting in LG and looked for USB PC connection settings. I wonder there is nothing . Settings > storage > 3 dot in upper right corner.. it suppose to be there . But here is no 3 dot in storage. Then i looked into share and networks in android setting and i found that USB tethering. But its faded mean it is disabled and i am unable to use this feature also.
I tried on different computers different cables , original, but nothing. Always when i plug usb mobile went on charging and in all computers nothing happen in device manager.
USB debugging is on.. I factory reset device 2 times. but useless. Also i uninstall all drivers from my laptop and then reinstall drivers from LG website also i tried google drivers , ABD, different ports. Nothing nothing happen.
Also now if i try put mobile on download mode by turning device off and then push + vol button and then put cord in mobile . No download mode also it went on charging. Well charging from laptop or from charger is okay.
Hope i explain all.

[Q] Help needed. Bricked LG G2, when google didn't help!

Good day fellow XDA users!
I've been playing with my old LG G2, and as you could have guessed - bricked it (while trying to instal Android L ROM)
The problem: The phone is not booting further the LG logo.
I've tried:
1. Doing a hard-reset, didn't work. After getting to the hard-reset screen - I double-confirm the reset and then nothing happens (waited for about an hour and a half).
2. Entering download-mode, didn't work. It shows the "download mode" logo but nothing happens.
3. Connecting to PC, fast-boot, adb of LG Tool can't "see" the device.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Anyone?
Your phone boots in fastboot?..or it's only stuck on LG logo?..if you can boot in fastboot then there are some threads around here about how to recover...but if you are stuck at LG logo i don't know.. I hope somebody more experienced will help you.
Nope, I didn't manage to get it to load fastboot.

Hello, sorry it took some time to answer, but here (original post can be found here http://androidforums.com/threads/he...when-google-didnt-help.900687/#post-6874443):
FIXED!
I followed the steps and it worked!!!
1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/lg-g2-unbrickable-fix-real-hard-brick-t2904404 this liknk helped connecting it to PC.
2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142 this link helped me flash the partitions, well actually not, because I didn't have a linux machine next to me. So I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/unbrick-lg-g2-qhsusbbulkqualcomm-9006-t2939627, which is really a walk in a park, just download and run the file.
Anyhow, now my phone works!
Special thanks to
